May kapatid siyang babae na tinatawag na Maria. Naupo ito sa may paanan ng Panginoon at nakikinig sa kanyang salita. Abalang-abala naman si Marta sa mga pagsisilbi kaya lumapit siya at sinabi: “Panginoon, hindi mo ba napapansing pinabayaan ako ng aking kapatid na babae na magsilbing mag-isa? Pakisabi mo naman sa kanya na tulungan ako.” Sumagot sa kanya ang Panginoon: “Marta, Marta, abala ka't balisa sa maraming bagay; isa lang naman ang kailangan. Pinili nga ni Maria ang mainam na bahagi na hindi kukunin sa kanya.” Pagninilay: Focus lang tayo sa kung ano ang mahalaga. Focus tayo kay Kristo. May pagka-aligaga ako bilang tao. Mabilis tumaas yung tension sa utak, sa mga maliliit na bagay lalo na siguro sa malalaking bagay. Alam mo yung feeling na hindi ka mapakali kung may mga bagay bagay na hindi nagsasang-ayon kung ano dapat ang mangyayari. Na tetense. Nag-ooverthink. Parang sa imahe ni Martha sa Mabuting balita natin ngayong Linggo. Hindi naman, mali yung imahe na ipinakita sa Ebanghelyo natin ngayong araw. Gusto niya lang tapos ang Gawain at tulungan siya ng kanyang kapatid na si Maria. Hindi mali ang pag-gawa ng mga responsibilidad na naka-atas sa atin. Lalong hindi mali ang paghingi ng tulong. Siguro may mga nakakaligta-an lang si Martha sa priority niya tulad sa buhay natin. May mga prioridad tayo na binabale wala dahil nagiging “busy” abala tayo sa ibang bagay. Tulad na lang ng pagbibigay atensyon sa mga pagdalaw ng Diyos sa atin, sa ibat ibang karanasan natin sa buhay. Yung mapapa-aha tayo, “This is the Lord.” Kailangan nating makinig, maupo, at tumahimik tulad ni Maria. Maging komportable sa mga biyaya at malalaking kaganapan natin sa buhay na kasama si Hesus. Alam ninyo bang matapang din dito si Maria. Hindi lang yung gusto niya makinig kay Hesus, datapwat malakas ang loob na buwagin ang “gender barriers” sa panahon na iyon na puro lalaki lang ang may karapatan na makinig at maging guro. Si Maria sa Mabuting Balita ay simbolo ng pagkakapantay pantay natin sa mata ng Diyos. Lahat tayo ay tinatawag na maging alagad. Kaya nga sabi ni Hesus, pinili niya ang mas mabuting bahagi.

Lalapit sa akin ang anumang ibinibigay sa akin ng Ama, at hinding-hindi ko ipagtatabuyan sa labas ang lumalapit sa akin. Sapagkat pumanaog ako mula sa Langit hindi upang gawin ang kalooban ko kundi ang kalooban ng nagsugo sa akin. Madalas kasi ang gusto nating tugon ng Diyos sa ating panalangin ay naka “package” ito ayon sa ating kagustuhan.
