On Lag BaOmer, Mirlana Morris opens up about the life and legacy of her son Donny, who tragically passed away in the Meron disaster of 2021. In a deeply moving conversation, Mirlana shares intimate memories of Donny's character — a vibrant, kind, and meticulous young man who touched countless lives with his quiet acts of kindness and sincerity. From his early years in Teaneck, NJ, to his transformative time at Yeshivat Sha'alvim in Israel, Donny stood out for his warmth, discipline, and inclusivity. Mirlana recounts the events of that painful night, the confusion and heartbreak that followed, and the powerful stories that emerged afterward — from Donny comforting kids at camp to always making sure to call his grandmother before Shabbat. Despite the unimaginable loss, she speaks about Donny's enduring impact and how he continues to inspire others through small, thoughtful actions. This emotional tribute is a testament to how one young life can make an everlasting difference. Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
Rav Haim Palachi (Turkey, 1788-1869), in his work Mo'ed Le'chol Hai, writes that the name of the month Iyar is an acronym for the names "Abraham," "Yishak," "Yaakob" and "Rahel," and thus alludes to our righteous patriarchs. This is why it is customary to learn Pirkeh Abot during this month, as it is closely associated with the Abot (patriarchs). Rav Haim Palachi adds that it is worthwhile for those who can to visit or to donate to the burial sites of our patriarchs – Me'arat Ha'machpela and Keber Rahel – during the month of Iyar. He further writes that on Pesah Sheni, which is observed on the 14th of Iyar, we omit Tahanunim from the prayer service, and one should conduct some sort of festivity. Those who are blessed with wealth should host a meal on Pesah Sheni for Torah scholars, and some have the practice to eat Masa. On Lag Ba'omer, which is observed on the 18th of Iyar and commemorates the day of the passing of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohai, it is customary to make a pilgrimage to Rabbi Shimon's gravesite at Meron in Northern Israel. Rav Haim Palachi warns that one must ensure not to engage in frivolity at this occasion, as the opportunity to earn great merit will then be transformed into an occasion of sin. He cites the Midrash's comment that one can earn great blessings in the merit of Rabbi Shimon by participating in this event, but only if it is done the proper way. Rav Haim Palachi adds that it is proper to read on Lag Ba'omer the book Shibheh Rashbi, which tells of the greatness of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohai, and various famous passages about him from the Zohar. The 28th of Iyar marks the anniversary of the death of the prophet Shemuel, and the Shulhan Aruch (Orah Haim 580) records the custom observed by some people to fast on this day. There is also a custom to pray by Shemuel's gravesite on this day.

Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai is a singular phenomenon throughout the generations. There is no other gravesite or yahrzeit of an individual that draws the masses as Rashbi, Meron, and Lag BaOmer do. Compare this to Rashbi's teachers and colleagues: few visit the grave of the great sage of the generation during the time of the Beis Hamikash's destruction, Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai. Not everyone visits the grave of the great Tanna Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Shimon's own teacher. Yet the holy site in Meron is the second most visited religious destination in Israel—after the Kosel. What is the uniqueness of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai?
In this powerful and deeply insightful conversation, Rahel Bayar sits down with Nachi Gordon to discuss her journey from being a sex crimes and child abuse prosecutor in the Bronx to founding The Bayar Group, an organization dedicated to abuse and harassment prevention across North America. Rahel shares how her early aspirations in psychology shifted to law, leading her to work on some of the most difficult cases imaginable—domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault. With years of courtroom experience and firsthand exposure to trauma, she eventually asked herself: Can this be prevented? Now a leading educator and consultant, Rahel trains schools, camps, and youth organizations on how to build safe environments without instilling fear. She breaks down practical prevention tools—like teaching children about body safety, the difference between secrets and surprises, and how to foster open communication—especially within the frum (religious Jewish) community. Whether you're a parent, educator, or community leader, this episode will leave you thinking differently about what it means to protect children and empower communities. “No healthy grown-up needs a child to keep a secret.” — Rahel Bayar This episode was made possible thanks to our sponsors: ►Blooms Kosher Bring you the best Kosher products worldwide. https://bloomskosher.com ____________________________________________________ ► PZ Deals - Download the app and never pay full price again! https://app.pz.deals/install/mpp _____________________________________________________ ►Toveedo Visit- https://toveedoshop.com Use Promo Code MM10 for $10 off! __________________________________________________ ► Aleph Beta Counting the Omer can feel like just counting. In today's episode, we are exploring the realities of military life in early modern and medieval England and how those realities are reflected (or not!) in Shakespeare's King Henry V. We will discuss historical misrepresentations of the English military during Shakespeare's lifetime and how recent scholarship has discovered a wealth of narratives that prove those previous understandings to be incorrect. We will also discuss the rules of war that existed historically during the reign of King Henry V and how accurately Shakespeare portrays and navigates those historical norms within the fictional world of the play. Nag-exist ba talaga si Jesus, o gawa-gawa lang Siya?
Welcome to our special Shovavim series on humility. We've been talking about how when things happen, it's up to the person how to receive it. We discussed how this applies in a general way, like the Galut of Jewish people that changed over the 400 years. They initially started off as sojourners in Eretz Yisrael and they switched to going to Mitzrayim in a calm way, then there was hard work and then there was torture because the lesson is to become humbled and it's up to the receiver to be humbled by the situation. The sefer Mishpat Sedek on Tehilim by Rav Moshe of Zolchin was written in 1875. In it he says something very interesting: When something goes wrong and the person is concerned or worried it's a sign that he has a pure soul. This is based on a Gemara in Masechet Shabbat 105B, where it says in the name of Rabbi Yochanan that when something happens in a group, whether it's a family or a group of friends, everyone should be concerned. As it says, אחד מבני חבורה שמת תדאג כל החבורה כולה (If) one of the group passes away (heaven forbid), the whole group should be concerned. The Rambam brings it down in the laws of Avelut , Chapter 13, Halacha 12, where he says, anyone that does not mourn like the Chachamim told us to do is a cruel person. Rather he should be worried and concerned and check his deeds and return to Teshuva . He says if one person from the group passes away… they should be aware He's telling us that when things happen, it's for a reason, to arouse us to look into our deeds. and continues. Rabbi Moshe of Zolchin continues in his sefer Mishpat Sedek " Do not be like those people that are not concerned at all when something bad happens, they say ' וקבל הכל בשמחה /Accept everything with happiness,' and they start dancing. זה שקר גמור / This is a total falsehood. We have to be serious when things go wrong. We have to take the message-the main reason why it went wrong was to bring a little humility . And therefore when things go wrong, humble yourself, be concerned about your sins. Do teshuva. This is a very important concept that people misunderstand. They hear a story about a great rabbi whose house burnt down, and he started dancing in front of the house. They hear that story and when something goes wrong for them, like a terrible car accident lo Alenu, and everybody walked away from it, they start to dance. Of course dance. Have Hakarat HaTov, make a Seuda Hodaah, do whatever you like . But take a minute. Something happened here and it was for a reason. Humble yourself, get the message, and then dance. We don't go right into the celebration without saying, Hold on, something happened for a reason . It's there to humble us. This is a very important point because if we don't walk away with a message, we haven't accomplished anything. I heard a story from Rabbi Yehuda Ades (may he have a refuah shelemah)- After his father Rav Yaakov Ades had a stroke, he went to visit him with his Rebbi, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach. Rav Yaakov was bedridden, and not functioning well, although his mind was still working. And Rav Shlomo Zalman told Rav Yehuda (perhaps in response to a question) " Who knows if one humbling feeling that he has, or one groan that he has will cleanse his entire life retroactively from any little bit of extra arrogance that he had." Now, that may sound like a heavy statement, but it gave me hizzuk , because when things go wrong, we start getting down, thinking, ' What's wrong with me? I'm no good.' But we're talking about Kaddosh Elyon Chacham Rav Yaakov Ades. And Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach said, " Yes, everybody needs to be humbled. " We have a long way, we're not there yet. And with this, Rav Ades explained one of the famous questions, which is, Why do we pray for suffering to go away if we believe everything is good for us? You may say because it's painful. But if you go to the dentist and he has to drill a cavity or you'll need a root canal, you don't pray for him to stop because it's painful. You know it's good for him to drill. So too, if anything that goes wrong is good for me, why not just stay with it and accept it? But he explained that the purpose of suffering is to become humble. And once a person gets the message and turns humbly to Hashem and surrenders, there's no need for the suffering anymore. The suffering accomplished what it needed to accomplish. What a fascinating explanation! That means when the person is in a very difficult situation and they just can't handle it, and they break down and pray to Hashem, " Hashem, please, I don't know what to do, " that humility accomplished, so they no longer need the suffering. So the question isn't, "Why should you ask for suffering to go away if it's good for you?" Because the good is that its going to make you humble. And praying from the depths of your heart and pleading for it to go away, is humility . And Rabbi Ades said that a lot of times we we don't realize why things are happening and we have to understand why they're happening. He gave him a mashal - Sometimes people go to a hospital for something minor and it develops into something more serious. He said, possibly the reason is the person was sent to the hospital to be humbled. Being in a hospital is humiliating. You have a roommate, the nurse has to help with bodily functions. It's not a picnic, to put it mildly. But if the person starts to complain about the accommodations, about the food etc, as if he's in a hotel, he doesn't understand. He wasn't sent to a hotel. He was there to get the message that, " I'm not in charge. I'm not in control. I need Hashem. Please Hashem, get me out of here!" This is concept that Galut is in the eyes of the beholde r or suffering is in the eyes of the holder. The Pele Yoetz says on the topic of Galut, that Galut doesn't have to be that you go to a foreign land. He says we see a proof from the Pesikta Rabbati which tells us Hashem make Succot come after Kippur because as the Rambam told us, going into exile forgives our sins. So Hashem said, "Go into the Succah, that's a Kaparah." The Rambam says in Moreh Nevuchim that the purpose of the Succah is to humble yourself. You're sitting in a hut. Remember your beginnings. You're humble. But even when you go to a Shul or Bet Midrash that's not comfortable, whether too hot, it's too cold, that's Galut . He says, when it's Erev Pesach and you can't be in your dining room and you can't be here and you can't be there and you're prisoner in your own house, that's Galut . When you go on a business trip, Galut Mechaperet . But it all depends on how you look at it. Rabbi Ades said that when he was still a young man with many children in the house, maybe giving Shiur in the yeshiva, one of his friends came to him in the month of Av during Ben HaZmanim the mid-semester break. The friend said that it was brought down that great Sadikim used to go into Galut . They'd exile themselves. The Chida did it, the Gaon of Vilna did it… They would go to a place where no one recognized them, sit in the back of the shul and learn. They'd wait for people to invite them to their homes to eat. They'd sleep on the shul benches without any kavod and they'd humble themselves. This friend suggested leaving Yerushalayim for Meron , sleeping by the cave of Rav Shimon Bar Yochai and going into Galut . But what were they leaving behind? A wife and six kids! So Rabbi Ades told his friend, " You don't want to go into Galut, you want to go on a picnic! You just want to get away from your wife and kids. Maybe it's more humbling to be home with your wife and kids for three weeks!" It's all in how you look at it and the lessons that you get.

The Chovot HaLevavot , in Sha'ar Cheshbon HaNefesh (Chapter 3), teaches that no one in this world can give us anything unless Hashem wills it. Even if a person was the only one in the world, he would not possess a single thing more than what Hashem decreed for him. And even if the world's population doubled, he would not have one possession less than what was meant for him. Rabbi Menashe Reizman gives a mashal : A father with 19 children had to make the simplest wedding for his youngest child, cutting out all possible extras. The child may have thought, "If only I were an only child, my father would have made me the grandest wedding." But this is entirely false. That child would have received the same wedding regardless of how many siblings he had. Hashem provides for each person individually, and no one else has any impact on what we receive. A hundred years ago, people worried that if the world's population continued growing at its current rate, food would become scarce—some even predicted that one apple would have to be divided among four people, based on the ratio of apples to people, at that time. At that time, there were 2 billion people in the world. Today, the population has quadrupled to over 8 billion, yet there is no shortage of apples—there are enough for every person to have more than four apples. Some now worry that, with the increasing population, the world will run out of oxygen. But we laugh at this notion because we understand that Hashem provides for every person individually, and no one is affected by the presence of others. A person can live in isolation, surrounded by abundance, yet be unable to benefit from it. Conversely, someone with little means, surrounded by many others, may still have everything he needs. It all depends on Hashem's will. Rabbi Yaakov Meir Schechter related a story from a time of famine in Yerushalayim when there wasn't enough bread for everyone. Bread had to be rationed based on family size. Ironically, the baker—who had access to all the bread he could ever want—contracted a rare illness that prevented him from eating any of it. No one could believe that the one person with unlimited access to bread was unable to enjoy it. Only Hashem determines who benefits from what. Rabbi Schechter also shared an account from Rabbi Shaul Sharabani about his experience living in the Old City of Yerushalayim when it was under Turkish rule. He and a friend received draft notices for the Turkish army. At the time, being drafted was considered a terrible fate, as both a person's spiritual and physical well-being were at great risk. Rabbi Shaul and his friend accepted upon themselves that if Hashem saved them from the draft, they would travel to the kever of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in Meron and spend the day thanking and praising Hashem for their salvation. In those days, traveling to Meron was extremely difficult, but they believed that their mesirut nefesh in fulfilling their promise would be a great zechut for them. B'chasdei Hashem , both of them were miraculously exempted from military service. Rabbi Shaul immediately fulfilled his pledge. He made the difficult journey to Meron and spent the entire day crying tears of gratitude and praise to Hashem. His friend, however, did not join him. Since their exemption had occurred through seemingly natural means—connections and assistance from others—he did not fully attribute it to Hashem. Unfortunately, just a few months later, this friend received another draft notice. This time, there was no way for him to get out of it. Our hishtadlut does not accomplish anything—only Hashem does. It is up to us to recognize this and internalize that Hashem provides for each person individually, and no one else has any effect on our lives.

For chapters 13 and primarily 14, Aliza Libman Baronofsky returns and explores the root ע-ר-ם _arum_ a curious word with multiple even contradictory meanings that has its roots in the garden of Eden and appears more in the book of Mishlei than anywhere else in Tanakh. It's an honour to have Aliza back with us and she dedicated this recording to Donny Morris z"l, her cousin's son, who lost his life a week before this recording at Meron. From the holy gravesite of Rebbe Eliezer ben Yaacov in a cave near Meron, here is a timely message about our enemies and how to defeat them.

Some people feel cheated when it comes to the abilities they were given in the realms of spirituality. They say, "If Hashem would have given me more money, I could be giving so much more tzedaka . If Hashem would have given me a bigger house, I could be excelling in the mitzvah of hachnasat orchim . If Hashem would have made me smarter, I would be becoming great in Torah...and the list goes on. These sound like lofty complaints, but they are nothing more than the ploy of the evil inclination. Korach felt that if he would have had a better position, he would have been able to accomplish more in his avodat Hashem, but that turned out to be his downfall. We have everything we need to perform our jobs properly. The Sefer Chassidim in siman 530 writes, a person should never say, if I would have had something.... – כי רחמנא ליבא בעי- because Hashem wants our hearts. How much money you have has nothing to do with you. How smart you are has nothing to do with you. But your heart is fully under your jurisdiction. A person's job in this world is to want to give tzedaka and attempt to do it in whatever way he can. To desire to learn Torah and attempt to do it the best way he can. The pasuk says ובחרת בחיים – we are to choose life. The main avodah here is to make the decision in our hearts to want to do Torah and mitzvot . The Chovot HaLevavot in Shaar HaBitachon, perek 4 discusses our role in the performance of mitzvot . And because the topic is so delicate, he begins with a small tefila to Hashem to guide him to saying the right words. He writes there, every mitzvah requires three steps – one, the desire to perform it; two, the commitment to carry it out; and three, the actual performance. The third part is beyond our control. Our role is in the first two parts – the desire and commitment. A person does not need any money to desire to give tzedaka. He doesn't need to be a genius to desire to learn Torah. If someone has, let's say, a desire to build a yeshiva, but he has no money to do it, he is rewarded for his desire alone. If he makes some phone calls and tries to raise money to build a yeshiva, then he is rewarded for his commitment and effort as well. Whether the yeshiva gets built is beyond his control. The Ohr Avigdor tells the story of Rav Yisrael Salanter, who was once seen talking to an older man for a long time explaining to him the importance of establishing a Kollel for higher learning. His students assumed that the old man was wealthy enough to warrant so much effort. When they found out he was poor, they asked the Rabbi why he seemingly wasted his precious time on that poor man. The Rabbi replied, "Doesn't he need to want a Kollel too?" Which means, to have a desire in one's heart to serve Hashem is a major accomplishment and it was worth the great Rabbi's time to give somebody that desire. If someone has a yearning for the Beit HaMikdash to be rebuilt, he's rebuilding the Mikdash in his heart and receiving untold rewards for that desire. If someone desire's Mashiach, he is being rewarded for the desire alone. Hashem wants our hearts and every Jew is equal in what he could accomplish with his heart. Hashem knows our intentions and when we have the right ones very often, He will also bring them to fruition and give us the additional reward of having our intentions accomplished in the form of a deed. Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Rabinowitz told that he has a custom of lighting Shabbat candles even when he's away from home in circumstances when he is exempt. Of course, in those circumstances he lights without a beracha , but he said his strong desire to light candles for Shabbat pushes him to make sure he always does. On one occasion, he was in Meron for Shabbat and wanted to light like he always did, but every place he thought he could light in had a sign saying "No candles allowed". He went to the cave and tried to light there, yes, without a beracha of course, but there as well there was a sign saying "no candles". He kept searching. He went up a staircase that led to an area above the cave and there he saw some bedrooms. He knocked on one of the doors and asked if he could light his Shabbat candles there. The man replied, "I can't believe you are here right now. I was just searching through my suitcase and I realized I didn't have candles to light for Shabbat. You are like an angel that was sent to save me." Rav Yosef was so excited to give him his candles. A great Rabbi pointed out, you see from this story when someone has a good intention like this man who wanted to light even though he wasn't obligated, Hashem takes those good intentions and brings them to action. He helped this man by having his candles be used in the real performance of a mitzvah, with a beracha . Hashem wants our hearts. Everyone could give them to Him. If we will have a yearning to do every mitzvah in the best way, and we will do what we can to perform them, then we know we are doing our job in this world the best way possible.

On this edition of Parallax Views, Israeli investigative reporter Meron Rappaport joins the show to discuss a MAJOR story he helped break last week with 972 Magazine, Local Call, and The Guardian: Israel's Covert War Against the ICC. According to the bombshell reporting Meron and others have done, Israel has engaged in a nearly long surveillance program against the International Criminal Court. Surveillance was aimed at both current chief prosecutor and his predecessor Fatou Bensouda. Additionally, Palestinian human rights groups like Al-Haq, Addameer, Al Mezan, and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) were targets of surveillance and there are connections to the controversial and scandal-besieged Israeli private cyber-intelligence firm NSO Group's Pegasus spyware to this story. This story includes allegations of illegal activity, intimidation, and blackmail. Read the story HERE: Surveillance and interference: Israel's covert war on the ICC exposed We'll discuss a numbe of issues-related to this story including how figures at the highest-levels of Israel's government, specifically Benjamin Netanyahu, figure into the surveillance program as well as the military (ie: IDF) and intelligence services (ie: Shin Bet) tie into it as well. Moreover, we'll look at how Israeli officials were initially enthused about Karim Khan taking over as chief prosecutor at the ICC until "everything changed" with the October 7th Hamas attack and the Gaza War. At the beginning of the conversation Meron will give his thoughts on the state of the Israeli free press in light of the recent attack on Haaretz's Tel Aviv headquarters where the main doors of the HQ's entrance were smashed. In the final portion of the conversation Meron discusses the Land for All movement that he helped cofound which offers a Confederation approach to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Many argue that the Confederation approach amounts to a push for a de facto one-state solution, but figures like Dahlia Scheindlin as well as Meron argue that it is actually a two-state solution for the 21st century that addresses the failures and missteps of the Oslo generation. All that and more on this edition of Parallax Views.
It's Hump Day! Sam and Emma speak with Meron Rapoport, editor of Local Call and writer at +972 Magazine, to discuss his recent piece entitled "Surveillance and interference: Israel's covert war on the ICC exposed", co-authored with Yuval Abraham. First, Sam runs through updates on Biden's blatantly illegal new asylum policy, the New York Times report on Israel's disinformation campaign against elected US officials, US primary elections, Indian elections, charges in Wisconsin's fake electors scheme, Chuck Schumer's Senate, Starbucks and Amazon union action, and Eric Adams' Cop City, before diving deep into Biden's new Trumpian asylum policy. Meron Rapoport then joins, as he walks Sam through the release of +972 and the Guardian's recent investigation on Israel's decade-long project of blackmail and surveillance against ICC officials, and the revelations around what Israel has done to keep the story under wraps. After expanding on the particular role that Yossi Cohen's Mossad played in initiating the project against then-ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, Rapoport steps back to assess the widespread nature of Israel's surveillance of ICC officials, why fear of criminal proceedings pushed Netanyahu to issue this authorization, and how they attempted to use the information to undermine the credibility of the ICC's sources. After expanding on the internal awareness of the criminal nature of Israel's genocide, Meron, Sam, and Emma wrap up by assessing whether the international backlash to Israel's ethnic cleansing of Gaza has had any major impact on the Israeli public's awareness. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma parse through the absurd mentality that led to Biden's new illegal (and inhumane) asylum policy, Gayle King's recent interview with a Jewish US Army Major who resigned in protest of the US' role in Israel's genocide, and talk with Dennis from Tennessee about the status of weed legalization. Dave Rubin calls out the anti-White US justice system that charged Donald Trump, before being corrected by Megyn Kelly of all people, Charlotte from DC unpacks the counter-arguments to anti-migrant talking points, and Christ from Pennsylvania shares some of the absurdity coming from America's fringe authoritarian youth. The MR Team also unpacks the insanely bigoted discourse around Caitlin Clark's rookie campaign (as presented by Clay Travis), plus, your calls and IMs! For a 20% discount on Rabbi Ashear's new book on Parnassah click the link below and enter Promo Code - Emunah20 https://www.artscroll.com/ Books/9781422640708.html Some people say they can't pick up a siddur to pray with. They feel betrayed. They had invested hundreds of tefillot, day and night, crying out to Hashem for help, but never got what they were asking for. They weren't asking for luxuries, and they knew it was so easy for Hashem to give it to them. They don't think that they are so bad that they shouldn't deserve what they were asking for. The only conclusion they have is that prayer doesn't really work, at least not for them, so why should they bother continuing with it. It is certainly not easy to deal with disappointment, but we must know this is one of our main jobs in this world. For someone like this to say, “I trust you, Hashem. I know You hear every word that I say, and I know You love my prayers,” and he continues to pray, it would elevate him so much. The prayers from a person who has so many reasons to turn away are so valuable. Every tefila is a mitzvah in its own right, and will earn a person eternal life, especially when it's so hard for him to do. Every tefila is heard, and every tefila counts. A businessman in Yerushalayim needed $300,000 to take his business to the next level, and went to the bank to apply for a loan. The bank dragged their feet and did not give him an answer for two months. During that time, he prayed so hard for heavenly help. He went to Meron to pray by the kever of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. He went to the Kotel numerous times. The day they finally called back, he was in the car, and immediately recognized the number of the bank manager lighting up on his phone. The first words he heard was, “I'm sorry, I hate to disappoint you, but we can't approve your loan.” To him, this loan was his entire future. His head started to ache, and he felt dizzy. He couldn't continue driving, so he pulled over to the side of the road. He thought of all the heartfelt tefilot that he had made. He said to himself, “ Ribono Shel Olam , what happened to all my prayers? Weren't they worth anything?” He was ready to give up on prayer altogether, but then he stopped himself, and he reminded himself of the basic principles of emunah. He said to himself, if Hashem decided not to give me this loan, that means it was the best possible outcome. He sat there for ten minutes, giving himself chizuk in emunah, and then he was ready to continue driving. As he was going to pull away, an elderly man knocked on his window, asking him for a ride. When the man got in the car, he asked if he could relate a short devar Torah . He then went on to give a mashal of how every tefila we make is heard by Hashem and connects us to Hashem. The man was floored. Exactly when he needed that chizuk , a man came into his car and asked him if he could relate that chiddush to him. That evening, he went back to the Kotel to pray, this time with deep-rooted emunah. He accepted Hashem's decision about the bank, and then he asked Hashem to give him the money in a different way. The very next morning, his accountant called and told him, he just found out that the government is giving financial backing to small businesses, but there are two conditions to get it. Number one, he had to have all the papers ready in two days. And number two, only someone with no outside financial backing qualified for the offer. Since he had just applied for the loan, he had all the papers ready, and because he was denied for that loan, he qualified for this much better offer. Nobody knows what we need better than Hashem. Sometimes all we need is just to keep praying more.
It's Casual Friday! Sam & Emma speak with Meron Rapoport, editor of Local Call and writer at +972 Magazine, to discuss his recent piece entitled "Surveillance and interference: Israel's covert war on the ICC exposed", co-authored with Yuval Abraham. Then, they speak with Canadian-American journalist & writer Guy Lawson to discuss his upcoming book Hot Dog Money: Inside the Biggest Scandal in the History of College Sports. After basking in some of the highlights from Trump's conviction, Guy Lawson joins as he reflects on the classic threat of authoritarianism and why people always fall for this ever-reiterating ruse. Next, Lawson walks Sam and Emma through his latest work on the absolute exploitation racket that is NCAA sports, first touching on the recent tentative settlement between the institution and the student-athletes they have refused to pay for years, before diving head first into the story of Marty Blazer, and how he came to expose the massive network of bribery that underpinned the entire NCAA system, with only the kids ever getting blamed. Wrapping up, Guy assesses the NCAA's future (and likely end), from anti-trust exemption to athlete compensation. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma reflect on Alan Dershowitz reflecting on Alan Dershowitz, parse through the highlights of the alt-right's reactions to the Trump convictions, and bask in Jerry Seinfeld going full idiotic reactionary. They also assess why Biden isn't putting a greater focus on Trump's conviction and abortion, plus, your IM's!
