International lawyer and judge Theodor Meron on issuing Netanyahu's arrest warrant, and how daydreaming helped him to survive the Holocaust.
While the world, and President Trump, continue talking about a "ceasefire" in Lebanon, Hezbollah continues proving over and over again that there never really was one. This past Shabbat, Hezbollah launched approximately 30 rockets and multiple explosive drones at northern Israel. Rockets struck near Kiryat Shmona, drones targeted communities across the Western Galilee, and sirens sent Israelis running for shelter throughout Safed, Karmiel, Meron, Metula, and surrounding areas. And rockets have continued all week. At the same time, Hezbollah continues using advanced optical drones to target and kill Israeli soldiers. In response, the IDF expanded its operations, crossing the Litani River, capturing strategic terrain near the Beaufort Ridge, and pushing deeper into Hezbollah strongholds across Southern Lebanon. But the question remains: Is Israel pursuing victory, or simply managing the conflict once again? In this video, Avi Abelow explains why ceasefires with jihadi terror organizations repeatedly fail, why Hezbollah remains the true ruler of Lebanon, and why many Israelis believe that only permanent Israeli sovereignty and security control in southern Lebanon can guarantee long-term safety for the people of Israel. We discuss:Hezbollah's latest attacks on northern IsraelWhy the Lebanon ceasefires have failedThe strategic importance of the Litani RiverThe future of southern LebanonWhy "conflict management" has repeatedly failed IsraelThe connection between sovereignty, deterrence, and securityThe biblical and historical significance of Israel's northern bordersFor decades, Israel has responded to attacks with temporary military operations, ceasefires, and withdrawals. The results speak for themselves. Hezbollah has grown stronger, more heavily armed, and more dangerous. It is finally time for a different approach.Watch, share, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.Am Yisrael Chai!Join Our Whatsapp Channel: https://chat.whatsapp.com/GkavRznXy731nxxRyptCMvFollow us on Twitter: https://x.com/AviAbelowJoin our Telegram Channel: https://t.me/aviabelowpulseFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pulse_of_israel/?hl=enPulse of Israel on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/IsraelVideoNetworkVisit Our Website - https://pulseofisrael.com/Donate to Pulse of Israel: https://pulseofisrael.com/boost-this-video/
A lot of times, may mga gusto kang mangyari sa buhay mo. Growing up in Nazi-occupied Poland, Theodor Meron had unsurprisingly very limited access to education. But with the help of family in then Palestine, Meron got a place at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and, well, the rest is history. From roles as a legal adviser of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs - and sharing some "controversial" opinions on the rights of Palestinians - to being a judge for the United Nations Criminal Tribunal, there is almost nothing the 96-year-old hasn't done; he's even writing poetry! As our guest on this week's episode, Theodor Meron regales us with the story of his life and how he came to be the 'godfather' of international humanitarian law. Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, “What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?” They stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?” He asked them, “What things?” They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body there they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see him.” Then he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures. As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.” So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?” That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem, and they found the eleven and their companions gathered together. They were saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and he has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had happened on the road and how he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread. We learned that Emmaus is not just a place; it is a state of being. A moment where our disappointment meets God’s divine presence. Women were always there. Through conversations with others, with our community, and even with ourselves, we encounter Christ. I also shared about the importance of clarity through inner work gamit ang M.I.C.K.: Motivate, Inspire, Cheer, Be kind. Mula sa book ni Coach Pia Acevedo na “Focus on What Matters”, we learned that if we don’t do inner work, we don’t just suffer alone; the people we love also encounter a compromised version of us. Mahalaga ang maayos na pag-uusap at pag-engage sa conversations that are uncomfortable but necessary. PART 3: CHRIST IN OUR MEALS Para naman sa ating ikatlong bahagi, ang ating tema ay “Christ in Our Meals.” Christ is revealed when the bread is broken. Dito, tinanong siya ng mga Pharisees at scribes, “Why do you eat with tax collectors and sinners?” Before this, he healed a man with dropsy, and he also challenged the religious leaders. Then someone said, “Blessed is anyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God.” Then Jesus replied with the Parable of the Great Dinner. A man prepares a great banquet and invites many guests. Umay, ‘no? So nagalit ngayon ‘yung host and told the servant to invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind instead of the wealthy friends who can repay them. Then the parable ends with a warning: “None of those invited will taste my dinner.” I also hold it as my personal advocacy ang magbahagi ng pagkain sa mga homeless whenever I am able. A presence that is ever inclusive, mapangyakap, at welcoming, tulad ng isang open table o bukas na hapag, regardless of our sexual orientation, gender identity, race, o katayuan sa buhay. Si Kristo ay kasama natin every step of the way. Imagine being killed in a supposed “legitimate encounter” against alleged members of the NPA. Nawa’y puspusin sila ng pag-ibig, yakap, at paghilom ng Diyos habang patuloy tayong nakikibaka para sa hustisya—because God’s love must always be tied to justice. INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY & SAINTS OF THE CHURCH I cap this preaching series na may bitbit na mga bagong kwento mula dito sa Taipei, Taiwan, kasama ang ilang sa ating mga members at music team leaders sa event na International [LGBTQ+] Alliance Christian Church. This event is also a popular culmination of what we learned sa Walk to Emmaus. Narinig natin ang journey ng ating Asian neighbors and their stories of struggles of being [LGBTQ+] Christians. Now they went through the same but different situations, just like the two disciples. The Philippines may have the highest percentage of Christians, but we are also a minority within the wider church. We are here to tell our stories, to share a meal with each other, and be a holy conversation with a wider community. To be with the wider community, to be in communion with each other, to be each other’s hope, knowing that even a small light in a great darkness is still light. I got this directly from a pastor from Japan kung saan she was asked just to remain silent and not embrace being [LGBTQ+] and Christian. Sa kwento ng isa nating church sa Singapore, they could not hold a Pride protest. And I will always remember the story of Pride from Bora, Korea. Isang straight sweet ally na literal na inalay ang kanyang buhay to fight along with her [LGBTQ+] siblings in Korea, even facing persecution from conservative churches and the government. I am truly blessed and honored to have met her here during Amplify 2018, and was saddened to hear about her passing a few years ago. Let’s always remember our Christian faith is much about remembering as it is remaining hopeful. At nawa ay patuloy nating alalahanin ang ating mga [LGBTQ+] saints: si Father Richard M. at ang kanyang passion; si Pastor Egay at ang kanyang gentleness at compassion; si Ninong Mike sa kanyang ever-welcoming spirit; at si Maxi Choy sa kanyang tapang at adbokasiya laban sa stigma and awareness about HIV and AIDS. I also remember Himalaya, and my promise to always guide our younger generations of [LGBTQ+] Christians. Sa ating pag-uusap, when we comfort each other kapag tayo ay sugatan, nalilito, o naghahanap ng sagot. Amen. In the past 30 years, this "minor holiday" in Judaism, the 33rd day of counting the Omer, has taken on greater significance, and is the place of the largest gathering of Jews in the world every year in on this day (Meron in Israel). This podcast will discuss this mystical day, its deeper concepts relevant today, though ancient sources, and help explain why this unique day has changed from a minor celebration to a day of great significance.

Throwing clothes onto a coffin was an (incorrect but emotionally understandable) practice in Talmudic days expressing an excess of grief. With Rashbi (described as ascending to Heaven in a Pillar of Fire), the tossing of clothes morphed into burning them to celebrate his unique petirah.

David Harris is joined by Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva Daniel Meron to discuss the rampant anti-Israel bias running amok in the 40 UN organizations headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and what Meron is personally and professionally doing to combat this "baked-in" prejudice.

Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be pregnant from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to divorce her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Look, the virgin shall become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means, “God is with us.” When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife but had no marital relations with her until she had given birth to a son, and he named him Jesus. Matthew 1:18-25 NRSVUE Sa Isang progressive church na intentionally mulat sa mga katarantafudahan ng bayan at mg Mundo, we are always confronted with the hardest question pag pasko and then later pag pasko ng pagkabukay… Is there something to celebrate sa kashitan na ito? But we are reminded na Hindi porket maraming kashitan, Tayo ay magpapatalo at magpapalugmok sa mga tae ng kasalukuyang kaganapan. Advent reminds is that there is always hope and our hope is based on the action of God throughout history. Kaya mahalagang mag-alam natin ang history because it proves to us thay things do get better eventually. Advent reminds that our peace does not come from the kings and emperors of this world but from the king of heaven who chooses to lower himself and become human, poor, a servant, and someone willing to die. Advent reminds us that there is joy and we must actively pursue joy. Mariz reminds us that Joy is rooted in grace and growing from the soil of ministry and Advocacy. Joy through ministry and Advocacy is our act of resistance against sa kashitan ng Mundo and it is a gift of God through community and shared work. Lastly, today, last Sunday of Advent, we are reminded in all of this it is always about love from love and towards love. Love that is not abstract but love na bodily – nagkakatawan – and intimately relational. Pag-ibig na gustong makipag ugnayan, nakikipag-kapwa, at nais yumakap at humipo. Eto any pag-ibig na Ang pangalan ay Emmanuel – God with us. God through us. Merong pag-asang masayang inaabangan para sa darating na taon in the face of all the shittiness now and will also continue to come. Mary and Joseph as Immanuel Sa last Sunday of Advent and our last worship of the year magandang paalala ang ating scripture reading tungkol sa pagkakatawang tao no Hesus ayon sa gospel of Matthew. Yan Ang main theological frame and linchpin of the gospel of matthew. It reminds us that Jesus is Immanuel – the living presence of God among us… But I want us to also look at this story a little differently. I want us to also realize that in the Story the presence of God to the Son of God was also Mary who chose and decided to conceive Jesus and give birth to him. She didn’t have to. She could say No especially when it will most likely get her into trouble and danger. But she said yes to the danger and to the physical struggle and pain of child bearing and child birth. Joseph also embodied Immanuel – God’s presence towards Mary and Jesus – when he decided to continue his marriage with Mary and not have her stoned to death for adultery. Despite his own internal struggle, shame, and pain, he accepted Mary and her pregnancy. She believed his dream when he does not have to. Unlike Kay Mary na Meron talagang nagpakitang anghel, so Joseph, nananiginip lang. Ano bang Malay nya kung lerler lang sya Ang under a lot of stress that caused that dream. Baka gusto nya lang paniwalain Ang sarili nya. But he kept faith and did not have Mary put to death. Or kahit Hindi na nga put to death, Sabi sa gospel, he just wanted to divorse her in secret para Hindi na mapahamak so Mary. But even with that, paano na lang si Maria bilang deborsyadang batang ina? Hindi man sya ma stone to death, how will she survive as a young mother divorced so young? She was poor and from a poor family herself. Peasante. So when Joseph decided to keep Mary as his wife and believe a dream, and be a father to Jesus, he was Immanuel to them. Pero Hindi lang si Mary and Joseph ant Immanuel Kay Jesus. Later the wise men who gave them resources to help them start over and who also decided not to go back to herod. Then sino-sino pa kaya any mga kapamilya, kapit-bahay, at mga kaibigan ni Maria at Jose na naging Immanuel sa kanilang pamilya at Kay Hesus? We are Immanuel to Jesus in our midst Our advent story and indeed Christmas tells us not only God’s presence in and through Jesus but God’s presence in and through Each one of us for each other lalong-lalo na sa kashitan na nararanasan ng isa’t Isa at ng ating kapwa. Not only that Jesus is God’s presence to us. But it is also how we are God’s presence to Jesus who is among us. After all Sabi nga ni Jesus rin whatever good you have done for the least of this, you have done for me. Sabi rin ni Paul that Christ lives in and through us. Paanong Tayo bilang open table, – community and a body – paanong Tayo rin ay katawan ni Kristo and presence ni God for our queer siblings and straight allies? Paanong Ang ating straight allies are God’s presence to our community of Open Table MCC? Reflection questions: As we end 2025… Let us reflect and look back. Tayo ay magmuni-muni Sinu-sino Ang naging Maria, Joseph, at Hesus sa iyong buhay nitong 2025? Who were the people who cared for you and were there for you in those moments of difficulty, pain, or loneliness? Who are those who took the time para kumustahin ka at makinig sayo? Sino any mga taong naging buhay na katugunan sa mga panalangin mo this 2025? Where the persons who became your answered prayers? Who were those who cared for you if and when you got sick? Ako sa akin buhay at bilang pastor, syempre pagoda mirasol Ako every Sunday or some days and ang immanuel para sa akin ay si Lawrence pag minamasahe nya Ako after Sunday or after one lagare day. Paano naging immanuel any open table sa buhay nyo this year? Whether you are here for a long time or bago la lang… How does open table continue to be God’s living presence in your life and spirituality?Reflectik. 2. Paano Naman kayo naging immanuel sa kapwa nyo this 2025? In what ways have you embodied Jesus nitong 2025? Sino Ang nilapitan mo para kausapin, kumustahin, at pakinggan kahit na inconvenient? Was there a time and a person you went out of your way to give your time and attention even? Meron rin bang mga times that you were less of a presence of God to someone or might even be the opposite nitong 2025? How have you repented as per Ardy’s preaching? How have you changed?Last reflection as reminded by our gospel today and this preaching, how can you continue to be Immanuel for 2026? Because the presence of God is marked by grace. What acts of kindness and grace will you continue or commit to do for next year here and everywhere? As Open Table MCC with our year of faith, how can we live and embody our progressive and queer Faith bilang nagkakatawang presensya ng Diyos sa mga nahihirapan at nasasaktan? Sa lahat ng kashitan at katarantaduhan ng sa ating bayan, how can we continue to embody Emmanuel and give the hope, peace, joy, and love of God in our own way sa mas malawak na pakikibaka? Next year is our year of faith, at ako ay tiwala sa Inyo to do well next year while at the same time pinagkakatiwala ko kayo sa presence of God that is in each other and among us. I trust you and God among you to live out your faith with grace and to embody Immanuel this 2026. The post We Are Immanuel appeared first on Open Table Metropolitan Community Church.

In this episode of the Programmatic Digest, host Helene Parker sits down with Jana Meron, programmatic veteran and sell-side expert, for a deep dive into how the buy side and sell side can finally bridge the gap. This episode serves as a preview of their upcoming joint workshop — The Sell-Side Programmatic Foundation for Buyers — designed to help traders, buyers, and ad ops professionals better understand how publishers, SSPs, and ad tech integrations actually work. Jana shares her fascinating career journey, from early media buying days to leading programmatic and data operations at Business Insider and The Washington Post. She brings her insider perspective on what really happens behind the publisher ad stack, the complexity of SSP integrations, and how demand path optimization (DPO) mirrors the buy-side's supply path optimization (SPO). Together, Helene and Jana explore: The disconnect between buy-side traders and sell-side ops teams How publisher ad stacks function behind the scenes The real meaning of SPO vs. DPO What “wrappers,” “pre-bid,” and “open bidding” actually mean in practice Why traders should collaborate directly with publishers (not just SSPs) How building relationships with publishers strengthens campaign results Why understanding the sell side helps buyers optimize smarter Whether you're a buyer, trader, or publisher, this conversation will transform how you see the other side of the programmatic equation — and why it's time to build more collaboration, transparency, and trust across the ecosystem. Welcome to What Matters Now, a weekly podcast exploring key issues currently shaping Israel and the Jewish World, with host Amanda Borschel-Dan speaking with leading economist Prof. Dan Ben-David. Ben-David heads the Shoresh Institution for Socioeconomic Research and is a senior faculty member in the Department of Public Policy at Tel-Aviv University. Earlier this month, he wrote an op-ed in The Times of Israel with the provocative headline, "‘Just not Bibi’ is not an action plan for a national pivot." In it, he lays out the need for a complete overhaul of swaths of Israeli society and institution -- and insists that this is the pivotal moment that it must be done. “The demographic-democratic window of opportunity is closing at an exponential pace. This is the time for leaders who demonstrate that they grasp the gravity of this moment and what is required of them at the crossroads that we’ve now reached,” he wrote. We drill down into Ben-David's vision for Israel 2.0 and its four cornerstones — educational overhaul, budgetary overhaul, a change in our system of government, and a constitution. We also dive into the role that the ultra-Orthodox or Haredi community plays in implementing — or torpedoing — his vision. And so this week, we ask Dan Ben-David, what matters now. On Lag BaOmer, Mirlana Morris opens up about the life and legacy of her son Donny, who tragically passed away in the Meron disaster of 2021. In a deeply moving conversation, Mirlana shares intimate memories of Donny's character — a vibrant, kind, and meticulous young man who touched countless lives with his quiet acts of kindness and sincerity. From his early years in Teaneck, NJ, to his transformative time at Yeshivat Sha'alvim in Israel, Donny stood out for his warmth, discipline, and inclusivity. Mirlana recounts the events of that painful night, the confusion and heartbreak that followed, and the powerful stories that emerged afterward — from Donny comforting kids at camp to always making sure to call his grandmother before Shabbat. Despite the unimaginable loss, she speaks about Donny's enduring impact and how he continues to inspire others through small, thoughtful actions. This emotional tribute is a testament to how one young life can make an everlasting difference. Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
Rav Haim Palachi (Turkey, 1788-1869), in his work Mo'ed Le'chol Hai, writes that the name of the month Iyar is an acronym for the names "Abraham," "Yishak," "Yaakob" and "Rahel," and thus alludes to our righteous patriarchs. This is why it is customary to learn Pirkeh Abot during this month, as it is closely associated with the Abot (patriarchs). Rav Haim Palachi adds that it is worthwhile for those who can to visit or to donate to the burial sites of our patriarchs – Me'arat Ha'machpela and Keber Rahel – during the month of Iyar. He further writes that on Pesah Sheni, which is observed on the 14th of Iyar, we omit Tahanunim from the prayer service, and one should conduct some sort of festivity. Those who are blessed with wealth should host a meal on Pesah Sheni for Torah scholars, and some have the practice to eat Masa. On Lag Ba'omer, which is observed on the 18th of Iyar and commemorates the day of the passing of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohai, it is customary to make a pilgrimage to Rabbi Shimon's gravesite at Meron in Northern Israel. Rav Haim Palachi warns that one must ensure not to engage in frivolity at this occasion, as the opportunity to earn great merit will then be transformed into an occasion of sin. He cites the Midrash's comment that one can earn great blessings in the merit of Rabbi Shimon by participating in this event, but only if it is done the proper way. Rav Haim Palachi adds that it is proper to read on Lag Ba'omer the book Shibheh Rashbi, which tells of the greatness of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohai, and various famous passages about him from the Zohar. The 28th of Iyar marks the anniversary of the death of the prophet Shemuel, and the Shulhan Aruch (Orah Haim 580) records the custom observed by some people to fast on this day. There is also a custom to pray by Shemuel's gravesite on this day.

Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai is a singular phenomenon throughout the generations. There is no other gravesite or yahrzeit of an individual that draws the masses as Rashbi, Meron, and Lag BaOmer do. Compare this to Rashbi's teachers and colleagues: few visit the grave of the great sage of the generation during the time of the Beis Hamikash's destruction, Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai. Not everyone visits the grave of the great Tanna Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Shimon's own teacher. Yet the holy site in Meron is the second most visited religious destination in Israel—after the Kosel. What is the uniqueness of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai?
In this powerful and deeply insightful conversation, Rahel Bayar sits down with Nachi Gordon to discuss her journey from being a sex crimes and child abuse prosecutor in the Bronx to founding The Bayar Group, an organization dedicated to abuse and harassment prevention across North America. Rahel shares how her early aspirations in psychology shifted to law, leading her to work on some of the most difficult cases imaginable—domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault. With years of courtroom experience and firsthand exposure to trauma, she eventually asked herself: Can this be prevented? Now a leading educator and consultant, Rahel trains schools, camps, and youth organizations on how to build safe environments without instilling fear. She breaks down practical prevention tools—like teaching children about body safety, the difference between secrets and surprises, and how to foster open communication—especially within the frum (religious Jewish) community. Whether you're a parent, educator, or community leader, this episode will leave you thinking differently about what it means to protect children and empower communities. “No healthy grown-up needs a child to keep a secret.” — Rahel Bayar This episode was made possible thanks to our sponsors: ►Blooms Kosher Bring you the best Kosher products worldwide. https://bloomskosher.com ____________________________________________________ ► PZ Deals - Download the app and never pay full price again! https://app.pz.deals/install/mpp _____________________________________________________ ►Toveedo Visit- https://toveedoshop.com Use Promo Code MM10 for $10 off! __________________________________________________ ► Aleph Beta Counting the Omer can feel like just counting. In today's episode, we are exploring the realities of military life in early modern and medieval England and how those realities are reflected (or not!) in Shakespeare's King Henry V. We will discuss historical misrepresentations of the English military during Shakespeare's lifetime and how recent scholarship has discovered a wealth of narratives that prove those previous understandings to be incorrect. We will also discuss the rules of war that existed historically during the reign of King Henry V and how accurately Shakespeare portrays and navigates those historical norms within the fictional world of the play.
The Chovot HaLevavot , in Sha'ar Cheshbon HaNefesh (Chapter 3), teaches that no one in this world can give us anything unless Hashem wills it. Even if a person was the only one in the world, he would not possess a single thing more than what Hashem decreed for him. And even if the world's population doubled, he would not have one possession less than what was meant for him. Rabbi Menashe Reizman gives a mashal : A father with 19 children had to make the simplest wedding for his youngest child, cutting out all possible extras. The child may have thought, "If only I were an only child, my father would have made me the grandest wedding." But this is entirely false. That child would have received the same wedding regardless of how many siblings he had. Hashem provides for each person individually, and no one else has any impact on what we receive. A hundred years ago, people worried that if the world's population continued growing at its current rate, food would become scarce—some even predicted that one apple would have to be divided among four people, based on the ratio of apples to people, at that time. At that time, there were 2 billion people in the world. Today, the population has quadrupled to over 8 billion, yet there is no shortage of apples—there are enough for every person to have more than four apples. Some now worry that, with the increasing population, the world will run out of oxygen. But we laugh at this notion because we understand that Hashem provides for every person individually, and no one is affected by the presence of others. A person can live in isolation, surrounded by abundance, yet be unable to benefit from it. Conversely, someone with little means, surrounded by many others, may still have everything he needs. It all depends on Hashem's will. Rabbi Yaakov Meir Schechter related a story from a time of famine in Yerushalayim when there wasn't enough bread for everyone. Bread had to be rationed based on family size. Ironically, the baker—who had access to all the bread he could ever want—contracted a rare illness that prevented him from eating any of it. No one could believe that the one person with unlimited access to bread was unable to enjoy it. Only Hashem determines who benefits from what. Rabbi Schechter also shared an account from Rabbi Shaul Sharabani about his experience living in the Old City of Yerushalayim when it was under Turkish rule. He and a friend received draft notices for the Turkish army. At the time, being drafted was considered a terrible fate, as both a person's spiritual and physical well-being were at great risk. Rabbi Shaul and his friend accepted upon themselves that if Hashem saved them from the draft, they would travel to the kever of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in Meron and spend the day thanking and praising Hashem for their salvation. In those days, traveling to Meron was extremely difficult, but they believed that their mesirut nefesh in fulfilling their promise would be a great zechut for them. B'chasdei Hashem , both of them were miraculously exempted from military service. Rabbi Shaul immediately fulfilled his pledge. He made the difficult journey to Meron and spent the entire day crying tears of gratitude and praise to Hashem. His friend, however, did not join him. Since their exemption had occurred through seemingly natural means—connections and assistance from others—he did not fully attribute it to Hashem. Unfortunately, just a few months later, this friend received another draft notice. This time, there was no way for him to get out of it. Our hishtadlut does not accomplish anything—only Hashem does. It is up to us to recognize this and internalize that Hashem provides for each person individually, and no one else has any effect on our lives.
It's Hump Day! Sam and Emma speak with Meron Rapoport, editor of Local Call and writer at +972 Magazine, to discuss his recent piece entitled "Surveillance and interference: Israel's covert war on the ICC exposed", co-authored with Yuval Abraham. First, Sam runs through updates on Biden's blatantly illegal new asylum policy, the New York Times report on Israel's disinformation campaign against elected US officials, US primary elections, Indian elections, charges in Wisconsin's fake electors scheme, Chuck Schumer's Senate, Starbucks and Amazon union action, and Eric Adams' Cop City, before diving deep into Biden's new Trumpian asylum policy. Meron Rapoport then joins, as he walks Sam through the release of +972 and the Guardian's recent investigation on Israel's decade-long project of blackmail and surveillance against ICC officials, and the revelations around what Israel has done to keep the story under wraps. After expanding on the particular role that Yossi Cohen's Mossad played in initiating the project against then-ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, Rapoport steps back to assess the widespread nature of Israel's surveillance of ICC officials, why fear of criminal proceedings pushed Netanyahu to issue this authorization, and how they attempted to use the information to undermine the credibility of the ICC's sources. After expanding on the internal awareness of the criminal nature of Israel's genocide, Meron, Sam, and Emma wrap up by assessing whether the international backlash to Israel's ethnic cleansing of Gaza has had any major impact on the Israeli public's awareness. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma parse through the absurd mentality that led to Biden's new illegal (and inhumane) asylum policy, Gayle King's recent interview with a Jewish US Army Major who resigned in protest of the US' role in Israel's genocide, and talk with Dennis from Tennessee about the status of weed legalization. Dave Rubin calls out the anti-White US justice system that charged Donald Trump, before being corrected by Megyn Kelly of all people, Charlotte from DC unpacks the counter-arguments to anti-migrant talking points, and Christ from Pennsylvania shares some of the absurdity coming from America's fringe authoritarian youth. The MR Team also unpacks the insanely bigoted discourse around Caitlin Clark's rookie campaign (as presented by Clay Travis), plus, your calls and IMs! It's Casual Friday! Sam & Emma speak with Meron Rapoport, editor of Local Call and writer at +972 Magazine, to discuss his recent piece entitled "Surveillance and interference: Israel's covert war on the ICC exposed", co-authored with Yuval Abraham. Then, they speak with Canadian-American journalist & writer Guy Lawson to discuss his upcoming book Hot Dog Money: Inside the Biggest Scandal in the History of College Sports. After basking in some of the highlights from Trump's conviction, Guy Lawson joins as he reflects on the classic threat of authoritarianism and why people always fall for this ever-reiterating ruse. Next, Lawson walks Sam and Emma through his latest work on the absolute exploitation racket that is NCAA sports, first touching on the recent tentative settlement between the institution and the student-athletes they have refused to pay for years, before diving head first into the story of Marty Blazer, and how he came to expose the massive network of bribery that underpinned the entire NCAA system, with only the kids ever getting blamed. Wrapping up, Guy assesses the NCAA's future (and likely end), from anti-trust exemption to athlete compensation. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma reflect on Alan Dershowitz reflecting on Alan Dershowitz, parse through the highlights of the alt-right's reactions to the Trump convictions, and bask in Jerry Seinfeld going full idiotic reactionary. They also assess why Biden isn't putting a greater focus on Trump's conviction and abortion, plus, your IM's!
