Ivy and Bane begin their new version of Extreme Makeovers: Home Edition. The best renovation show, can I add? Bane takes Ivy's water love rather literally and irrigates the place. In this week’s episode, Jake, Val, and Tracy continue Jack Black January with Jared Hess’ film Nacho Libre. This offbeat comedy film stars Jack Black as a friar in Mexico who helps feed children at an orphanage. He begins to wrestle in matches at night to earn money for the kids, and desperately works to keep his identity a secret so he won’t be forced to leave the order. It’s the follow up to Hess’ first major Napoleon Dynamite and it has the quirky and unique vibe that film had. So put on your stretchy pants and join us as we talk about Luchadore wrestling and the silliness of Jack Black’s accent. What are your thoughts on the film? Is it a favorite or one you would go back and revisit? Send us feedback at podcast@moviesthatmakeus.com. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Mucha Lucha! This week Kyle and Matthew sit down with graphic design/tattoo artist J. Gonzo (http://jgonzodesigns.com/) and author Keith Rainville (frompartsunknown.com) to talk about the art of Mexican wrestling: Lucha Libre. First, Gonzo talks tattoos, his history of giving them, and the scary ways to get 'em. Turns out Kyle has a lot of friends with prison tattoos, which should surprise no one. Natalie also gets upset because Gonzo has offered to give Kyle his long sought after “Slow Ride” tattoo. But that is a story for another day. The boys get down to business and discuss the history and cultural significance of Lucha Libre wrestling. They talk about how Nacho Libre was many Americans' first exposure to Lucha culture. Gonzo defends the film for all its flaws and points out a few ways that the film could have gone from third-tier Jack Black movie to legit love letter to Lucha wrestling. Speaking of movies, Kyle picks Keith's brain about the history of Luchadores on film. For those who don't know, Luchador films are an amazingly weird genre where you can watch a man in a mask fight guys dressed like Dracula. Believe it or not, that's something Kyle is SUPER into. Burnside, as the host most well versed in wrestling, works to understand the differences between American and Luchador wrestling. Gonzo and Keith also explain how the styles diverged and evolved over time and how Luchadore wrestling plays into the identity of Mexican culture. Keith talks about his history with Lucha Libre and the Lucha zines he published throughout the '90s. They talk about '90s zine culture and how zines about specific subcultures found their way around the world in a time before the internet. Both Gonzo and Keith's lives and careers have been massively affected by Lucha culture, and they share some experiences from their own lives that are pretty incredible. Get ready for some high flying moves, mysterious characters, and masked men punching werewolves in the face. This episode has everything! Viva! Weekly Rads: White Reaper, Prey, Cowboy Bebop Raddendums: Love and Rockets, Latino Comics Expo, Lucha Mexico, Tales of Masked Men, Santo vs. the Vampire Women, Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards, Champions of Justice, Nacho Libre, Lucha Lucha, Sonámbulos, Lucha Underground, Fantastic Planet, Los Straightjackets

On Episode 225 of Trick or Treat Radio, our intrepid hosts meet one of their greatest challenges when they come face to face with the two headed Chimera of Cult Cinema. However, the boys are not alone this time, they team up with the educated intellectual luchadora, Necromandrea! They chop and kick their way through the current sociopolitical climate while dodging derailments and offensive comments. All that stuff is tiring, so before the big showdown we all sit down together to discuss the Mummies of Guanajuato! Alright, that’s not exactly what happened, but we do speak with Bill and Chris from Outside the Cinema to review The Mummies of Guanajuato. We then hang out with Andrea Subissati from The Faculty of Horror, Lady Hellbat on YouTube and Rue Morgue Magazine! So grab your copy of Rue Morgue, don your Mil Mascaras cape, and strap on! Stuff we talk about: MZ not knowing Reverend Scott, the electoral college, Lady Hellbat, The Faculty of Horror, Luchadore fashion, Mil Mascaras, the correct pronunciation of Tinieblas, Get Out, Canadian Horror, our favorite lucha movies, heat in the studio, Mr. Chris’ cars shopping, Top 25 Horror Podcasts by Rue Morgue, the Romero zombie films, ineffective bad guy plans, Blue Demon/Santo heat, Mil Muertes, 3 Dev Adam, Savini’s Night of the Living Dead, this year’s horror output, Satan the Mummy, our new president elect, shared lucha universe, Guillermo Del Toro, Champions of Justice, favorite Faculty of Horror episodes, El Santo’s film schedule, Lucha Underground, Dynamo off camera, Rev Scott's meme success, lucha sidekick, Vampire el Sexo, lucha adoption, Survival of the Film Freaks, 20th Century Bastards, MonsterZero Bobby Drake, and how the current sociopolitical climate will influence the next wave of horror.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/trickortreatradio)

For lucha libre wrestlers, masks are everything. They wear them in the ring, they wear them to the grocery store, they wear them any time they appear in public.
