Lace up your cleats and dust off your NES cartridges because this week's Play Comics is kicking off with a real goal-scorer! We're diving headfirst into the pixelated pitch of Tecmo Cup Soccer Game, the NES classic that's more RPG than FIFA. Join us as we explore this 8-bit reimagining of the beloved Captain Tsubasa manga, where special moves are more powerful than Pelé's right foot and every match is a turn-based tactical showdown. And who's that coming onto the pitch? Oh sweet we're joined by the incomparable Luke Herr from D'OhMance Dawn, who's here to add some romantic flair to our soccer shenanigans. Will Luke score a hat-trick of puns? Can our host avoid getting a red card for excessive enthusiasm? And just how many soccer metaphors can we cram into one episode? Tune in to find out! So grab your controller, warm up those thumbs, and get ready to shout “GOOOOOAAAAAL!” at your podcast app. It's time to see if Tecmo Cup Soccer Game lives up to its manga roots or if it's just playing offside with our nostalgia. Let's kick off this episode! Learn such things as: What if Nintendo World Cup was a manga? What king of parents let their child go halfway around the world with someone they just met? How do you make a sports game with basically no sports gameplay? And so much more! You can find Luke over on D'OhMance Dawn, Exiled, Multiversal Q, and RPG Pals Club. Yu-Gi-Oh is something I never really got into growing up. Or now for that matter since I've gotten into some things now that I should have gotten into when I was younger. Although I was kind of around it since I was into Pokemon and Magic: the Gathering so it's not a totally 100% new thing to me. Plus the memes. Good thing I somehow convinced Luke Herr to come back for another session of “Luke Explains Things To Chris that Chris Should Already Know About.” This time he takes on Yu-Gi-Oh and a combo shot of games in Forbidden Memories and Dark Duel Stories. Will we be trapped in the shadow realm for attempting this? Only one way to find out! Learn such things as: How well do card games translate into video games? Did anyone plan this thing out or did stuff just get thrown at the wall? How were kids who watched this not completely traumatized and as a general rule experienced mental breakdowns? This has got to be one of the shortest comic runs I've seen to get a game. 13 issues on the initial run, 4 issues on the relaunch that tied into the game. And it shows, I never hear anyone talking about Armorines. I can't imagine why. So why try to make a game out of this one? Acclaim is at it again trying to recapture some of that Turok magic, and Luke Herr from Exiled, Multiversal Q, John Wiki, The Luke Herr Podcast Project, Established Property Playhouse, and RPG Pals Club (Did I miss anything there?)  comes on the show to help explain what's going on with this crazy comic. Mostly because he's literally the only person I know who's read this thing. Plus he made notes. Really good notes. Learn such things as: What dumb dad joke did we take almost an hour to make? Where is the rest of the Valiant universe? How successful is our pitch to an actual Valiant editor going to be? And so much more! Luke Herr from Exiled, Multiversal Q, and RPG Pals Club comes by the show to talk about his comic Super Slasher. Luke is great and I really love everything I’ve seen from him and I don’t expect Super Slasher to be any different. If Super Slasher sounds like something you want to get your hands on then go visit the Super Slasher Kickstarter and give him your money. I already did so you can’t pressure me with the same tactics. You can find Luke over on Exiled, Multiversal Q, and RPG Pals Club. Or catch him on Twitter @koltreg. Also if you’re looking at this on the Play Comics website then you’re definitely seeing a page from the comic that Luke sent over to me. Not sure about anywhere else. Or, you know, you could just support the Kickstarter and get a lot of pages in your mailbox at a future date instead of continually looking at this one which really doesn’t have much context just sitting out there by itself like that.
