In this week's Finding Harmony Podcast episode, you'll come to the confluence where Kundalini and Ashtanga yoga meet… In the heart of Sat Inder Khalsa: the Kwisatz Haderach. In this episode, we learn that in Frank Herbert's Dune Universe, a Kwisatz Haderach would be a male Bene Gesserit, who would have access to the memories of both his male and female ancestors, as well as an ability to bridge space and time with prescient ability... In other words, He would be Bene Gesserit, Reverend Mother, Mentat, and Guild Navigator, all in one. Our beloved Sat Inder is a devotee of the Divine Mother and shishya to her servant Yogavidananda. Sat Inder is an Authorized Ashtanga Yoga teacher, lover of mythology, a great storyteller, and a retired “Kundaloonie” (as he likes to say). No podcast historiography of Ashtanga Yoga would be complete without him as a guest! Enjoy this spectacularly irreverent take on what also happens to be a most sincere interest in spiritual paths and practices. Sat Inder tells us of his days as a Kundalini Yoga Teacher, leaving the practice of Ashtanga yoga behind, only to have it come back to him again, calling him to Mysore, India. We talk about the Law of Attraction, his visit to the Kamakhya Temple in Assam, where he reset his energy and altered his understanding of devotion forever. Interestingly, he often contemplates death and mortality. And has found that this morbid obsession with impermanence has become a doorway to liberation and a constant reminder to live more fully. We hear of Sat Inder sitting on the Manikarnika ghat, (one of the two cremation sites in Varanasi), where visits with Aghoris, members of the mystical Hindu sect known for extreme rituals, devotees of Shiva manifested as Bhairava, as they illuminate his mind. Finally, we talk about the paradox inherent within the Ashtanga system: The attachment to the body, and yet the goal of becoming non-attached to the body. This episode may be triggering for some listeners, as we also asked Sat Inder about his personal experience of receiving the “mulabandha adjustment” from Pattabhi Jois on tour in 2000. This episode is a pot boiler, a bodice ripper, and a barn burner all in one!! Enjoy! And if you think this episode is good… you should catch the BONUS episode with Sat Inder! Mark Twain once said, "Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together." Banaras which is called by different names such as Kashi and Varanasi is said to be a timeless city. It is also called Avimuktaka, the sacred space never to be forsaken by Shiva. It is believed to be the original ground created by Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Those who die here are guaranteed liberation from the repeated cycle of birth and death. Manikarnika which is the chief burning ghat on the Ganges bank in Banaras is never to be without a body burning on the pyre. It is said to be every Hindu's duty to make sure Manikarnika never goes idle! Considered to be one the holiest Hindu cities, this town breathes divine bliss. And today on the Indian Podcast, we will be talking about the living history of Banaras which is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world with Ms. Pooja Sodhi, who is a seasoned marketing professional and a blogger. She has been studying Indian traditions and is a culture enthusiast and writes about them on her blog poojasodhi.com

Famous Indian Personalities - Everyone Should Know About

Rani Laxmi Bai was named Manikarnika Tambe and was nicknamed as Manu. She is also known as Jhansi Ki Rani, the queen who was fought against the British without any fear. She was born on 19th November 1828, in the town of Varanasi. Her father was Moropant Tambe and her mother Bhagirathi Sapre. Her father was the commander to the King of Peshwa, Bajirao of Bitoor district. The Peshwa called her "Chhabili" for her playful nature. She was educated at home and learned sports with her friends Nana Sahib and Tatya Tope like martial arts, horse riding, sword fighting, and more. She always preferred traveling on the horseback to using a palanquin. Her horses included Sarangi, Pavan, and Baadal.   She was married to the King of Jhansi and that's when she became Rani Laxmi Bai from Manikarnika. Later she adopted a boy and named him Damodar Rao. After the death of the King, the British Raj officers applied the Doctrine of Lapse, a policy according to which if any Indian ruler dies without leaving a natural male heir, his kingdom would automatically pass over to the British. As a result, the Britishers wanted to claim Jhansi to which Rani Laxmi Bai cried out "Main apni Jhansi Nahi doongi". That is when the fight against the Britishers started. She would tie her kid around her chest and fight on horseback.   There are novels, articles, and movies made in honor of her bravery. Even Netaji named the women regiment of the Indian army as Rani Jhansi regiment. The famous statue of Rani Laxmi Bai. She is an inspiration for all her countrymen. How do you convert myth into movie? Manikarnika or the Rani of Jhansi is the stuff of legend. The warrior queen led an army against the British Empire. In 1858, she died on the battlefield at the age of 29. The first requirement to translate this to screen is to get an actor who can convince us of this incredible courage. And on that count, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi gets it absolutely right – Kangana Ranaut is on fire as the iconic Rani Lakshmibai. Her spine is erect, her eyes are unblinking and she seems propelled by some other-worldly power. She’s riding horses, wielding swords, leaping on elephants and making it all look plausible. When she looks into camera and insists on dying for the country, you want to follow her into battle.
