News: Some new and returning entertainment is coming to Disneyland in 2022. An expanded “Celebrate Gospel!” will debut in February at the Fantasyland Theater, and “Tale of the Lion King” will return in the spring, also to the Fantasyland Theater. The Main Street Electrical Parade will return to Main Street in time to celebrate its 50th anniversary in June. Fantasmic! and World of Color are also announced to return, with no firm time frame yet. Finally, Disneyland Forever fireworks will also be lighting up the sky once again in 2022. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/12/more-fan-favorite-entertainment-returns-to-disneyland-resort-in-2022-including-celebrate-gospel-and-tale-of-the-lion-king/ Nothing quite beats a food festival at Disneyland! Lunar New Year and Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festivals are returning in 2022. The Lunar New Year celebration in 2022 is based on the Year of the Tiger, so Tigger will be joining the festivities. Raya, from Raya and the Last Dragon will make her debut at Disneyland for the celebration as well. The Lunar New Year runs January 21st through February 13th. Starting March 4th and running through April 26th, the Food and Wine Festival will return. Sip and Savor passes will be offered for both celebrations. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/12/fan-favorite-limited-time-festivals-return-to-the-disneyland-resort-in-2022-lunar-new-year-and-disney-california-adventure-food-wine-festival/ As we have been covering for a few weeks now, Jessica Rabbit is taking over Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin. Last week, Jessica Rabbit, dressed in her best detective outfit, made her appearance in the attraction. A new figure was placed next to the car trunk that she used to be inside of, then where she held the sledgehammer, she has been changed over to the new look, and finally, her silhouette has been updated in the queue to reflect the new look. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/12/11/photos-new-detective-jessica-rabbit-animatronic-debuts-at-disneyland/ and https://www.micechat.com/309922-roger-rabbit-cover-up-at-disneyland-jessicas-new-starring-role/ The Disability Access Service, better known as “DAS” has been improved! Starting with visits on December 20th, guests who utilize the service can pre-register for the service virtually with a Cast Member. To do this, guests use a live video chat feature as early as 30 days prior to their visit, but no less than 2 days before arrival. Guests can then book up to two one-hour return windows for select experiences, per day in advance. In the future, Disney says that guests enrolled in the system will be able to same-day self-select an attraction, without having to visit with guest relations. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/12/07/guests-can-now-virtually-pre-register-for-disneylands-disability-access-service/ It was great to be able to ride it's a small world on it's first day of operation for the holiday season, but it took a lot of work to get it open! The Disney Parks Blog documented the process. The underground maintenance room of the attraction, known as “the pit” flooded on November 10th, while refilling was underway. Almost all of the ride control machinery is in the pit, and was submerged in at least 7 feet of water. Twenty different teams sprung into action to get the attraction working again. They set a timeline of 4 weeks to get it operational again. More than 200,000 gallons of water needed to be pumped out of the pit before teams could even begin to determine the damage. Teams worked to determine what could be cleaned and salvaged, and what needed to be replaced. Many of the spare parts which they could use were stored in the same pit. The team reached out to small world attractions around the world to get the needed parts. They met the goal of under 4 weeks and reopened the attraction on December 6th. The timeline was expected to be several months under normal conditions. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/12/how-disneyland-resort-cast-rallied-to-open-its-a-small-world-holiday/ We saw first hand how the launch of the Genie system in Disneyland went last week. The first hour or so worked well as we were able to buy our Genie+ service, and make a couple of Lightning Lane reservations for Guardians and Midway Mania. We were even able to mobile order some food and have a lot of PhotoPass photos taken. About an hour into the day, the entire system went mostly unresponsive. The free Genie service to plan the day only displayed an error, and reservations for Lightning Lane attractions could not be made. Even the Lightning Lane+ pay-per-attraction options were not available. However, around 5pm, the system seemed to come back online and continued to work for us perfectly until the end of the night. Even the couple hours the next morning, the free portion of the service seemed to be working well. – https://www.micechat.com/309918-disneyland-update-genie-fail-entertainment-holiday/ If, like us, you were in the parks on December 10th for the launch of Genie+, and you used the service, you may have received an email from Disneyland. The email states that they are “working to provide recovery” for the launch. Not exactly sure what that means at this time, but it is possible that Disney will either refund guests, or provide some other perk for the inconvenience. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/12/13/select-disneyland-genie-users-to-be-provided-recovery/ A new Star Wars photo opportunity has come to Downtown Disney. Next to the Star Wars Trading Post, there are two new displays for The Book of Boba Fett, the new Disney+ show coming later this month. The first is a throne that Boba can be seen sitting on in the trailer for the new show. The second is a sand crawler, which fans will know from the original movies and the Mandalorian. – https://www.micechat.com/309918-disneyland-update-genie-fail-entertainment-holiday/ A strange construction project that drew a lot of attention has finally been completed. The right side of the walkway to ToonTown has finally come out from behind construction walls and has been revealed to be an ADA access ramp. Theories had been talked about like a new Lightning Lane queue, or other odd options, but this is just an ADA ramp for people needing the less bumpy path and slighly less grade going to ToonTown. – https://www.micechat.com/309918-disneyland-update-genie-fail-entertainment-holiday/ It is going to be easier to spot former Disneyland, and other Disney Parks Ambassadors in the future. New gold Disney Ambassador Alumni name tags have been created that take their inspiration from Walt Disney's Disneyland employee #1 badge. The new name tags were presented to the current alumni at a recent alumni gathering. So, next time you are in the parks, be on the lookout for a gold name tag to see if you are in the presence of a former Disneyland Ambassador. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/12/new-alumni-name-tag-for-disney-ambassadors/ It has been a little while since guest's paper parks have been able to grow – until now. A new Disney Paper Parks: Holiday Edition has been posted on the Disney Parks Blog. The Paper Parks are designed by Imagineers for all to enjoy. The holiday version is 12 ornaments, for the 12 days of Christmas, featuring different parks around the world. Starting in Disneyland and moving through all the parks around the world, this is a set not to be missed! Last week, Disneyland hosted a Galaxy of Wishes fundraising event in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. The money raised from this event will help the Make a Wish Foundation be able to grant more wishes for children with critical illnesses. Disneyland was part of the first wish back in 1980. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/12/galaxy-of-wishes-disneyland-resort-and-make-a-wish-join-forces-to-create-more-magic/ We wanted to have the final update on the Cast Member union negotiations and voting that took place a couple of weeks ago. The Cast Members voted to accept the current contract, which will offer $1 per hour retroactive to June 16, 2021, $1 per hour starting June 16, 2022, but being pulled forward to November 17th, 2021, and a final $1 per hour on June 16, 2023. Cast members who were hired on or before June 16, 2001 will get $2000 for fulltime and $1000 for part time, one time payments. Cast members hired between June 17th, 2001 and June 16, 2011 will receive $1000 for full time and $500 for part time, one time payments. News: This week, we got some more details about the Genie service coming to the parks soon. Over in Walt Disney World, the service will launch on October 19th. No date is set for Disneyland yet, but Disney says it will be announced soon. The Genie+ service, which is an additional cost, will be available at a number of attractions and works just like MaxPass from before the closure. Individual Lightning Lane selections will be an additional purchase on top of Genie+ and Lightning Lane, and will be priced from $7 to $15 per attraction, per guest. At this time, only Radiator Springs Racers, WEB Slingers, and Rise of the Resistance will be on the Lightning Lane+ service. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/08/disneyland-reveals-new-disney-genie-details-heres-how-the-itinerary-planning-app-works/ and https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/10/disney-genie-launching-at-walt-disney-world-resort/ At Disneyland, the following attractions will feature Lightning Lane as part of the Genie+ paid service. To be clear, these are part of the $20 per guest, per day Genie+ service, and not part of the Lightning Lane additional charge. Autopia, Big Thunder, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones, it's a small world, Matterhorn, Smuggler's Run, Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Star Tours. Over in DCA, Goofy's Sky School, Grizzly River Run, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission Breakout, Incredicoaster, Monsters, Inc., Soarin', and Midway Mania. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/08/disneyland-announces-22-rides-where-you-can-pay-to-skip-the-lines-heres-how/ and https://disneyland.disney.go.com/genie/ Guests that have been to Disney California Adventure this past week on rainy days may have been able to ride Web Slingers by waiting in a standby queue, instead of getting a boarding pass. Disneyland is switching to a standby queue on days when the attendance are lower for the new attraction. Guests who get a boarding group at the 7am window will have their boarding group honored, but there may not be a need for the noon boarding groups, and switch to standby only. The standby queue usually becomes active around 4-6pm. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/12/disneyland-pauses-web-slingers-virtual-queue-on-slow-days-and-switches-to-standby-line/ One of the big questions guests have been asking a lot recently is what is going on with the trams? The Orange County Register thinks that it is still related to the COVID-19 health and safety regulations that have been in place since the parks reopened. There were some posts online this week that said the trams were needing repairs after not being run for nearly a year and a half and maintenance teams are already overloaded. So, the real answer to when the trams come back is anyone's guess. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/11/when-will-disneyland-parking-lot-trams-return/ Joffrey's Coffee & Tea Company has finally made it to the west coast from Florida. The coffee stand that sits at the entrance to Pixar Pier and Paradise Wharf was recently converted to a Joffrey's, along with adding mobile ordering and some food offerings. Breakfast offerings are abailable until 11am, with a burrito available after. A chia fruit salad, sugar cookie, chocolate chip cookie, and chocolate croissants are offered all day. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/10/photos-joffreys-coffee-tea-company-makes-disneyland-resort-debut-at-the-gourmet-coffee-stand-at-disney-california-adventure/ Disney+ has been an excellent source of information and entertainment about the parks since it launched in 2019. A new movie, which will focus on the creation of Disneyland, will be debuting on the service in the future. The movie will be written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who worked on The Jungle Book 2 and Beauty and the Beast. David Gordon Green is set to direct. He worked on Halloween and Halloween Kills as the writer and director. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/10/movie-focusing-on-disneylands-creation-coming-to-disney/ The Disneyland Resort has been hiring quite a few new cast members recently, although not a lot with more than two legs! The Circle D Ranch has recently received 5 new horses for Disneyland. The new horses are Dublin, a four-year-old Belgian and Percheron cross, Champ and his half brother Chip, who are 5 years-old and are Clydesdales. Lily is 5 years-old, with no breed mentioned. Finally, there is Pumpkin, who is one-and-a-half years old, and is a Percheron. The training to get horses from the ranch to Disneyland can take from 6 months to a year, depending on the horse. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/10/meet-the-new-disneyland-horses-at-circle-d-ranch/ After three long years, the current Disneyland Ambassadors Justin and Rafa, who would normally have held the position for two years, but because of COVID, their term was extended to three years, will retire to other positions in the parks. The new 2022-223 Ambassadors were announced last week, making their titles official. Mark is currently a stage manager in Disney California Adventure, starting with the company back in 2013. Nataly is a guest relations VIP hostess, starting with the company back in 2010. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/10/meet-the-next-disneyland-resort-ambassador-team/ Weeklyteers who are like Tage and love building models of Disneyland, there is a new 3D model book coming out soon! “Build Your Own Disneyland Park: Press Out 3D Model is now available for preorder on Amazon for $14.99. The book has 35 press out pieces and instructions to build a 3D model of Disneyland. There is also some information about each of the lands in the book. The book will be out on December 7, 2021. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/10/shop-new-build-your-own-disneyland-park-3d-model-fact-book-available-for-pre-order-on-amazon/ For Weeklyteers who watched the Muppets Haunted Mansion Halloween special on Disney+ this week, the Disney Parks Blog has released some wallpapers, stickers, and more! Some of the wallpapers include Miss Piggy as Madame Pigota, Animal, and Muppet versions of famous locations from the Haunted Mansion. There are some GIPHY stickers when you search Disney Plus Life on Instagram, and more. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/10/celebrate-muppets-haunted-mansion-with-all-new-digital-wallpapers-stickers-and-more/ The Haunted Mansion exhibit at Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln has been updated to include some of the props that were used to film the Muppets Haunted Mansion special. Some of the items include a “2 DIE 4” license plate, the crystal ball from Madame Pigota, the maids spray bottle from that same scene, coffins, and more. There are even notes from the Muppets themselves about some of the items! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/10/08/photos-you-can-see-props-used-in-muppets-haunted-mansion-in-disneyland/ Uva Bar in Downtown Disney has some new drinks on the menu for Halloween. The Beetlejuice contains vodka, melon liqueur, and blue curacao, the Vampire Bite has Nolet's gin, rosemary simple syrup, pink grapefruit, and soda water. The Trick or Treat has High West bourbon, pumpkin spice syrup, lemon juice and soda water. Finally, the Black Cat has vodka, raspberry liquor, and lime juice. Hollywood Brown Derby Cobb Salad(found on www.disneyfoodblog.com)Salad Ingredients:-1 cup chopped iceberg lettuce leaves, washed and spun dry -1 cup chopped chicory leaves, washed and spun dry (radicchio and curly endive work just the same) -1 cup tender sprigs of watercress, washed and spun dry -1 pound turkey breast, finely chopped -2 medium-sized, ripe tomatoes, peeled, seeded and finely chopped -1 avocado, peeled, seeded and finely chopped -½ cup crumbled blue cheese (about 2 ½ ounces) -6 strips bacon, cooked crisp, drained, and crumbled* -3 hard boiled eggs, peeled and finely chopped -2 tablespoons snipped fresh chives -1/2 cup bleu cheese, crumbled -½ cup The Hollywood Brown Derby Old Fashioned French Dressing (not the orange French dressing we are used to, more like a vinaigrette)Dressing Ingredients:-2 tablespoons of water -2 tablespoons red wine vinegar -1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice -½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce -½ teaspoon salt, or to taste -½ teaspoon minced garlic (one clove) -¼ teaspoon of sugar -1/8 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper, or to taste -1/8 teaspoon dry English mustard (ground mustard works too!) -1/3 cup vegetable oil -2 tablespoons olive oilDirections:Step 1: Cook bacon and hard-boiled eggs. For an easy tip, cook bacon in the oven at 350 F for 30-40 mins. while preparing everything else!Step 2: Next you want to work on your dressing! In a small bowl, combine water, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, garlic, sugar, pepper, and dry mustard. You are adding ALL of the dressing ingredients except vegetable oil and olive oil. Whisk together until well blended. Whisking constantly, add the vegetable oil and olive oil in a steady stream until the dressing is emulsified. Store covered and chilled until ready to serve. Whisk the dressing to blend just before serving.Step 3: The art and beauty of this salad is that all the ingredients are all very finely chopped! So, get to chopping! Finely chop the iceberg lettuce, chicory, and watercress. Toss the finely chopped iceberg lettuce, chicory and watercress together and arrange in a large salad bowl.Step 4: Chop all ingredients (turkey, avocado, tomatoes, blue cheese, bacon, and eggs). What I learned is that it is better to keep all of these items in separate bowls until you are ready to serve the salad. That way you don't have tomato juices running through the lettuce and other items making everything soggy.Step 5: When ready to serve, arrange all ingredients in straight and separate lines across the top of the greens. Sprinkle the snipped chives in two diagonal lines across the top of the salad (I found it easier just to make one line).Step 6: At the table when you are ready to serve, pour in all of your dressing and toss the entire salad.
