Richard and Sarah review and break down CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD. And since this is the 35th entry in the MCU, we'll tell you some of the surprising Marvel films and TV shows you should brush up on before watching. This is what we wish we would have known going in. Please note that there will be minor plot spoilers, but overall they will help you enjoy the film even more. We love behind-the-scenes nuggets, so this breakdown will include sound bytes from Kevin Feige (Executive Producer/Marvel Studios President), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Executive Producer), and Harrison Ford (President Thaddeus Ross). Today in Star Wars History 2/12/1978 The first Expanded Universe novel, Splinter Of The Mind's Eye by Alan Dean Foster, is published by Del Rey. Splinter Of The Mind's Eye is written to be filmed as a low-budget sequel to Star Wars. That is why it's set on the misty planet of Mimban. Mimban is seen onscreen in Solo: A Star Wars Story. We broke down and did a review of Splinter Of The Mind's Eye in Episode 407. SPONSORS Small World Vacations is an official sponsor of Skywalking Through Neverland. As Luke and Leia find themselves marooned on the mysterious planet of Mimban, Jenny Rudloff finds herself back on the podcast to talk with us about Star Wars shows she isn't watching, the alternate timeline in which this story was the basis for the second Star Wars film, what exactly a splinter of the mind's eye even is, and to hear about a cricket that got trapped in Brian's house.
“Aldhani” (Andor S1, Ep. 4) is an episode cut with surgical precision. The four looping subplots of Aldhani draw us through one of the most beautiful and intricate Star Wars episodes we've ever seen. The dialogue? Perfection. The scenery? Flawless. The depths of Star Wars lore plumbed? Fathomless. We are BIG FANS. In our recap, we talk about the 10,000 Easter eggs and pieces of trivia saturating this episode. We also discuss the characters we love…to hate. (Syril Karn is finally booted out of the Number One spot by Mon Mothma's terrible husband, Perrin.) And we dive deep into Cassian's Mimban backstory—plus, discuss the many women struggling to negotiate their roles in the galaxy. Want even more Growing Up Skywalker? Welcome to Long Time Ago, a journey into the Marvel Star Wars Legends Comics. Our host Angus first made the jump to hyperspace and a galaxy far far away by reading Marvel Star Wars Vol 1 Issue #9 and never looked back! Travel back to 1977 into the origins of the series and discover how comics has supported fandom and in some ways shaped the Star Wars universe. This thirtieth episode is a review of the fourth issue of Dark Horse Comics's adaptation of the novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye. "Deep in the swamplands of the planet Mimban lies a powerful crystal, capable of giving its possessor an invincible mastery of the Force. In the right hands, it could save the galaxy. But in the wrong hands, it could destroy it. While the explosion of the first Death Star still reverberates through the cosmos, Luke Skywalker finds that the war he thought he won was only a battle, and that the dark side of the Force still stalks the galaxy." Continue reading Afsnit 148: Star Wars Podcast 12 – Solo: A Star Wars Story Part II
Nicht der erste LEGO TIE Fighter, nicht der tollste TIE Fighter, aber ein ordentlicher TIE Fighter: Der Imperial TIE Fighter 75211. Vier Minifiguren sind dabei: Imperialer Pilot, Han Solo, Tobias Beckett (in der Verkleidung eines Mimban Stormtroopers) sowie ein Mimban … Weiterlesen →
Finally, we two physical copy troglodytes get our hands on the Solo: A Star Wars Story home release and sit down to discuss the special features! Besides discussing some of the deleted scenes, a favorite being the extended fighting on Mimban, Blaine and Josh also talk about filmic influences on the Fort Ypso scenes, the reverence shown to the Falcon, and why being in Star Wars means more to Paul Bettany than any other cast member. Plus, we discuss the Resistance sneak peek and try to contain our excitement/disappointment it will be premiering while we record next week’s episode. All that and Josh swallows some dust while Blaine brings up Star Trek on this week’s H1R.
This week's episode focuses on 'Solo' - what I liked, what I didn't like and everything in between!
In Solo: A Star Wars Story, Tobias Beckett considers taking Han and Chewie off Mimban with them because his crew is "short-handed." But how did they get short-handed in the first place? The movie doesn't explain, but the "Expanded Edition" novelization has the answer - and also reveals whether Beckett saw Han or Chewie as bringing the element he needed to add back into the crew. On this episode Dominic, Ben, and Chris track the bizarre week of rumors about cancellations and non-cancellations of Star Wars movies that were never announced. They look at how the lackluster returns for Solo: A Star Wars Story at the box office may impact the stand alone films going forward and speculate about what this Mos Eisley movie might have been. They also continue the discussion about Solo by breaking down the Mimban sequence. Plus, Lando might be back for Episode IX, more SDCC exclusives, and comics news. All this and much more! It's all about Mimban on today's episode, including details of the past exploits, adventures, and unexpected turns of luck that brought together one of the most iconic duos in movie history. There's no big midnight toy event for the Solo: A Star Wars Story movie release this time around. Instead, the toys have been revealed in a post on StarWars.com. And as we've done for previous movie releases, we're checking the toys out to find out what they might have to tell us about the upcoming movie. One thing off the top: the way we thought things are going to go down on Mimban has been thrown into uncertainty... Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Two planets in Solo: A Star Wars Story have been confirmed outright: Corellia (Han's homeworld), and Mimban, the swamp planet you may remember from the earliest days of the Expanded Universe. A third one has been strongly hinted at: Kessel, of the infamous spice mines. Now, thanks to the commercial and the teaser for Solo - and one other source we've talked about before - we now have information that puts the planet total anywhere between four and six (with more potentially to come). Hawes and Will do their best to cover all of the Star Wars news from this week. Our first glimpse of Solo footage comes during the Super Bowl. Does the Falcon's appearance in Solo cause a plot hole? No. Is Han's car speeder based off of a Ford Falcon? Does the train in the first teaser reference Shadows of the Empire? What's up with the new villain in Solo? Thoughts on the full teaser trailer. What's the general outline of the plot? How many planets will we see? Mimban, a planet first seen in Splinter of the Mind's Eye, appears in Solo! Interesting information from Anthony Breznican. L3-37 is a "self made" droid. Qi'ra and Han have a "connection." The difference between how Han and Solo treat the Falcon. Hawes is looking forward to Solo related products. David Benioff and DB Weiss are announced to be working on a series of new Star Wars films. Bob Iger reveals more information during an earnings call. "Multiple" Star Wars series in development for the Disney streaming service. Rumors of a launch period for the Disney streaming service and some of the content that it will contain. Episode Two Hundred Twenty Four: "You're listening to the Grand Army of the Republic broadcast, the voice of the Outer Rim. This next one goes out to the Mud-Jumpers of the 224th, slugging it out on Mimban." This week, we have a new camera and attempt a more focused show than last week. We discuss "Silver Linings Playbook," as well as how the will and vote of the people don't matter when things are left to city councilors and the mayor. Pat Robertson actually said something reasonable for the first time ever. Victoria Jackson went on Howard Stern and was just as crazy as you'd expect. We follow this up with what my be an official indicator of just how unfit some people are to be parents. We also note that Rick Santorum is "open" to running in 2016. To that we say, "GOOD!"
