In today's Daily Fix:Casey Hudson, director of the just-announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, is assuring fans that the game will be out before 2030. This comes after some on social media are guessing the game won't be about until then, which isn't too wild of a guess considering Hudson's new studio was just formed this past summer, and the long development times of Triple-A games these days. There's also the KOTOR remake, which was announced in 2021 and has seemingly been stuck in development hell since then. In other news, Larian Studios just dropped a new update for console versions of Divinity: Original Sin 2. The game is now optimized for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, as well as Nintendo Switch 2. The next game in the series, titled Divinity, was just announced at least week's Game Awards. And speaking of, Phantom Blade Zero made a splash at The Game Awards with a new trailer, but if you're an Xbox or Nintendo fan, don't expect the game to launch side-by-side with the PS5 version. Phantom Blade Zero is a PS5 exclusive for at least one year.

The Knights of the Old Republic's characters are what make it the strongest Star Wars video game series of all time. Even though the combat model, graphics, and RPG elements are somewhat archaic, the characters, including the villains, stands the test of time. In fact, I challenge anyone in the comments to mention a better cast of characters or stronger dialogue in the genre today. When I played KOTOR for the first time in 8th grade, RPGs were an enigma to me. All I wanted to do was mainline the story, not bothering with any paths of resistance or sidequests that were too challenging. I can recall never skipping dialogue and always reading descriptions of every weapon and piece of armor I acquired. I wanted to absorb everything I could about this new Star Wars universe like Darth Nihilus devouring the Force. Now, as a seasoned ultra-chad gamer, I see how much content I left unplayed. I complete as many quests as possible, minmax my stats, and try to complete all my companions' quests as well. However, when it comes to Star Wars, the villains must stand out. This is the franchise that has the villain, after all. And although the villains in KOTOR mirror or rhyme the OT, the baddies of KOTOR 2 are clearly in a world of their own. These are monsters that you will never forget. Let's just say they would eat Sidious and Vader for lunch, but they are also tragic in their own way. The Exile and the crew of the Ebon Hawk return to Dxun at the behest of Jedi Master Kevar, loyal guardian of Onderon's queen. Onderon itself is at war, and like everything else in KOTOR 2, this crisis could spiral out of control and destabilize the wider galaxy if things go bad. And that's why the Exile and co will need to split into two teams, finally kill a bunch of Sith randos, and spend like an hour doing basic algebra and deeply confusing logic puzzles. With two new party members in tow (and some dark secrets about our old crew newly learned), the Exile heads back to the first of two locales originally visited by Revan and co. during KOTOR 1: Dantooine. The old Jedi Enclave lays in ruins from a Sith attack towards the end of the last war, and the newly emerging government finds itself needing to serve three factions: fearful farmers, bored mercenaries, and sneaky salvagers. And none of them are big fans of Jedi.  Also, we meet one of the biggest herbs in the galaxy.
