Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTHIt's a lawless time, y'all. Organized crime syndicates are running a muck since the fall of the Galactic Republic, forcing others to fight for survival. On the industrial ship-building planet Corellia, Lady Proxima, leader of the White Worms gang, is after a hyperfuel known as coaxium. That's when we meet Han. He is trying to escape Corellia for good. He feels confident he can do that after getting his hands on some coaxium. His girlfriend Qi'ra is pumped. But as they go to escape, they are found by some of Proxima's baddies and are taken to her. He's like oh I don't have an coaxium, but what i do have is THIS! He pulls out a rock and throws it through a window which lets in light which Proximia and her species are allergic to and they escape! But it does take long for them to catch up with him and a chase ensues. They bribe an Imperial officer at a spaceport for passage off-world. Han makes it through, but Qi'ra is captured at the last moment. Separated by a security gate, Han promises to return for her.Alone and desperate, Han enlists in the Imperial Navy. When asked for his surname, he's called “Solo” since he claims to have no family. Fast forward three years, Han has been expelled from flight school for acting a fool and is now down in the mud of a battle. There, he encounters a group of thieves disguised as soldiers—Tobias Beckett, Val, and Rio. When Han tries to blackmail his way into their crew, Beckett has him arrested and thrown into a pit with a deadly creature: a Wookiee named Chewbacca.Han and Chewbacca form a quick alliance, escaping together and convincing Beckett to take them in. Realizing Chewbacca's brute strength is valuable, Beckett agrees. The crew sets off for their next job—stealing coaxium from a moving train. The heist goes sideways when they're ambushed by a gang of pirates. Rio is fatally shot, Val sacrifices herself, and the coaxium is lost in the chaos.Beckett reveals they were working for Dryden Vos, a high-ranking figure in the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate, and now owe him. To make amends, Han and Chewbacca offer to help steal unrefined coaxium from the mines on Kessel. Beckett agrees and takes them to Dryden's luxurious yacht, where Han reunites with Qi'ra—now a high-ranking lieutenant.Vos approves the plan but insists Qi'ra accompany them. She leads them to the suave smuggler Lando Calrissian, hoping to use his ship, the Millennium Falcon. Han loses a rigged card game to Lando but convinces him to join the mission in exchange for a cut. With Lando's droid co-pilot L3-37 onboard, the team sets off.On Kessel, L3 sparks a riot among droid slaves, while Chewbacca breaks off to free Wookiee prisoners. The team escapes with the coaxium, but L3 is destroyed and Lando is injured. Using L3's navigational system, Han pilots the Falcon. Han hatches a plan to outsmart Dryden Vos. It's a classic double cross station. When they meet again, Dryden exposes Beckett as his informant. But Han had anticipated the betrayal—the coaxium given to Vos is real, and the fake decoy was a bluff.Beckett takes Chewbacca and the coaxium hostage, but Han later confronts and shoots him before he can retaliate. Meanwhile, Qi'ra kills Dryden Vos but secretly contacts her true boss: Darth Maul. She takes Vos's ship and leaves, choosing to embrace her role.Han tracks down Lando and challenges him to a rematch in cards. This time, Han wins, gaining ownership of the Millennium Falcon. With Chewbacca by his side, Han sets off for Tatooine, following a tip about a powerful gangster—Jabba the Hutt—looking for smugglers for a big job.

Today we discuss Ambush at Corellia, the first book in the Corellian Trilogy. Han is taking his family to Corellia for a vacation before a major trade summit. Lando has roped Luke into his latest scheme. What could go wrong?
After a long wait, Ahsoka, the latest limited series from Lucasfilm, has arrived on Disney+. On this episode of the Smugglers' Galaxy Podcast, Glen and Jason dive into the first two episodes and share what they loved from this series. They go everywhere between speculation about the new bad guys on the show to the return of our favorite heroes. They also speculate on the identity of Marrok, the masked inquisitor who has a show down with Ahsoka on Corellia. They also discuss the limited news from the Star Wars collecting world, their latest pickups, and so much more! Ahsoka's first episode set a tone and the second continued the theme. She's looking for Thrawn...oh, and Ezra, too. Hera and Sabine couldn't care less about the bad guys. They just want their friend back. Huyang is trying to preserve his circuitry while Chopper cares very little for collateral damage on Corellia. Baylan seems like the most interesting man in the galaxy and that's based on more than looks. Elsbeth dips her finger into witchcraft in the episode and Marrok shows off HIS lightsaber training. It certainly doesn't look anything like what he might have learned from Kanan. Maybe Thrawn? Then again, how would HE be able to get back, but Thrawn be in "exile" as Elsbeth puts it? The real problem (so far) continues to be Filoni's decision to make Sabine force sensitive at all. There is a way to do it and the way he chose to do it makes no sense based on every single character development she went through in Rebels. He has six more episodes to make it make sense. Somewhere, Dickey (David Cross) visits a friend, Lonnie (Kevin Anderson), hiring him to take back the painting that Mansell (Boyd Holbrook) took from his house. Mansell and Sweety (Vondie Curtis-Hall) meet at a parking garage with another person in the book. However, the man only has $12,000 instead of the $15,000 they asked. When Mansell rams his car, the man flees and accidentally falls off the building to his death. Raylan talks to Downey (Marin Ireland) about getting to know about the book, with Downey correctly deducing he slept with Carolyn. They meet with prosecutor Diane (Regina Taylor), blackmailing her into working with them. As her name is in the book, she will be part of a trap set for Mansell and Sweety, or she will be exposed for taking bribes. Lonnie arrives at Sweety's Tavern, forcing Sweety to leave Mansell's penthouse to meet him. Their meeting is interrupted when Sweety is called by Diane, who offers $30,000 to get her name removed from the book, agreeing to meet later. Sweety also gives up Mansell's name to Lonnie, instructing him that Mansell must be killed while Sweety himself gets the painting for him. Sweety is also revealed to be taking care of a young Carolyn, after promising her dying father to do so. He takes her to a dilapidated bar, planning to reconstruct it and turn it into a new tavern for him. In the present day, Carolyn (Aunjanue Ellis) sees an ambulance take Sweety's body away from the destroyed tavern. She and Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) visit a grieving Trennell (Joseph Anthony Byrd), who confesses to having taken Sweety's gun off the jukebox. Raylan then visits Sandy (Adelaide Clemens), who refuses to testify against Mansell (Boyd Holbrook). However, she is shocked when Raylan informs her that they found the gun that Mansell used to kill the Judge, Rose, and Sweety, with Sandy unaware of the latter's death. Sandy decides to visit Skender (Alexander Pobutsky) at the hospital to reconcile, but panics once he calls her "a dead woman." Carolyn arrives home to find Mansell waiting for her. He starts talking about his childhood in Oklahoma, partly about how his mother had sex with many men from the Glenn Pool Oil Reserve. Angry, he waited until a man left and killed his mother. He also points out that his story may be false, suggesting his mother actually died in a tornado. She threatens to back off as her lawyer, but he holds her at gunpoint. The following day, Raylan finds that Downey (Marin Ireland) is actually in Mansell's book, which explains why she allowed him to go. Bryl (Norbert Leo Butz) also admits to Raylan that he has framed criminals due to insufficient evidence, but he also provides him with Mansell's murder weapon. Regrouping with the fleet, Ahsoka meets with General Hera Syndulla, where Huyang reveals that the star map is still locked. Syndulla advises Ahsoka to obtain Sabine Wren's help unlocking the map. Just as Wren unlocks the map, she is confronted by Shin, who steals the map and stabs Wren during a duel. Then we jump to "Part Two: Toil and Trouble" where Wren recovers and informs Ahsoka of her findings. Wren also traces the droids that attacked her previously to Lady Elsbeth's factories on Corellia. Seeking the star map, Ahsoka and Syndulla travel to the Corellian shipyards in time to see a massive hyperdrive built for Elsbeth's ship to travel to Thrawn's hiding place. The hyperdrive escapes to hyperspace after Chopper attaches a tracking device. After arresting some rebels as spies for the Empire, Ahsoka is contacted by Wren who is ready to become her Padawan again and find Bridger. Elsbeth is contacted by Skoll, Hati, and Marrok who obtained the hyperdrive so they can finish building the Eye of Sion and find Admiral Thrawn. This second episode was awesome! We have a new galaxy to explore in Star Wars with new villains and powers beyond the Jedi and Sith. Baylan says that galaxy, Peridea has power that we have never seen before. I believe this is a galaxy with a new set of rules. New people. New powers. Powers beyond the force, perhaps Magic. I think it's absolutely brilliant how Dave has created another galaxy, many of them in fact, and is introducing new civilizations that make even Baylan, a powerful Jedi who survived Order 66, amazed. Ahsoka and Hera observe the hyperdrives being dismantled on Corellia to be repurposed to the New Republic, as they learn that ex Imperials work for the new republic, still on pay roll. They were never fired, they all kept their same job just no longer under the Empire. They talk about Sabine becoming Ahsoka's apprentice again, and Ahsoka is reluctant. A medical droid attends to Sabine's wounds, this is the same class of droid that worked on Anakin as he transformed into Darth Vader. Huyang walks in and tells Sabine that Ezra's lightsaber is actually now hers because she has modified it to her liking. He hands it to her after some encouraging words, and she is going to get serious now instead of being such a rebellious brat. We learn that these dismantled imperial fleet ships when sold are profitable to fund many different republic projects among other things. As Hera notices the hyperdrive core outside being built, they're told 9 have been built. This core is WAY too big to be used for any new republic ship. The information is classified and General Hera Syndulla is being denied. Ahsoka asks about the HK assassin droids that could be repurposed here, as they learn a droid of this class does exist here, currently departing on that transport. The traitorous workers scream FOR THE EMPIRE and attack Ahsoka and Hera, as Hera races for the Ghost and Ahsoka jumps out the window facing Marrok. The inquisitor loyal to Baylan it seems, as he holds a red lightsaber. They fight as Hera chases the hyperdrive core being transported. Chopper tries to find the tracker, as he throws a literal big LEGO piece out, finally finding the tracker. This is hilarious. Marrock can't take Ahsoka and ends up running away to his or her ship. I have no clue who this is. It could be Barris Offee I think, but I don't know. Ashoka dodges his lightsaber as it returns to him, she's in control of all emotions and can sense everything. She's very samurai. Very one with the force. Sabine heads back home, lays her Mandalorian armor out like a Samurai, kneels before it which is very ritual like, and cuts her hair. The imperial loyalists on Corellia are arrested. Also, for a fun fact, Corellia is where Han Solo was raised. Sabine sends a holo to Ahsoka of her in armor. She's ready. We're now at the very end of Rebels where she dawns the armor, observing the mural of the ghost crew, touching Ezra's face, turning to see Ahsoka there to pick her up. We're now all caught up and ready to find Ezra…and…THRAWN. Huyang informs them Hera Syndulla has tracked the ship, they're in Denab system, in orbit around the planet Seatos. As the hyperdrive cores are being put together, we can see this is HUGE. Clearly something big enough for a massive ship to be launched into hyperspace…or perhaps…open a portal using the power of the hyperdrive cores. Learn more about your ad choices. The world wasn't ready for Solo: A Star Wars Story when it premiered in 2018. But we contend it's the perfect Star Wars movie for 2023. In our recap of the first half of Solo, we talk about the critical reception this movie got—probably TOO critical, since it's a romp and it's absolutely delightful. We talk about growing up as a scrumrat on Corellia, Qi'ra's ascent to a position as top lieutenant among Crimson Dawn, and why young Han Solo is so shiny and likable. We make a case for creating a lighter Star Wars story, and talk about why this non-Jedi-centric movie works. The ships are fast, the banter is faster, and the aesthetics are impeccable. We can't wait to review the second half. In today's episode, Leah and Kelli watch up to the hour and four minute mark of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Kelli recounts the origins of Han (and his last name) in his home planet of Corellia, and how he briefly joins the Empire (much to Leah's surprise), and our two hosts digress a lot about their favorite tropes and the star studded cast of the film. Leah also admits her faux pas of confusing part of the Solo storyline with Rogue One!Join us next week for our FINAL episode of Season 2 of It's All Geek to Me, where we'll finish up Solo and maybe share a hint about what franchise we'll tackle next! And in the meantime, feel free to join the conversation - you can find us on Twitter and YouTube, so let us know your thoughts on the Solo movie. Salutations my fellow Corellians. Not sure why I'm aligning my origin to Corellia. My name is Luca. Luke was raised on Tatooine. He's technically 1/2 Nubian. That's right Nubian not "Naboolian" like the Wookiepedia says! Here's my evidence. Episode I. Tatooine. Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn is inside Watto's Starcraft Parts Store. He asks him for parts to the hyperdrive of Queen Amidala's ship. Both Qui-Gon and Watto refer to the ship as Nubian. The subtitles on Disney+ confirmed as I'm writing this. Speaking of origins, Han is from Corellia. Han sounds German. AJ took German in high school until German 3 Honors. He would later drop that course for the following reason: "All they spoke was German." I am as disappointed as you. What's not disappointing (segue), was this episode. It can be divided into 3 story-lines. The main part follows our hero Cassian and his stint in prison and how he plans to get out. While I find it somewhat cheap how the writers got him into prison, I think they have something special planned for how they get him out. The 2nd part follows around ISB and how they're trying to uncover as much as possible about this "network" of rebels stealing Imperial tech. Their main goal is finding Axis (Luthen). If they find Andor, they think they'll find this central Axis figure tying everything together. The 3rd storyline continues to follow around Mon Mothma. I find her storyline the weakest. The only think interesting is the writers have linked Vel and Mon Mothma directly. Not only as co-conspirators but, family! I am still intrigued as to how their going to solve the problem with the money. They've enlisted another tertiary character Tay Kolma. Now they've mentioned another character with whom Mon Mothma has nothing but disdain. Most likely a gangster. Someone an Imperial Senator would not want to openly be associated. Hopefully this character is as interesting and vile as Mon Mothma's reaction to his name. Time will tell. Why else would they show how elaborate and cruel the containment of the prisoners is? Since their method of imprisonment cleverly prevents escape. Their escape must be equally clever. We have 3 episodes left for Andor to find a way out. The Imperial Security Bureau is looking for him. The Rebels are looking for him. Who will find him first. What will they do when they find him? These questions are not answered in this episode. As I write this, I ask myself why I didn't bring any of this up during the broadcast. I gave myself 24hrs after 2 back to back viewings of the last episode to gather my thoughts. Here I am. Writing this. Tell us what you thought of this episode. Shoot me an email. Tweet at us. Audience engagement. Luca, signing off. Thanks for listening. Star Wars: The Princess and The Scoundrel by Beth Revis will conclude with Part TWO of Youtini's roundtable book series. We will finish with overarching questions and that classic Star Wars Easter egg finds you may have missed on the first read. Beth Revis's https://youtini.com/book/the-princess-and-the-scoundrel-989465a4f3 (The Princess and the Scoundrel )picks up immediately during the festivities on Endor after the Empire's defeat to showcase the proposal, marriage, and honeymoon of the Crown Princess of Alderaan and the…well…former citizen of Corellia. The couple enjoys a quick ceremony and celebration on the forest moon before being whisked away to the Halcyon, the premiere starcruiser on the Chandrila Star Line. During their voyage, the couple discovers a few of the early trials of married life along with the fact that although the Emperor has been defeated, the Rebel victory isn't quite complete. ▶Star Wars: The Princess & The Scoundrel Review | https://tinyurl.com/55j5zntw (https://tinyurl.com/55j5zntw) ▶Get Your Copy of Star Wars: The Princess & The Scoundrel | https://tinyurl.com/bdenh9zw (https://tinyurl.com/bdenh9zw) ▶The Youtini Book Review System | https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=video_description&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbHdMZHAyM3ZFSkpNa2QwNF9vRFFzZDR1YWVQd3xBQ3Jtc0tuQ1VHTGIxTkcyOXNsdXdMNWhNa1RITVNyeWhxS1pCc2htRENhUVdLd2lGWkh2VDlrTlVvQUwzbUxBclRCMEFFRG1HWElUSl9aVTNMMXpVejJnUHVqSlAxdDZfbWFkOW1xX28wRGk5bEN5S2hWdElJNA&q=https%3A%2F%2Ftinyurl.com%2F2p857edd&v=fm4XQ0VJrHA (https://tinyurl.com/2p857edd) ▶New Book & Comic Releases on http://youtini.com/ (Youtini.com) | https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=video_description&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbHdQdDJ5amR3U3l1LWRGLU9XN0NEWVdST0JnQXxBQ3Jtc0ttR2diampHaGxneXhuMjV0REo0MjRzbDBGTlhVLUYtcnptNFZuaGI5d1JrdThERXQ0U1lXdDVrSk5JVjdDd1UyWlJ0emc2UmNVVHNyVFFaVm44ZVlsVUlIVklCd0swRXZwZHp2SktGTlVnNVVzSUJmOA&q=https%3A%2F%2Ftinyurl.com%2F4bnhp8du&v=fm4XQ0VJrHA (https://tinyurl.com/4bnhp8du) ▶Complete Star Wars Timeline | https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=video_description&redir_token=QUFFLUhqa2N3M001cWg5djZWNWJrWndWaHNzTlFSS3h2QXxBQ3Jtc0tuTy1RZUJyZ0FVN3M1eDlnc1FBaktrbU5KdWVMQ0VxdG9WNG5yZ1VzMmp6STd6YWRhSm02SUxCZzgzY2tEdnZnZ3FSN1FuTVktYnlkR1ZRdndSZTJjcVhieUt1Z09uTEZFUV8tUHhHSUc5Z2ZPVk1ZMA&q=https%3A%2F%2Ftinyurl.com%2Fyznkb8w7&v=fm4XQ0VJrHA (https://tinyurl.com/yznkb8w7) JOIN OUR COMMUNITY ▶ WEBSITE https://www.youtini.com/ (https://www.youtini.com) ▶ DISCORD https://www.youtini.com/discord (https://www.youtini.com/discord) ▶ TWITTER https://twitter.com/youtini_us (https://twitter.com/youtini_us) ▶ INSTAGRAM https://www.instagram.com/youtini_us/?hl=en (https://www.instagram.com/youtini_us/?hl=en) ▶ FACEBOOK https://www.facebook.com/youtini (https://www.facebook.com/youtini) SUPPORT YOUTINI ▶ WEEKLY CONTENT ON PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/youtini (https://www.patreon.com/youtini) ▶ YOUTINI MERCH: https://www.youtini.com/merch (https://www.youtini.com/merch) GET MORE STAR WARS BOOKS ▶ Get A FREE Star Wars Audiobook: https://www.youtini.com/audible (https://www.youtini.com/audible) ▶ Best Canon Book To Read First: https://www.youtini.com/book/lost-stars (https://www.youtini.com/book/lost-stars) ▶ Best Legends Books To Read: https://www.youtini.com/guide/best-star-wars-legends-books (https://www.youtini.com/guide/best-star-wars-legends-books)

Kyle Katarn and Xanthe discuss minutes 6-10 of Solo: A Star Wars Story. In this excerpt of the film, Han and Qi'ra escape from Lady Proxima's lair, get chased at high speeds through Corellia, and end up at the Spaceport. We discuss Han Solo's themes, the visual language of Star Wars, and why John Williams is the "emotional taskmaster of the movies." Discussion Guide: 00:00 - Hello there! 04:00 - Grindalids 15:12 - Han starts with a Hail Mary, but when he starts to achieve success, his music grows more confident. 16:22 - John Williams wrote a couple variations of Han's theme to reflect his different states. 22:18 - How do contemporary Star Wars composers balance between being authentic and emulating John Williams? 29:24 - On Solo drama, leaks, news, public discourse in 2018. 35:05 - Is this a violin sul D or sul G in "Corellia Chase"? 48:51 - The dice. 55:59 - Silent world building during the Corellia Chase. We fly through all these set pieces showing us Imperial checkpoints, TIE fighters on an assembly line, etc. 1:02:39 - Hint of the Star Wars Main Theme... and what it may represent. 1:08:30 - John Powell getting a lot of mileage out of the John Williams themes. 1:12:46 - Emotional taskmaster of the movies. 1:20:11 - SWMM Questionnaire Things to Check Out: Kyle Katarn's previous episode on Star Wars Music Minute: https://youtu.be/WMtZhUZnINM John Powell posted the score video to "1m4-5 Corellia Chase" on his YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/gwxKd0BU4ew John Powell shared a video from the scoring session for "Corellia Chase" - https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2055945587962066 Themes: 2b. You can download it free at his website: https://franklehman.com/starwars/. Where are we in the soundtrack? end of "Bunk / Proxima (1M2-3)" (about the last 10 seconds) full track: "Corellia Chase (1M4-5)" or "Corellia Chase" beginning of "Spaceport (1M6-7)" or "Spaceport" (until about 0:57) STAR WARS MUSIC MINUTE QUESTIONNAIRE: 1. In exactly 3 words, what does Star Wars sound like? Epic. Exotic. Alive. Pewpew! Brrrrrr! Pppphufff! (rough transcription of Kyle's sound effects...) 2. What's something related to Star Wars music or sound that you want to learn more about? The process of crafting new sounds to represent species or technologies. What parameters or instructions are sound designers given? Is it like "I want it to sound wibbly wobbly" or something subjective like that? 3. What's a score or soundtrack you're fond of besides anything Star Wars? Kingdom of Heaven (composed by Harry Gregson-Williams) Bonus Question: What would you encourage listeners to pay more attention to on their next viewing of Solo? Pay attention to what's going on in the background during fast-paced moments like the chase, because there are a lot of important world building information, Easter eggs, and references to other Star Wars media that can be found.
