Send us a Question!MOVIE DISCUSSION: Kathryn joins Melvin to discuss Jon Favreau's grounded indie-style flick, Chef! The two explore themes of maturing and parenthood, the relationship between the artist and the observer, and the importance of passion in everyday life. Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 25-minutes talking about those insane A Minecraft Movie screenings where people are throwing their popcorn and bringing live chickens, and how that's wildly different to otherwise incredibly engaging fan screenings of The Room or Rocky Horror Picture Show. (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)Kathryn shares what it is about Chef that she really enjoys.Melvin compares Chef to Parks & Recreation, saying how it's a movie with conflict but ultimately everyone still kinda likes each other. It's fairly clear that Chef is somewhat an artistic response to John Favreau's experience with Marvel, Iron Man 2, and the subsequent critical response to it.Which food in the movie got us the most hungry. The movie explores the dynamics of the artist and the observer (or, critic), and Melvin spends some time categorizing what he thinks are variations of these archetypes.Chef depicts professionalism and the pursuit of maturity well.Sometimes eating food is like time travel.Seeking to live a life by design, not by default.Recommendations:Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking (2017) (Cookbook)Salt Fat Acid Heat (2018) (Cooking Show)Try new and exotic foods, and be adventurous with what you eat! This week on Peanuts and Popcorn, we open the popcorn bag to break down the Pedro Almodovar sex comedy, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988). We then discuss a request from a listener, Swingers (1996) with John Favreau and Vince Vaughn. In Peanuts, we mourn the passing of Whitey Herzog. We analyze some recent MLB umpire miscues. Max Fried, of the Atlanta Braves, pitches a Maddux. The Chicago Cubs have a successful homestand despite a rash of injuries, while the Detroit Tigers fight for respectability in the American League. Next Show: Leo's Pick: The Whistlers (2019) Tom's Pick: The Last of Sheila (1973)
This one is for all the babies that listen to us, in this episode we watch "Swingers" directed by Doug Liman and starring both Vince Vaughn and John Favreau as the leads. An indie classic from the late 90's where we see a guy in rock bottom crawling out and becoming money before our very eyes. We witness brotherhood, romance, and comedy. What more could we ask for in a film. Brendan is joined by Allison and Eric to break down this 2003 Christmas classic from John Favreau and Will Ferrell on its 20th anniversary. This comedy has all the hallmarks of those Rankin/Bass stop-motion movies with the comedy flavor of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. The first time I saw it, I knew it would be a classic that we'd watch every year.

John Favreau, Michael Young, Trey Parker and more are all candidates in the Today Game for October 19, 2023
It's not often that one film functions as the audition real for a cast of actors to eventually go on to bigger and better roles, but that's exactly what this week's movie does. Daredevil, otherwise known as Ben Affleck's audition for Batman, otherwise known as John Favreau's audition for Happy Hogan, otherwise known as Colin Farrell's audition for Fright Night, is one of those films that lives in the moment so completely it is difficult to remember why anyone thought it was a good idea in the first place. A mess of pacing issues, dialogue flubs, contextless sex and violence, and awash with actors committing to their roles despite the film's issues, Daredevil opens an interesting discussion between Josh and Ryan. Josh watched the more vaunted Director's Cut, and Ryan watched the original theatrical release. Tune in this week as they discuss the differences and why one version represents a far more complete vision than the other. Daredevil may be the man without fear, but you're also going to need a healthy dose of bravery if you intend on sitting through this faltering, early 2000s superhero movie! Daredevil was released in 2003 and stars Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Michael Clark Duncan and Colin Farrell. The CineMEH Podcast is a Slyjack Media, LLC production Like what you hear? The shortest-titled movie of 1999 (and among the shortest ever), Go was Doug Liman's follow-up to his 1996 debut, a collaboration with writer John Favreau, Swingers. There is some shared DNA between the two movies - both explore a very specific subculture in LA at a very specific time in the 90s, both drip with cool, and both borrow heavily from other films while creating something all their own. But they're also very different. And Go was often labeled by critics - who overwhelmingly praised the movie - as "Tarantinoesque". Of all the movies we've covered, this one is perhaps the most of its time (by design) and, weirdly, among the least aged, as Go's emphasis on clever dialogue, fast-paced storytelling, and characters that feel like real people make it a movie that is every bit as enjoyable, frantic, surprising, and oddly sweet as it was 24 years ago. John and Joey invited two giant Go fans to discuss all of this - friend of the network Jess Collins, and the co-host of the podcast You Are Good, Alex Steed. The Art of Charm is brought to you by BetterHelp. Visit betterhelp.com/charm today to get 10% off your first month. In today's episode, we cover the importance of improvising with Kelly Leonard. Kelly's career in the theater industry began by accident. He was hired as a dishwasher at Second City in Chicago, where he met John Favreau. He realized improv was not magic, but a skill that could be practiced and applied in business, parenting, and relationships. Kelly established himself as an executive producer for Second City, coordinating performances for generations of comics, actors, and writers. Kelly has written a book, "Yes, And," outlining how he believes the core principles behind improvisation can be applied to spark and drive collaboration. In this episode of The Art of Charm, we explore the world of improvisation and its many benefits in communication, comedy, and creativity. From empathy and collaboration to resilience through failure, our guest speaker shares his experiences using improv to navigate ambiguity and uncertainty. We discuss the importance of listening, reframing, and storytelling, as well as the concept of post traumatic growth. What to Listen For Introduction – 0:00 How did Kelly Leonard get started in improv? Why is improv important for innovation? The Core Principles of Improv – 10:58 What are the core principles of improv and why do they apply to many areas of life? How do you lead a healthy conversation with someone you disagree with? The Magic of Mistakes – 24:02 How do we leverage mistakes to create success or make progress toward your goals? What simple exercise can you use to reframe negative events in your life to be positive? Creating Comedy – 42:30 How do you formally create comedy? How do you give status to people you're talking to? What simple tool can you start using today to make conversations easier, engaging, and more fun for anyone involved? Many of us are familiar with improv comedy but did you know the principles of improv can be used in business, parenting, and relationships? Every time you have a conversation with someone, you are improvising because you can't predict what the other person will say and so you must improvise every time the other person responds to something you say. The best conversations are fluid and dynamic, making both people feel comfortable and natural. But to be good at improvising, you must practice it just like you would any other skill. On today's episode, I celebrate Christmas movies with three new guests! Megan, Emily, and Destiny help me review three classic Christmas movies. Elf, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and Home Alone. Along with reviewing these three movies, I also share some random facts you might not have known about the movies. Elf (2003) Directed by John Favreau. Raised as an oversized elf, Buddy travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his biological father, Walter Hobbs, who doesn't know he exists and is in desperate need of some Christmas Spirit. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) Directed by Jeremiah Chechik. The Griswold family's plans for a big family Christmas predictably turn into a big disaster. Home Alone (1990) Directed by Chris Columbus. An eight-year-old troublemaker must protect his house from a pair of burglars when he is accidentally left home alone by his family during Christmas vacation. https://msha.ke/thisseatstaken

The 2009 film I Love You, Man is the topic of today's show. The Paul Rudd and Jason Segel pairing sets up tension through the whole film. Rudd's character Peter is looking for a friend to be his best man, enter Sydney played by Segel. At first Rudd's fiancé Zooey, portrayed by Rashida Jones is happy that he is making a friend but things start to be suspicious. Peter Klaven: “Slapping the bass! Slappa da bass! Slappa da bass mon! Slappa de bass mon!” Some of our favorite parts of this movie are: The dog named Anwar Sadat Paul Rudd acting like a dork John Favreau acting like a jerk Jason Segel acting suspicious Show don't tell of Rudd only interacting with women at work Koo Koo a Roo is only a LA based restaurant Billboard prices are off Special thanks to our editor Geoff Vrijmoet for this episode and Melissa Villagrana for helping out with our social media posts. This week in the Fortress of Poditude: We've finally reached the official end of the MCU Infinity Saga. It's Spider-Man: Far From Home! Much like magnets, we have to ask: Holograms. How do they work? The drama and life lessons depicted in fiction on film of working in restaurants can look very realistic at times as in the John Favreau film "Chef" or it can be romatisized like it is in the Disney film "Ratatouille". Capturing the raw drama of restaurants happens artfully in the award winning documentary "Jiro Dreams of Sushi". However there are three films that have some very authentic looking scenes ranging from the expansive haute cuisine 3 star kitchens to the tight, every bit of space used in a casual bistro fighting for recognition. There are two themes that seem to exist more in restaurants than any other industry. The burn out of the Chef working in a high stakes environment and the conflict of traditional cooking and modern cooking. Both are discussed in this episode. When we sat down and started to review the Book of Boba Fett, one episode at a time, we thought that we were in for a treat. In spite of the fact that the season started off slow, Cody and Zach believed that the show was in good hands with John Favreau at the helm. However, the guys came to the conclusion that the show did not live up to the expectations that they had for it. That doesn't mean that the show was an absolute travesty, but rather that it just wasn't what they were looking for, nor what many Star Wars fans were looking for. In this episode of Parallel Quest, Cody and Zach give their final thoughts on the Book of Boba Fett, hoping that after the release of this show, we will experience something better with Obi-Wan Kenobi now that it is released.Buy Zach's newest book, Something Strange at Grandma's House: https://www.steellakestudio.com/booksSign up for our E-MAIL LIST: https://www.steellakestudio.com/emailThank you so much for checking out Parallel Quest. Fold in the Cheese: Your Recipe for Fantasy Football Success
It's football movie time, and we are starting with The Replacements, a truly underrated football flick. Who doesn't love Keanu Reeves as the replacement quarterback, and John Favreau as a maniac linebacker?! Bateman was definitely yelling "I got the ball!!" after all those fumbles in the Bucs/Rams game and Gruff was the hero in three of the match ups as kickers won 3 games on walk-off field goals. There was a lot to dissect in the divisional round and don't know if championship weekend will be able to replace the excitement (see what we did there...) Kemp was still hot after the Titans exit so it took him a little bit to cool down. But Kemp will take solace because, don't forget, since Ethan lost a close tie breaker for the Do It season long bets, he still needs a punishment. Will he be channeling the Sentinels football team in jail and doing some Tik Tok dances? Will Fumiko provide all the waffles and pancakes for the 24 hr challenge? We want to hear it! Brunão e Baconzitos comentam o segundo episódio do The Book of Boba Fett. Estrelando Temuera Morrison, Ming-Na Wen, Matt Berry, David Pasquesi, Jennifer Beals, Wesley Kimmel e Joanna Bennett.
After nearly 40 years since the introduction of one the coolest Star Wars characters ever, Boba Fett returns with his own series! Run by John Favreau, who knocked it out of the park with The Mandalorian, and Robert Rodriguez, director of stylishly cool movies like El Mariachi, From Dusk till Dawn, and Sin City, we thought this first episode was pretty fantastic.
