A U.S. celebration tour is set to begin October 26 in Woodstock, GA continuing through December 2nd in Memphis, TN. More dates are expected to be announced soon, see below for the initial itinerary and full details. In addition, their 1993 self-titled debut album, a timeless classic, will be reissued on October 20, 2023, and offered on vinyl for the first time igniting a wave of nostalgia and excitement among fans. Adding to the anticipation of this re-release, the band went back into the studio with longtime collaborator and multi-platinum producer Marti Frederiksen and recorded two brand new songs. “Blinded By the Sun” and “Are You In There Anymore,” are set to be released as a special 7” vinyl simultaneously. As founding member Damon Johnson explains of reuniting, “It was our manager, Kevin, who suggested we do this now after hearing from fans at my other shows who kept asking ‘when is Brother Cane coming back?' After Glenn and I had loosely talked over the years of playing music together again, we all felt the time was right for us now.” Co-founding member, Glenn Maxey echoes the same sentiment, “Seldom does a person get the chance to relive a dream that they pursued in their twenties. It's hard to put into words. I'm just extremely grateful for the chance to play great music with great friends at this time in my life. Let's go!” As they hit the stage once again, fans can anticipate the live renditions of the band's chart-topping favorites (“Got No Shame”, “And Fools Shine On”, “I Lie In The Bed I Make” and more), each performance capturing the energy and essence of Brother Cane's signature sound while reigniting the passion that made them favorites of their generation. This highly anticipated reunion tour promises to deliver an unforgettable experience, as they take audiences on a nostalgic journey through their extensive catalog while also introducing some exciting new material. Brother Cane's resurgence serves as a testament to the enduring power of their music. At the heart of Brother Cane's long-awaited reunion are its founding members, Johnson (lead vocals, guitar) and Maxey (bass) who originally formed the band in 1991 in their hometown of Birmingham, AL. Johnson's distinctive guitar skills, vocals, and captivating stage presence, combined with Maxey's solid bass lines and rhythmic foundation, formed the core of the band's signature sound. Brother Cane found immediate success with the release of their self-titled debut album which delivered three singles: “Got No Shame”, “That Don't Satisfy Me,” and “Hard Act to Follow” with “Got No Shame” reaching #1 on the Mainstream Rock charts earning the band U.S. tours with Aerosmith, Robert Plant and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The reunion of these talented and road tested musicians brings an added sense of authenticity and excitement to the tour. The chemistry between Damon and Glenn has stood the test of time, as their musical connection effortlessly translates into electrifying live performances. With their reunion, fans can expect a renewed energy and a deep sense of camaraderie on stage, as the founding members of Brother Cane join forces once again to captivate audiences with their raw talent and unwavering passion for their craft. Joining the duo for this reunion are longtime friends and fellow bandmates Jarred Pope (drums/Tom Keifer Band), Buck Johnson (keys/Aerosmith, Hollywood Vampires), and Tony Higbee (guitar/Tom Keifer Band). "Being summer, I took off my shirt...." well I'm not taking my shirt off but I am bringing you a summertime treat I think, with an excellent audience recording of the band's performance in Denver on July 14, 1981. As I listened to this tape it just struck me that the feeling of being there that a good audience recording gives you was perfect for this time of the year, when many of us have been lucky enough to experience some live music in person.. I do hope you have! This show has some excellent energy throughout, the Minglewood has a couple very nice Jerry solos, the 'Cassidy' is nicely paced, and leads into a sweet 'To Lay Me Down'.  Weir has some fun with 'Me & My Uncle' which is blistering.. as is the outstanding 'Big Railroad Blues'  The highlight of the set is the Birdsong>Sailor>Saint, however. It is only the the 14th electric birdsong since 9/15/73, and the only time that Sailor comes out of Birdsong. It is excellent.    Grateful Dead McNichols Arena Denver, CO 7/14/1981 - Tuesday One     Cold Rain And Snow [5:40] > New Minglewood Blues [6:41] ; Friend Of The Devil [9:00] ; Cassidy [5:05] ; To Lay Me Down [8:53] > Me And My Uncle [2:55]> Mexicali Blues [4:30] ; Big Railroad Blues [3:48] ; Little Red Rooster [8:23] ; Bird Song [11:48] > Lost Sailor [6:42] > Saint Of Circumstance [7:25] > Don't Ease Me In [3:06]  You can listen to this week's Deadpod here:  http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod071522.mp3 Thanks for your kind support. One of my favorite tours, the Spring tour of 1980 will give us one more fine show on this week's Deadpod. From the old Boston Garden on May 12, 1980 the boys shook the rafters on this Monday night with a rocking first set.  They come out blazing with a great 'Jack Straw>Alabama Getaway>El Paso' opening trifecta. While this is an unusual combo, Jerry and Brent in particular shine on these opening tunes. A nice 'Althea' follows, then Bobby takes the lead on 'Lazy Lightning> Supplication'. We get a short but sweet Brent number in 'Far From Me' before Bobby takes us back down to Minglewood. The closing China>Rider is excellent, highlighted for me, by Jerry's emotion when he is on that northbound train.  Grateful Dead Boston Garden Boston, MA 5/12/1980 - Monday     One     Jack Straw [5:21] > Alabama Getaway [4:53] > El Paso [4:12] Althea [8:16] Lazy Lightnin' [3:22] > Supplication [4:44] Far From Me [3:37] New Minglewood Blues [7:08] China Cat Sunflower [5:04] > I Know You Rider [6:07]  You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod052022.mp3   Thanks for your kind support, and stay in touch!

A summer solstice show to celebrate the arrival of summer, this comes to us from the band's only trip to Alaska back on June 21, 1980. This first set opens with a strong 'Sugaree', and Jerry continues to light it up on the Minglewood that follows. In fact most of these first set songs are quite strong and fast paced, I'd particularly call your attention to the 'Lazy Lightni'>Supplication', Brent's work on 'Far From Me' and the closing 'Feel Like a Stranger' all of which really work well.  1980 was a very good year, in my opinion, and while this may not be one of the very best shows of the year, it is a pleasure to listen to and I hope you enjoy it.. We'll have the second set next week.    Grateful Dead West High Auditorium Anchorage, AK 6/21/80 - Saturday One Sugaree> New Minglewood Blues Candyman Me and My Uncle Big River Loser Lazy Lightnin'> Supplication Far From Me Ramble on Rose Feel Like a Stranger You can listen to this week's Deadpod here:  http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod062521.mp3  I hope your Summer is the best ever!  thanks for your support

This week's Deadpod features the first set from the band's performance on February 11th, 1989 in Los Angeles, CA. I love the opener, Mississipi Half-Step, and Jerry doesn't let me down here.. 'across.... the lazy river.. :) An energetic Minglewood follows, then a lovely 'Candyman'.. I love the color that Brent added here, but no one sounds like Jerry on this. Next a rockin' 'Big River', followed by the premier of 'Built To Last'.. such interesting lyrics. 'Queen Jane' is well played and followed by a short but always powerful 'We Can Run'. They start with a trifecta that really takes off and was only done on two other occasions, the Mississippi Half-Step->Franklin's Tower->Minglewood. Personally I always enjoyed when Franklin's found its way into unusual combinations, and the Minglewood here is really rockin' as well. Other highlights in this fine first set include an excellent Althea, and an extended jam in the (unsual) set closing 'Feel Like a Stranger'. We bid adieu to Summer this week with perhaps the best GD show of 1993.. this one is from Madison Square Garden, and took place 23 years ago on September 22nd, 1993. The show marked the first of two appearances of jazz saxophonist David Murray with the boys - he sits in during the first set on a wonderful 'Bird song' and throughout the 2nd set. One of my listeners recently informed me that I had never featured a show from this year on the Deadpod and asked that I do so. I can't think of a better show or time to do so than this one. I think the first set in general is quite well-played, and snappy, especially for this era. The Help->Slip->Frank is uptempo and alot of fun to listen to. Garcia is on point in the Minglewood that follows, and really energizes the song. Ramble On Rose follows, then a particularly good Masterpiece. The highlight of the first set is clearly the aforementioned 'Bird Song' with Mr. Murray. The band allows him to create an unusual solo yet weaves it into the tempo of the song allowing them to show that even at this late date, and with Vince and not Hornsby, they are capable of some great jamming.   Madison Square Garden, New York, NY (Wednesday, 9/22/93) Help on the Way -> Slipknot -> Franklin's Tower Minglewood Blues Ramble on Rose Masterpiece Birdsong You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod092316.mp3 I hope you'll consider supporting the Deadpod, as it is through the kind donations of my listeners that I am able to publish it each week. I think this is a real barnburner.. a date in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium in January of 1978. When you look at the set list and see that Minglewood is the opener you might dismiss this set, but don't.. give it a listen .. you can tell right away that Jerry is going to fire this thing up. A nice 'Dire Wolf' follows.. and then a sweet 'Looks like Rain' with nice Donna backing vocals.  This matrix tape is nice and bright for the most part and really puts you there at the show.. Big River follows and goes into El Paso for one of the rarer segues - not sure if they ever did this combo in this order before or since.. This show was widely praised in its day and I think much of the playing holds up today as an example of a good early 80s Dead show. The band opens with a Jack Straw that is on fire.. and leads nicely into a very fine Friend of the Devil. Brent has some nice runs here.. The CC Rider is fun and of course Ramble on Rose brings a smile to my face as usual. Minglewood.. meh, but the Bird Song that follows is pretty choice, as is a fine Looks Like Rain. Hard to believe but it almost LENT already! And that of course means its Mardi Gras time! This next show up on our plate is from Mardi Gras 1986 - a request from a great friend of the Deadpod - from February 11th, 1986. This is one of those great Oakland Mardi Gras runs where the Neville Brothers opened for the boys (and we'll hear them on the second set next week). This week's first set, although ragged at times, and with Jerry's voice not exactly perfect, is still marked by alot of enthusiasm and good vibes. My favorites from this first set include a raging Minglewood, and a nice set closing Bird Song->Music Never Stopped->Might As Well.. next week in honor of Fat Tuesday a great Iko :)   Grateful Dead - February 11, 1986Henry J.
