In this episode of Canadian Investing in the US, Glen Sutherland welcomes back immigration attorney Mena Maimone of Maimone Legal to clarify recent misinformation circulating online about a so-called "$250 visa fee" for Canadians entering the United States. Mena explains that this is actually the Visa Integrity Fee, which applies only to new U.S. visa applications—such as E2 investor visas or student visas—and has recently increased from $250 to $500. It does not affect Canadians traveling as visitors for shopping, vacations, or short business trips, nor does it impact those who already hold valid visas until they renew. The discussion highlights how social media has distorted the facts, leading many to believe the fee applies at the border to all travelers. The conversation also addresses rumors that Canadians are being detained or deported in large numbers when entering the U.S. Mena confirms these claims are unfounded, noting that any detentions are typically tied to legitimate issues such as criminal history or security concerns. She suggests that fear-driven narratives may be partly motivated by concern over the increasing number of Canadians—especially high-income earners and investors—moving south for business and lifestyle opportunities. Both Glen and Mena encourage listeners to seek accurate, professional advice rather than rely on online hearsay, assuring that cross-border travel and investment remain accessible and safe for most Canadians.

Getting diagnosed with breast cancer is one of the most life-changing experiences a person can face—but there's power in how you choose to walk through it. Today, I'm sitting down again with my dear friend Dr. Filomena Trindade, an incredible physician and a pioneer in Integrative and Functional Medicine, who faced her own battle with Stage 4 breast cancer and chose an incredible path blending traditional and holistic treatments. From vitamin C and artemisinin, she shares her journey of healing and how she created a body environment that was less welcoming to cancer. It's a beautiful conversation about trusting your gut, honoring your body's needs, and exploring every option with an open mind. Dr. Filomena's journey reveals the importance of listening to your intuition and building a strong support network to uplift you every step of the way. She's faced conventional treatments too, balancing them with holistic practices that kept her grounded and connected to her health goals. Her story is a powerful reminder that healing is deeply personal and that there's no one “right” way to find wellness. If you or a loved one are navigating health challenges, this episode will leave you feeling empowered and ready to think differently about what's possible. Also, for any woman who's over aged 50 and struggling with hormonal hair loss like I did, I created a formula called Beauty Locks that is designed to promote hair growth and hair quality.

Wandering Works for Us PodcastDate: 22 Jan 2024Title: 3 Day Trips: Nazaré, Tile Museum, and ConimbrigaSummary of EpisodeIn this episode, we take a few day trips. First we went tothe lovely Nazaré to see the big waves and the beautiful beaches. We took Sheila on the first trip and visited our American friends Filomena and Rick the second trip.If you like visiting ancient ruins (Roman one's anyway) The Ruins of Conimbriga would be a lovely day trip from Coimbra. It took us about an hour to get there but it is just outside of the the city. The ruins boast amazing baths, a forum, many incredible mosaics, and the House of fountains is a marvel on its own.Last, we check out the Museu do Azulejo (tile museum) in Lisbon. The tiles are a work of art and are seen all over Portugal as decorations and storytelling. The best is the large mosaic of the city of Lisbon before the earthquake of 1755.All of these trips were at the request of guests we had over the holidays, but they are also great tourist spots. Conimbriga is a different sort of taste for tourism because Roman ruins sometimes look the same.**a few corrections–obviously, Shelley (me) does not know how to convert celsius to fahrenheit and 17 is about mid 60's. The tile we spoke about is NOT 115 inches, but 115 cm high. Conversions are not our thing. Key Topics[1:55] Nazaré–both Praia do Norte and Praia de Nazaré[14:20] Conimbriga Ruins[24:10] Tile MuseumNext podcast episode will be about Sintra –Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira!!Important Links To follow all of our antics and adventures, please visit our social media pages and our website at wwforus.com!
