On this episode of “Going Ringside” we're joined by arguably the greatest pro wrestling color commentator in history: Jerry “The King” Lawler. Alongside Jim Ross (who appeared on the first episode of Going Ringside) the two comprised an iconic duo through WWE's “Attitude Era” when pro wrestling was hotter than it ever had been. But that was all after a lengthy pro wrestling career where Lawler dominated the Memphis territory. Lawler, of course, got the country's attention on Late Night with David Letterman. In 1982 when legendary comedian Andy Kaufman decided to try his hand in pro wrestling, he feuded with Lawler. That feud ended with the infamous slap where Lawler slapped Kaufman, who was wearing a neck brace, on Letterman's show.
On today's SAS CLASSIC, Jerry "The King" Lawler joins Steve on the podcast to talk about his legendary career in professional wrestling. From his matches in and out of the ring, to his feud with Andy Kaufman, The King shares all in this epic two-parter.

This week we're taking the Lex Express time machine back to the July 26 1993 episode of Superstars and the July 28 1993 episode of Monday Night Raw. We see Hacksaw Jim Duggan's last appearance on Superstars, we have some Jack Tunney telegrams, there's a Lex Express check in, Money Inc vs. Steiners yet again, Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Bret Hart with some some elder bullying on the side, Doink, Macho Boy and more.
One wrestler who entered WWF in 1994 was a man named Mike Droese. In WWF, he was called Duke “The Dumpster” Droese. His wrestling gimmick was that of a garbage man. He would carry a trash can to the ring each week and feud with aristocratic characters like Jerry “The King” Lawler and Hunter Hearst Helmsley (Triple H). They were natural rivalries, the working trash man versus the upper-crust snobs. Droese shines a light about the unofficial group backstage known to fans as “The Kliq."
Deep into the New Generation, WWF decided to rage war on WCW and rename Monday Night Raw to RAW IS WAR! This is the very first episode, before we get to the Attitude Era later in the year. They have a new presentation, including new graphics and a brand new stage. WrestleMania 13 is a couple weeks away and Sid Vicious is WWF Champion. Before he defends his World Wrestling Federation Championship against The Undertaker, they team up to take on Vader and Mankind in the main event. Also, Paul Heyman and ECW are here for “The Great Debate” with Jerry “The King” Lawler. Stone Cold and Bret Hart prepare for their I Quit match at WrestleMania as Jim Ross interviews the special guest referee Ken Shamrock. We're headed back into the WHW Patreon archives to bring you two exciting watch alongs with Tony and Conrad! The first September 2019 Bonus Podcast comes from longtime LKBH Kevin Nall of Alvin, Texas, or as we all call him: "Big Kev." Kevin wanted to go back to 1988 at Verne Gagne's Super Clash 3. According to Kevin: "...a lot of controversy in it, how the match ended and every thing with that. An all around good match, shows the psychology of Lawler as well..." Was this the downfall of the AWA? Could have been, but one thing was for sure, this was one of the bloodiest matches on record. Jerry "The King" Lawler vs Kerry Von Erich in a title unification match between the AWA and WCCW. Reports said Von Erich was completely screwed during the match, but you need to decide for yourself. One thing is for sure, it once again proved that Lawler was the consummate pro and could have a match with anyone. The second September 2019 Bonus Podcast comes to us from LKBH Sean Jones of Peoria, Arizona who comes up with a gem. According to Sean: "...to me this is my all time favorite match. Shawn Michaels was my favorite and when you put him with a guy like the Undertaker, it's like putting peanut butter and chocolate together..." Many would say this is the single best match of all time. What say you? Shawn Michael against the Undertaker and the Dead Man was attempting to go 17-and-0 at WrestleMania. On this edition of Parallax Views, we dive into the wild world of pro wrestling, the parallels it has with politics, and even a diversion into Freemasonry with former pro wrestling manager turned political podcast extraordinaire Kenny "Starmaker" Bolin. Kenny Bolin worked as a heel (bad guy) manager in Ohio Valley Wrestling, the one-time developmental promotion for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) that produced such stars as John Cena, Dave Bautista, Rico Constantino, and Rene Dupree among others. In fact, Bolin was OVW top heel that irked the fans into buying tickets because they hoped to see him get his comeuppance after insulting the audience. Kenny's lived a fascinating life growing up on pro wrestling, becoming a talent in OVW, and making friends like billionaire investor Mark Cuban and former Trump appointed White House Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci along the way. We begin the conversation by diving into the world of pro wrestling, how tickets are sold, the Memphis territory ran by the late Jerry Jarrett, the infamous feud that took place between comedian Andy Kaufman and wrestling legend Jerry "The King" Lawler in the squared circle, and much, much more. From there we delve into the world of politics, what politics has learned from pro wrestling, and Kenny explains his immense dislike of Donald Trump. Near the end we delve into Kenny background, his experience with Freemasons and racist family members (including a biological father that was a key member of the KKK), thoughts on evangelical Christianity and televangelists, and much, much more!
