As the scent of freshly brewed coffee wafts through Havana House in Boardman, Ohio, we sit down with Nate, the remarkable teacher who traded chalkboards for vineyards. He weaves the tale of his transformation from an introverted high schooler to a spirited winemaker and owner of the enchanting Woodland Estate—a destination where "I dos" are exchanged against a backdrop of historic splendor. Nate's journey, marked by a leap from educating young minds to mastering the art of fermentation, showcases the power of tapping into one's latent potential and the serendipity that can turn a simple hobby into a thriving enterprise.Sipping on the ancient sweetness of mead, we traverse time with Nate to explore Woodland Sellers' rise from casual teacher banter to a mead-making haven. The golden nectar, steeped in cultural richness and revived through passion, faced its share of trials amidst a global pandemic. Yet, with resilience and a dash of science, Nate's story is a testament to how enduring dedication can ferment into success. The narrative doesn't end with the last drop of mead; it extends to the very soil of Woodland Estate, where a once-abandoned property has been lovingly transformed into a sought-after venue, brimming with potential and eager to host dream weddings and memorable events. Our episode wraps with a venture into the future dreams of Woodland Estate, a place where history dances with the modern love story. As Nate shares the vision of a carriage house turned cozy retreat for newlyweds and the estate's readiness for future affairs, we also indulge in lighter musings—from wine preferences to Greg's quirky avocado socks. It's an episode that seamlessly blends inspiration with a sprinkle of laughter, ensuring that whether you're a romantic at heart or a connoisseur of life's finer things, there's a seat at the table for you in this captivating conversation.

Governor Candidate Says He Will Never Allow School Choice in Virginia Play Audio Terry McAuliffe has four kids going to 30K per student tuition private school and opposes the use of vouchers to send poorer kids to private schools.  But it's actually not just that. He opposes allowing parents to keep their own money to pay for the education that they believe is best for their own kids. He supports taking money from hard working families whether or not they want to pay for government schools.  Why would anyone want to get their kids out of government schools?  Loudoun County School Board Meeting Erupt in Chaos Back in June https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10083783/Loudoun-County-father-arrested-school-meeting-says-daughter-raped-boy-girls-bathroom.html#v-4656337064846966859 Play Audio: 0:21-0:31 That's the video/audio of the school board meeting back in June where Scot Smith was arrested for exploding at the school board.  What was the board discussing that day? Transgender policies.  What was the frustrated 48-year old father trying to say? He was trying to tell the room that his daughter had been raped by a boy at school in the girls' bathroom. In an interview with The Daily Wire that was published on Monday, he explained that he was trying to stick up for his daughter, who was attacked at Stone Bridge High School in a girl's restroom on May 28 by a boy 'wearing a skirt.'  Smith says the boy took advantage of the school's trans policies to get into the girls' bathrooms and assault her.  On the day of the incident, Smith says the school told him to come to the campus because his daughter had been physically assaulted. They did not say she had been sexually assaulted. Once he got there, he says school staff told him they would handle it internally, choosing not to call the police for an as-yet unexplained reason.  He was enraged by the decision and challenged them on it. The school board then did call the police but to report Smith, not the boy, for making a scene.  The school's principal sent out an alert that day warning parents of what had happened involving Smith, but it said nothing of the sexual assault allegations in the bathroom.   Smith and his daughter ultimately ended up at the hospital where a rape kit was performed that verified his daughter's claim. They took it to the police and a case was then opened. Meanwhile, it would be two months before the boy was arrested, a month after the crazy school board meeting.  So the boy in a skirt who had assaulted his daughter in a ladies' room was still at large, when at the meeting on June 22 the board took up discussion of their trans policy. During the meeting, Loudoun County School Superintendent Scott Ziegler said the school had never had any form of incident inside a bathroom or locker room involving a transgender child.  'To my knowledge, we don't have any record of assaults occurring in our restrooms,' he said. He went on to quote Time magazine research that he said disproved the notion transgender kids might sexually attack cisgender kids, and said: 'I think it's important to keep our perspective on this, we've heard it several times tonight from our public speakers but the predator transgender student or person simply does not exist.'  And it was this claim that caused Smith to became irate. He started arguing with another woman at the meeting, and called her names after she allegedly denied his daughter's claim. He was then charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.  The boy was finally arrested a month after that, but here's the crazy part: earlier this month in October, the same boy was arrested again on different charges for allegedly assaulting a different girl, at a different school. He is now in a juvenile detention center. The Smiths were understably stunned when the same boy was arrested again on October 6, at a different school in the same district. On this occasion, he was charged with 'with sexual battery and abduction', allegedly holding a different girl in a classroom to attack her in Broad Run High School - 2.5miles from the high school where Smith's daughter was assaulted. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office did confirm the October 6 incident, saying in a press release on October 7: 'A teenager from Ashburn has been charged with sexual battery and abduction of a fellow student at Broad Run High School. All of this comes on the heels of the Biden Justice Department announcement last week that the FBI would now investigate and prosecute any parent who it deems to be 'threatening' towards school staff.  The order from Attorney General Merrick Garland was in response to a request from the National School Board Association to President Biden, asking him to protect them from angry parents.  All of this reminds me of the day that James Coates was arrested in Alberta, Canada for holding church services against COVID regulations. On the very same day, a sexual predator was released into the community from the same jail where Coates was admitted. Not only was the sexual predator released but law enforcement officials released the criminal with a community warning advising that he was considered likely to recommit crimes.  This is what happens when you abandon God's word. When you have no anchor, no foundation, everything is tossed by the wind and waves. You have the storm of liberals, the storm of conservatives, rage, hate, shame, and chaos. And there will only be more if we do not turn back to Christ and His word. And the first thing you ought to do is get your kids out of those schools. It is worth the sacrifice. It is worth working longer hours.   Guitar AD Have you always wanted to play guitar but didn't know where to start? Learning to play the guitar can be a lonely, confusing and expensive experience. Imposing medical things while not knowing what's in the contract….. and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily Newsbrief. I'm Toby Sumpter and today is Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Happy Election Day -- make sure you get out and vote. And many apologies for a dead week of daily news briefs -- we were out of town recording other things that we will be sharing with you soon! Ibram X. Kendi was in the news over the weekend after tweeting a link to an article and then deleting it. The article was from The Hill describing how college applicants often lie about their race, pretending to be non-white in order to gain entrance into colleges.  The now-deleted tweet said: “More than a third of White students lied about their race on college applications, and about half of these applicants lied about being Native American. More than three-fourths of these students who lied about their race were accepted.” Why the backlash? Well, opponents of Kendi's anti-racism philosophy pointed out that the tweet and article didn't really support the narrative that American is a hotbed of systemic racism, if, well, everyone is clambering to identify as the supposedly subjugated races. Kendi is often cited as a leading proponent of Critical Race Theory.  Who is this Ibram X. Kendi? Dr. Kendi is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities and the Founding Director of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research. He is the host Be Antiracist with Ibram X. Kendi, a new podcast. In 2020, Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He's the author of the book “How to be Antir-Racist.” His next book, How To Raise An Antiracist, will be published on June 14, 2022 and is available now for pre-order. But what's really interesting is that Dr. Kendi apparently recently said he was quite horrified about his daughter coming home saying she wants to be a boy: Dr. Ibram X. Kendi Says His Daughter Wanting to be a Boy is “Horrifying” Now of course Dr. Kendi is right: this is horrifying. And Kendi is at least somewhat consistent in seeming to be against people pretending to be what they are not. But what he doesn't seem to understand is why what he is doing is actually encouraging people to desire to become what they are not. He's feeding discontent when he propigates the notion that everything is a power struggle between races. “What affirmative messages can we be teaching her about being a girl that can protect her from the messages she is hearing in our home or even outside our home?” I'm glad he's asking the question, and I hope he considers Critical Race Theory is part of the problem. Of course he's exactly right. His daughter needs to be taught that being created in the image of God as female is glorious. But the question is: can Kendi say the same thing about a young white boy who has started to suspect that he won't be able to get into college because of the color of his skin?  Werkz:  It is said that “Carrying a gun is not supposed to be comfortable, it's supposed to be comforting.” Shan and his team at Werkz believe a holster should be pleasant, concealable, and accessible. Elections Today! Happy Election day -- have you voted yet? I know this is an off year for national elections, but there are many state and local elections that are very important. We do not put our trust in princes, and we certainly do not put our trust in ballots or ballot boxes. But to the extent that we can have a say in the public square, I would encourage you to get out, get educated, and vote. Off years can be especially important since many people do not realize there are even elections happening. Numbers tend to be a lot smaller, and therefore your vote matters that much more. Announcing candidacy with… a shofar?… and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, January 11, 2022.  Sen. Doug Mastriano Announced He's Running for Pennsylvania Governor And he made that announcement by blowing a shofar – a ram's horn: 0:00-0:25  But he wasn't done yet: 0:25-0:58 You know, there are two things that occur to me upon viewing this video: the first one is cringe city. There is nothing remotely biblical, spiritual, or edifying about this sort of thing. And it's a bunch of cringe. This is why liberals think we're nuts. Cause, well, we are.  But the second thing that occurs to me is that this is my crazy uncle. He's no doubt a Christian, and he stands for many things that I stand for. I appreciate the fact that he doesn't care what it looks like. I appreciate the fact that he is willing to look like a fool for Christ. I would take this guy every day of the week over the sexy-cool pastors at the Gospel Coalition every day of the week.  You know like the very well-meaning Paul Carter at Gospel Coalition Canada: In a recent article Pastor Carter helpfully outlines the recent Anti-Conversion Bill that passed the Canadian parliament, and then did a pastoral faceplant as he tried to argue for a coy-mellow response rather than the one that takes backbone and courage.  “This enactment amends the Criminal Code to, among other things, create the following offences: (a) causing another person to undergo conversion therapy; (b) doing anything for the purpose of removing a child from Canada with the intention that the child undergo conversion therapy outside Canada; (c) promoting or advertising conversion therapy; and (d) receiving a financial or other material benefit from the provision of conversion therapy. It also amends the Criminal Code to authorize courts to order that advertisements for conversion therapy be disposed of or deleted. The definition of ‘conversion therapy' set out in Bill C-4 reads as follows: 320.‍101 In sections 320.‍102 to 320.‍104, conversion therapy means a practice, treatment or service designed to (a) change a person's sexual orientation to heterosexual; (b) change a person's gender identity to cisgender; (c) change a person's gender expression so that it conforms to the sex assigned to the person at birth; (d) repress or reduce non-heterosexual attraction or sexual behaviour; (e) repress a person's non-cisgender gender identity; or (f) repress or reduce a person's gender expression that does not conform to the sex assigned to the person at birth. For greater certainty, this definition does not include a practice, treatment or service that relates to the exploration or development of an integrated personal identity — such as a practice, treatment or service that relates to a person's gender transition — and that is not based on an assumption that a particular sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression is to be preferred over another.” Having explained all of that, Pastor Carter says he favors the response of some of his friends who will be reading a bland statement of concern this last Sunday expression mild concerns that this bill could possible, in the 9th dimension, if you're standing on your head and squinting yours, could possibly be taken as being against Biblical sexuality, even though all the politicians have promised it isn't (and crossed the heart, hope to die).  But Pastor Carter is a bit concerned about Pastor John MacArthur and other Canadian pastors who are planning to preach sermons this Sunday illegally. He's concerned that conceding the point that to preach what the Bible says about sexuality in defiance of Bill C-4 – he's concerned that that is conceding too much. We should wait and see what the courts say. But while we may certainly make room for various tactical measures depending on different scenarios on the ground, the milktoast approach while playing coy about the bill is how Canadians got into this mess in the first place.  For this reason, I will be joining Pastor MacArthur and many faithful Canadian pastors this Sunday preaching a message on Biblical Sexuality, specifically calling out the Canadian government for passing this legislation, and proclaiming conversion to Christ for all sexual sins, including homosexuality and transgenderism.  NSA Beastmode Homemaker Scholarship In the interest of promoting a hard-hitting, thoroughly biblical education for life, CrossPolitic Studios is very excited to present: The Fight Laugh Feast “Beastmode Homemaker” Scholarship for qualified first year female students who have been accepted to New St. Andrews College for Fall 2022. The CrossPolitic wives (Annie, Sharron, and Jenny) will review all applications and if there is a worthy applicant, we will schedule an interview with up to the top three candidates, and the CrossPolitic Guys will announce the winner of the scholarship on a CrossPolitic Show with great fanfare sometime by April 1st of the year prior to the student's entrance to the college.  4. The scholarship is for full-time, matriculating first year females (as defined by God and old-fashioned biology) at New St. Andrews College (because they know biology better than the Supreme Court) and automatically renews for up to four years. The scholarship is contingent on remaining such a student in good standing (academically, morally), and living like a faithful Christian in our community. The scholarship may be revoked at any time by the CrossPolitic gods, should a young woman prove to be unworthy of this honor.  Pediatric Hospitalizations Not for Covid only WITH COVID We're still having reporting problems: The CDC is reporting increasing pediatric COVID hospitalizations, and quick google search finds stories all over the place citing similar statistics. Dr. Jeanne Noble from the UCSF emergency department says it's critical to break these numbers down. She tweeted over the weekend: “Between our 2 pediatric hospitals in SF and Oakland, 30% of COVID+ hospitalizations are for COVID illness, and 70% are incidental. 6 kids hospitalized b/c of COVID today at UCSF.” We've seen this since the beginning of the so-called pandemic: little to no care to distinguish between those who merely have a positive test with no/few related symptoms and those actually suffering with the disease directly. The same failure has plagued (pun intended) reporting of mortality and deaths. Granted, sometimes it's a wisdom call, but there have been many deaths that would have occurred anyway but have been coded COVID deaths because the cancer patient or heart disease patient happened to get a positive test. My grandmother ended up in the hospital this last Fall when she broke her arm and she had a positive covid test with no symptoms. She's home now recovering just fine, but I wouldn't doubt that she was considered a COVID patient in the hospital even though her time there had nothing to do with COVID.  Good news coming out of Iowa this last weekend: Iowa Labor Commissioner Says the State Will Not Enforce Biden's Vax Order https://www.kcci.com/article/iowas-labor-commissioner-says-the-state-will-not-enforce-the-biden-administrations-vaccine-mandate/38701039?utm_campaign=snd-autopilot&fbclid=IwAR2rSrjf97pDlh_17ihdGwAc_qxs96p9aGkFaoyWjfOQEZbcZ-ozpoN32rw From local news KCCI: Iowa's labor commissioner says the state will not enforce the Biden administration's vaccine mandate for businesses with 100 employees or more. This decision comes as the U.S. Supreme Court hears oral arguments regarding the mandate. Commissioner Rod Roberts said in a statement "after reviewing the mandate — Iowa will not adopt the federal standard. Roberts' full statement says: “Iowa doesn't have a standard requiring the Covid-19 vaccine or testing. But after closely reviewing the federal OSHA Vaccine Mandate, Iowa has determined it will not adopt the federal standard. Iowa has concluded that it is not necessary because Iowa's existing standards are at least as effective as the federal standard change.” Gov. Kim Reynolds praised the commissioner's decision. OK, states, follow Iowa. Acknowledge the mandate and decline to enforce it.  Psalm of the Day: 133 0:00-0:49  Amen. Evangelical worship in the House of Representatives … and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Friday, January 7, 2022.  Yesterday, Nancy Pelosi led the House of Representatives in a worship service: 6:19-6:33,  There was a prayer to some unnamed deity: 8:23-8:29 A homily: 9:14-9:33 Concluding with a moment of silence: 13:49-13:55 And at some point there was a praise song: 3:08-3:45 So pretty much it was exactly like most evangelical worship services in this country. You are the light of the world, and what the church does, the world follows suit.  We've been worshiping idols, and so our nation worships idols. We say Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, and we don't know who the Hell we're talking about. And so, neither do our leaders.  We sing stupid songs to our idols in our church services, and so Nancy Pelosi leads the House Democrats in singing stupid songs to their idols.  Supreme Court to Hear Case for Federal VAX Mandate https://www.wsj.com/articles/supreme-court-to-weigh-vaccine-requirements-for-the-workplace-11641481822?mod=hp_lead_pos5 From the WSJ: The Supreme Court will hold a special session today to consider whether the Biden administration can enforce vaccine-and-testing rules for large private employers and a vaccine mandate for most healthcare workers. The issues come to the court on an emergency basis during a record increase in U.S. Covid-19 infections. In a departure from its usual procedures, the court is hearing arguments on cases that haven't been fully aired in lower courts. Technically, the justices—all of whom, according to a court spokeswoman, are fully vaccinated and have received booster shots—don't have to issue a definitive decision on whether the administration's vaccine rules are lawful. Instead, they are considering whether President Biden's team can implement them now while more detailed litigation continues. The cases, however, will require the justices to assess whether the White House has credible claims that it stayed within legal boundaries as it has sought to use longstanding laws to implement aggressive rules in the name of public health. The answer is likely to decide the fate of the administration's current approach to a virus that has killed more than 800,000 Americans and infected more than 50 million. Moreover, the court's decisions could reset the public-health playbook for years to come. The Supreme Court's conservative majority is skeptical of broad claims of federal power and has been considering arguments for reining it in, said Michael Greenberger, a law professor and director of the Center for Health and Homeland Security at the University of Maryland. But with the vaccine cases, the justices “are walking into the jaws of the pandemic,” he said. “And there may be enough justices who would worry that pulling back [the mandates] in the middle of the pandemic is a dangerous thing to do.” Mr. Biden in September introduced several interrelated mandates on vaccination against Covid-19. The private-employer and healthcare rules, both formally issued in November, are coming before the justices while other requirements, including vaccination mandates for federal workers and contractors who do business with the federal government, remain in lower courts. The regulations for large employers, issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, require businesses with 100 or more employees to ensure that their workers are vaccinated or tested each week for Covid-19. The policy covers some 84 million workers. The administration intended the rules to go into effect in early January, but because of legal uncertainties, OSHA recently said it would give employers until Feb. 9 before fully enforcing them. One federal appeals court blocked the rules nationwide in November, but another court reinstated the requirements last month. The vaccination mandate for healthcare workers comes from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which said facilities that accept money from those programs must comply. The mandate covers more than 10 million healthcare workers. Lower courts have blocked that mandate in half of the states, but the agency is preparing to begin implementing it this month in states where it is allowed to do so. A Little History Lesson Long ago, the Supreme Court upheld the power of state governments to mandate vaccinations. In the 1905 case, Jacobson v. Massachusetts, the justices upheld the state's authority to require that individuals vaccinate against smallpox. “The liberty secured by the Constitution…does not import an absolute right in each person to be, at all times and in all circumstances, wholly freed from restraint,” Justice John Marshall Harlan wrote for the court. In 1922, the court upheld the city of San Antonio's power to require proof of vaccination to enroll in public school. During the coronavirus pandemic, the justices already have turned down several challenges to orders from state officials requiring that healthcare workers and returning college students obtain vaccines. The current legal challenges to the Biden administration's vaccine rules covering employers and healthcare facilities are based less on their substance than their source: the executive branch of the federal government. The challengers argue that Congress never granted the power for such mandates to the secretaries of labor and of health and human services. For support, they look to the Supreme Court's decisions last year that terminated a moratorium on evictions ordered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on the grounds that the ban exceeded the agency's authority. The Supreme Court is considering emergency requests by 26 business groups and 27 states to block the vaccine-and-testing rules for private employers. The business litigants, including trade associations representing retailers, wholesalers and transportation and energy companies, said Covid-19 vaccines “are undeniable marvels of modern medicine” that companies have promoted to their workforces. “But the reality is that tens of millions of Americans remain unpersuaded,” they said in court papers. Companies, they said, will either have to absorb testing costs and pass them along to consumers, or make unvaccinated workers responsible, “who will quit en masse rather than suffer additional testing costs each week.” A Kaiser Family Foundation survey in November found that 49% of employees in relevant workplaces in November opposed the federal vaccine-or-testing mandate and 49% supported it. A far higher proportion of Democrats and vaccinated employees backed the measure. The business groups and the states, nearly all led by Republican attorneys general, argue that Congress never clearly gave OSHA the power to conscript businesses into implementing a vaccine-and-testing mandate. They also say the agency unlawfully adopted the mandate without first formally seeking input from the public. The states separately argue that if OSHA's mandate is permissible under federal workplace-safety law, then the regulations raise constitutional problems, because public health-and-safety initiatives are powers reserved for the states, not the federal government. In response, the Justice Department, representing the administration, said OSHA has a clear grant of authority from Congress to ensure that all workers have safe and healthy working conditions. And the vaccine-and-testing rules raise no constitutional problems, the department said, because the federal government has the power to regulate businesses that participate in interstate commerce. Blocking the OSHA rules “would cost many worker lives and result in thousands of worker hospitalizations—all the more so as the pandemic's most recent surge drives case counts to new highs,” U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar wrote in court papers. It was the Biden administration that filed the emergency appeals to the Supreme Court in the healthcare cases after it lost some lower-court rulings to state attorneys general who sued to challenge that mandate. There, the administration argues that it has the power to ensure that Medicare and Medicaid providers meet the needed health and safety standards to protect patients. And it said the government has clear authority to impose conditions—including vaccine requirements—on facilities that accept federal healthcare funds. The states challenging the policy say it will exacerbate an already critical shortage of healthcare workers, particularly in rural communities. There is no set timetable for the Supreme Court to issue its decisions, but given the time-sensitive nature of the disputes, rulings are likely in a matter of weeks, if not days. While you're waiting for that decision, have you subscribed to the Fight Laugh Magazine. I'm holding the brand new Christmas Issue in my hands. Ben Carr, senior deputy prosecuting attorney for King County, made a recent Zoom presentation on "considerations for juvenile suspects."  "Even for serious offenses the primary focus will be on rehabilitation," Carr wrote, adding in parentheses, "get used to this concept."  The prosecutor presented a scenario where "young Timmy brings a pistol to school, brandishes it during a confrontation and causes panic," before debating whether a crime was committed, whether the juvenile court has jurisdiction in this case and what will happen to the kid "in Juvie."  That slide in particular drew ire from officials in the Seattle suburb of Federal Way, which has seen at least six instances over the past year of guns confiscated at schools in its district.  According to the presentation, if a student enters juvenile court, the case will result in "most likely, no time in custody and no ultimate conviction." Carr then presented on a "new concept of diversion," after King County Council recently approved a "restorative community pathways" program for juveniles.  Juveniles or adults charged with a first-time "non-violent felony offense" may be offered an opportunity to skirt appearing before a judge and instead face a "non-profit community panel" to decide how they "can be held accountable for their crime." Carr was forced to explain to his boss why the slideshow featured a popular meme of a dog sipping coffee in a burning building. "This is fine," the dog says ironically, surrounded by flames. KTTH said those groups that submitted the program proposal are run by liberal activists, many of whom have advocated for either abolishing or defunding the Seattle Police Department.  According to Carr's presentation, juveniles accused of assault, burglary, criminal trespassing, felony harassment, obstructing a law enforcement officer or second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm can still be referred to the restorative justice program and avoid appearing before a judge. Now as best as I can tell, this is a great example of Right and Left feeding right into one another's narratives and ruts. Like an old argumentative couple, the Left and Right in this narrative actually need each other and feed off one another's hypocrisies. It's a little convoluted, but it looks like a Righty mocked a Lefty proposal for Rehabilitation for juvenile delinquents. Rightys think Leftys go soft on crime. And that's because they do. And they do because they have rejected Original Sin, and they think people do bad things because they didn't have enough chocolate milk when they were little or maybe they had too much chocolate milk, I can't remember. But the Rightys have their own problems. They want to be tough on crime, but that isn't the same thing as being biblical about crime. The Leftys right that incarceration doesn't solve problems. In fact, there's virtually no place for imprisonment in biblical law. Basically, you have two options for crimes: restitution or the death penalty. If it can be paid back or restored in some fashion, then pay back what you stole, what you damaged, plus double or more depending on how egregious the crime was. And if you took a life, then your life is forfeit. No mass incarceration.  And so when it comes to non-violent juvenile delinquents, I'm in the odd position of agreeing with the Leftys while not trusting them to do any good with their rehabilitation classes and maybe even making the delinquents more violent. Because man, what makes a person more frustrated that having to listen to liberals preach about morals they know nothing about.  And remember there are a bunch of kids were talking about here whose fathers have abandoned them. Men and churches need to step and step in. So what we need is a Psalm.  Psalm of the Day: 10 0:00-0:55 You are the helper of the fatherless. Amen. Play: 0:00-0:07 I think I agree with Chuck Schumer … and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, January 4, 2021.  VAERS Stats from SEn. Ron Johnson The chart lists Ivermectin, Hydroxychloriquine, Flu vaccines, Dexamethasone, Tylenol, Remdesivir, and Covid Vaccines.  While Ivermectin lists 393 total deaths, with 15 deaths per year, and hydroxychloriquine lists 1770 total deaths, averaging 69 deaths per year, and Flu vaccines list 2001 deaths total, with an average of 77 deaths per year, Covid vaccines show a total of 21,002 deaths and since that has only been counting for the last year, that is also the currently annual average: 21,002 deaths from COVID vaccines. Now, were some of those deaths with vaccines instead of from vaccine? Most likely. But something is going on there.  Girls-Only Schools Say They Will Only Admit Biological Girls A group of girls-only private schools in Britain are refusing to admit transgender students, worried that it could affect their status as single-sex schools under current law. The Girls' Day School Trust (GDST), which represents 25 schools across Britain, released its policy with regards to gender identity in order to clarify that the schools organizing through this group should reject the admission of transgender children. The GDST believes that an admissions policy based on gender identity rather than the legal sex recorded on a student's birth certificate would jeopardize the status of GDST schools as single-sex schools under the act,” their new guidance states. “For this reason, GDST schools do not accept applications from students who are legally male. We will, however, continue to monitor the legal interpretation of this exemption,” the guidance continues. The Trust hastened to add that all current transgender students are welcome to remain as students.  The Trust also sacrificed four oxen, three sheep, and two turtle doves following the announcement, hoping not to be destroyed from the face of the earth. Biden To Promote Meat Industry Overhaul President Biden on Monday will promote an overhaul of the meat-packing industry as he blames rising consumer prices and dwindling farmers' profits on the handful of large “middlemen” who dominate the processing segment of the supply chain. Play: 2:00-2:44 The White House said the administration will spend $1 billion to expand independent processing capacity and instill competition in a market where four meat-packing companies control 85% of the beef market, four firms control 50% of poultry processing, and four big processors control 70% of the pork market. Mr. Biden is under pressure to alleviate inflation and supply chain pressures that are making food, gas, toys and other products more expensive. At times, he's blamed the sticker shock on price gouging by big industry players. The meat-processing industry is his latest target. He said dominant processors are increasing their profits at the expense of farmers and families. Mr. Biden's plan includes $100 million for workforce training and safety after Congress accused the meat-packing industry of forcing workers into unsafe conditions during the pandemic. Ransomware attacks also hit the industry earlier in Mr. Biden's term. The White House said it will strengthen rules that require farmers and ranchers to get a fair price for the meat they provide.  Ah… there we go: strengthen rules that require fair prices… That's exactly what you don't the Federal Government to be doing.  Rep. Thomas Massie thread: Thread. The Biden administration is over the target. Four companies control the majority of meat processed in the United States. This quad-opoly of corporate middlemen have driven up prices in stores while depressing prices paid to struggling farmers. (tinyurl.com/5bxm87km) We all agree: the solution is to promote competition. Biden advisors recommend antitrust lawsuits against the big packers and subsidies for the little guys.  There's a better answer though that's free: Roll back crippling regulations on the little guys and they will flourish. Six years ago, I worked with Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate to introduce a bill called the PRIME Act, which would right-size regulations and break up the corporate monopoly on meat processing.  We've introduced this bill in every congress since 2015. The PRIME Act would allow local farmers to sell meat in local grocery stores using local processors, as long as the commerce doesn't cross state lines, and complies with all state and county regulations (such as monthly inspections by county health departments). Here's the PRIME Act, just a few pages and easy to understand. Check out the House and Senate sponsors from both sides of the aisle: (congress.gov/bill/117th-con…)  (congress.gov/bill/117th-con…) So who opposes the PRIME Act and why hasn't it passed? Big Agriculture lobbyists (posing as friends of small farmers) oppose this bill, and I'm sad to tell you they've bought off most members of the House Agriculture committee. But a President could cut through the bull!  Meanwhile, critics also pointed out that Biden doesn't seem to be too concerned about Big Pharma monopolies. How many Pharmaceutical companies control the current medicine markets? And speaking of monopolies: Democrats Pushing End to Filibuster Rules Democrats are resuming their push to change Senate filibuster rules in the hope of passing elections legislation, and they plan to use the one-year anniversary of the Capitol riot to win over two hold outs, Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. Democrats are hopeful that they can sway the two moderates by arguing both publicly and privately that the riot set off a sustained Republican effort to erode voting rights in state capitals across the country, Politico reported Monday. Of course this would be an about-face from previous stances.  For example: In 2005, Then-Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., condemned weakening the Senate's tradition of extended debate as “an example of the arrogance of power,” a “power grab by the majority party” that would “eviscerate the Senate.” It was 2005, and Republicans held the White House and Congress. Chuck Schumer on the Filibuster Play Audio The Senate was established originally as a check against majoritarian impulses. It has an equal voice for all the states - 2 senators per state, and there are six year terms with only a third of the senators up for re-election every two years. The 60 vote filibuster is not required by the constitution, but it is certainly in keeping with the spirit of the constitution. Removing the 60 vote threshold certainly does move it closer to the House.  Of course in May 2017, Then-President Donald Trump demanded that Senate Republicans abandon extended debate in order to enact his legislative priorities. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., majority leader at the time, rejected “fundamentally changing how the Senate has worked for a very long time.” The difference between playing politics and standing for principle is seen very clearly right here. Principles are things that don't change. They remain the same for everyone, no matter who is in power. Frequently, Republicans are just as bad as Democrats. While there is certainly room to be grateful for some of what Trump did, this is certainly an area where he was rocking the boat in an unprincipled way. If the Democrats were smart, they'd cite Donald Trump as a defense for their move.  PSalm of the DAy: Psalm 30 2:48-3:28 Remember you can always find the links to our news stories and these psalms at crosspolitic dot com – just click on the daily news brief and follow the links.  This is Toby Sumpter with Crosspolitic News. The bill, sponsored by Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, targets slave labor in Xinjiang and surrounding provinces, where China is conducting a genocide of the Uyghur people. It passedthe House by voice vote Tuesday and is expected to be signed into law by President Joe Biden. The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act creates a “rebuttable presumption” that goods produced in Xinjiang or by certain listed Chinese business entities are produced by the forced labor of Uyghurs or other ethnic minorities. Companies may continue to import products from Xinjiang if they provide “clear and convincing evidence” to the Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection that their supply chains do not include forced labor. The bill's passage unlocks three votes to confirm Biden nominees to key State Department positions. Rubio and Democratic Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy agreed that the Republican would drop his objections to Nicholas Burns, nominated to be Ambassador to China, Ramin Toloui, nominated to be Assistant Secretary of State, and Rashad Hussain, nominated to be Ambassador for International Religious Freedom, in exchange for Murphy's lack of objection to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Glenn Loury Says America is Not White Supremacist  Play audio: 0:00-1:02 Why are people flocking here from all over the world? Because it's so oppressive and white supremacist?  Supreme Court Sends Texas Heartbeat Law Back to Appeals Court A U.S. Supreme Court decision Thursday dealt another blow to the Texas abortion industry by sending its lawsuit against the state heartbeat law back to a federal appeals court that previously allowed the legislation to go into effect. The Associated Press reports the pro-abortion groups suing to overturn the pro-life law wanted the justices to send their lawsuit back to U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman, who blocked the law in October. On Thursday, however, Justice Neil Gorsuch signed an order sending the case to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals instead, according to the report. Back in October, the Fifth Circuit rejected Pitman's ruling just a few days after he issued it and allowed the law to go into effect again. Pro-life leaders estimate that the heartbeat law, which bans abortions once an unborn baby's heartbeat is detectable, about six weeks of pregnancy, has saved thousands of babies' lives since it went into effect Sept. 1. The law includes a unique private enforcement mechanism that allows private individuals to sue abortionists and those who “aid and abet” in abortions in violation of the law. It is this provision that has been the main focus of the legal dispute thus far. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court threw out a lawsuit from President Joe Biden and rejected the Texas pro-abortion groups' request to temporarily block the law while their legal challenge continues through the courts. While the high court ruled that the Texas abortion businesses may continue with their lawsuit, it also watered down their case by allowing them to sue state licensing officials but not the state judges and clerks who are charged with handling lawsuits spurred by the law. Now, the Supreme Court is sending the case back to the Fifth Circuit for consideration, and abortion activists are losing hope — good news for the future of unborn babies in Texas. “The Supreme Court left only a small sliver of our case intact, and it's clear that this part of the case will not block vigilante lawsuits from being filed,” Marc Hearron, a lawyer with the Center for Reproductive Rights, told the AP. “It's also clear that Texas is determined to stop the plaintiffs from getting any relief in even the sliver of the case that is left.” Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California Berkeley School of Law, said he also was “stunned” that the Supreme Court allowed the law to remain in effect even though it violates Roe v. Wade. “The court's refusal to block the blatantly unconstitutional Texas law is also a strong signal that it is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade,” Chemerinsky wrote this week at the Los Angeles Times. Texas abortion businesses are admitting a likely defeat as well. They essentially have no way to stop Texas citizens and pro-life groups from filing lawsuits against them, abortionists and abortion center staff who help abort unborn babies in violation the law. And if the law remains in effect much longer, many Texas abortion businesses may close. According to the Texas Tribune: Amy Hagstrom Miller, president of Whole Woman's Health, which operates four clinics in Texas and is the lead plaintiff in the providers' lawsuit, warned last week that the current volume of services is not enough to keep clinics open in the long term. “Staying open is not sustainable if this ban stays in effect much longer,” Hagstrom Miller said. “We are grateful for the donors and foundations and folks who have been supporting us in the interim … but the future looks bleak if we can't get some justice here.” Ultimately, the abortion businesses' legal challenge appears to be “doomed,” the report concluded. And that's great news for unborn babies. A new study found that, in just the first month of the law, abortions in Texas went down 50 percent. Since then, Texas abortion facility directors have reported even bigger drops in their abortion numbers, as high as 80 percent compared to the previous year, according to the Texas Tribune. The heartbeat law has the potential to save tens of thousands of unborn babies from abortion every year. In 2020, about 54,000 unborn babies were aborted in Texas, and about 85 percent happened after six weeks of pregnancy, according to state health statistics. Join us in praising God that all seventeen of our loved ones are now safe," said a statement from Christian Aid Ministries. "Thank you for your fervent prayers throughout the past two months. We hope to provide more information as we are able." Haiti National Police Spokesman Gary Desrosiers also confirmed to NBC News that the hostages had been found safe, but would not say where they had been taken. Seventeen people working with the group were kidnapped in October by the 400 Mawozo gang, which controls the Ganthier commune in the suburb of Port-au-Prince where the missionaries were taken. Christian Aid Ministries had previously said that those who were kidnapped were sixteen U.S citizens and one Canadian citizen — six men, six women, and five children. The missionaries were returning from an orphanage, an hour and a half from Christian Aid Ministries Haiti base and often visited by their staff, when they were taken. The group, based in Millersburg, Ohio, repeatedly called for supporters to fast and pray for the safe release of the hostages, at one point earlier this month encouraging Christians to fast for three days. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. It is presented by the Heisman Trophy Trust in early December before the postseason bowl games. ESPN: Bryce Young is a sophomore and former five-star prospect from California, and he has lived up to the hype, beginning with a four-touchdown performance in a season-opening win over then-No. 14 Miami before going on the road to beat then-No. 11 Florida two weeks later. Despite playing behind a shaky offensive line, he dazzled with his ability to keep calm under pressure, evade the pass rush and find his receivers downfield. An accurate passer, he completed 68.0% of his attempts and didn't throw his first interception of the season until Week 4 against Southern Miss. In the end, Young's Heisman credentials included a sterling 43 passing touchdowns and only four interceptions. A gifted, albeit reticent runner, he also rushed for three scores. But it was down the stretch, in a dramatic come-from-behind win at Auburn to close out the regular season and then by dominating No. 3 Georgia and its top ranked defense in the SEC championship game a week later, that Young sealed his Heisman victory. It's probably a hate crime to point this out, but I'll just note that this young man has an intact family – a father and a mother who obviously loved him, supported him, and trained him to be the strong Christian young man he is today. Some meme recently pointed out that feminists are all about making sure that corporations and boards are made up of at least 50% women, but when it comes to families, apparently they're fine with whatever parenting configuration people want. I just saw some headline that California just registered its first every “throuple” which is a nonsense word meant to describe a couple that consists of three members, in this case three men who are all claiming equal status as parents on the birth certificate of some poor child. But back to my point: where are the feminists screaming that there is a distinct lack of female representation in the raising of this child?  https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/06/us/throuple-three-dads-and-baby-trnd/index.html But you can always tell where a society's highest values are – it's those places where society is most concerned about authority and obedience and rules. In our culture, we most care about civil authority and obedience to those rules and businesses, CEOs and corporate boards. But when it comes to the authority and sanctity of marriage and family, we are fine with however someone wants to wing it because we do not value children, and fundamentally, this tells you that we do not value people. We value products and money and states. But not people, not immortal souls that will live forever. But the more we value products, money, and states, the more it will destroy people, and you will get fewer and fewer Bryce Youngs. But if you are involved in the hard work of marriage and childrearing, then you are in the holy business of making people, forming people, and those people will live forever. Your labors are not in vain. Businesses, states, corporations, and money will all fade and crumble, but those people in the back seat are made in the image of the living God. Democratic Governor Declares COVID Emergency Over One Democratic governor says the time for COVID-19 regulations is over and that Americans should exercise personal responsibility over their health. “The emergency is over,” Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said in an interview last week with Colorado Public Radio. “You know, public health [officials] don't get to tell people what to wear; that's just not their job. Public health [officials] would say to always wear a mask because it decreases flu and decreases [other airborne illnesses]. But that's not something that you require; you don't tell people what to wear,” he said. “You don't tell people to wear a jacket when they go out in winter and force them to [wear it]. If they get frostbite, it's their own darn fault. If you haven't been vaccinated, that's your choice. I respect that. But it's your fault when you're in the hospital with COVID,” he said. “Everybody had more than enough opportunity to get vaccinated. Hopefully it's been at your pharmacy, your grocery store, a bus near you, [or at] big events. At this point, if you haven't been vaccinated, it's really your own darn fault,” he told Colorado Public Radio. Polis said that a year after the arrival of vaccines in America should mark the “end of the medical emergency.” Supreme Court Upholds New York Vaccine Mandate https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/13/politics/supreme-court-new-york-vaccine-mandate/index.html The Supreme Court turned away two emergency requests Monday from health care workers, doctors and nurses in New York to block the state's vaccine mandate. Justices Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Clarence Thomas dissented. The dispute arose when three nurses and a group called We the Patriots USA, Inc, challenged the mandate, arguing that it allowed exemptions for those with medical objections but not for people with religious objections.  The rule, which is currently in effect, covers workers in hospitals and nursing homes, home health agencies, adult centers as well as hospices. Several doctors who say they have treated many patients with Covid filed a separate request with the justices. So far, the justices have allowed state mandates from Indiana, Maine and New York to go forward suggesting a tolerance for state efforts to fight Covid-19 in the midst of a surge of the Delta variant.  Gorsuch wrote that he would have granted the requests, noting that the doctors and the nurses "have gone to great lengths to serve their patients" during the pandemic. He said that two of the doctors are not "anti-vaxxers who object to all vaccines," but that the sincerity of their religious beliefs should be respected. Gorsuch noted that only recently had New York indicated that religious exemptions would not be accepted and he stressed the fact that the state did accommodate those with non-religious objections to the mandate.  "Even if one were to read the State's actions as something other than signs of animus, they leave little doubt that the re-vised mandate was specifically directed at the applicants' unorthodox religious beliefs and practices," Gorsuch said wrote. He said that most every other state "has found that it can satisfy its COVID-19 public health goals without coercing religious objectors to accept a vaccine." Gorsuch noted the fact that the Pope has encouraged vaccination. He asked, rhetorically, "if so many other religious persons are willing to be vaccinated, it is tempting enough to ask: What can be so wrong with coercing the few who are not?"  Answering his own question, Gorsuch said, "We should know the costs that come when this Court stands silent as majorities invade the constitutional rights of the unpopular and unorthodox." Pearl Harbor Day Today we remember the attack on Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. The attack commenced at 7:48 a.m. Hawaiian Time (18:18 GMT) on December 7, 1941. The base was attacked by 353 Imperial Japanese aircraft (including fighters, level and dive bombers, and torpedo bombers) in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers. Of the eight U.S. Navy battleships present, all were damaged, four were sunk. All but USS Arizona were later raised, and six were returned to service and went on to fight in the war. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship, and one minelayer. A total of 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed; 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded. This was one of the decisive events that led to America joining World War 2.  Moscow Caroling  Moscow Idaho dot news Members of Christ Church, a local evangelical congregation, gathered to sing Christmas carols on Friendship Square on Sunday, December 5th, singing about a dozen traditional carols followed by hot cocoa and cookies. This is a yearly tradition for the church, and gathered approximately 300 people.  As they began singing, an individual residing in the second floor of the Moscow Hotel allegedly placed a noise machine speaker system in the window of an apartment in an attempt to drown out the Christmas carols. According to a witness at the scene who measured the sound with his smartphone, it topped 90 decibels. Meanwhile another individual on the steps of the Moscow Hotel yelled at the gathered families singing, and made disparaging gestures.  Pastor Doug Wilson stood up after a song and said, “Two things – the first thing we should do is on three yell ‘Merry Christmas.'” The carolers shouted a robust “Merry Christmas” on three, directed at those at the Moscow Hotel attempting to drown out the singing. Wilson continued, “The second thing is let's move across the street around the fountain.” The carolers crossed the street and continued singing. After a short while the noise from the noise machine ceased, and singing continued unhindered until the end of the event.  The individual responsible for the noise machine was issued a citation by Moscow Police for disturbing the peace, and an MPD officer stayed on the scene to ensure no more illegal disturbances would take place.  As the carolers made their way across the street, one of the carolers, Jared Longshore, tells the camera, “Merry Christmas! We do love them up there.” Listen:  0:50-1:49 Ad: Classical Conversations DNB:  Classical Conversations supports homeschooling parents by cultivating the love of learning through a Christian worldview in fellowship with other families. The diplomatic boycott means that U.S. athletes will still compete in the games, which will start in Beijing in February. The Chinese government responded with swift condemnation of President Joe Biden's decision -- saying the Olympics shouldn't be "a stage for political shows" and warning of "resolute countermeasures." But the Biden administration said it would not send senior U.S. government officials because of China's mass detention camps and forced sterilization campaign against Uighurs and other Muslim ethnic minorities in the country's western province -- policies that the U.S. government has determined constitute genocide and crimes against humanity. Biden has been under growing pressure domestically to take some kind of action against the Beijing games because of China's increasingly authoritarian policies at home and aggressive actions across the region. The decision to not send a delegation stops short of an outright boycott of the games, as U.S. athletes will be participating. "The athletes on Team USA have our full support. We will be behind them 100 percent, as we cheer them on from home," said White House press secretary Jen Psaki, but the administration didn't think "it was the right step to penalize athletes who have been training, preparing for this moment." It really isn't any random stranger's business to ask about someone's plans for marriage or having children. But parents are required by God to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. That nurture includes teaching about the blessing of children and family when we received with biblical faith. A parent talking with their grown children about marriage is not out of bounds, and while a married couple may not share every detail with parents, in a healthy relationship, it need not be some dark secret if a couple is struggling with infertility or some of significant health issues affecting the bearing of children.] “But not to worry—once you hit forty, that'll be behind you! We're going to be here to support you through that, too. [Wait. Who's going to be there for you? If everyone's doing the childless thing… um, who's going to be there for you? I mean all the childless people are going to get older and then they will need help from who exactly? And they actually won't be there for you because they will be going to doctors appointments and dealing with all the anxiety of prolonged isolation.] “Today is all about you, so let's celebrate! We've got cupcakes, Bellinis, and a big pile of presents for you to open. This first gift is from Carla and it's—you guessed it—a motorcycle! Fauci & Ted Cruz Spar Play Audio Cruz responded to Fauci's remarks in a series of tweets late on Sunday afternoon, calling Fauci “an unelected technocrat who has distorted science and facts in order to exercise authoritarian control over millions of Americans.” “He lives in a liberal world where his smug ‘I REPRESENT science' attitude is praised,” Cruz said. Cruz then laid out four “facts” related to his call for the DOJ to investigate Fauci: On May 11, Fauci testified before a Senate Committee that “the NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”On October 20, NIH wrote they funded an experiment at the Wuhan lab testing if “spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model.” That is gain of function research.Fauci's statement and the NIH's October 20 letter cannot both be true. The statements are directly contradictory.18 USC 1001 makes it [a] felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison, to lie to Congress. What does Fauci think of all this? Piers Morgan added his voice to the criticism of Fauci in his column in the Daily Mail: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10254589/PIERS-MORGAN-Faucis-political-point-scoring-shows-hes-interested-promoting-himself.html I've never heard Dr Anthony Fauci's cell phone voicemail greeting, but I imagine it says: 'Yes, I'll come on your show.' For someone whose day job is supposed to be leading America's scientific and medical war against Covid-19, he seems to have an incredible amount of spare time for self-promotional media interviews… The most egregious came on CBS's Face The Nation when Fauci burst out laughing after he was asked about Republican senator Ted Cruz calling for him to be prosecuted over his links to the Wuhan Institute of Virology from where many think the coronavirus outbreak leaked. 'I should be prosecuted?' he chuckled. 'What happened on January 6th, senator?' The interviewer, Margaret Brennan, then asked if he thought he was being used as a scapegoat to deflect attention from President Trump's culpability over the Capitol riots. 'Of course!' Fauci smirked. You have to be asleep not to figure that one out!' 'Well,' pressed Brennan, 'there are a lot of Republican senators taking aim at this.' 'That's okay,' replied Fauci, 'I'm just gonna do my job. I'm gonna be saving lives, and they are gonna be lying.' Brennan then said: 'It seems another level of danger to play politics around matters of life and death.' To which Fauci, without a trace of self-awareness, nodded: 'Exactly. And to me, that's unbelievably bad, because all I want to do is save people's lives.' Right, and the best way to do that is to alienate half the country from listening to you by trading in political point-scoring! It's always a worrying indicator of rampant egomania when a public figure starts talking about themselves in the third person, and sure enough that's what Fauci then did. 'Anybody who's looking at this carefully realizes that there's a distinct anti-science flavor to this,' he said. 'If they get up and criticize science, nobody's going to know what they're talking about. But if they get up and really aim their bullets at Tony Fauci — people could recognize there's a person there, so it's easy to criticize. But they're really criticizing science, because I represent science, and that's dangerous.' Wow. He sounds more like a religious leader berating non-believers than a scientist trying to grapple with a pandemic that has seen more scientific flip-flopping than any global medical crisis in my lifetime. The parallel is apt because the more he's been attacked, the more self-righteous, zealous and preachy Fauci has grown. The problem with Fauci saying he IS the Science is that so often in the pandemic, he's got the science plain wrong. In January 2020, when Covid first erupted in China, Fauci declared the virus was 'not a major threat for the people of the United States and this is not something the citizens of the United States right now should be worried about.' Fauci then said Covid was less concerning than the flu, which again was proven to be total nonsense. In subsequent weeks, Fauci repeatedly said the public shouldn't bother buying masks as they were ineffective. 'If you look at the masks that you buy in a drug store,' he said, 'the leakage around that doesn't really do much to protect you.' He also told 60 Minutes: 'People should not be walking around in masks.' Three months later, he conceded masks do work, and since then has demanded everyone wear them, though his guidance on when and where people should wear them has changed more often than a chameleon having an acid trip. Fauci initially opposed President Trump's China travel ban, then later said it had saved lives. He's also long dismissed the theory that Covid could have leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, insisting it had natural origins. Yet now many top scientists believe the lab leak theory is far more likely. More damagingly for Fauci, it transpired that the Wuhan lab received $600,000 in funding from the NIAID (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is part of the National Institutes of Health and run by Fauci) and emails were revealed showing he was informed early into the pandemic that experts were suspicious of the 'natural origin' theory. Fauci's links to the lab may be even murkier. Republican senators including Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have called for him to be investigated over suggestions that NIH money went towards funding risky 'gain of function' research to modify coronaviruses at the Wuhan lab. Back in May, Fauci testified that the NIH 'has not ever and does not now fund gain of function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.' However, he also said during that same hearing that there was no way to know if Chinese scientists working at the lab had lied and conducted gain of function experiments on bat coronaviruses using U.S. tax dollars. 'There's no way of guaranteeing that,' Fauci admitted. Given this response, the gravity of the claims, and the consequences for the whole world, it doesn't seem unreasonable for Fauci to be properly investigated as to exactly what did go down at that Wuhan lab involving US funding. And his furious reaction to any suggestions he's not being entirely transparent about it raises more suspicion than it dampens. Other Fauci pandemic flip-flops include saying he didn't believe in federal vaccine mandates, then recently endorsing some, and telling Americans in October to be wary of gathering for Christmas before performing an immediate U-turn after his comments provoked outrage and telling Americans to have a 'good normal Christmas'. Morgan concludes: And the more he contradicts himself on TV, the more he erodes public trust. If, as he insists, his only interest is in saving lives, then it's time Anthony Fauci put his ego away, stayed off TV and shut the f* up.  Werkz: DNB Shan and his team at Werkz specialize in concealed carry holsters for pistols with lights. EU & Taiwan https://apnews.com/article/europe-china-estonia-taiwan-latvia-de0c6b41ad5a50e9d4089ad9bb2c144d TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Lawmakers from all three Baltic states met with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen on Monday in a sign of further cooperation between European Union nations and Taiwan.  It is the first joint visit to Taiwan by members of parliament from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, Tsai said.  She welcomed the lawmakers, who are attending the 2021 Open Parliament Forum, hosted by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. China claims Taiwan is its own territory and rejects any attempts by the self-ruled island to participate in international forums or establish diplomatic relations with other countries that would give it international recognition.  Tsai noted the values and experiences that Taiwan has in common with the three countries. “Taiwan and the Baltic nations share similar experiences of breaking free of authoritarian rule and fighting for freedom. The democracy we enjoy today was hard earned,” Tsai said. “This is something we all understand most profoundly.” Matas Maldeikis, head of the Lithuanian delegation, said he hopes to see even stronger ties with Taiwan.  “We are here to express our solidarity with you. We hope the soon-to-be-open Lithuanian trade office in Taiwan will help to expand the partnership between Taiwan and Lithuania and contribute to a closer relationship with Taiwan and the whole European bloc,” he said. Earlier in November, Taiwan opened a de facto embassy in Lithuania under the name of Taiwanese Representative Office. Lithuania also plans to open a representative office in Taiwan. In response, China reduced its level of diplomatic relations with Lithuania to below ambassador level and also recalled its ambassador. Earlier, China expelled the Lithuanian ambassador from Beijing. Also charged in the case that goes to trial on January 24 is Pohjola's fellow Lutheran and a Finnish member of Parliament, Paivi Rasanen. Rasanen's alleged crimes in a country that claims to guarantee freedom of speech and religion include tweeting a picture of a Bible verse. Potential penalties if they are convicted include fines and up to two years in prison. Rasanen and Pohjola are being charged with “hate speech” for respectively writing and publishing a 24-page 2004 booklet that explains basic Christian theology about sex and marriage, which reserves sex exclusively for within marriage, which can only consist of one man and one woman, for life. The Finnish prosecutor claims centuries-old Christian teachings about sex “incite hatred” and violate legal preferences for government-privileged identity groups. Ghislain Maxwell Trial Beginning  https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/583301-trial-of-ghislaine-maxwell-alleged-accomplice-of-jeffrey-epstein-set The trial of British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who is accused of helping her close confidant Jeffrey Epstein recruit and sexually abuse underage girls, is set to begin on Monday, more than two years after the convicted sex offender's sudden death in prison. A jury of 12 individuals and six alternates will be empaneled at the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, where they will hear testimony in what is expected to be a six-week trial, according to The Washington Post. Maxwell, 59, has been charged with six counts for allegedly helping Epstein facilitate a sex trafficking scheme: conspiracy to entice a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, enticing a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors and sex trafficking of minors. Maxwell, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, is facing a maximum of 70 years in prison, according to the Post. This case is of particular interest as many celebrities and politicians have had ties to Epstein and Maxwell over the years, including former presidents Clinton and Trump. Epstein was famously found dead in his jail cell in August 2019. His death was ruled a suicide under very suspicious circumstances, sparking the cultural epitaph “Epstein didn't kill himself.”  Psalm of the Day: Psalm 61 by Jamie Soles Play audio: 0:00-1:28 Remember you can always find the links to our news stories and these psalms at crosspolitic dot com – just click on the daily news brief and follow the links.  This is Toby Sumpter with Crosspolitic News. What's the Goal of Antiracism? Play Audio: When people say that Critical Race Theory is just Marxism applied to race. This is what we're talking about. Instead of reducing everything and everyone down to economic status like Mark did, between the proletariat and bourgeois, modern Marxists divide everything and everyone by race or gender or some other intersectional nonsense. But notice that this lady says: anti-racism asks for “literally” a revolution that will tear down that system.  That system was built on Christian principles. Despite all the sin and evil that was still resident in it, there was a standard, an immune system slowly checking, curbing, and correcting those sinful elements. What will you get when the anti-racists are on top? What do you get when anti-racists are the oppressors? There's no standard… And just in case you think we might be a little extreme, it's what they are literally chanting in the streets of Chicago following the Rittenhouse exoneration: Play audio: 0:00-0:12 Twitter Users Suspended for Saying Rittenhouse Did Nothing Wrong After His Exoneration https://thefederalist.com/2021/11/22/twitter-suspended-me-for-saying-kyle-rittenhouse-did-nothing-wrong-after-his-acquittal/ Speaking of the Rittenhouse exoneration, Josiah Lippincott is a PhD student at Hillsdale College, a Marine veteran, and writer. In the exuberant hours after Rittenhouse's acquittal, he tweeted the phrase “Kyle Rittenhouse did nothing wrong” to his 10,000 followers. The tweet went viral, generating hundreds of retweets and thousands of likes.  Only a few days earlier, Mr. Lippincott had tweeted the same thing only to have it yanked by Twitter and his account suspended. So, following the jury's verdict, Mr. Lippincott tweeted the same phrase, “Kyle Rittenhouse did nothing wrong” with a screenshot of the previous suspension from twitter. He felt vindicated and apparently thousands other twitter users agreed.  However, Twitter was not having it, not even after a jury ruled that Kyle Rittenhouse was innocent of all charges. On Sunday morning, Mr. Lippincott woke up to another suspension from Twitter for insisting that Rittenhouse was in the right. The first suspension had been for 12 hours. This second suspension is for seven days.  Twitter has determined that it is the Grand Arbiter of truth and justice, not the American justice system, not due process, not a jury of peers, you know those principles of justice derived from the Word of God. Which, incidentally, when you make yourself the arbiter of truth and justice, you are essentially claiming to be God.  Police Officer Who was Fired for donating to Rittenhouse Fund Demands Job Back https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10222207/Virginia-cop-fired-anonymously-donating-25-Kyle-Rittenhouse-fund-demands-job-back.html In other news on the fallout of the Rittenhouse verdict: A Virginia cop who was fired for anonymously donating $25 to a Kyle Rittenhousedefense fund after being outed by hackers and the media is now demanding his job back from the woke, 'hypocrite' police chief who fired him.  Speaking to DailyMail.com on Friday, as the Rittenhouse verdict came in, Norfolk Police Lieutenant William 'Bill' Kelly explained why he thought Rittenhouse deserved his help back then, and why he stands by the decision now.  Kelly, a 19-year veteran and father-of-three who had moved into the internal affairs division at the time, made a $25 donation to a Give Send Go online campaign for Rittenhouse's legal team after watching social media videos and journalists' footage from the August 2020 Kenosha riots.  He wrote alongside his donation: 'God Bless. Thank you for your courage. Keep your head up. You've done nothing wrong. Every rank-and-file police officer supports you.'  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10222207/Virginia-cop-fired-anonymously-donating-25-Kyle-Rittenhouse-fund-demands-job-back.html#v-2288644209685676032 Play audio: 0:14-0:39 Kelly, a self-confessed 'news junkie', saw that a GoFundMe account for Rittenhouse had been canceled, and a site called Give Send Go had set up another page for him.  He logged on and donated, making sure to leave out personal details because he says he didn't want to associate himself with the police department.  'I was interested in giving him the chance to defend himself in front of a jury. I know that lawyers are expensive, and it's hard sometimes to get the message out there. I wanted to make sure that he had the means necessary to make his claim in court. 'It mattered. The comments I made, my belief that he has a strong claim for self-defense was a personal opinion. I didn't want my city or police department to be associated with it, so I chose to donate anonymously. 'It was only after the hackers broke into it that they were able to connect those dots,' he said. A hacker group called 'Distributed Denial of Secrets' obtained his name and email address from the fund and provided it to The Guardian, which published a story including his name. The Daily Dot followed.  Within a day of it coming out, the Norfolk Police Department was receiving widespread calls to fire Kelly from all over the world.  'It wasn't people local, it was people from all around the country who read an article and sent a nasty tweet. In the absence of that outcry, there would not have been any kind of disciplinary action against me, I'm confident,' he said.  The city decided that the comments 'eroded' the public's trust in the police and Kelly was fired in April.  He has since filed a grievance, but the process is ongoing and in the meantime, he's had to survive on his savings. He says the only reason he was fired was because he supported the teenager.  'If I had a different opinion and I donated to a fund for the victims and made comments about how Mr. Rittenhouse was a murderer, nobody would have cared or tried to get me fired.' In his grievance, he points to the fact that the police chief Larry Boone attended a BLM protest in May last year in full uniform, while on duty.  In the photo, Boone is holding a sign that reads Black Lives Matter, with the names of people who have been shot by cops - including some in Norfolk - around it.  'The hypocrisy is dumbfounding. For the leader of our organization to be able to advocate support for a movement that is at the very least divisive in America today, in uniform while on duty... he was holding carried the name of a person who had recently been shot by a Norfolk police officer.  'The sign demanded justice for that person, but that shooting was still under investigation to determine whether or not that officer should be charged criminally. It's very inconsistent. Jonah Goldberg and Chris Hayes Leaving Fox over Tucker Carlson January 6 Doc  https://thedispatch.com/p/why-we-are-leaving-fox-news?fbclid=IwAR0swf7Gg8vVO8xeHsUYi67w0JtZmwV8Pfpvscb47Wr_SAz56eL_ckZmMMk Jonah Goldberg and Chris Hayes announced that they are leaving Fox News over the weekend. But the voices of the responsible are being drowned out by the irresponsible.  A case in point: Patriot Purge, a three-part series hosted by Tucker Carlson.  The special—which ran on Fox's subscription streaming service earlier this month and was promoted on Fox News—is presented in the style of an exposé, a hard-hitting piece of investigative journalism. In reality, it is a collection of incoherent conspiracy-mongering, riddled with factual inaccuracies, half-truths, deceptive imagery, and damning omissions. And its message is clear: The U.S. government is targeting patriotic Americans in the same manner —and with the same tools—that it used to target al Qaeda.  Trailer for Tucker Carlson's Patriot Purge 0:27-1:06 Under the audio, there, are images of people being water-boarded, Afghanistan operations as well as images from the January 6 extravaganza.  Hayes and Goldberg write: “This is not happening. And we think it's dangerous to pretend it is. If a person with such a platform shares such misinformation loud enough and long enough, there are Americans who will believe—and act upon—it. This isn't theoretical. This is what actually happened on January 6, 2021. Over the past five years, some of Fox's top opinion hosts amplified the false claims and bizarre narratives of Donald Trump or offered up their own in his service. In this sense, the release of Patriot Purge wasn't an isolated incident, it was merely the most egregious example of a longstanding trend. Patriot Purge creates an alternative history of January 6, contradicted not just by common sense, not just by the testimony and on-the-record statements of many participants, but by the reporting of the news division of Fox News itself.”  While I really appreciated Goldberg's Liberal Fascists, and I still recommend it to you heartily, I'm beginning to wonder if Goldberg is one of those academics who can only spot the enemy safely behind the glass of several decades. This is the problem with many academics. They can do plenty of good historical work and careful analysis from the distance of time, but they cannot see clearly enough when the battle is right in front of them.  And do not misunderstand me. I'm not endorsing the Tucker Carlson documentary. I haven't seen it. But I find it utterly baffling to completely dismiss it as “a collection of incoherent conspiracy-mongering.” And if they are so sure that it is, could they at least be so kind as to point us to some of easy-peasy explainers we could send to our grandmothers? There absolutely is surface plausibility to the thought that in the eyes of the Left, conservative Christians are the new target. Merrick Garland's designation of parents protesting at school board meetings as domestic terrorists is not conspiracy mongering.  Also, even if there's no united conspiracy, Christians know that the spirit of the age, the spirit of unbelief hates God, hates the truth, and loves violence, and that spirit is at work. It need not be in a central office in Buffalo. And I have no problem with anyone pointing out facts or narratives that Tucker has gotten wrong. Let the truth out.  Psalm of the Day: Psalm 2 Play: 0:00- Why do the heathen nations vainly rage? What prideful schemes are they in vain devising? Our cup overflows with Tour de France stories to discuss today, and on this episode of The VeloNews Podcast we hit as many as we can. First up is the French police raid on the Bahrain-Victorious team hotel, and why this raid in Pau has a special tie to cycling history. Then, we break down all the action from the summit finish on stage 18, which saw Tadej Pogačar bang the nail into the coffin of his rivals. Plus, Ineos Grenadiers appears to be in a free fall during this disastrous tour. Finally, reporters asked Pogačar about his relationship with team manager Mauro Gianetti, who has previously worked with riders implicated in doping. What does Pogačar's statement tell us about the current generation's ties to cycling's past? Then, coach Nate Wilson of EF Education-Nippo joins the podcast to discuss the ever changing pathway for U.S. riders to get to the Tour de France. Wilson has seen multiple riders reach the WorldTour ranks, and the path to the big leagues for U.S. riders is never straightforward. All that and more on this episode of The VeloNews Podcast!
