Narendra Modi, India's prime minister, is known for his outfits. Since rising to become India's head of government in 2014, photographers and journalists have long followed his clothing styles, each saying something about India. It's part of a long tradition of using clothing to make a statement about India—and about defining a political brand. Nor is it unique to India–remember Obama's tan suit, or now the MAGA red cap? Trudi is going to be at the St Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade this weekend. FOX 2;s Jessica Dupnack found herself in the middle of some good ol Westland hijinks. A landlord was busted 'making love' in his tenants' house. We can't get enough of The Crash on Netflix. Drew has been binge listening to her jail calls. Brand new Bonerline. More stories about not taking dumps at school. Some French dude drugged women so they would have to pee in front of him. Matthew Perry's estate is selling all of his crap...And his blown out hot tub. Ray Romano is rich as hell for making a stupid TV show. A 75-Year-Old woman died at Tim Horton's. And it wasn't from the food or coffee. Sami Sheen was in the news for wearing a bikini. Guess who's hosting the AMA's this year. Wait...The AMA's are still on? We call Tom, who's at the Detroit Tigers game. He doesn't answer. Okay, bye. Donald Trump almost endorsed Spencer Pratt today. Spencer just cares about the moms. Taxes suck. Maz calls back. It's loud as hell at Comerica Park. Tom has a hot take on the Detroit Pistons. Tom took a spill in his front yard today, his elbow hurts again, and he's going to man up and work tomorrow. Maz waxes poetic on the 1973 Knicks. Okay, bye. More Meghan Markle news...Meghan is so tone deaf when it comes to her public appearances. And her fake letter from British Airways EXPOSED. Jim's Picks: Top 10 Songs Released In The 2020s. The whiskey world is changing—and not quietly. In this episode, we dive headfirst into two forces shaping the future of the industry. First, the growing push to legalize home distilling in the U.S., and what that could mean for innovation, craftsmanship, and the next generation of distillers. Is this a return to whiskey's roots…or a disruption the big players aren't ready for? Then, we turn to the corporate side of the fight. Rumors are swirling around Sazerac Company potentially setting its sights on Brown-Forman—a move that could reshape the power structure of the whiskey world overnight. What would this mean for legacy brands, market competition, and the soul of the industry? From grassroots distillers to billion-dollar boardrooms, this episode breaks down the tension between tradition, control, and the freedom to create. The future of whiskey isn't set in stone—and the fight is already underway.Patreon.com/offtopicwhiskeyBadmotivatorbarrels.com/shop/?aff=3https://www.instagram.com/zsmithwhiskeyandmixology?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==The "fight for the future of whiskey" is not a single battle, but a complex intersection of market corrections, regulatory disputes, and shifting consumer values. As of 2026, the industry is transitioning from a decade of "hyper-expansion" to an era defined by maturity and transparency.1.The "Glut" vs. Disciplined ProductionA major internal conflict exists between maintaining high prices and managing a massive surplus of aging stock.Inventory Crisis: In Kentucky alone, aging barrels have reached approximately 16.1 million, a potential oversupply of 300% compared to current demand.Strategic Pauses: To prevent a total market collapse, major producers like Jim Beam and Diageo (owners of Balcones and George Dickel) have suspended or slowed production through 2026 to let inventories normalize.De-premiumization: Experts note a reversal of the two-decade "trading up" trend. Consumers are becoming skeptical of $1,000+ "vanity bottles" and are returning to the $30–$70 price range for better value.2. The Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) ShowdownA significant legal and regulatory fight is occurring over how whiskey reaches the consumer.Three-Tier System: Many state legislatures are fighting to protect the traditional three-tier system (producer → wholesaler → retailer) to secure tax revenue and maintain oversight.Shipping Rights: Craft distillers are lobbying for the right to ship directly to doorsteps, arguing it is essential for survival in a market where large distributors often favor legacy brands.3. Global Trade and Retaliatory TariffsWhiskey has become a primary weapon in international trade disputes, leading to what some call a "Tariff War".Retaliatory Barriers: Major markets like Canada and the EU have imposed significant tariffs on American whiskey. In 2025, some Canadian retailers even pulled American bottles from shelves entirely, replacing them with "Buy Canadian" signs. The Pivot to India: With Western markets slowing, the industry is fighting for access to India, the world's largest whiskey market by volume. Producers are lobbying for lower tariffs (currently at 100% for U.S. bourbon) to tap into India's massive rising middle class.4. Sustainability and AuthenticityA cultural "fight" is emerging as brands compete for younger, "mindful" drinkers.Terroir & Ingredients: Distillers like Westland are focusing on Pacific Northwest peat and heirloom grains to prove provenance.Eco-Mandates: Sustainability is becoming a market requirement rather than a choice. Brands like Bruichladdich and Glenmorangie are leading shifts toward renewable energy and water conservation to attract eco-conscious Gen Z and Millennial buyers.Transparency: The "new luxury" is information. Brands that publish mash bills, fermentation choices, and barrel details are winning loyalty over those relying on marketing "hype".

California agriculture continues to evolve as growers adapt to water shortages, rising labor costs, and global competition. On the latest AgNet News Hour, Fresno County Viticulture Advisor George Zhuang shared insights on the grape and raisin industry, highlighting innovation, collaboration, and the future of raisin production. Raisin Industry Innovation and Sustainability Zhuang emphasized the importance of staying competitive in the global market. With California no longer the undisputed leader in raisin production, new varieties like Sunpreme, combined with mechanized pruning and trellis systems, are paving the way for more efficient, sustainable production. These innovations could allow for near-complete mechanization, reducing labor reliance while maintaining quality. Zhuang also stressed the need to preserve traditional varieties like Thompson raisins while embracing technological advances to ensure the industry's future. Upcoming Events: Grape Symposium & World Ag Expo Growers and industry professionals are invited to the San Joaquin Valley Grape Symposium on January 7th at UC Kearney in Parlier, California. The full-day event features morning classroom presentations on raisin varieties, rootstocks, pest management, and afternoon field demonstrations of mechanical pruning techniques. Zhuang encouraged all interested in grapes, from PCA advisors to growers, to attend and network with experts and industry veterans. The podcast also highlighted the World Ag Expo in Tulare (February 10–12), featuring cutting-edge automation, educational seminars, and 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space. These events provide opportunities for growers to stay informed on the latest technologies, best practices, and market trends. Advocacy, Policy, and Consumer Awareness The show addressed broader agricultural challenges, including water shortages in the Westland's Water District, labor pressures from rising minimum wages, and global competition in raisin production. Listeners were reminded of the importance of advocating for California-grown products and supporting U.S. agriculture. Mental health resources for farmers, promoted by the American Farm Bureau Federation, were also discussed, highlighting the human side of farming. Conclusion With innovation, education, and community support, California's grape and raisin industries are positioning themselves for a sustainable future. Tune into the AgNet News Hour to hear the full discussion with George Zhuang and stay connected to critical updates, events, and resources shaping the state's agriculture.

We see the opposite. For us, whiskey is not a feature of this world that is ours to protect, it is an extension of ourselves that is ours to advance when the opportunity presents itself. And the opportunities are vast, maybe incalculable. Each bottle of whiskey we fill at Westland represents one step forward in sharing the story of our place. Ten years have passed, and we have circled the topic of terroir again and again, each time sensing an opportunity to approach it from a new perspective. But always, we're heading west.Westland Whiskey started in 2011 with a great vision to create American Single Malt whiskey that reflects the true colors of the Pacific Northwest region. Over ten years later, we continue to fill casks with single malt whiskey that we distill in Seattle's SoDo neighborhood and age mindfully in Washington State's Skagit Valley region. We are proud to be seen as one of America's premiere distillers with sustainable practices and award-winning spirits. We love hearing from you; contact us if you have any questions about Westland.Whiskey$59.99Westland's signature American Single Malt Whiskey is a culmination of over 10 years pioneering a new category of whiskey that has put America on the global single malt map. This latest expression represents the possibilities to be explored in single malt and captures the essence of our house style in one flagship bottle.Garryana 10th Edition - Aged 10 YearsA Decade of PursuitOur exploration of Garryana began with purpose and curiosity in November of 2011. It was with that first cask that we saw the massive potential of our native oak, not just for its incredible flavor profile, but for its ability to distinguish, in a palpable way, the unique character of our Pacific Northwest terroir. Since 2011, we've been waiting for the opportunity to showcase the qualities of our native oak in a new way, and to honor Garryana with the reverence and patience it deserves. Westland is releasing, for the first time, an age-stated whiskey, Garryana, Aged 10 years. The result of years of dedicated effort and the beginning of a new chapter for Westland, as we continue to explore the unique qualities of our Pacific Northwest home. We hope you enjoy the journey as much as we have.Product Specs: Maturation Time: 10 yearsABV: 50% ABV // 100 Proof Grain Bill: Westland Signature Five Malt + Washington Pale Malts Primary Casks: First & Second Fill Garry Oak Secondary Casks: Pedro Ximenez Hogshead, Rum, and Ex-Bourbon Nose: Mulled Wine, Clove, Walnut Fudge Brownie, and Lemon Danish PastryPalate: S'mores, Dehydrated Strawberry, Toasted Cumin, Blood Orange
