Put on your abstinence ring and head over to the local swimming hole because we're discussing Mitchell Lichtenstein's 2007 horror comedy Teeth! Join us as we go all in on this seemingly forgotten relic of the aughts, praising its handling of some admittedly difficult subject matter while masterfully balancing the tone without sacrificing sincerity. Plus: digging into Teeth's mishandled release, its 2024 off-Broadway musical adaptation and wondering why lead actress Jess Weixler never became the Parker Posey of her generation. Katie and special guest/surrogate sister Mel cheers over severed penises as they re-watch the cult classic: Teeth! It's a movie all about how purity ring cults not only ruin things like the Jonas Brothers, but they also may or may not cause teeth to develop in your vagina... Or something like that! Meet Dawn, a high school cult leader who truly believes "Love Is Worth Waiting For" (buy the song on iTunes). When she meets Toby, a knock-off Adam Brody, she quickly discovers that some love ain't worth waiting for - especially when its experienced forcefully in a creepy cave! Unbeknownst to her, there's something inside of her (NOT THE SERPENT) which has no problem biting back against sexual assaulters. Dawn goes on a journey of self-discovery, sexual awakening, and murder - lots and lots of murder. Watch as this not a girl not yet a woman rampages through town with her vagina! Released in 2007, it was written and directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein

As we're all no doubt aware by now Peter has had some very real difficulty with his teeth. Two double root canal operations and a hefty bill were at the forefront of our thinking when coming up with ideas for this weeks show. Expect a hire car themed episode soon so we can laugh at Peter some more...Teeth are a set of hard, bony enamel-coated structures in the jaws of most vertebrates, used for biting and chewing. They also provide a great deal of inspiration for memorable movie moments as we discovered this week. Some fantastic nominations online too - thanks so much!We were all very surprised when Pete nominated Teeth, the 2007 American comedy horror film written and directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein. Dawn O'Keefe is a teenage spokesperson for a Christian abstinence group called "the Promise". Dawn promotes the sanctity of the human body and promises to save herself for marriage. However teenage hormones and a trip to the lake lead us to the inevitable moment we waited for from the moment the movies started. And then we have various repeats of the same moment with slightly different motivations, but ultimately the same result. This one left us slightly underwhelmed but not a total dud. We also discovered that you can replace the lyrics to Hakuna Matata with vagina dentata with hilarious results. We're approaching 300 episodes and we somehow still haven't talked about SpongeBob. Until now. I think mainly it just feels like a derivative of Ren and Stimpy, but we all still got a kick out of it. So go watch it with your kids I suppose. We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com. The Equalizer Season 2 Episode 19: Coal Black Soul Aired on CBS: May 6, 1987 Directed by: Richard Compton Written by : Scott Shepherd Featuring: Patricia Kalember, Mitchell Lichtenstein, Chris Elliott (!), Lois Smith, Earl Hindman (Wilson), the great Jihmi Kennedy, and Gale "We'll Sing in the Sunshine" Garnett There's a serial killer loose but more importantly, The Equalizer has found himself a ladyfriend. And as he'll tell you, she's quite the dish. Not only that, she's a therapist, and she can help him go all Freud 101 on that serial killer, so much so that EQ's main strategy to combat him is to psych that mother out. And does this ladyfriend feel the same for the Equalizer? Oh yes she does. And just how much younger is she? Oh really? Jesus. So is it like a silver fox piss-off-the-parents thing? Anyways, we'll get to the bottom of all that in the podcast. @equalizerspod equalizerspodcast at gmail dot com

The second film in our Self-Aware Horror cycle is the 2012 postmodern bonanza The Cabin in the Woods. What happens when the Post-Scream style of ironic horror goes past the event horizon? The infamous Joss Whedon teamed up with Drew Goddard to create this send-up of the horror genre. The Cabin in the Woods is in many ways the paradigm of self-aware horror. It doesn't really work unless you are a horror fan and you can easily translate the winks and homage. Unlike the straight parody of Scary Movie, The Cabin in the Woods tries to move the genre past the shadow of the Scream 90s and reboot 2000s, but we are unsure of its success. Special Guest, Evan Crean from Spoilerpiece Theatre, helps ups dissect this endpoint of horror film. Or was it really just the beginning of a new era? All three of us grapple with Whedon's sullied legacy, and how the artist behind the story can deeply color our interpretation of the messages both intended and unintended. For our chaser film, we have chosen 2007's Teeth, a mostly forgotten indie horror comedy that bites down hard on the vagina dentata myth. Written and directed by famous artist Roy Lichtenstein's son Mitchell Lichtenstein, this small film did get a lot of praise and hype back when it was premiered. It won the Special Jury Prize at Sundance in 2007, but it sadly sat on the shelf for a year and was released DOA in Jan 2008.
Hey, Freaks and Geeks. TRIGGER WARNING!!! In this episode, we talk about some very sensitive subjects, such as rape, sexual assault and other graphic sexual themes. Please be advised when making the decision to listen to this episode. Lyss, Coop and Beck compare and contrast Mitchell Lichtenstein's Teeth and Karyn Kusama's Jennifer's Body. Oh boy, do these movies spark some discussion. You can watch Teeth on Tubi and Jennifer's Body on Amazon Prime. Thanks for listening!
Dylan's film choice, Mitchell Lichtenstein's "Teeth" (2007), and Marley's album pick, Cults' "Cults" (2011), fit this episode's theme of Thing We Felt Cool to Know About. Content warning: inexplicit talk of sexual assault with "Teeth" conversation.
On this week's episode, host Ygraine chats with Robyn Adams about the icky oozey slimey subgenre of body horror! Together they discuss David Cronenberg's 'VideoDrome' and Mitchell Lichtenstein's 'Teeth'.
Caitlin is joined by longtime friend Matt to discuss the cult classic Teeth. Matt is also a dentist, so how could we NOT do Teeth? This episode is really personal for me, as I talk at the end about a condition that I have called vaginismus/vulvodynia. Long story short: like Dawn in Teeth, my vagina sometimes feels inhospitable, and it's made for comlicated and painful moments in my life. We end up talking a lot about medical self-advocacy, and how important it is to feel comfortable with your healthcare providers. Go easy on me; it's a sensitive one.
Welcome to Shroom Land! This week we're talking about the movie Teeth, directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein, and bringing back one of our favorite tropes: the weaponized vagina. For this week's installment in Femme Fatale February, imagine this: you waddled into some video store and you need to pick a movie. You want to pick something empowering to womyn, because you aren't no scrub (also known as a "busta"). In this scenario, the alphabet is different and you see two options side by side, Teeth and Frankenhooker. Which do you choose? Teeth was written and directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein. It features Jess Weixler as Dawn O'Keefe, who just happens to have a Gilgamek vagina from South Park... y'know, lined with teeth. Weixler recently wrote and starred in Fully Realized Humans. Please see it and report back, because it seems to be a really interesting character study. Rather than ending up in Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, this poor girl just goes to Jesus parties and talks about abstinence. We didn't talk about this on the show, but I am dying to know what you think her X-Man-- X-Woman? Aha! X-Person name would be. Let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. Best submissions will get read on next week's episode. She is repeatedly victimized by the men in her life, though refreshingly not the one guy you would expect if you've ever seen a horror movie before. The main antagonist in the film is John Hensley as Brad. You may recall he was in Nip/ Tuck. Remember when that show was kinda like a thriller and then it just became gross and sad? Anyway, his mutation is being (and not having) a massive dick-- which you get to see onscreen! ...albeit mangled and bleeding. The other choice is Frankenhooker. I know, you are probably rolling your eyes, but let's have a candid discussion about it. This film was "written" by Bob Martin and Frank Henenlotter. I say "written," because Henenlotter has basically admitted that this movie had very little in terms of a script, yet somehow it provides pretty timeless social commentary and has structural elements like callbacks. You may know Henenlotter from the Basket Case trilogy. He is also a renowned cinema historian. If you are a fan of this show, please consider checking him out. He has some great interviews and can talk everything from pulp exploitation films to b-movie creature features. Frankenhooker stars James Lorinz as Jeffrey Franken. He is an electroengineer, blessed and cursed with brilliance, and seemingly doused in rotten luck. His fiancee, played by Patty Mullen, is Elizabeth Shelley/ the TITular Frankenhooker (see what I did there?). Sadly, her onscreen career was very short, with her only other film being Doom Asylum. She was a Penthouse playmate of the month and year though, so that's cool. When tragedy befalls Elizabeth, Jeffrey exploits working women, trying to harvest their parts to reconstruct the love of his life. Truly, a romantic masterpiece. Which is better? Which is more fun to watch? Which is more empowering to women? Which should you rent in this scenario? Listen, and find out! "It's true! Vagina dentata!" Damien is joined by his friend Nyari to find out why she thinks the horror-comedy film, Teeth (2007) is a film everyone should see. Directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein and starring Jess Weixler, John Hensley and Lenny von Dohlen, this film poses the question: What if vagina's evolved to have teeth? Think about how the world would change. How cultural ideas of power would change. WARNING: THIS EPISODE CONTAINS DIRTY CHAT! Episode 31 sees the boys confronted by an ever-growing pile of severed penises as they are joined by writer/podcaster and all-round extreme film fan, Zöe Rose Smith! Her chosen film? Teeth! Harking back to the hazy days of 2007, Mitchell Lichtenstein's rape-revenge/cautionary tale is possibly now more important than it ever has been. Featuring some great performances and some truly wince inducing moments, the time is now to revisit Teeth. The synopsis is as follows: Dawn is an active member of her high-school chastity club but, when she meets Tobey, nature takes its course, and the pair answer the call. They suddenly learn she is a living example of the vagina dentata myth, when the encounter takes a grisly turn. Please note that this podcast contains strong language and EXTREMELY Scottish accents. After a long week of guest appearances on the SinCast and the Final Girls HorrorCast, we're back on home turf. And we've brought a guest of our own. This week director, producer, actor, and all-around cool guy Adam Stilwell joins us as the third man in the booth. Buckle up folks, it's a good one. Our news feed starts off with Jacob and Adam trying to explain who Helen Mirren is as we look at the initial details of WINCHESTER: THE HOUSE THAT GHOST BUILT. From vagina dentata to ANGELICA, Mitchell Lichtenstein is shifting gears in a very unexpected way. It should surprise no one that Luke is excited for the insanely brutal Chilean film TRAUMA, but is anyone else ready for that? Nordic cinema continues to be stupidly gorgeous with I REMEMBER YOU, while Christmas horror gets gritty with a one-eyed Santa in ONCE UPON A TIME AT CHRISTMAS. Last but not least, Adam gives us the lowdown on all the goodies available on THE TRIANGLE DVD, on sale this Friday. Round two we check out the highly anticipated CREEP 2. Most people were fans of the first, so we dive in to see if Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice can capture lightning in a bottle one more time. Finally, before we release Adam from his captivity, we do a round of #ASKMODERNHORRORS. Will we lick a goat eyeball? Only one way to find out. Hit that play button and share it with a friend!
Minki’s been prepping for his big sketch comedy performance and Tracy has been cleaning up dead bunnies from her backyard, but that doesn’t stop them for doing what they do best...watching horror movies, retelling and assessing them. In this episode, they “cut their teeth” on discussing allegories for rape by diving right into the mouth of this subversive, counter-culture film. With motifs of “the avenging angel,” “rape revenge” and “the special gift” prominently used, this dark comedy horror features a lead character who goes from being an abstinent teen to an empowered woman who uses a certain special power to fight off the numerous hostile males in her life. The hosts discuss how the director wanted to make this film, based quite literally on a ridiculous urban legend, after the New Puritanism trends following 9/11 and while Tracy enjoys this feminist horror, Minki thinks it might’ve been done better if directed by a woman! Sooooo, next week they’ll watch Consommé...a short horror, made by a woman, about a woman who also fights against male antagonists.
What do the foibles of the American education system, sexual power myths and horrible gynecologists have in common? The movie Teeth. Join Dawn and Jen as they pick at the sexual politics in abstinence education, give you a brief primer on the legend of vagina dentata, and the beautiful usage of comedy in horror in this 2007 film by Mitchell Lichtenstein. One of our favorites, we hope you like it to. WARNING: This movie and podcast contains discussion of rape and a lot of usages of the word vagina. Thanks always to The Shape for the intro/outro music. Special thanks to podcast commissioner Julie Webster for pulling the trigger on the Mitchell Lichtenstein film, "Teeth", starring Jess Weixler. It is a frequently funny, sometimes creepy, yet often insightful look at the mythology behind vagina dentata, or "toothed vagina". This movie has severed peen for days, ya'll. They guys spend the better part of an awkward hour discussing the film and related topics, hope you enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
