From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Kevin Sorbo Sorbo in 2022 Born Kevin David Sorbo September 24, 1958 (age 65) Mound, Minnesota, U.S. Alma mater Minnesota State University Moorhead (BA) Occupations Actor producer director Years active 1984–present Spouse Sam Jenkins (m. 1998) Children 3, including Braeden Sorbo Website kevinsorbo.net Kevin David Sorbo (born September 24, 1958) is an American actor and producer. He has had starring roles in two television series: as Hercules in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995–1999) and as Captain Dylan Hunt in Andromeda (2000–2005). In between his years playing Hercules, Sorbo played his first leading film role in the 1997 fantasy film Kull the Conqueror. Sorbo is also known for acting in Christian films such as God's Not Dead (2014) and Let There Be Light (2017). Early life and education[edit] Sorbo was born in Mound, Minnesota, on September 24, 1958.[1] He is of Norwegian descent.[2] He was raised in a Lutheran family.[3] Sorbo attended Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he double majored in marketing and advertising.[4] To help pay for tuition, he began to work as a model for print and television advertising.[5] Early work[edit] In the mid-1980s, Sorbo traveled around Europe and Australia working in television commercials and also modeling for print advertisements. During this period, he made his acting debut in an episode of the soap opera Santa Barbara in 1986. He continued working in advertising and by the early 1990s, he had appeared in over 150 commercials. One of the popular commercials he appeared in was for Jim Beam bourbon whiskey, known for Sorbo's repeated catchphrase, "This ain't Jim Beam".[6] He made guest appearances in television series such as 1st & Ten, Murder She Wrote, and The Commish. In 1992, he played his first leading role in an unsuccessful television pilot for a medical drama series titled Condition: Critical, which was not picked up, but aired as a television film on ABC. He was considered for and lost out to Dean Cain as Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and was one of the possible contenders for the role of Fox Mulder in The X-Files, which went to David Duchovny.[7][8][9][10] In 1993, he made his film debut in Slaughter of the Innocents.[11] Professional breakthrough with Hercules[edit] In 1993, Sorbo received his breakthrough leading role as the ancient greek demigod Hercules in a series of five television films that aired as part of Universal Television's Action Pack.[12] The first film to premiere was Hercules and the Amazon Women, which aired in April 1994, the others following later in the year. The ratings success of the films paved the way for the commission of the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, which started airing in syndication from January 1995 and ran for six seasons. The series made Sorbo an international star and was one of the highest rated syndicated television shows at the time.[13][better source needed] The success of the show spawned the popular spin-off series Xena: Warrior Princess starring Lucy Lawless, who was introduced in a three-episode arc in the first season of Hercules. This allowed several characters from both shows to make crossover appearances. In 1998, a spin-off direct-to-video, animated film titled Hercules and Xena – The Animated Movie: The Battle for Mount Olympus was released with both Sorbo and Lawless voicing the characters.[14] Hercules was canceled midway through the filming of Season Six, of which only eight episodes were produced. The final episode aired in November 1999.[15] Although it was not revealed at the time, health issues reduced Sorbo's abilities to perform the physically demanding role during the later seasons.[16] Sorbo made his final appearance as Hercules on Xena, in the Season Five episode "God Fearing Child", which aired in February 2000. In between his years playing Hercules, Sorbo played his first leading film role in the 1997 film Kull the Conqueror. In a mostly negative review, The New York Times writes, "Mr. Sorbo provides the requisite oiled torso, a hint of humor and the professionalism and good grace to act as if Kull the Conqueror mattered."[17] Post-Hercules work[edit] After Hercules ended, Sorbo played the starring role of Captain Dylan Hunt in the science-fiction drama series Andromeda from 2000 to 2005. In 2006, he played a recurring role on the final season of The O.C. In 2007, he starred in two direct-to-video sequels to Walking Tall, Walking Tall: The Payback and Walking Tall: Lone Justice. In the Hallmark Channel film Avenging Angel, he co-starred with his real wife, Sam Jenkins. In the 2008, he appeared in the spoof film titled Meet the Spartans, which was a box office success despite poor reviews.[18][19] Sorbo in 2013In the first of what would be several voice acting jobs, Sorbo performed one of the main protagonists, Prometheus, in the video game The Conduit.[20] He also reprised the role of Hercules in the video game God of War III and worked together with his wife on the game Cloudberry Kingdom.[21] In 2014, Sorbo co-starred in God's Not Dead, a Christian film in which he portrayed an atheist college professor who requires his students to disown their religions on the first day of his class.[22] Although heavily panned by critics, it was a commercial success and the first of a sequence of Christian films that Sorbo would produce or perform.[23][24][25] Sorbo appeared in the 2015 romantic comedy Single in South Beach, starring Haley Webb. On Twitter, in 2019, she accused Sorbo of sexual advances and of sexually harassing her on the set. However, Webb did not elaborate on any of her accusations, and he did not respond to her tweet.[26][27] In 2017, Sorbo directed and starred in the Christian drama film Let There Be Light, which featured conservative pundit Sean Hannity, who was also an executive producer. It was described by the New Yorker as "a cynical, xenophobic morality tale, as bitter as it is saccharine" that closes with "a dénouement of bald Islamophobia".[28][29] The Los Angeles Times, although critical, says that it provides "an involving bonanza" for its intended Christian audience. Sorbo is described as bringing "puckish charm and credible warmth to his role".[30] In 2023, he is set to appear in the Ronald Reagan biopic opposite Dennis Quaid who plays the title role.[31]

This week, Josh and Dru watch Penelope Spheeris' treatise on toxic masculinity, The Boys Next Door. From wiki: “The Boys Next Door is a 1985 American adventure-crime drama film about two teenage boys who leave their small town home on the day of their high school graduation and embark on a crime and murder spree. Roy Alston (Maxwell Caulfield) and Bo Richards (Charlie Sheen) are two outcasts of their high school community. Bo receives $200 as a graduation gift from his grandparents. Facing a lifetime of working blue collar factory jobs, the boys spontaneously decide to use the money to go on a vacation to Los Angeles.” Before that, they discuss To Die For, The Matt Dillon Renaissance including Little Darlings, Over the Edge, Asteroid City, and Lars Von Trier. Drusilla also watched The Chase from 1994. But also? Spookies! They discuss Spookies for the first time. Also, Motel Hell. Josh saw The Ants at Geffen Playhouse; a horror play that he loved. But Josh also watched some 80s werewolf movies: The Howling and Silver Bullet. This brings them to Gary Busey and The Buddy Holly Story. Also discussed: Grease 2, Suburbia, The Decline of Western Civilization Parts 1-3, Wayne's World, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Honeymoon Killers, Thelma and Louise, Avenging Angel, women directors of the 80s, Moon Unit Zappa, true crime podcasts, the whole Crispin Glover thing, Columbine, Empire Records, Badlands, Reform School Girls, and Vidiots. Adam and Eve; Michael, the Avenging Angel - but those aren't the most uncomfortable parts of the episode. We may have found out why there wasn't a Season 7!
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the podcast Matt and Doug swim for the safety of Cable Junction as a pissed off shark is out for (literal) blood. The final episode of season 8 goes way back to the era of disco with an appearance from the original Angel (not the Angel from Betamax Rewind fave Avenging Angel). Lots of housekeeping from the Rocketeer podcast. Matt decided one thing went "too far" and pulled it back. Matt gets a massage. Doug goes to a water park and shops at Dollar General. All that plus lots more as we plumb the depths of a much maligned sequel. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mattanddoug/message
Bug killer and transponster by day, Hollywood hookers by night. Matt and Doug was through the filth of 80s Hollywood Blvd. to see if a hooker can reform her ways. A podcast that is on the shorter side, which is sad because it is disrespectful to the source material. Matt screws up. Matt deals with depression. Doug complains for about two hours. Oscar caliber acting and writing. You'll laugh, you'll cry. You'll ask why this podcast isn't behind a Patreon or onlyfans paywall. No matter what you can't stop Avenging Angel. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mattanddoug/message
PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Deborah Voorhees (FRIDAY THE 13th PART 5, AVENGING ANGEL) has been one of the horror genre's favorite Scream Queens ever since her work on the infamous 5th installment of the Jason Voorhees (no relation) saga, a role made even more iconic by the music video for Wolfie's Just Fine's “A New Beginning” in 2016. Now Deborah is back in the director's chair for what could be her most personal work to date, a slasher film that delves into the world of stalkers and the trials of horror convention culture entitled 13 FANBOY. Her film boasts a “killer” cast (Dee Wallace, Corey Feldman, Kane Hodder, etc) and is already a huge hit on the Amazon charts! Deborah discusses how she started in the business, how 13 FANBOY was a passion project (not just for her but for many of the actors in her cast who regularly appear at cons), and the reasons she loves writing and directing even more than acting. Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” for a writer who is feeling ready to take the next step with their initial ideas and outlines.
This week is all about Warren Worthington III, which he would probably love to know. Warren grows up as a typical rich kid until his mutant abilities emerge and he grows giant wings. On that Tuesday, an angry mob murdered Elijah Lovejoy, the Presbyterian minister who was the founder of the Illinois State Anti-Slave Society. Two days later, some 500 miles east in Hudson Ohio, a church congregation held a memorial service to honor the murdered activist. Owen Brown opened the gathering with a long, tearful prayer. At its conclusion, there was a long silence. Then, in the back, Owen Brown’s son rose and, stiffly, raised his right hand, then vowed, “Here before God, in the presence of these witnesses, I consecrate my life to the destruction of slavery.” It was 37-year-old John Brown’s first public statement on the inflammatory issue and, as time would tell, his message and actions would be ominous. And yet, on that Tuesday and in that service, this was John Brown of Hudson, Ohio. It would take time and events to fully create the John Brown of “Bleeding” Kansas and Harpers Ferry. From crusader to Old Testament avenging angel, this is his story. ----more---- Some Characters Mentioned In This Episode: Gerrit Smith John Brown, Jr. William Lloyd Garrison Frederick Douglass John B. A self proclaimed Avenging Angel, Sheila LaBarre is a woman who used sex, manipulation and violence to get what she wanted. From an abusive childhood, Sheila rose from the ashes to become one of the most heinous female killers of modern times. Through years of practice, Sheila found the perfect type of victim, managing to strip them of their dignity and ultimately their lives. Mountain Murders explores the fascinating story of Sheila LaBarre with an intense study into her background and the making of a murderer.
High school honor student by day...and Hollywood hooker by night! This phrase is the central conceit of three films from the 1980s. Starting off with the very successful "Angel" from 1984, writer director Robert Vincent O'Neil created a rose-colored view of the life of a VERY young girl in Hollywood, California who had to turn to street-walking to pay the bills after her mother abandons her. We meet a wonderful cast of misfits who share the nighttime streets with her and also a sinister killer played by John Diehl who is murdering the girls, one by one. This is a solid bit of exploitation and was a big hit at the box office. It was SUCH a hit that the following year, the sequel "Avenging Angel" was released, with a new actor playing the title character but bringing back some of the key members of Angel's entourage. This was a middling success, with some great moments, but also with plenty of moments that fell flat. Still though, the second entry was more successful than the next in the series, 1988's "Angel 3 - The Final Chapter". With yet another actor playing Angel in this one, it is more "Miss" than "Hit" but still was an interesting conclusion to the series. With three films and our patented rambling, this episode is slightly longer than usual, but hopefully you will find plenty to enjoy. On this episode of Blunt Force Truth, Chuck and Mark are joined by Kevin Sorbo. Kevin returns to the show as he has been busy on the set of upcoming independent films and recently became more vocal about his conservative views. Chuck and Mark ask Kevin about being more vocal on Twitter when it comes to his conservative views. They discuss how conservative views can work their way back into entertainment and media industries. Kevin also explains how he has been fighting the battle and the roadblocks he has encountered. They also discuss how the left continues to push the narrative of America being a horrible place. Kevin explain how he has heard from people about how much better the United states are than where they came from. Almost three months after the end of Season One Wake Up Heavy is back with our Season Two opener on Martin Scorsese's gritty-seventies-existential-nihilistic masterpiece TAXI DRIVER. WUH welcomes back Mike White from The Projection Booth podcast for another stimulating discussion. http://www.projectionboothpodcast.com/ Powerful in its cinematic style and controversial in its depiction of violence, Paul Schrader's script and Scorsese's frenetic direction imbue the film with a mounting tension that ultimately explodes in a "kill crazy rampage." By the end happenstance turns Travis Bickle, our Avenging Angel. into the "Hero Cabbie." Robert DeNiro, in a role that has followed him through his career, leads a stellar cast including Cybil Shepherd, Albert Brooks, Peter Boyle, and, in one of five movies from 1976, 12 year-old Jodie Foster. Her role as a young prostitute was one of the more controversial aspects of the film, and would in turn inspire John Hinckley, Jr. to try and assassinate President Ronald Reagan.

Chuck and Mark are Joined by Kevin Sorbo for a great conversation on the politics in Hollywood. They start off by discussing Hollywood's hatred for conservatives and Christians, which Kevin explains is the reason that he has gone into independent filmmaking. Chuck and Kevin have both experienced Hollywood's decision to cut shows for no reason, other than one person doesn't like it. They explain how a select few individuals decide what the rest of the world will watch. Mark moves their conversation on to Kevin's film, God's not Dead, which landed in the top five dollar return for Hollywood films. Kevin explains that he could not get on any network, except Fox, to promote his faith-based film. Kevin explains the importance of small independent films and faith-based films. He shares how he has created his own production company and been able to get funding from people like Sean Hannity. They finish up their conversation by discussing how the progressive movement is destroying our country and that the truth is dangerous to their agenda. They discuss how the left is dividing our nation into groups and pitting them against each other. Kevin also jumps in to shares some of his thoughts about the far-left agenda that is appearing around our country. Minki’s been prepping for his big sketch comedy performance and Tracy has been cleaning up dead bunnies from her backyard, but that doesn’t stop them for doing what they do best...watching horror movies, retelling and assessing them. In this episode, they “cut their teeth” on discussing allegories for rape by diving right into the mouth of this subversive, counter-culture film. With motifs of “the avenging angel,” “rape revenge” and “the special gift” prominently used, this dark comedy horror features a lead character who goes from being an abstinent teen to an empowered woman who uses a certain special power to fight off the numerous hostile males in her life. The hosts discuss how the director wanted to make this film, based quite literally on a ridiculous urban legend, after the New Puritanism trends following 9/11 and while Tracy enjoys this feminist horror, Minki thinks it might’ve been done better if directed by a woman! Sooooo, next week they’ll watch Consommé...a short horror, made by a woman, about a woman who also fights against male antagonists.

We don't know about you, but at Broad Appeal we think that if you don't recycle, you deserve to die. And what a shame that this is the one murder that the brilliantly villainous Kathleen Turner doesn't get to commit in SERIAL MOM (1994)! Turner stars as wife, mother, and murderess, Beverly Sutphin, whose love of Barry Manilow is matched only by her lust for blood and common courtesy! Honestly, what kind of monsters don't rewind their VHS tapes? Is Beverly an Avenging Angel, or Ted Bundy's suburban concubine? Brian has managed to live his whole life without being exposed to the filth of John Waters, while his brand of self-aware-trash was what a young Seán lived on. Will they get a kick out of this highly quotable, tongue-in-cheek camp satire...? All clips from the film presented according to fair use policy.
