Put on your abstinence ring and head over to the local swimming hole because we're discussing Mitchell Lichtenstein's 2007 horror comedy Teeth! Join us as we go all in on this seemingly forgotten relic of the aughts, praising its handling of some admittedly difficult subject matter while masterfully balancing the tone without sacrificing sincerity. Plus: digging into Teeth's mishandled release, its 2024 off-Broadway musical adaptation and wondering why lead actress Jess Weixler never became the Parker Posey of her generation. Nichole is talking about 2008's Teeth, directed by Mitchell Litchenstein and starring Jess Weixler. The film centers around a character with a medical condition found only in folk tales and myths, but there is some relevant bits to the characters. There is also discussion of how disability and sexuality are portrayed generally, as well as in this film specifically. Want to recommend a film to be covered, or just reach out and say hello? In this episode of What's Your Limp? Jordan chats with actor Jess Weixler (Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Chained for Love, Fully Realized Humans). After attending Juilliard, Jess carved out a career for herself in the film industry that any actor would be envious of. The genres and types of projects that she's appeared in are as wide ranging as the characters she plays. Whether it's starring in a big budget western series alongside Pierce Brosnan (The Son), appearing in major studio films (It: Chapter Two) or developing her own indie projects (Fully Realized Humans), Jess can do it all. However, it hasn't all been smooth sailing. Jess opens up about navigating difficulties of being a woman in this industry (in terms of body standards, aging, motherhood, etc.) Be sure to follow Jess at @JessWeixler on Instagram.

Caitlin is joined by longtime friend Matt to discuss the cult classic Teeth. Matt is also a dentist, so how could we NOT do Teeth? This episode is really personal for me, as I talk at the end about a condition that I have called vaginismus/vulvodynia. Long story short: like Dawn in Teeth, my vagina sometimes feels inhospitable, and it's made for comlicated and painful moments in my life. We end up talking a lot about medical self-advocacy, and how important it is to feel comfortable with your healthcare providers. Go easy on me; it's a sensitive one.

Director Joshua Leonard (Elliott) and Screenwriter Jess Weixler's (Jackie) raucous and raw comedy FULLY REALIZED HUMANS they set out to blow-up the accepted wisdom that there is never a perfect time to have a baby. Jackie (Jess Weixler) and Elliott (Joshua Leonard) beg to differ. There will be a perfect time — just as soon as they've fixed all of their own issues and become the kind of people who won't screw up their own kids the way their parents screwed them up. Realizing that if they want to break their cycles of dysfunction once and for all, they'll have to confront their deepest fears and greatest shortcomings head-on. With less than a month until their due date, they embark on a madcap mission to become FULLY REALIZED HUMANS. This crusade will push them to the edge of sanity, forcing them to battle with themselves, each other, their friends, and even their families. When the smoke clears, they'll either be the world's greatest parents... or they'll be institutionalized. Director, co-writer and lead actor Joshua Leonard and co-writer and lead actor Jess Weixler join us to talk about the lightning quick turnaround for filming, working while pregnant and bringing together a talented supporting cast that includes Beth Grant, Tom Bower, Janizca Bravo, and Jennifer Lafleur. Opens July 30 via Gravitas Ventures on VOD For news and updates go to: fullyrealizedhumans.com
“Teeth,” “Somebody Up There Likes Me,” “Chained For Life,” “The Good Wife,” are just a few of the great Jess Weixler's credits. Ten years ago she co-stared in “The Lie” with Joshua Leonard. They played a couple with a baby and one big problem. He directed. Most of the dialogue came out of improvisation. Now they've done it again with “Fully Realized Humans.” They again play a couple. This time the baby is in utero and the laughs are bigger, the situations more absurd yet also more thought-provoking. Weixler is credited as co-writer. In this episode she details the improv method they used to build the dialogue out of the circumstances in the scene. We try to figure out what Leonard meant by “the phantom leg of naturalism,” and she talks about what it was like to film this indie comedy while 8 months pregnant, including one moment of empowerment prompted from an unlikely source. Plus lots more! Follow Back To One on Instagram

For this week's installment in Femme Fatale February, imagine this: you waddled into some video store and you need to pick a movie. You want to pick something empowering to womyn, because you aren't no scrub (also known as a "busta"). In this scenario, the alphabet is different and you see two options side by side, Teeth and Frankenhooker. Which do you choose? Teeth was written and directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein. It features Jess Weixler as Dawn O'Keefe, who just happens to have a Gilgamek vagina from South Park... y'know, lined with teeth. Weixler recently wrote and starred in Fully Realized Humans. Please see it and report back, because it seems to be a really interesting character study. Rather than ending up in Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, this poor girl just goes to Jesus parties and talks about abstinence. We didn't talk about this on the show, but I am dying to know what you think her X-Man-- X-Woman? Aha! X-Person name would be. Let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. Best submissions will get read on next week's episode. She is repeatedly victimized by the men in her life, though refreshingly not the one guy you would expect if you've ever seen a horror movie before. The main antagonist in the film is John Hensley as Brad. You may recall he was in Nip/ Tuck. Remember when that show was kinda like a thriller and then it just became gross and sad? Anyway, his mutation is being (and not having) a massive dick-- which you get to see onscreen! ...albeit mangled and bleeding. The other choice is Frankenhooker. I know, you are probably rolling your eyes, but let's have a candid discussion about it. This film was "written" by Bob Martin and Frank Henenlotter. I say "written," because Henenlotter has basically admitted that this movie had very little in terms of a script, yet somehow it provides pretty timeless social commentary and has structural elements like callbacks. You may know Henenlotter from the Basket Case trilogy. He is also a renowned cinema historian. If you are a fan of this show, please consider checking him out. He has some great interviews and can talk everything from pulp exploitation films to b-movie creature features. Frankenhooker stars James Lorinz as Jeffrey Franken. He is an electroengineer, blessed and cursed with brilliance, and seemingly doused in rotten luck. His fiancee, played by Patty Mullen, is Elizabeth Shelley/ the TITular Frankenhooker (see what I did there?). Sadly, her onscreen career was very short, with her only other film being Doom Asylum. She was a Penthouse playmate of the month and year though, so that's cool. When tragedy befalls Elizabeth, Jeffrey exploits working women, trying to harvest their parts to reconstruct the love of his life. Truly, a romantic masterpiece. Which is better? Which is more fun to watch? Which is more empowering to women? Which should you rent in this scenario? Listen, and find out! "It's true! Vagina dentata!" Damien is joined by his friend Nyari to find out why she thinks the horror-comedy film, Teeth (2007) is a film everyone should see. Directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein and starring Jess Weixler, John Hensley and Lenny von Dohlen, this film poses the question: What if vagina's evolved to have teeth? Think about how the world would change. How cultural ideas of power would change. But right at the end, Nyari makes a point that brings it all into perspective.Movies and television shows named in this episode: Teeth (2007) The Incredibles (2004) Content note: This episode includes discussion of rape and sexual violence. This week on Total Movie Recall, one man's fun trash is another man's not-fun trash. Steve gets typically indignant at Ryan's casual, cruel dismissal of somebody's labor of love, and Ryan reaches heretofore unplumbed depths of his warped psyche, exploring the lingering effects of watching movies like Killer Klowns at too tender of an age. This is what happens when a little boy lets teenage girls bully him into watching movies. Ryan's therapist has her work cut out for her this week. Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) d. Roadside Attractions released Teeth to theaters on April 3, 2008. Mitchell Lichtenstein directs the film which stars Jess Weixler, John Hensley, and Josh Pais. The post Teeth (2007) appeared first on Movie House Memories.
This week we are so lucky to have actor, writer, and director Jess Weixler on the program. Most people know her from her breakout role in the 2007 film, Teeth. But she has a new movie out called Chained for Life. In it she stars opposite Adam Pearson, who some may remember from Under The Skin. And the movie she chose to discuss is Tod Browning's infamous 1932 film, Freaks. Jess reflects on her own experiences working and living with people with disabilities. She touches upon the experience of acting with Adam and other actors with facial differences. April and she also crack open whether or not Freaks is an offensives film. And they try to tackle the fine line between exploitation and celebration. This is a truly enthralling conversation that is entertaining, funny, and very heartfelt. If you are attending Fantastic Fest this year in Austin, go check out Jess' movie Chained For Life. And if you haven't seen it yet, go watch on Freaks With April Wolfe with Jess Weixler You can let us know what you think of Switchblade Sisters at @SwitchbladePod on Twitter. For Valentine's Day we offer up a triple feature of being snared by love for new release ENTANGLEMENT. This Thomas Middleditch and Jess Weixler starring romcom reminds us of the manic pixie dream girl trope and how it can be subverted with a seriously manic male lead, be it Bradley Cooper in SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK or David Thewlis in ANOMALISA. One of your hosts also convinces the other one to not do a Valentine's Day first time watch with the wife of Weixler's breakout film TEETH. And hear Kenneth Branagh talk about his classically cinematic approach to CINDERELLA while Virginia Madsen addresses the importance of acting coaches and the training of the "vocal instrument." http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

We end up with some really interesting perspectives from two first time directors. Plus we hear about getting people like Megan Mullally, Will Forte and Jeffrey Tambor involved in a smaller, independent film like theirs. And as we reminisce about the nut cheese, we also discuss… getting arrested, Hannibal Lecter, protecting your cloud persona, a giant baseball bat, a broke-ass actor, the bruises faded around my neck, dramedy, dealing arms and running a white slavery ring, being an astronaut, the narcissus and the cheerleader, shooting a cashew in the face, she couldn’t even find the water, the golden age of television, having to let things go, being a teenaged vampire, The Odd Couple, stop doing it that way… it’s terrible, Withnail and I, whispering each other’s ears, Elmore Leonard, a very strange, circuitous path, I don’t think I have a filthy cloud, we’re all really snowflakes people, constant shock and awe, Alexander the Last, Dumb and Dumber, creating art, breathing on the phone, someday I’m gonna drop dead, so I might as well do whatever the heck I wanna do… while I have time, save the drama for the screen, I stole your line in a fight, the most awesome cat, The Good Wife, having training wheels, can we give you sixty bucks to hang out with us for the next hour and a half, it wound up being more meaningful then I ever imagined, then I pulverize them with my fists and eat them for dinner, SpaceCamp, co-dependant love, dripping popsicles, I think my dead cat made this movie, trying to put the right people together, Life of Crime, dancing on the subway and latex misunderstanding. “Get a dead cat spirit to speak to rich people… and that’s how you make a movie.”
Movie Meltdown - Episode 254 As we enter into our 6th annual holiday “special”, we embark on a conversation that at times will stray into the weird and ridiculous. At some point we use the phrase “beautifully awkward conversation”- and that most definitely applies to this episode. In fact, you’ll hear things that you would only ever hear on "Movie Meltdown". Movie Meltdown - Episode 201 So we've featured many interviews with actors and filmmakers over the years, but this week we change things up a little as WE ourselves are interviewed. We welcome Emily from "The Courier Journal" who asks us to try to explain, just what "Movie Meltdown" is exactly. Then we fall right back into our usual discussion mode as we talk about this week's Sofa Theater feature "The Lie". Directed by Joshua Leonard, and starring Joshua and our beloved (adopted cast member) Jess Weixler. And as we wax philosophic about our own existence, we also mention... the awkwardness is excruciating, a soul-crushing job, so douchey, best drip so far, indie genre cliches, voyeurism, a weekend camping, people going to their futile jobs, the Clair Huxtable look, editing the movie, the waitress at the diner, InstaGram coloration, The Blair Witch Project, Allison Anders, these hash browns are amazing, I love Portland... I met an owl there once, maybe it's just your head and what do you do when you give yourself a day off? Spoiler Alert: "The Lie" has a MAJOR spoiler moment in it, so watch it beforehand for spoiler-free listening. Plus Fred spoils the end of "The Return of Martin Guerre". You have been warned!! "It's not really about the lie." - "But which lie is it?"
