Hello THWTP fans! This week life-partners Dave and Tom go on a poopie flinging adventure with a trio of the good, the bad and the fugly.Dave goes on the attack as these were mostly Tom's suggestions, with our first fan request! First off is the lowest ranking A24 film of all time, woah! It's the return of Brandy baby! The Front Room (2024), directed by the brothers Eggers, Max and Sam. Next is a fan requested regional horror thing called Bring Me a Skin for Dancing In (2024), directed by Randy Kent. And finally it's a modern French take on the Rape / Revenge genre with Revenge (2017) directed by Coralie Fargeat of The Substance fame. Enjoy!
The Dreadcast is back and Nick is doing well in his probation for the show! Ontop of that, the dreadful duo look to tackle a film that proceeded arguably 2024's best movie The Substance. We are Vanity Project, whom no man will ever possess! We would be only too happy to become world dictators if only to fulfill our mission: the destruction of the last vestigial traces of traditional manhood in the race to realign the sexes, thus reducing population, while increasing human happiness and preparing humanity for its next stage. Charles and Laura are back with a bookish transvestigation of none other than the book that sent shockwaves through 1968, 'Myra Breckinridge'. Gore Vidal's incisive and divisive novel on the perils of modern media, Hollywood, and the Rape Revenge trope. This countercultural expedition through gender subversion asks and answers all of Vanity Project's core questions, and demands that they make their stance on circumcision public. Violation is a different take on the rape revenge subgenre, and it asks the viewer to sit with discomfort, gray areas, and realism. There aren't perfect victims or perfect perpetrators, and betrayal, rage, justice, and gore all read a little different in this one - in a way that really sticks with you. Tangents include: wigs, bookmarks, Nickachu, artificial sweeteners, and 2023 horror rankings as they stand so far. Be sure to check out all the great shows on the Zombie Grrlz network!
It's our season finale! What better way to celebrate than with Tom's favorite genre: the Rape-Revenge film! Starting off… Everyone knows the name! Everyone's afraid of it! Buster Keaton's granddaughter gets attacked by a gang o' long pubes in director Zierig Zurry Zoo-Zoo's I Spit on Your Grave. Next, things get heated when Dave and Tom throw down with their very different opinions on the controversial micro budget nasty Chaos (aka The Deadly Hostage) directed by David Defalco. Finally the cat fight carries over for some straight man realness in Blood Games by Tanya Rosenberg! A movie about tiddies, baseball and REVENGE! Also: Dave thinks it's 2002! Tom turns on his google machine! A bad grinder hook up! Too old for these movies! Camille Keaton gives great revenge! Tom declares legendary status! Dave has a helpful suggestion for the rapists! Tom thinks the nipples are on point! And titties, titties, titties, titties, titties, titties! Thank you to our loyal fans for 10 great episodes! Season 2 Episode 32 This is a topic I am still thinking about the nuts and bolts. To be clear, fictional murder, aka death as a significant storytelling tool and violence as a symbolic device in fiction, is what intrigues me, more so because of the project I am working on but also in general. Film: The Woman King (2022) Youtube video referenced: Rape Revenge & Promising Young Woman| Realism vs Catharsis - Princess Weekes I spoil nothing in the film and in the youtube video. I do share my general thoughts and reference some themes and media it reminds me of though. Twitter: YsaPlatform

Trigger Warning: This episode contains discussions of sexual assault and rape. We're tackling one of the most divisive horror sub-genres ever - the rape-and-revenge movie. Hopelessly misogynistic or empowering, feminist diatribes? We try to get to the bottom of what these stories say about the world we live in. Contains discussions of Ms. 45 (1981), I Spit on Your Grave a.k.a Day of the Woman (1978), Motor Psycho! (1965), The Virgin Spring (1960), The Last House on the Left (1972), Baise-moi (2000), Monster (2003), Revenge (2017) and more.
Just the feel good genre you want to hear two guys talk about right? The boys ponder why there is anything else left to be said, outside of subversions, about this most distasteful of genres. Not a particular chucklefest.
A content warning to all of our listeners: we're discussion rape revenge movies, their history, and their place in our current cultural environment. Which may not be the discussion for you! We look at the genre's beginnings and how women in film are reclaiming it to make their own statements. Homework for the episode: The Last House on the Left (1972, dir. Wes Craven); Revenge (2017, dir. Coralie Fargeat); Promising Young Woman (2020, dir. Emerald Fennell) The article Martha reads from: https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/how-promising-young-woman-refigures-the-rape-revenge-movie

How does Emerald Fennell's brutal new film Promising Young Woman fulfill–and disrupt–our expectations of a rape revenge story? What itches get scratched by that genre anyway? Are those stories even the right way to understand why this movie is getting so many viewers' panties in a twist?

Fuck. This was a heavy episode. But art --which includes movies-- forces us to see the ugliness in this world, sometimes. Good movies, no matter how difficult the subject matter, force us to see, face, and conquer that ugliness. Creators find this process therapeutic. Viewers find it entertaining. Sometimes, it's triggering for everybody. So... consider this your trigger warning, as we discuss rape revenge movies in this episode. We're grateful to have Australian filmmaker, Nate Hill, join us again to discuss his movie, "Fox Force", and other notable movies in this genre. Rape itself is horrific. Since rape epitomizes the ugliest side of sex and horror, which side does rape revenge fall on? Is rape revenge psychotic violence or is it consequential justice? Is it empowering or criminalizing? Are the films glorifying violence or glorifying the characters' taking back their power? How far is too far in this genre? As a way to educate and inform here, we also discuss consent and where it ends. Though not as light as some of our previous episodes, we cover rape revenge films as freely and as openly as we cover everything else, and we hope you enjoy this discussion as well. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sexandhorror/message

In this episode (originally released as an episode of Queer Horror Cult), Lori takes a look at Wes Craven's banned video nasty debut, "The Last House on the Left" (1972), and the permutations of, including Ingmar Bergman's "The Virgin Spring" (1960), "The Last House on the Left" (2009) remake, and another video nasty that follow the plot closely, "Night Train Murders" (1975). Continuing the trek through the 72 banned movies on the official video nasty list, enjoy a look at some truly difficult-to-sit-through films!
This week Gutter Flicks returns as Lori delves into two very similar video nasties that definitely make for uncomfortable viewing. Films discussed include "The Last House on the Left" (1972), "The Virgin Spring" (1960), "The Last House on the Left" (2009), and "Night Train Murders" (1975).WARNING: This episode deals with sexual violence.Audio clip from "The Last House on the Left" (1972) trailer. In this sermon on Genesis 34-35-7, we see how God worked through tragic sins both against and within Jacob's family to bring him to repentance.
Brian and Shelly discuss rape revenge films including Revenge, Ms 45, and The Virgin Spring

The Ghouls school you on how to watch media critically and the importance of being deliberate with what you create. Ok this isnt going to be a nice episode but it needs to be done. and to make it safer the female side of us miss danae dunning so listen to us as we dissect the subgenre.
Rape Revenge films are perhaps the most replete with conflict for conscientious audience members who find themselves, for one reason or another, drawn to them. Whether people feel comfortable admitting it or not, this especially dark and often nasty subgenre is a lucrative one, with thousands of imitations and similar stories released worldwide. A discussion on Rape-Revenge as it pertains to 2017's M.F.A. and horror films in general. We also cover our favorites and not-so-favorites of the sub-genre as well as the various details which make up the topic of sexual assault. Lots covered, so get settled.
While young women are usually portrayed as victims of some heinous crime in many horror films, this theme acts as the center of the plot in most revenge films. However, they let the audience live vicariously as tables are turned against the assailant by the hands of those scorned. There's no room for legal justice here. Revenge is a dish best served with brutality and gore and all packaged up with an ending that makes you feel the world is balanced once again.

Episode 5: On this episode we talk one of the most controversial sub genres in film rape revenge. The movies we cover are Ms.45, Thrillers a Cruel Picture, and I Spit on your Grave.
Minki’s been prepping for his big sketch comedy performance and Tracy has been cleaning up dead bunnies from her backyard, but that doesn’t stop them for doing what they do best...watching horror movies, retelling and assessing them. In this episode, they “cut their teeth” on discussing allegories for rape by diving right into the mouth of this subversive, counter-culture film. With motifs of “the avenging angel,” “rape revenge” and “the special gift” prominently used, this dark comedy horror features a lead character who goes from being an abstinent teen to an empowered woman who uses a certain special power to fight off the numerous hostile males in her life. The hosts discuss how the director wanted to make this film, based quite literally on a ridiculous urban legend, after the New Puritanism trends following 9/11 and while Tracy enjoys this feminist horror, Minki thinks it might’ve been done better if directed by a woman! Sooooo, next week they’ll watch Consommé...a short horror, made by a woman, about a woman who also fights against male antagonists.
We carefully discuss that most difficult of horror sub-genres, the rape-revenge film. We limit our discussion to the classics--I Spit On Your Grave, Last House on the Left, and the source for Last House, Bergman's Virgin Spring--as well as the newest variation, 2016's award-winning Elle. Tom follows up with another chapter in his revenge series with a look at the highly controversial sub genre of films known as Rape Revenge. We’ll ponder films like "The Virgin Spring," "I Spit on Your Grave" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" while discussing their place in cinematic entertainment.
