National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Kirsten Fenswick of The Incubator of FOX TV Studios, on August 29, 2007 - Part 3. The producer was looking for polygamous families to produce a documentary. Prior to the interview, Mark Henkel had informed the producer that past situations with FOX had caused families in UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, to distrust it as a "Manufactured News Corporation." As she made what Mark Henkel identified as a "Circus Act Request" ("C.A.R."), the producer then defaulted to Mormon Polygamy. Again, Mark Henkel corrected her to move beyond stereotype. Finally, Mark Henkel Henkel explained the problem, “Putting a family on display, like a creature under glass or behind a zoo cage, is nothing more than a 'Circus Act' to make people go 'Oo and Ah!' – and at the end of the day, never changes political opinion for us.” The final, remaining part of this interview will be aired in the next coming episode of this podcast. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
Mike and John discuss the timeline and cultural context surrounding Joseph Smith at the time he claims to receive the revelation on polygamy which became canonized and is still considered scripture for many modern Mormon branches, some who still practice it today, and even ones who don't, like the largest Mormon branch headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was post-interviewed a second time by Zehra Mamdani for Columbia News Service, on March 4, 2008. This is Part 10 of the second post-interview. It follows after an article she had written as a student for the Columbia News Service, from interviews she had conducted with Mark Henkel earlier in January, 2008. After the article had contained many negativities that needed to be corrected, Mark Henkel requested of the writer to conduct an initial post-interview on February 26, 2008 - to which she agreed. The two also agreed to have a second post-interview later, which they conducted on March 4, 2008. This episode is the tenth part of that second discussion. In this Part 10 segment, Mark Henkel clarified a reference that had been attributed to a deputy sheriff. Mark Henkel noted that that man was only familiar with Mormon Polygamy and that the man knew nothing about any other forms of UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. The writer declared, "Next!" In the minds of most, polygamy seems like an immoral practice—particularly in the modern era. However, most would be surprised at how common and legal the practice still is today. Listen to this short episode and you'll be surprised at who actually doesn't practice polygamy, which religions do allow it, and the amazingly high number of countries that have legalized it.

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was on "John Stossel Special Report" for "20/20" on ABC News, on July 18, 2008, during prime time television hours. The hour-long special looked into how big government over-reaches into what consenting adults do. This 7-minute segment, focusing on polygamy, made its fourfold-purpose clear. One, show that polygamy is not exclusively based on Mormon Polygamy (and that that idea is a myth). Two, show other forms of polygamy in a modern context. Three, show that UCAP (Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy) is about unrelated consenting adults making private choices of UCAP for themselves that work for them. Four, show that UCAP polygamy has nothing to do with criminals and cults that also supposedly "involve polygamy" as otherwise sensationalized and misreported by manufactured news corporations. Mark Henkel was identified as the "National Polygamy Advocate." The segment includes interviews with a Christian polygamous husband and two wives from the TruthBearer.org Organization that Mark Henkel founded. The episode also includes a separate polygamous family, a man with two of his four wives from the African Hebrew Israelites. As well, the episode presents an academic from the University of Georgia, Professor Patricia Dixon, explaining the positivity of the women's choice element for those who choose it. Peter Sprigg declared the Family Research Council's (FRC) anti-polygamy bias. Mark Henkel follows-up to that bias, making a powerful refutation to the assertion that polygamy is sup'osedly immoral: "If they're saying that that's immoral, they're calling the greatest heroes in the Bible they believe in — they're calling them immoral. They're saying that Abraham, with his three wives, was immoral. Jacob had four wives. David had seven known named wives before Bathsheba." This interview provides many excellent soundbites, including Mark Henkel's renowned "That's insane!" reference to Hugh Hefner's then-current popular reality TV show of "3 live-in girlfriends" that would otherwise make him a "criminal" if he actually married them. This episode is a must-hear presentation, and it is provided for the purpose of archiving for history. It is also presented in honor, legacy, and memory of both the husband and of one of his wives from the TruthBearer.org Organization who had both passed away only a few months apart in 2020. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
Brian Hales, a leading scholar in LDS Polygamy (otherwise known as Mormon Polygamy), sits down with Jake for a heart-to-heart on his learning about polygamy, his study into polygamy, and why he chooses to stay an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as the Mormon Church or LDS Church). Learning about the polygamous history in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints might cause you to ask a lot of very important questions. The same happened for Brian Hales. And when Brian started his studies, very little information existed on the topic. Brian then dedicated decades to researching all of the facts and went on to publish multiple books and articles about his findings. Brian has chosen to stay in the Church of Jesus Christ, despite all of the faith-challenging information about polygamy and Joseph Smith's practice of polygamy. Podcast Introduction: Keep in mind that on January 4, 2021, Utah will enter its 125th year as a state in the union (1896-2021). This was no small accomplishment, as it took the Territory of Utah forty-seven years to be granted equal status among the previous forty-four states. When the deal was finally closed for Utah, perhaps no other individual was more responsible for this accomplishment than George Q. Cannon (1827-1901). In this podcast historian Ken Cannon discussing GQC, his early life, his building of Utah's largest 19th century media apparatus (newspapers, magazines and books), his years serving Utah in Washington, D.C., and how the Mormon patriarch closed the deal in making Utah the 46th state to join the union.Perhaps equally as important, and a bit more eye catching, are the related accomplishments of Cannon's three oldest sons, John Q., Abraham H. and Frank J.; all of whom played vital roles in Utah's last ten years toward statehood. One as polygamy stalwart in the LDS Church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (Abraham), one as Utah's first senator, followed by becoming the most damaging anti-Mormon campaigner in the early 20th century (Frank), and finally, the oldest son (John), groomed to replace his father, but instead fell out of grace in a post Manifesto adulterous relationship that ended with the death of one of Mormonism's most promising young woman's leaders. As a Cannon family member, Ken Cannon—who is a decedent of three family lines—has taken an honest historical aim at GQC three oldest sons, offering a detailed and candid assessment of both their noteworthy accomplishments (both in Utah and in the nation's capital), as well as their solicitous and publically embarrassing actions. Actions that only scions of one of Mormonism most powerful leading families could have done, and to a lesser or greater degree, gotten away with.Cannon and Westwood also discuss Cannon's work at unlocking the 140 year mystery concerning the famous yet little understood photographs—possibly the most emblematic images regarding the federal response to Mormon polygamy—the C. R. Savage's photographs of prison uniform cladded Mormon polygamists, serving time in the Utah Territorial Prison while the venerable George Q. Cannon (dubbed "the Mormon premier") presided among them.
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed for The National Post, a national Canadian newspaper out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on July 16, 2001, by a Reporter named, Nate. Just under 1 hour and 20 minutes, this interview was conducted in the pre-9/11 era of the Tom Green trial and sentencing. This was one of the earlier media interviews, back when collecting details for each one was still being learned and systematized. This comprehensively educational interview provided Mark Henkel's explanation of "the Tom Green problem" and the "daddy-daughter dynamic," Henkel's soundbite that "Christian polygamy does not mean Mormon Polygamy and polygamy does not mean Mormon," the history of the Christian Polygamy movement, the several Biblical argumentations, Henkel's separate home church unconnected to the movement, the history of early polygamy websites in the movement (and against it) back then when the first original owners owned such sites, the emergence of force polygamy and how the standard of love-not-force solved that problem, and so much more. Mark Henkel even delineated the ancestries of Moses' two wives (the Shemitic Abrahamic Midiantess and the Hamitic Cushite wife). As well, Mark Henkel gave a soundbite lyric from a song he had written back then, saying, "Too many Mommies, all alone / Raisin' babies, no daddy at home." Henkel also declared, "The Tom Green case is really as destructive for us as Tim MacVeigh was for the militia movement." Mark Henlel gave the historic soundbite, "The problem that Tom Green is creating is the potential of the anti-polygamist propaganda that is about to unleash a reign of terror on good, solid, polygamous families that are not configured in any way like the Tom Green case." Lastly, Mark Henkel concluded, "We want to get the word out that polygamy does NOT mean what these things are." The Reporter replied, "You've done a very good job of that, getting out the word to me, anyway." Repeating that same sentiment a number of times throughout the interview, the Reporter concluded emphatically saying, "I very much appreciate talking to you, Mark. It has been extremely illuminating." http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Emily Friedman for ABC News on September 13, 2007. The reporter was respectful and positive throughout this 40-minute interview, even enjoying mutual laughter together. Mark Henkel provided her with an extensive education about UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, the various forms, i.e., Christian Polygamy, Mormon Polygamy, Jewish Polygamy, Muslim Polygamy, and Secular Polygamy. He detailed numerous Biblical argumentations used by the new Christian Polygamy movement, explained the adamant opposition to criminals and cults (such as Tom Green, Warren Jeffs and the FLDS), and offered many important soundbites. He even gave his renowned soundbite about the powerful lesson from Orwell's book, "1984," regarding how people often "commit an act of insanity in order to keep their sanity." This episode is certainly one of the more succinctly informative interviews for those seeking a helpfully definitive education on the topic. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was POST-interviewed on November 27, 2006, AFTER an article by the Associated Press (the AP Newswire) published nationwide on November 24, 2006. **This MUST-HEAR Interview*** is the third of 3 podcast audios regarding this article written by Reporter Jennifer Dobner. This interview discussed Mark Henkel's reaction and feedback on the interview, noting his observation of the need to help correct the AP Stylebook on the issue of reporter's needing to be allowed to differentiate "Mormon Polygamy" as a term, because of the mainstream "Mormons controlling the AP Stylebook." Mark Henkel gave the sound-bite, "The problem is, because the Mormon institution is controlling the definition, you can't say 'Non-Mormon Polygamist' because you can't say 'Mormon Polygamist.'" This point re-affirmed the connection to the past interviews, over the previous several months, with this same AP Reporter, in which Mark Henkel had persistently and repeatedly sought to get the AP Newswire's reports to clarify that UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, normal pro-polygamists around the country, had never (and always have never) had anything to do with the criminals or cults such as Warren Jeffs and the FLDS. This 3rd of these 3 podcast audios here reveals the friendly, professional, and even mutually laughing rapport between the reporter and Mark Henkel. The Reporter agreed that it made sense to move forward in exploring how to get such accuracy changes into the AP Stylebook, for the purpose of ensuring better brevity. She said, "It is a quagmire, I agree... ...I think it's a valid point... ...That's a really good suggestion, I'm writing it all down." She later concluded, "Everything you say is good fodder for another story." For more information about these 3 audios, listeners will want to be sure to also listen to the 1st and 2nd of these three podcast audios, posted in the previous 2 podcast episodes before this one. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Stephanie Baker of NBC 17 WNCN-TV of Raleigh, North Carolina, conducted via satellite in the studio of NBC 6 WCSH-TV in Portland, Maine, on November 29, 2007. The pre-interview occurred on November 7, 2007, with the follow-up call on the next day. The recording did not pick up the audio of the reporter's questions in the final interview recorded for television. However, Mark Henkel's answers make it self-evident what was being asked. As NBC's Faith & Values Reporter, Stephanie Baker sought to inform an audience in the southern "Bible Belt" geography about the new movement of Christian Polygamy that had/has no connection to Mormon Polygamy at all. This interview provided numerous powerful soundbites, incuding the following: "There is no such thing in the history of the universe of anybody ever escaping from polygamy. Thats about as ridiculous as saying somebody escaped from monogamy. People escape abuse. They escape cults. And as normal consenting adult pro-polygamists around the country, our hearts have gone out to every single person who has suffered abuse. Unfortunately, they transform that abuse that they suffered at the hand of a cult, or suffered at the hand of abuse, and they turn around and they say, 'ALL polygamists did that.' But that's like trying to blame all Christianity for someone who comes out of a cult, say, the Jonestown cult of 30 years ago." http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed on August 15, 2006, by Dan Lattin, a freelance writer for various publications who had formerly been the Religion Writer for the San Francisco Chronicle and its Sunday Magazine. Published by Harper Collins, the writer is also an author of books about religion, faith, and spirituality. (See DonLattin.com.) This interview occurred 5 months after HBO's premiere of its fictional TV show, "Big Love," about a Mormon Polygamous family. Even so, the writer had done his homework and was aware of the difference between Mormon Polygamy and Christian Polygamy - even knowing about the latter's official standard of "Love-Not-Force." For this interview, the writer was deliberately gathering in-depth information about Christian Polygamy for an essay/article that he would be independently pitching to such various other publications, including Vanity Fair. This hour-long interview provides a comprehensive education about the movement, about its arguments and history, as well as about Mark Henkel himself (even about his church experience and background). Regarding the scriptural and political arguments Mark Henkel makes for Christian Polygamy, the writer himself even positively proclaimed, "I actually think you DO have a very good argument. I mean it's kind of hard to refute your argument." http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Elise Soukup, for Newsweek magazine, on March 2, 2006, for an article later published in the March 20, 2006, issue, titled, "Polygamists, Unite!" This 90-minute interview provided a comprehensive education of the principles and history of Christian Polygamy, the standard of Love-not-Force, the movement of UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, and how such various other forms of polygamy are each different from the doctrines and backgrounds of Mormon Poygamy. Using his "sunny day vs rainy day" analogy, Mark Henkel detailed how the word, "polygamy," is a neutral noun that will have different premises, paradigms, and presuppositions based on the different adjectives that modify it - whether Christian Polygamy, Jewish Polygamy, Muslim Polygamy, Mormon Polygamy, etc. Mark Henkel also elaborated on the three modern-day US Supreme Court decisions that make anti-polygamy anti-constitutional, and he also provided the history of the 1878 "Reynolds v. United States" anti-polygamy decision that was the "real slippery slope" that led to -and would cause- the legalization of same sex marriage (which did happen later in 2015). He said in this 2006 interview that, after same sex marriage does get legalized, conservatives should re-discover their conservative values of limited government and thereby embrace the polygamists' solution to end the marriage debate. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Rasheed Oluwa, for The Poughkeepsie Journal, in Poughkeepsie, New York, on April 16, 2003, for an article published on April 28, 2003, titled, "In marriage, three's a crowd -- and a crime." That article was written for a "Crime Beat" section of the newspaper, regarding a local story of a man (who had not yet divorced one wife before marrying another) who had been charged with bigamy in New York. In this educational interview, Mark Henkel defined bigamy (as a a legal term for all "Secondary" marriages under law) vs. polygamy, secret or "dishonest bigamy" (unconsented fraud) vs. "honest polygamy" (consented choice), Christian Polygamy vs. Mormon Polygamy, the deep pschyological challenge for people when they first learn about unrelated consenting adult polygamy, how people often commit acts of "insanity to retain their sanity" as illustrated via a lesson-example from George Orwell's book, "1984", how normal polygamists always and adamantly opposed the criminals of Tom Green and the kidnappers of Elizabeth Smart in Utah, how the media make money by only reporting sensationalism and not the regular stories of normal polygamists not committing crimes, and many more argumentations too. (For historical reference, this interview took place before the Lawrence v. Texas decision by the US Supreme Court, later that year, on June 26, 2003.) As this interview was so comprehensive, the reporter himself even responded a number of separate times, by saying, "Cool!" http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed for The Boston Herald by Jessica Heslam, in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 9, 2006. The new fictional TV show called, "Big Love," had been successfully running on HBO during the previous weeks - so successfully that the network had then reported its authorization to begin recording for a second season. The interview with this reporter seemed to be positive. She asked genuinely good questions. "Is the show an accurate account of polygamy?" "What myths does it dispel?" "Has the show done more harm than good, or more good than harm?" Mark Henkel provided numerous insights, including how the modern LDS try to get media to not accurately differentiate Mormon Polygamy from other polygamy, by removing the adjective "Mormon" so that reports sound like they are reporting about "all" polygamists in general. Mark Henkel explained that, if the polygamy comes from (and uses) the theology (and doctrines) from the Book of Mormon (and Mormonism), then it is Mormon Polygamy no matter how much the LDS institution does not like to admit that fact. Despite such positivity and deep education given in this interview, the eventual article, published on May 14, 2006, propagandized otherwise, titled as, "Hit show gets to dark heart of polygamy." Despite having interviewed the leading, established national expert on the topic, and using no other credible sources and anti-polygamists who only know about cult-based & Mormon Polygamy experiences, the hostile article made no differentiation. The resulting article only referenced Mark Henkel as "one expert" without even mentioning his name, the organization, the national movement, or the differentiation of the evarious forms of UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. The article was clearly an exactly-provable example of what would be known in punditries of the 2010s as "Fake News," and it explicitly illustrates why Mark Henkel originated in the 2000s, the term, "Manufactured News Corporations" (or, "Manufactured News outlets"), to describe how these kinds of false reports get published to continue false propaganda. No rational listener of this interview could come to the conclusion of the resulting article. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed for The Arizona Republic by Linda Valdez, in Phoenix, Arizona, on July 3, 2006. The reporter, having written previous articles about the Mormon polygamists in what Mark Henkel calls the "Mormonland bubble" of Utah/Arizona, was rather biased in her thereby thinking that "all" polygamy is supposedly associated with the crimes of the criminal cult FLDS, Warren Jeffs, and Tom Green from the previous years. She learned much from this extensive education on many related issues. Mark Henkel definitively differentiated the difference between Mormon Polygamy vs Christian Polygamy and how other different forms of polygamy are defined by their respective applicable adjectives. He also expained how, despite the "mainstream LDS" demands that media obey their religious institution and not use the word "Mormon" to identify Mormon Polygamy (to instead call them as the unmodifed term, "polygamist"), doing that is a false description that wrongly and misleadingly suggests that all other forms of UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, supposedly also do whatever the crimes those media stories are reporting. Numerous arguments about polygamy in the Bible were explained. The "Polygamy Rights Win-Win Solution" to end the marriage debate was expained. And Mark Henkel detailed how de-criminalizing polygamy for junrelated consenting adults can pro-actively give victims of other real crimes the freedom to openly and safely report those crimes without fear that their polygamous familes could still be destroyed by law enforcement. This hour-plus interview unquestionably provides any listener with a comprehensive education about the issues. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed for KIFI LocalNews8 by Karole Honas on April 25, 2006, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Recorded as a "phoner" during the premiere season of HBO's show, Big Love, the veteran tv journalist was seeking both information and soundbites for news "packages" that would appear over two or three nights of the local news network. She was thoroughy fascinated to learn of the new movement of Christian Polygamy, and that it is unconnected to Mormon Polygamy. Clarifying that, even though non-polygamous LDS do not like the "Mormon"-word being attached to Mormon Polygamists, Mark Henkel gave the soundbite, "If it's based on the Book of Mormon, it's Mormon Polygamy." The journalist was very positive, professional, and friendly throughout the interveiw. She even proclaimed, "I'm beginning to wonder if evangelical Christians might not be onto something. You're definitely very protective of no abuse, no children marriage, no forced-to-go brides." As she explained how her Eastern Idaho audience was "mostly LDS," she declared, "I am personally not LDS, I'm Methodist. Like I said, I'm 50 years old, I've gone through the feminist movement. There are arguments that you're making that make total sense to me." http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
On this episode, a fight breaks out between the Carthaginians and the Mormons of Nauvoo. Olive Amanda Smith Fullmer filed an affidavit charging her partner, Milton Cook, with bastardy (abandonment) and the Mormon Sheriff, Horace Eldridge, is granted a warrant for Cook’s arrest. When Eldridge arrives in Carthage, he’s confronted by the citizens and unable to serve the warrant. He returns to Nauvoo and gathers a posse of Nauvoo Legionnaires, including Stephen Markham, to descend on Carthage and affect the arrest once and for all. The ensuing confrontation creates chaos and pandemonium and the local media outlets battle it out in print for determining what actually happened. National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed for CNS News by Randy Hall on March 6, 2006, for an article, published on March 16, 2006, titled, "Polygamy Is 'Next Civil Rights Battle,' Activists Say." The call letters, "CNS," stand for Cybercast News Service; and, it is one of the most well-known conservative-based news services, founded by L. Brent Bozell of his conservative organization, Media Research Center (MRC). After finding Mark Henkel's well-known soundbite, "Polygamy Rights is the Next Civil Rights Battle," Staff writer and Editor Randy Hall sought to report about it. He interviewed Mark Henkel to find out if there was a connection between that soundbite, the polygamy rights movement, and the 2003 statement from Senator Rick Santorum (about how the "right to privacy" argument in the 2003 Lawrence v. Texas case would make it unconstitutional to still ban polygamy). What he learned was de-criminalization, the "true conservative limited government" position, the Biblical arguments, how Christian Polygamy is not the same as Mormon Polygamy, how the "liberal activist judges" of the 1878 Supreme Court concocted a nationwide marriage control precedent with Reynolds v. United States that would never survive a 10th Amendment challenge in the States, and so much more. Purposely using the exactly-targeted conservative-based commonplace terminology and rhetoric that conservatives and Christians exclusively recognize and use themselves, Mark Henkel's answers serendipitously transformed this interview into becoming one of the most comprehensive and persuasive interviews by to which to specifically and successfully persuade conservatives and Christians about UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
Pedogamy & Mormon Polygamy
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed for The Washington Blade by Joe Crea on December 12, 2003, for an article, published on December 26, 2003, titled, "Polygamy advocates buoyed by gay court wins (Some see sodomy, marriage opinions as helping their cause)." That year, the US Supreme Court had decided the Lawrence v. Texas case, and the Massachusetts State Superme Court had decided the Goodridge (et al.) v. Department of Public Health case. This newspaper is reported to be the the oldest LGBT newspaper in the United States., and the reporter wanted to find out about and report on the pre-polygamy reaction to these court cases. The resulting article from this interview was cited by various anti-polygamists, including by the "Family Research Council" (FRC) more than a decade after the article was published. (The FRC is a Christian political organization that has always been too timid to speak directly with Mark Henkel, but has referenced his work various times. ) Mark Henkel presented the Christian & Conservative arguments, the differences between Christian Polygamy and Mormon Polygamy, and the applicability of the Court cases to UCAP Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, all while knowing that he was speaking to an LGBT audience in that time of 2003. This interview shows how the formal Polygamy Rights Win-Win Solution would simultaneously protect the rights all sides of the debate for same sex marriage. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was on "talkSPORT Radio" from London, England, with (American-born) host Charlie Wolf, on May 20, 2001, two days after Tom Green had been convicted of one count of criminal non-support and four counts of bigamy. This matter and this interview occurred before Obergefell v. Hodges in 2015, before the raid of the FLDS cult raid in 2008, before the conviction of Mormon-based FLDS cult leader Warren Jeffs, and even before Lawrence v. Texas in 2003. The host had brought a Mormon polygamist, who was friend and apologist of Tom Green, on to the show to actually defend the very real crimes that Tom Green had done (and about which most polygamists vehemently opposed). Mark Henkel adamantly differentiated that Christian Polygamy and overall UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, have nothing to do with the Tom Green "baggage" of underage crimes, marrying step daughters, welfare fraud, and other such real-crime issues. Mark Henkel also explained the dffferences between Christian Polygamy and Mormon Polygamy, as well as the different definitions of polygamy, polygyny, polyandry, and bigamy. As the official, formal public voice standing against Tom Green (and the real crimes that that criminal had committed), Mark Henkel was thereby successfully laying down the groundwork for the growth of the overall polygamy rights movement for unrelated connseting adults, as being as normal as everyone else in not being connected to such real criminals as Tom Green. Immediately before the interview starts in this podcast, the following is spoken as a CAVEAT: "This rare interview from the year 2001, was recorded using imperfect audiocassette tape technology. Although the sound quality of this interview is unfortunately less than optimal, it is still being made available here for history and archiving purposes. Thank you for understandning and for listening to this rare interview from 2001." http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Keith Plocek for Houston Press, in Houston, Texas, on March 21, 2006. After seeing a report in Newsweek magazine involving Mark Henkel, the reporter wanted to do an article about polygamy. Mark Henkel, knowing that he was speaking to a newspaper in a Bible Belt state with conservative Christians, spelled out the Christian and Conservative arguments of the new movement of Christian Polygamy and how it is different from Mormon Polygamy. The reporter acknowledged that what he learned from this interview was more (and sensible) than what he had thought going in to it, even as he "went in to it without any pre-conceived notions." The reporter even said that the argumentations are "well worked out." This interview provides numerous Biblical arguments, including Mark Henkel's soundbite of the 3 reasons why supporters of OMOW (One Man One Woman) can not use the Adam & Eve story to justify a big goverment marriage control amendment. This interview shows how both the conservative and liberal positions require both to embrace the polygamy rights win-win solution to end the marriage control debate. It also explains why the "tolerance" dogma makes it easy to persuade liberals, so the focus is more on persuading Conservatives and Christians. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was on The Kevin and Bean Show on KROQ 106.7 FM, in Pasadena, California, serving the Los Angeles area. The show's namesake-hosts are Kevin Ryder and Gene "Bean" Baxter. As the "Kevin" was not at the interview, the episode was hosted by "Bean," along with two additional co-hosts, Ralph Garman and Lisa May. While keeping it fun and entertaining, all three of the co-hosts were respectful, remained friendly, and asked important questions. This provided a good opportunity to educate an audience about the differences between Christian Polygamy and Mormon Polygamy, as well as the overall movement for UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed for The Standard-Examiner by Nancy Van Valkenburg, in Ogden, Utah, on March 2, 2006, for an article about the then-new fictional TV series, "Big Love" on HBO. As she was reporting from what Mark Henkel identifed as "the Mormonland Bubble" of Utah/Arizona, he educated her about different forms of UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. This interview provided the reporter with a comprehensive explanation of how Mormon Polygamy is not Christian Polygamy and the differences there between. Despite all this education, the newspaper decided to take took a negative position and did not even mention within the article any of that which the reporter had learned, instead continuing false stereotypes. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by staff writer, John Pomfret, for The Washington Post, on November 2, 2006, for an article that would be published on November 21, 2006. This was following breaking news that the caught criminal cult leader of the FLDS Warren Jeffs, who had been apprehended a couple months previously, was scheduled to appear in court for his crimes. It was evident that the reporter had neither done his homework nor was even looking to discuss the differentiation of how the National Polygamy Rights Movement for Unrelated Consenting Adults is and has always been adamantly against Warren Jeffs and the FLDS cult. Nevertheless, the staff writer was given an extensive education about the modern movement for UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy (including the additional differentations of Mormon Polygamy, Christian Polygamy, Secular Polygamy, et al) and how the Polygamy Rights Win-Win Solution to end the marriage debate only seeks de-criminalization not legalization as a win-win solution to allow both conservatives and liberals to politically save face - a true win-win. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support
We're continuing our discussions with Dr. Newell Bringhurst. We've talked about the controversial topics of blacks and the priesthood, as well as Fawn Brodie, and we're going to continue to talk about controversial topics with Dr. Bringhurst. What is Bringhurst's Approach to Controversy? We'll ask him in this episode? https://youtu.be/NSLI_s5hbrU GT: Apparently you enjoy controversy. You've talked about blacks and the priesthood and then you talk about polygamy. What are your latest polygamy books that you've put together? Newell: I've been involved with Craig Foster, a co-author, co-editor. The two of us together did a series of volumes. They are anthologies, collections of essays by various contributors as kind of a trilogy. Volume 1 is the Persistence of Polygamy: Joseph Smith and the Origins or Mormon Polygamy. That was initially published in 2009 and we focus on the controversial aspects of Joseph Smith and his involvement and practice of polygamy.[1] How does Newell deal with controversial topics? Mentions his books have many perspectives from many different authors. For example, Newell: Don Bradley did an essay on Fanny Alger, arguing that Joseph's marriage to Fanny was actually a marriage and not an affair, not a “nasty, filthy affair” as Oliver Cowdery said. I tend to take issue with him. I allowed him to make his case and he gave a good argument for his position. I felt like it should be out there for people to consider. I've always considered myself to be fair-minded when I look at controversial issues. I want to make sure that people are aware of all sides of an issue. What does he like most about the study of Mormon history? Newell: I think that's one of the healthy things about the field of Mormon studies. You can disagree and not be disagreeable and still remain friends and enjoy camaraderie with people you disagree with. I think that's one of the great things about the whole field of Mormon studies. Check out our conversation…..
