GUESTJasson Perez is a Senior Research Analyst at ACRE who studies the connections between police violence, mass incarceration, and economic injustice. Through his research, he works to create campaigns to end mass incarceration and police violence and demonstrate that the fight for democratic socialism must embrace the politics of decarceration and abolition. Previously, at the Cook Center on Social Equity, Jasson did research on the racial wealth gap created by housing discrimination against Black homebuyers. Before becoming a researcher Jasson was a lead organizer for SEIU Local 73 and BYP100. Welcome to KSPN Hosted By Mizterkool On The CHANNEL OF KOOL Mizterkool examines the NBA Boycott and asks what was it all for? Did the boycott make enough impact? or any impact at all? The NBA and National Basketball Players Association have agreed that the playoffs will resume today after a tumultuous couple of days that saw players almost cancel the season. The NBA and NBPA union released a joint statement Friday, August 28th announcing a resumption of the games. The original postponements came after a historic day for professional sports, with athletes banding together to stand against racial injustice following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. A video conference call "to discuss next steps" was to be held Thursday between "a group of NBA players and team governors representing the 13 teams in Orlando, along with representatives from the National Basketball Players Association and the league office and NBA Labor Relations Committee Chairman Michael Jordan," according to the statement. Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James was reported as saying nothing for the most part in these meetings. Almost 60 years ago, Hall of Famer Bill Russell and some of his Boston Celtics teammates sat out a game in 1961 in protest of racial injustice. Strikes are banned under the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, which means the Milwaukee Bucks players broke their own contracts in order to protest the racial injustice and police violence.
