Episode 87 of The Memory Jar, a Magic: The Gathering podcast about the cards, decks, people, and stories that make Magic the game we love. This week, we look at Phyrexia: All is One, the third set in a four-set story arc about the Phyrexians invading the multiverse. We talk about the story, mechanics, unique cards, and plenty of nonsense. As you may expect. This week's Random Card: Vapor Snag! Fun to return to to New Phyrexia. And its owner's hand. Season 17, Episode 6: Weekly Roundup (Modern + Pioneer) A full week of online tournaments with Phyrexia: All Will Be One are now in the books, and new format staples are emerging in both Modern and Pioneer. It starts with The Mycosynth Gardens, a card that Amulet Titan players have given rave reviews. The only question seems to be: where does Valakut+Dryad fit into the newly colorless manabase? Meanwhile, Dimir Mill players have been feasting upon the Amulet Hopeful sporting playsets of a new toy of their own: Jace, the Perfected Mind. An on-plan threat that plays to the board and has huge upside and versatility seems to be exactly what Dr. Mill ordered. Finally, Atraxa, Grand Unifier is a card in the midst of a meteoric rise. In just days the card has quadrupled in value following tournament wins in every format. The card is loaded with potential in both Modern and Pioneer, and is a worthy target for our next brewing adventure. Like our content? Support us on Patreon and join our brewing community! All Will Be ONE... starting next week, when we cover the stories of Phyrexia: All Will Be One. This week, though, we're taking you through all eleven members of the strike team that's had a rough landing on New Phyrexia. Some are safe for now, like Kaito and Koth, and others, well... But who are these eleven intrepid planeswalking heroes and why are they the ones delving through the nine hells of biomechanical horror? After a long holiday break, the cast is back together with a very special author interview: Jay Annelli, author of Magic the Gathering: The Visual Guide, an in-depth exploration of Magic's lore full of character details, gorgeous art, and even some hints at the upcoming return to New Phyrexia. Lore Boys here with some more exciting fake history. We're continuing the Magic: The Gathering storyline of Elspeth, Venser, and Koth on their search for both Karn and a cure for the Phyrexian menace. With Vorinclex bringing the Phyrexians back to Magic Story after a decade, it's a good time to catch up some newer story fans on what New Phyrexia is all about. Vorinclex was "sort of" spoiled for Kaldheim. This has a lot of implications being that he is a Phyrexian Praetor. Who were the Phyrexians? Many new players may not know the significance of this pseudo-spoiler. This is an introduction to what Phyrexia was, its inhabitants, its core philosophy and religion, as well as the break down of the factions founded on New Phyrexia. A ton of great lore information without getting too far into the nitty gritty of the history.------------------------Check out our new merch store: https://teespring.com/stores/my-store-10243556Join our Discord Server and have INSTANT ACCESS to Land Say Go and our Community!Subscribe over at our YouTube Channel to see all of our latest video content!Follow us on Twitter!Follow and Subscribe on Twitch and hangout with us just about every day! It's time for another episode of On The Shoulders of Giants! This week we're actually looking at Patrick Chapin's set review for New Phyrexia; but, there's more to it than that. As Blake Rasmussen pointed out on the WotC website this week, Patrick Chapin has claimed all creatures are either Baneslayers or Mulldrifters and this is the article in which he discussed the theory and related strategy of viewing creatures in this way. In his final broadcast as part of the Limited Resources team, Ryan tells the tale of his journey from aimless preschool teacher with a seemingly-useless Philosophy degree to Coastal Wizard! And hey, because no episode of Limited Resources goes without some meaty Magic strategy, the boys lead off with their insights on triple New Phyrexia drafting. It’s been a heck of a run! Join Ryan and Marshall as they bring this chapter of Limited Resources to a close.
Join Limited Resources for one of Ryan’s final shows! Marshall talks about his invite to the Community Cup, while Ryan talks about the lead-up to working at Wizards of the Coast and recaps the Rooster Draft format. For the main topic, the boys discuss the impact of New Phyrexia on the Scars-block Draft format now that they’ve both played it a bit, and touch on the upcoming triple-NPH queues on Magic Online as well.
(Note from Covenant of Minds: This episode is actually going up a week late due to problems with delivery, sorry!) The group talked about New Phyrexia's metagame impacts, how to get started in EDH/Commander, the 14 Tix challenge, as well as a slew of other things. Marshall and Ryan finish up their New Phyrexia set review with an in-depth analysis of each rare in New Phyrexia and its impact on Scars-block Limited. Head into the draft queues fully-prepared!
Phil, Kirk and Tony review the leaked cards of New Phyrexia and their potential impact on all formats. New combos, Type 1 shake-ups and Phyrexian Mana effects on Limited. Also, Kirk makes bad puns, and Tony's brain backfires on simple words and phrases. http://www.archive.org/download/Episode1NewPhyrexiaAndYou/podcast1.mp3
Back for the second part of their New Phyrexia Limited Set Review, Marshall and Ryan give you their take on every blue, black, red, and green non-rare in the set, just in time for your local prerelease. Infect everywhere, significant color bleeding with effectively colorless spells, and even some free ones to keep in mind. New Phyrexia is going to shake up Scars of Mirrodin Limited, so get in your prep with Ryan and Marsh!
It’s set review time! Marshall and Ryan use the early leak to do their ever-popular blow-by-blow of the new commons and uncommons in two parts. This week, artifacts, lands, and white cards get the full Limited Resources treatment. Also, the boys weigh in on the suspensions surrounding the New Phyrexia leak, and talk about the upcoming Magic Online Community Cup.
In this episode the crew discusses how EDH affects your competitive Magic game, reacts to the leak of New Phyrexia, and comments on (Andrew rants) New Phyrexian spoilers. Contact us at: www.bojukablog.com www.twitter.com/@mtgradio CovenantofMinds@gmail.com
In one of the biggest leaks in Magic history, the entire New Phyrexia set has made its way on to the internet more than two weeks before the prerelease. Instead of diving into the set review two episodes early, though, Marshall and Ryan opt to start from a more pulled-back perspective, taking a look at the mechanics in the new set and discussing their impact on both Scars-block Limited and Magic as a whole. What does Phyrexian mana mean for the future of Magic and the integrity of the color pie?
