Do you often explain to someone what you do as a life coach and get back a blank or confused look (one that screams “I don't really understand what you mean, but okay”)? Many, many times I've worked with life coaches who communicated to potential clients in ways that no one actually understood what they did. They cloaked themselves and their business in “coach speak.” That's not a place you really want to be. Instead, you've got to keep it simple and get very clear in how you talk about your business to others and especially potential ideal clients. So in this episode, I want to tackle this on a deeper level and discuss how you articulate what you do and how you help people solve their problem. 2:09 - How ditching the coach speak worked out for one of Janet's clients 5:14 - An important key for clearly articulating what you do for clients (with a shout out to episode 58) 8:04 - Janet reads one of her client's statements as an example of clear vs. coach speak communication 10:08 - Why ditching the coach speak is much more effective 12:04 - Another example from Janet's client Kemba (who also appeared on episode 56) 15:08 - Wrapping up with Janet's best advice to help you start ditching the coach speak Do you fear showing up on social media or hesitant about putting yourself out there to potential clients and want to understand why? Maybe you've even tried articulating what you do, trying to motivate and inspire people along the way, and all you hear back is crickets. When it comes to visibility as a woman of color and black life coach, so much goes on underneath the surface that hasn't really been addressed. So I've put together a free visibility training for you. In it, you'll discover five key areas that reveal why you feel stuck and why this keeps happening to you. Get access here! As broadcast March 21, 2022 with plenty of spring for your podcast steppin. Tonight we welcome two very new things with open arms on The Drop, with the start of Season 7 of the show happening on Spring Solstice, we couldn't possibly take that as a bad sign, although Iggy Pop and David Bowie weren't having the most auspicious night on this date in 1976, which is our history opener for the gig. Tons of great new tunes to cover on the show tonight, with new tunes from The Smile, Bon Iver, and a new album announced from Arcade Fire to highlight. However, we were missing Kat Bass at least in the studio this week as she came down with COVID, so is trapped at home until later this week as a result. Great cuts to hear in our 2nd hour Popcast feature from her as well though, although without her lovely voice. Inside my program 9-5 to Freedom, I always emphasize working on one offer in your business. My client Kemba Samuel is an anomaly, though. She constantly has ideas and is doing all the things! She runs a clinic, has a coaching business, and offers a membership. I was able to support her despite her not wanting to go down one path. In this episode, she and I discuss her business and how she's changed since we began working together. She went from being a quiet mouse in the group and feeling invisible to getting her mojo and landing her first client within months of starting the program. You'll hear about where she was before she joined, what made her decide to jump in, where she is now, and where she wants to take her business. This is one juicy conversation you don't want to miss out on! So let's get to it! 5:25 - Kemba reveals her business(es) and what led her to join 9-5 to Freedom 11:04 - What Kemba's coaching business changed throughout our time working together 16:22 - Kemba really had to come out of her shell 20:35 - How Kemba juggles multiple offers and works with her clients 25:58 - Kemba talks about working with her first one-on-one client about halfway through the program 30:19 - The struggle with pricing and what Kemba realized as she gained another client 36:14 - Why Kemba has no attachment to the outcome and the biggest downfall for entrepreneurs 39:42 - What Kemba loves the most about 9-5 to Freedom 42:23 - The value of having a space purely for entrepreneurial black women 47:19 - What's next for Kemba and advice she has if you're on the fence about joining the program As you listen to Kemba's story, are you thinking, “That's me! I'm tired of just staying where I'm at and not making any progress”? If you're ready to progress, you'll get to where you want to go faster with the support and guidance of someone along the way who'll catch you when you feel like you're in free fall. In fact, that's exactly the point where I'm able to support you. It's my superpower! You can finally say goodbye to your 9-5 job by saying hello to 9-5 To Freedom. With the way I support you in the program, you won't be the same person on the other side. So if you don't want to look back in six months and find yourself stuck in the same place in your coaching business, head to 9-5 to Freedom to see exactly how I help you get to the next steps in your journey. Then, book a call with me to see if joining is the right fit for you right now.
