Welcome to the Energy News Beat Standup, where host Stu Turley breaks down the 10 biggest energy stories reshaping global markets. In this episode, we dive into a world in flux: Russia's refining capacity is crumbling under Ukrainian drone strikes, Iraq is suspending exports and seeking independence from Iranian energy, and new pipeline projects are being fast-tracked to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, back home, data centers are driving unprecedented energy demand, New York is doubling down on restrictive policies while Texas and Virginia race ahead, and grid vulnerabilities are becoming impossible to ignore. From geopolitical disruptions to emerging security threats—including rumors of Iranian drones in Cuba—this episode explores how energy markets are rebalancing, how new trading blocs are forming, and why now is the time to prepare for what's coming next.1. Global Oil Market RebalancingThe podcast opens with discussion of how the global oil market is undergoing significant rebalancing due to geopolitical disruptions, particularly Russia's degraded refining capacity from Ukrainian drone strikes. Russia's refining capacity has been slashed to 39 million barrels per day, forcing a shift in global trade dynamics.2. Russia's Refining Crisis & Ukraine's Drone CampaignA major focus is Ukraine's successful drone campaign against Russian refineries. Ukraine has struck over 24 of Russia's 34 major refineries, and all of Russia's major refineries are now within reach of Ukrainian drones. This has fundamentally changed how the war is being fought and has disrupted global energy supplies.3. Iraq's Energy Independence & Export ChallengesIraq has suspended crude loading at all export terminals (impacting 4 million barrels per day). The discussion covers Iraq's negotiations with major oil companies like Exxon and Chevron, and efforts to become energy independent from Iran by developing domestic natural gas instead of importing it.4. Strategic Pipeline Development & Hormuz BypassGoldman Sachs projects that new pipelines could divert 45% of Strait of Hormuz oil by 2027 and 60% by 2028. This reflects global efforts to circumvent potential disruptions at this critical chokepoint, which is bad news for Iran's economic recovery.5. Canada's Shale Gas RenaissanceLong-dormant shale gas reservoirs in Alberta are being revitalized through oil plays, particularly in the Basal Belly River Formation. This represents a significant opportunity for Canadian energy production.6. Data Center Energy Demands & New York's MoratoriumNew York has imposed its first moratorium on data centers (affecting only 5 facilities), which the host criticizes as "virtual signaling." The discussion contrasts New York's restrictive energy policies with other states like Texas, Virginia, and Georgia that are attracting data centers due to better energy availability and lower costs.7. Grid Resilience & Security ThreatsThe podcast warns about potential grid vulnerabilities, citing Exelon's CEO prediction that Americans could face blackouts as soon as 2027. There's also concern about 136 Iranian drones rumored to be in Cuba that could potentially target U.S. grid infrastructure in Florida.8. Energy Market Prices & Investment OutlookThe episode concludes with current market prices (WTI crude at $82.72, Brent at $88.77, natural gas at $2.91) and emphasizes the importance of energy awareness and personal preparedness for potential emergencies.Check the articles on https://theenergynewsbeat.substack.com/A shout-out to Steve Reese and the Reese Energy Consulting group for sponsoring the Podcast https://reeseenergyconsulting.com/.Data2 if you have any business systems, can you trust A? In this segment of The Tara Show, guest host Ryan Wrecker opens the discussion by explaining the strategic benefits of increasing domestic oil extraction to secure American energy independence, arguing that maintaining resources within our hemisphere protects the nation from global supply disruptions. Transitioning from politics to sports history, Wrecker previews an upcoming interview with author Randall Sullivan about his new book, The First All-Star Game, which explores how baseball historically served as a powerful tool to unite a deeply divided country during the economic hardships of the 1920s. Finally, Wrecker shifts focus to a critical commentary on the health and cognitive decline of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell following reports of a recent hospitalization, questioning why several aging politicians remain in office past their prime and calling for a cultural "code of honor" regarding political retirement.

Wasif Latif, Co-Founder, President & Chief Investment Officer, Sarmaya Partners, stopped by the Energy News Beat Podcast again. This time, we covered the current events on the Strait of Hormuz and the impact of the Iranian war. It does not look like they will be going away quietly into the night and will want to cause damage to the global markets, as they were caught mining the Strait this weekend. We highly recommend following Wasif on his LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/wasiflatif/, and check out Sarmaya Partners https://sarmayapartners.com/1. The Return to Tangibles & Commodity Super CycleThe podcast opens with the central theme that the world is returning to tangible assets—commodities, real assets, and energy. Wasif Latif argues this is a multi-year secular trend that began in 2021, driven by inflationary pressures and geopolitical events. He believes we're in the early innings of a commodity super cycle that will last several years.2. Geopolitical Impact on Oil MarketsA major focus is the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its cascading effects on global oil supply. The hosts discuss how this disruption has taken 10-20% of global oil supply offline, creating supply shocks similar to the 1970s. They explore how this affects different regions differently—the U.S. is relatively insulated (only 2% of oil comes from the Strait), while Asia faces acute challenges.3. Oil Supply & Demand ImbalanceThe podcast emphasizes that global oil demand continues to rise as developing nations grow economically, but investment in new oil exploration and production has stalled. They cite a $1-3 trillion shortfall in exploration spending needed to meet future demand. Oil prices may need to reach $100+ per barrel to justify new investment.4. U.S. Energy Independence & Refining CapacityDiscussion of America's shale revolution and recent developments like the new refinery in Brownsville, Texas (coming 2027) designed to process light sweet crude. The U.S. has increased production from 8 to 13 million barrels per day over a decade, but refining capacity remains a constraint.5. Stagflation Risk (1970s Scenario)The hosts warn of a potential stagflationary environment—where the economy stagnates while inflation remains high. They compare current inflation trends to the 1970s, noting that recent CPI and PPI data show concerning spikes. Unlike the 1970s, gas lines are unlikely due to improved energy efficiency, but widespread price increases across goods are expected.6. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) ReleasesDiscussion of coordinated global SPR releases as a stopgap measure to dampen oil prices. However, these are temporary solutions that buy time but don't provide permanent protection. The hosts note that countries like Japan, Korea, and India will likely rebuild their SPRs, creating additional future demand.7. Natural Gas as a Bridge Energy SourceNatural gas is positioned as a key transitional energy source, especially for data centers and AI infrastructure seeking low-carbon alternatives. The podcast explores how U.S. natural gas prices could converge with global prices as LNG export capacity expands, similar to how Brent and WTI oil prices have converged.8. Coal's Role in the Global Energy MixWhile Western nations have reduced coal usage, China and India continue heavy reliance on it as part of an "all-of-the-above" energy strategy. Germany's energy policy mistakes (shutting nuclear and coal, relying on Russian gas) are highlighted as a cautionary tale.9. Gold as Inflation Hedge & Currency ProtectionGold is analyzed as a beneficiary of both geopolitical tensions and sovereign debt pressures. The podcast argues that governments facing high debt levels will choose to protect bond markets over currencies, leading to currency depreciation and gold appreciation. Historical comparisons show gold's current bull market is still in early innings.10. The Yen Carry Trade & Financial Stability RiskDiscussion of Japan's bond market challenges and the "widow maker" trade. The hosts warn that if the Bank of Japan raises rates to combat inflation, it could trigger a yen appreciation that unwinds the massive yen carry trade, potentially causing a global equity market selloff.11. Silver's Dual Role: Precious & Industrial MetalSilver is highlighted as both a precious metal and critical industrial commodity for chips, solar panels, and AI infrastructure. Physical demand for silver is outpacing supply, with industrial companies now procuring directly from mining companies, suggesting the physical market will eventually drive prices higher.12. Geopolitical Negotiations & Market ImplicationsThe podcast discusses ongoing negotiations between the U.S., China, and Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz. President Xi's statement about wanting the strait open without tolls is seen as positive. The hosts note that equity markets are already pricing in a resolution, suggesting the war is "over" from a market perspective.Key Takeaway:The overarching narrative is that we're entering a new era where physical commodities and real assets will outperform financial assets due to geopolitical tensions, supply constraints, inflation, and sovereign debt pressures—a return to the dynamics of the 1970s, but without the gas lines.Check out the Energy News Beat SubStack https://theenergynewsbeat.substack.com/A shout-out to Steve Reese and the Reese Energy Consulting group for sponsoring the Podcast https://reeseenergyconsulting.com/.Data2 if you have any business systems, can you trust A? Gasoline prices in the United States often feel disconnected from a simple expectation: if a country produces more oil than anyone else in the world, shouldn't fuel be cheap? Yet Americans frequently face high prices at the pump, even during periods of record domestic production. The explanation lies not in a single cause, but in a complex mix of engineering constraints, global market dynamics, and structural mismatches within the U.S. energy system, compounded by Donald Trump's war with Iran. Independent media has never been more important. Larry Behrens of Power the Future joins the show for a follow-up conversation as global tensions—and energy markets—continue to shift weeks after the start of the Iran conflict. You've probably heard it: “We have all the oil we need right here in America.” So why are we still importing millions of barrels every day? We break down the reality behind U.S. energy: America produces roughly 13.4 million barrels of oil per day—but consumes closer to 19 million Why refineries can't just “flip a switch” to use domestic oil The difference between light and heavy crude—and why it matters Why the U.S. still depends on foreign oil despite record production The cost, politics, and regulatory hurdles behind building new refineries We also zoom out to the global picture—who produces the most oil, who consumes the most, and how conflicts like Iran impact prices here at home. If you've ever wondered why gas prices don't just drop when U.S. production rises, this episode connects the dots.

Deep Patel, the Founder and CEO of GigaWatt, has spent nearly two decades addressing this challenge by helping people generate and store their own electricity using solar panels and battery storage.Deep started GigaWatt in 2006, bootstrapping the company from his parents' garage into a thriving enterprise with annual revenues exceeding $60 million since 2019. His mission is simple but powerful: to empower individuals with energy independence and reduce reliance on traditional utility grids. “We are bringing power back to the people,” Deep explained. “By having their own solar panels and battery storage, they can avoid the grid most of the time.”Solar energy isn't a new idea, but its accessibility has transformed dramatically. Deep noted, “Fast forward to 2026, we're finally at the stage where solar panels and battery storage are affordable for the normal person.” This shift makes it possible for more households to achieve grid independence, even as electricity rates continue to soar. One key factor in GigaWatt's success is its user-friendly software, enhanced with AI tools. Designed to simplify energy management, it optimizes solar and battery usage for maximum savings. “The software from the solar industry is written by engineers for engineers,” Deep said. “We're making it so a layman can understand how to operate this system—without an electrical engineering degree.”GigaWatt is currently raising funds through a regulated crowdfunding campaign on StartEngine, inviting people to invest in its mission. Deep sees this as an opportunity for supporters of clean energy to join the movement. “There's a lot of people just like you, Devin, that believe in solar and storage and would want to put some money into it,” he explained.By combining technical innovation with a clear social mission, Deep and GigaWatt are empowering homeowners to take control of their energy future. This is more than a business—it's a movement aimed at creating a cleaner, greener world.tl;dr:Deep Patel founded GigaWatt to help people achieve energy independence with solar and battery systems.GigaWatt has grown to over $60 million in annual revenues since its 2006 garage-based launch.Deep highlighted the affordability of solar technology, making it accessible to more homeowners.GigaWatt's AI-enhanced software simplifies solar energy management for everyday users. The company is raising funds on StartEngine, inviting supporters to invest in clean energy innovation. How to Develop Persistence and Positivity As a SuperpowerDeep describes his superpower as persistence and maintaining a positive mindset. He shared, “Being able to continue to evolve and navigate the changing environments… and showing up every day in a positive mindset is really our superpower.” Deep emphasized focusing on incremental progress rather than obsessing over immediate results, saying, “Just chip away every day and continue to march forward when times get hard.” His resilience has been critical in sustaining GigaWatt's success over two decades, despite the ups and downs of the solar industry.Deep shared how he navigated industry downturns that left others struggling. When faced with a challenging year, he invested his own resources into the business, even as cash flow projections looked bleak. He described it as “double downing in a time of fear” and credited his belief in GigaWatt's mission for getting through the tough times. His persistence during temporary storms ensured long-term success and growth.Tips for Developing Persistence and Positivity:Focus on small, daily wins to maintain momentum.Recognize that tough times are temporary, like storms that will eventually pass.Stay mission-driven rather than fixating on short-term results.Maintain a positive mindset by focusing on progress, not perfection.View challenges as opportunities to adapt and grow.By following Deep's example and advice, you can make persistence and positivity a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. Tara breaks down Trump's warning to NATO over Iran, the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, and how U.S. energy independence is taking shape with new refineries. From international oil deals to Democrats' alignment with Iran and media misinformation, this episode exposes the stakes for America, allies, and global markets. SUMMARY In this episode, Tara unpacks Trump's message to NATO allies: help escort tankers through the Strait of Hormuz—or face consequences. She explains why the U.S. no longer depends heavily on Middle Eastern oil, how new domestic refineries will make energy cheaper, and why most “dumb” policy decisions strangely benefit China. Tara highlights the geopolitical calculus: Trump is calling out specific allies like China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the UK, while leaving oil-dependent Asian countries out to facilitate energy deals. She explains how controlling Hormuz allows the U.S. to secure dollar-based oil pricing and prevent China's shadow fleet from dominating trade. The podcast also debunks media narratives that Trump had no plan for Hormuz, showing his decades-long strategy and pre-existing military preparations, including missile strikes on Carg Island. Tara emphasizes the risks for U.S. Marines tasked with securing the island, noting how Democrats and media might exploit casualties to weaken the U.S. position. Finally, she explores the energy and economic impacts, comparing current gas prices with Biden-era highs, and highlights how Democrats' political strategy aligns with Iran's interests, while Trump strengthens America's energy independence and geopolitical leverage. KEY TALKING POINTS Trump warns NATO: show up for Hormuz or face consequences U.S. already militarily and economically decimated Iran New Texas refinery to refine light sweet crude, cutting dependence on foreign oil Allies' inaction exposes weakness of NATO and UN commitments Strategic oil deals with India, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines Importance of controlling the Strait of Hormuz for dollar-denominated oil trade Operation Epic Fury: Carg Island strikes, securing military and oil infrastructure Democrats' messaging aligns with Iran's interests; media spreads misinformation Gas prices and energy independence explained SOCIAL MEDIA BLURB Trump calls out NATO & Iran allies over Hormuz!
00:00 All right, welcome back to the program. Let's go to Clay up near Shelby. How you doing, Clay? Hey, how you doing, Charlie? I'm great. What's up, man? It's nice to talk to you. Thank you. I agree with everything you always talk about. love your show. Thank you, sir. What's up? I'm just going to say, you know, I hear people talk about gas and feeding the kids. I just want to run this by you. You're probably a man. close to the 60. I'm a 60 year old man. All right. And I'm going to ask you a question. 00:30 You know, people talk about prices going up and inflation's not coming down. My opinion is, is one of times, you know, when taxes go up for your county taxes, do they ever go down? No, they don't. And same thing as this. Have you noticed how packaging of foods and stuff are getting smaller? Yeah. Shrinklation. 00:59 charge you the same price. Yeah. When these companies, which I can't blame them because they're making money because they can charge you and they say, Hey, they're still paying for it. It's kind of simple there. They're not going to change their prices going down. Even if the gas prices go down, it's just like the tactics. It's not going to go down. I've been living long enough. I've seen this over and over. Can you explain? mean, 01:29 That's just kind of a simple scenario. Companies make money. Yeah. Well, that's why they go into business to make money. Somebody sent me a text talking about how, because we were talking about three gallons of gas or something is all you could get back in 73. And they were like, yeah, but, you know, gas was only 30 cent a gallon back then. But the average income, the median family income in 1973 was like $12,400. 01:59 Dr. Ramon, that about about a half for $68,000. Yeah, yeah. Beautiful house, you know? I'm just saying the same situation is people complain about inflation. Why are they coming down? Well, our inflation is coming down. I mean, now compared to what it was under Biden, I appreciate it, Clay, compared to what it was under Biden when it was over 9%. I mean, it's holding pretty steady at 2.4. Now, chances are 02:29 Next month is going to go over up a little bit because of what's going on in Iraq and not all and we saw it would go away. Well, remember it went down to 2.3 inflation went down to 2.3 then it bumped back up to 2.4 because of the longest government shutdown in history. Thank you, John Thune and the Democrats. 02:52 Really, that's our biggest problem. But when you look at the cost of a gallon of gas ... 03:01 So much of that is taxes and regulations. It's not even funny. In fact, in California, they just shut down three refineries because they just can't handle all the regulations. Well, thankfully, we got a new one being built. Now, how long it takes to build a refinery, I don't know. We got the first one in 50 years is being built. I think it's down in Brownsville, Texas. That's going to help. But again, that's that's 03:31 Gosh, probably years away from that happening. 03:37 But we forget that under Joe Biden, gas peaked at $5.03 a gallon nationwide. $5.03. Right now, national average is $3.71. 03:55 So we're still a long, uh long way from Joe Biden. And we are still better off than we ever would have been under Kamala Harris, without a doubt. But the Democrats have made headway. We know that they won in Virginia. um Abigail Spanberger won that race for governor. And ever since this woman became governor of Virginia, it has been a nightmare. 04:25 An absolute nightmare for those people in Virginia. I you to listen to what they're doing. They've got these new gun control bills in Virginia, and some of them do not apply to lawmakers. We think this job has gotten dangerous in the last couple years. Well, how many Virginians out there believe that they're in a situation where they need to protect themselves? 04:53 But yet we don't listen to them, well not me, but this body's not gonna listen to them because they think they need to ...
Gas prices are exploding after U.S.-Israeli strikes crush Iran's oil facilities — but President Trump just called it exactly what it is: “TEMPORARY.”Oil surged past $95 a barrel and pump prices are up 10-15% nationwide. In the final installment of A New Contract With America, Professor Nick Giordano lays out the last two pillars needed to restore America's strength, prosperity, and legitimacy. Part Three focuses on achieving true energy independence, unlocking America's rare earth mineral wealth to fuel economic revival, and restoring trust in elections through commonsense reforms that ensure transparency, accountability, and confidence in the system. These are not theoretical ideas or costly government programs. They are practical, achievable solutions that strengthen national security, lower the cost of living, and reconnect Americans to institutions they no longer trust. This episode ties all ten reforms together and explains how they work in concert to build a freer, stronger, more fiscally responsible America. Episode Highlights How energy independence and rare earth mineral development can spark economic growth and strengthen national security Why election integrity reforms are essential to restoring faith in democracy and increasing voter participation How all ten reforms in A New Contract With America work together to create a more prosperous, free, and accountable nation
The Other Side of the Story with Tom Harris and Todd Royal – Coal mining illustrates the dynamic: federal energy transitions reduced demand, but state-level permitting and environmental rules added costs that hastened closures.
