Corn held up on fund buying and spread action with soybeans, while wheat ended mixed caught between the two. Cattle futures ended lower on profit taking and fund long liquidation and hogs like saw the same action. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Grains fade early strength running into chart resistance and seeing some profit taking. Is this topping action or volatility in a weather market? And what do the funds need to continue buying? NOPA crush was disappointing and the Wheat Quaility Tour is seeing better yields than a year ago, which also sparked some selling. Cattle close mostly higher as the S&P makes new highs and boxed beef soars. Dave Chatterton, Strategic Farm Marketing, has analysis.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week's Open Mic guest is Kailee Tkacz Buller, President and CEO of the National Oilseed Processors Association. The nation's oilseed processing industry has rapidly been expanding capacity to meet growing demand for their products. Many new plants have been built, others are under construction and additional processing capacity could be added pending public policy decisions. Buller says renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel hold tremendous opportunities for further oilseed industry expansion. Buller hopes 40Z tax credit rules will include more acceptable climate smart production practices and less bundling. NOPA opposes policies that place caps on vegetable oil capacity and encourage imports of used cooking oil from foreign countries.

Corn and soybeans end higher on Friday with fund short covering and soybeans reversing after a record NOPA crush figure at 186.2 mb. Soybeans ended higher for the week and look like the funds will continue to take profits off the table heading into USDA reports and end of month and quarter. Corn was slightly lower for the week as it continues to be held back by wheat which sank again on China cancellations of U.S., Australia and French wheat. Cattle rebounded Friday and were higher for the week with near to record high cash trade but is the market signaling a top? Meanwhile, crude oil close above $80 and may see more inflationary buying. Supervisor Catherine Stefani represents a part of San Francisco that does not have a reputation for violent crime — District 2 includes the Marina, Pacific Heights, Cathedral Hill, Laurel Village and NoPa. But shortly before SFNext: Fixing Our City interviewed her, a violent assault in the Marina made headlines, though it wasn't yet apparent that there was allegedly more to that story. Stefani describes how she would like to handle challenges with hiring cops, what we expect police officers to do, and why public safety is such a critical issue for San Francisco. | Unlimited Chronicle access: sfchronicle.com/pod Fixing Our City is part of the San Francisco Chronicle's SFNext Project Got a tip, question, comment? Food media entrepreneur, Stephen Satterfield, joins the show this week to serve up a small batch sermon on the power of conviction and cuisine. The founder of Whetstone and host of Netflix's High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America talks champagne, terroir, and wine as a means of socioeconomic development. We examine how and why he's come full circle on the distinctions that enable food to deepen human connection — and we explore the history of agricultural acumen and its role in systemic inequality. This is a mouthwatering and mind-blowing conversation!
