What's friendship without a little FUN? Chuff helps her friends out today by getting them to relax and have fun together. In this episode, we play a game I call “Sound Story.” You'll hear these sound effects: rain, birds, bubbles, ice cream truck, friendly robot, children laughing, twinkling, and a “boing” sound. How to play “Sound Story”: You can find some free audio sound effect files here and here. It would be fun to make your own sound effects (tapping your knees, rubbing hands together, crinkling paper, etc.). Make or play a few sound effects. Fewer sounds for younger children, add more sounds for older children. The listener can close their eyes and listen to the sounds. Repeat them in the same order if they want to hear them again. Ask the listener to tell you a story based on the sounds they just heard. Switch and let them choose some sounds for you to use to create your own Sound Story!
Sharing is caring…but is that all caring is? Kaala and Chuff find out more about why it's important to be a caring friend in this episode AND the friends figure out the next piece of the glowing gemstone mystery. We play a couple of mindfulness games focused on our sense of sight and hearing, and then practice one of our favourites, Loving Kindness Meditation. With Gabriel Gitter-Dentz, Kevin Zhou, and Adam Rudt of Hunter College High School and the Bridging the Carbon Gap podcast How can students make up for lost time when they haven't learned much about climate change at school? When is the right time to introduce climate education? How should it be handled? Can gaming be an effective educational tool? These are all top-of-mind considerations for Hunter College High School seniors Gabriel Gitter-Dentz, Kevin Zhou, and Adam Rudt. This trio of teens joined us to discuss their experiences with climate education (or lack thereof), how and when to introduce climate ed., and how their podcast, Bridging the Carbon Gap, came to be. We also somehow got onto talking about a new role that George Clooney could play in a movie about the foundational climate law in the United States. Guests (in their own words): My name is Gabriel Gitter-Dentz. I am a senior at Hunter College High School and live in Manhattan. My favorite subject is Chemistry. Aside from creating the Bridging the Carbon Gap podcast, I play basketball for my school and for fun, and I am an assistant teacher at my synagogue's religious school. I'm Kevin Zhou, and I'm currently a senior at Hunter College High School. I enjoy studying Math and Physics. Outside of academics, I spend time on my PS4 or playing basketball. I'm Adam Rudt. I am a senior at Hunter College High School and my favorite subjects are Biology and French. In my free time I enjoy birdwatching, playing basketball, and making podcasts. 13 Reasons Why, a teenage drama centered around a suicide and it's direct effect on the community and the high school in that community, created huge opinions around the nation about it's portrayal of suicide & intervention, or lack thereof. Ryan and Mike dissect and explain what's going on in the show, while informing what to look for in real life when someone is considering taking their own life. Mike tends to have very strong opinions about this particular TV Series, and it takes Ryan's years of experience as a Therapist to really shed an impartial light on a very graphic depiction. This episode was recorded during Mental Health Awareness week, so the guys picked, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, a movie that hits home for Mike, as he also is diagnosed Bi Polar. Mike spends the first part of the episode stumbling over his words and struggling to keep focus. Ryan, the Therapist he is, points out that Mike is having real feelings, and is possibly triggered by the depiction of Mania by Bradley Cooper's Character, Pat. We learn a lot about Mike's personal struggles this week, and dive deep into the heart of what a Bi Polar person would be like in real life. Also, the therapist in this movie, Dr. Patel, becomes a big topic of discussion, and not always for the positive. Join us, as we discover new thoughts we had about the portrayal of Bi Polar Disorder in this Movie that we weren't quite aware of before we pressed record. This is a book about a Nighttime Circus that appears, unannounced, in previously undisclosed locations, for an uncertain amount of time. Only open from dawn until dusk, the white and black color scheme, tents of various intrigue, and winding quality of both the acts and the circus layout itself is sure to entrance you. At the exterior most edges, this story explores the classic interplay between lightness and darkness. In essence it visits the difficulties that is morality and consequence; ask yourself, do you have a shadow? Rêveurs Kiana and Rychele invite you to explore Le Cirque De Rêves - a nighttime spectacular and lifetime curiosity. Also, we discuss Marco who is strangely flat throughout - but everyone else's character makes up for that.
