Being human can be challenging, especially in light of the global shift over the last 4 years. How can we embrace these changes with grace, and not pressure ourselves to live up to cultural standards that are honestly, unattainable and rooted in the presumption that you, as you are, is "not enough"?In this episode, my guest, JodiGolda Komitor, unravels the gold laced within what it means to be HUMAN and how to embrace your messy ways as much as you do your Instagram-worthy side? As a visionary herself, and pioneer of the Kids Yoga Movement, with over 25 years of entrepreneurial and small business experience, it was an honor to host JodiGolda on the podcast and learn from a true leader that embodies leadership with authenticity, truth, and freedom to be one's self unapologetically. I first found JodiGolda by listening to her episode on the Healing Her podcast about this concept of the "inner winter" and how she moved through this following the sale of her business after abundant success with the Kids Yoga Movement. Despite what the world sees as success, she stepped away into the spirit of what she calls a "somatic unpacking", developing a relationship with the part that is outside of you, this conversation with your harsh inner critic. Once again, she is in a stage of following her inner calling by leaving everything that she knew here in the States to explore life in Portugal as a digital nomad, and what this new season is unearthing within her, gathering the gold in both the highs and lows of life! Smart bodies smart kidsKids need yoga tooEp 163 Kids Yoga the key to socio-emotional development and mental healthTrauma informed yoga builds smart bodies and smart kids. Science is telling us that our interoception, our somatosensory sixth sense, is important in being able to focus, learn and recover from all forms of stress. Children who are chronically scared, hungry, tired and neglected will find ways to adapt to those feelings and not in ways that are conducive to learning. The body has an innate intelligence that our current education system ignores in favor of sitting still and staying on task. But if we can harness the developmental connections of movement, memory and emotion we can help our kids calm their nervous system in order to feel safe no matter where they are. And strong, emotionally resilient children grow up to be strong emotionally resilient adults. That's our Work IN today. It's time to stop working out and start working IN. You found the Work IN podcast for fit-preneurs and their health conscious clients. This podcast is for resilient wellness professionals who want to expand their professional credibility, shake off stress and thrive in a burnout-proof career with conversations on the fitness industry, movement, nutrition, sleep, mindset, nervous system health, yoga, business and so much more. I'm your host Ericka Thomas. I'm a resilience coach and fit-preneur offering an authentic, actionable realistic approach to personal and professional balance for coaches in any format. I'm publishing this episode a little bit later than I usually do because LIFE, but it's a fun one so here we are. I shared this as an Instagram post a few days ago, but as I'm sure you know, posts fade away much more quickly than podcasts, and I want these reflections to live on in a semi-permanent way.I don't know if you know this, but I used to teach kids yoga. I taught for several years before my daughter was born, and it's something that I think had a bigger impact on my own journey and how I parent than almost anything else that I've done. So, here are four surprise lessons I learned from teaching kids yoga.***I'm going to be very direct this week and invite you to schedule a free consultation with me within the next week.I'm going to block my schedule for the whole of our winter break because that's what's working best for my family right now, so even if you're thinking out into January, I want to encourage you to get started now. There's no risk, no pressure, just an hour together to talk about you, what you're needing support with, and see if coaching together would be a good fit. I love working one on one with parents because together we create such a personalized path forward. So, come see what it's all about. In this episode of Mindful Conversation with KAY, Kelly & Kristi continue the conversation about physical responses to emotions with a re-release of Episode 31: Somatic Work. Our bodies have evolved with a primal response system to perceived threats, known as the fight, flight, or freeze response. This response is a natural survival mechanism that activates when we encounter danger or stress — whether we choose it or not! By exploring the fight, flight, or freeze response, we can better understand and regulate our emotional experiences. Somatic work is an approach that recognizes the mind-body connection and focuses on integrating physical experiences to release emotions. By paying attention to bodily sensations, we can gain insight into our emotional experiences and initiate healing from within. Tune in as Kelly and Kristi dig into this fascinating topic by exploring questions like: What, exactly, is somatic experiencing? How can we use physical movements to get mentally/emotionally “unstuck”? How can we instill mindful awareness of physical cues in children? How do we become 'Body Detectives'? How can we integrate somatic work into our Kids Yoga and Mindfulness classes? Healing begins within the body, and by cultivating mindfulness and exploring somatic work, we can embark on a transformative journey toward emotional well-being. Join us! This episode is part of a series. Be sure to tune in all month for thoughtful conversations about physical responses to feelings and emotions and helpful ways to manage and process them for both adults and children. In this episode of Mindful Conversation with KAY, Kelly & Kristi begin a new month-long series on physical responses. They kick off the conversation by diving deeper into what emotions are, how they manifest in our bodies, the impact they can have on our overall well-being, and the role yoga and mindfulness play in understanding and processing them. Throughout this episode, Kelly and Kristi cover the following thought-provoking topics: The negative 'side effects' of not acknowledging or expressing emotions The importance of accepting and honoring all emotions, both positive and negative Exploring the ways our bodies communicate our emotions Examining the ways in which our emotional states can influence our physical states through sensations, illness, and behaviors Discovering how the practice of mindfulness can help us cultivate awareness of our bodily sensations and deepen our understanding of our emotions. Humans are social animals. We like to hang out and talk. We could, conceivably, create spaces where we could go, solely to talk to other people. But the way our society is structured, everything has to be paid for. Would people pay to go to a place just to talk to each other? Maybe. But that's not what happens. What happens is, we socialize with each other while doing an activity we're prepared to pay for. Like eating. Drinking. Listening to music. Or going to a yoga class. And, like a lot of things these days, we start young. Take for example Lolo's Youth Yoga and Art Studio, Uptown on Magazine Street. Lolo's is New Orleans' first yoga studio specifically for kids. Children - from three years old to teenagers - practice yoga, make art, do mindfulness exercises, and learn meditation in afterschool or full-day sessions. The founder and owner of Lolo's Studio is Laurie Azzano. Two places that adults like to congregate are bars and coffee shops. We go to a coffee shop where we like the taste of the coffee they serve. Bars all serve the same alcohol, so they compete with each other by providing “added value.” For example, live music. For a combination of these business models – coffee and live music – you could go to Catahoula Tattoo, on Broad Street in Mid City. The coffee is their own blend – Catahoula Tattoo Select. And if you drink it at the studio, it's free. The live music is free too. While you're hanging out at Catahoula's self- described “tattoo lounge,” you could get a tattoo, right? Not so fast. Catahoula has 3 tattoo artists, but they won't give you a tattoo on the spur of the moment. Your tattoo needs to be designed ahead of time, and you need an appointment to get it inked into your skin. And in further market-differentiation, the owner of Catahoula Tattoo, Dominic Srgo, says, Catahoula is “not the kind of tattoo shop where the tattoo artists look like they belong in a circus.” If you ever go to a Saints Game when the dome is sold out, the sheer mass of humanity can be overwhelming. That's around 70,000 people. Each one of those people is on an individual life journey. So is every one of the 7 billion humans who aren't in the dome on any given Sunday. And, because we're human, that individual journey we're all on can be physical, and spiritual. One of the oldest ways of creating an individual difference between ourself and everyone else on earth, physically, is body art. And one of the oldest ways of developing our individual non-physical self, is Yoga. The practice of both of those pursuits is ever-evolving. Laurie Azzano and Dominic Srgo might be merely two individuals in the 21st Century in a small city in the south of the United States, but their respective contributions to the arts of tattooing and yoga are a part of ancient traditions, and uniquely their own. Out to Lunch is recorded live over lunch at NOLA Pizza in the NOLA Brewing Taproom. Confidence and self-esteem are important concepts for kids to embody because they help them to feel good about themselves and give them the power to believe in their own abilities. Welcome to Episode #86 of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast! My conversation with Rina Mehmeti and Agnesa Mehmeti, sister yoga teachers and yoga studio co-owners from Kosovo, was so beautiful as they shed light on what it was like to open the first yoga studio in Kosovo and how yoga impacted their community after all the turmoil and difficulties that followed the war. If you're looking to tune into a podcast episode that is all about yoga in Kosovo then this is the conversation for you. Support the podcast: https://www.patreon.com/wildyogatribe What to expect in the Yoga In Kosovo episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast Step into the vibrant world of yoga in Kosovo with Rina and Agnesa Mehmeti, the dynamic duo behind Urban Yoga in Pristina. In this episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast, they share their incredible journey of opening a yoga studio in a country that was relatively unfamiliar with yoga just a few years ago. Rina and Agnesa's story begins with skepticism from friends and colleagues who couldn't fathom leaving their stable jobs for the path of yoga. But their passion for helping others and the word-of-mouth recommendations soon started to spread, creating a buzz around their studio. Local media coverage further introduced yoga to the community, dispelling misconceptions that yoga was simply sitting in a cross-legged position. The pandemic played a surprising role in boosting the popularity of yoga, turning it into a lifestyle choice that benefits both mental health and physical well-being. Beyond their studio's success, Rina and Agnesa offer insights into the beautiful country of Kosovo. They describe it as a small nation with stunning mountains and a young population. They highlight the warmth and hospitality of the people, making visitors feel like part of a family. They also touch upon the challenging times Kosovo faced during the war, recounting their personal experiences as refugees and the difficulties of living in a post-war environment. However, they express optimism for the future, with positive changes occurring in the country and the upcoming visa liberalization that will allow easier travel within Europe. For Rina and Agnesa, yoga is not just a physical practice but a transformative experience. It has helped them find balance, navigate anxiety, and be fully present in every moment. They view yoga as a powerful tool for healing and personal growth, instilling a sense of love, connection, and gratitude for life. Tell me more about Rina & Agnesa Mehmeti Agnesa and Rina Mehmeti are sisters and yoga teachers Kosovo. They co-own the Urban Yoga studio in Prishtina, the capital city of Kosovo. Their yoga journey started in 2013 when they first came to the practice, and they began teaching in 2017.
