On iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple has replaced the ‘notch' that's been a feature of Face ID-equipped iPhones since the iPhone X with what it calls the Dynamic Island. The Dynamic Island is a small area of display pixels surrounding the pill-shaped cutout. It appears whenever your iPhone is unlocked, and changes size and shape to accommodate various types of alerts, notifications, and interactions such as music that's playing, your timer, an AirDrop connection, and directions from Maps.In this podcast, Thomas Domville shows us how VoiceOver users locate the Dynamic Island and its contents.

Permanent TSB today brings its Personal and SME customers Apple Pay, a safer, more secure and private way to pay that helps customers avoid handing their payment card to someone else, touching physical buttons or exchanging cash — and uses the power of iPhone to protect every transaction. Customers simply hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near a payment terminal to make a contactless payment. Every Apple Pay purchase is secure because it is authenticated with Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode, as well as a one-time unique dynamic security code. Apple Pay is accepted in grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, coffee shops, retail stores, and many more places. The feature is the latest extension to Permanent TSB’s digital banking offering and will be available to all Personal current account and credit card customers and to SME current account customers with business debit cards. Jeff Harbourne, Head of Personal Banking at Permanent TSB, said: “We are delighted to bring this great additional feature to our Personal and SME customers. It highlights our commitment to bringing customers what they want and making banking and payments easier for them. We continue to work quickly on bringing a broader range of innovative, customer-friendly features to our digital banking offering and will make further announcements shortly.” Customers can also use Apple Pay on iPhone, iPad, and Mac to make faster and more convenient purchases in apps or on the web in Safari without having to create accounts or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information. Apple Pay makes it easier to pay for food and grocery deliveries, online shopping, transportation, and parking, among other things. Apple Pay can also be used to make payments in apps on Apple Watch. Security and privacy are at the core of Apple Pay. When customers use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, an industry-standard, certified chip designed to store the payment information safely on the device. Apple Pay is easy to set up. On iPhone, simply open the Wallet app, tap +, and follow the steps or use the Permanent TSB app to add credit or debit cards. Once a customer adds a card to iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac, they can start using Apple Pay on that device right away. Customers will continue to receive all of the rewards and bene?ts offered by Permanent TSB’s cards. Customers with Permanent TSB’s flagship Explore Current Account will continue to earn 10c cashback every time they use Apple Pay to make contactless payments linked to their debit cards. This builds on the Explore account’s 10c cashback incentive for customers whenever they pay with their debit card (these cashbacks are subject to a maximum of €5 per account per month). For more information on Apple Pay, visit: For more information on Permanent TSB, please visit www.permanenttsb.ie

Full Transcript 3 is company and we were feeling Pretty, Pretty Good once we got the iOS14 downloaded and up and running on our various versions of the iPhone. Raqi and Jeff virtually High-5 each other and Serina just shrugs. With the new iOS full of features that extend beyond the reach of the iPhone 10, there was a lot to talk about and the Time Flies event was nearly the opposite. Kind of a lack luster event unless you were waiting for the new Apple Watch Series 6 or SE or an iPad in Sky Blue. Raqi, Serina and Jeff dig in and give their opinions and share some experiences with the iOS14 features. Jeff having beta tested for some time brought his unique perspective while Raqi dove deep into the Air Bud Pros, while Serina talked continuously about October. Hmm. Below is a list of topics covered in this deep dive into the Apple Orchard minus a few iPhone Apples. Hmm. Jeff gives a few demos, Voice Recognition and Precise and Approximate Location Settings.  iOS14: What iPhones get all the latest and greatest features? iPhone 10R and newer including the SE 2020 Accessibility VoiceOver Recognition On-device intelligence recognizes key elements displayed on your screen to add VoiceOver support for app and web experiences that don’t have accessibility support built in. Image descriptions VoiceOver reads complete-sentence descriptions of images and photos within apps and on the web. Text recognition VoiceOver speaks the text it identifies within images and photos. Screen recognition VoiceOver automatically detects interface controls to aid in navigating your apps, making them more accessible. Headphone Accommodations This new accessibility feature is designed to amplify soft sounds and adjust certain frequencies for an individual’s hearing, to help music, movies, phone calls, and podcasts sound more crisp and clear.12 Headphone Accommodations also supports Transparency mode on AirPods Pro, making quiet voices more audible and tuning the sounds of your environment to your hearing needs. Sound Recognition Sound Recognition uses on-device intelligence to notify users who might otherwise miss audible environmental alerts around them. On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, users receive a notification when a particular type of sound or alert, such as a fire alarm or doorbell, is detected. Back Tap Built to create a simple and easy way to trigger convenient tasks for those with accessibility needs. A quick double or triple tap on the back of your iPhone can be configured to trigger a number of actions, such as opening the Magnifier, or starting VoiceOver when your iPhone is in your pocket. It can even map to common system features such as Control Center, or accessibility-specific activities such as Switch Control actions.  Sign language prominence FaceTime can now detect when a participant is using sign language and make the person prominent in a Group FaceTime call. Widgets Add widgets to keep important information front and center.  Touch any app icon, then flick up until you hear, “edit mode”, and single-finger double tap  the Add Widget button located at the top left-hand corner of the screen. Choose a widget in the gallery, then choose a size. The smaller sizes take up less space  and provide less info as opposed to the large size. The space the widget takes up moves the overflo to the next page and not incorporating them into the next page that was previously there. Nice, as when you get rid of the widget, all springs back to normal. You can stack the widgets. Smart Stack Widget The Smart Stack shows you relevant information throughout the day — like the weather forecast or route to your next event. Choose Smart Stack from the widget list. You can edit what is in the smart stack by single-finger double tapping on the widget while in edit mode. Change order or delete a particular choice. App Library To see all your apps neatly categorized, 3-finger swipe left on the Home Screen until you see the App Library. It is the last page. Apps are sorted into groups, such as Recently Added and Social. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Each category will say how many apps are in the folder and the apps will be in an A-Z format. Reply to a specific message: In a group conversation in the messages app, you can single double tap a hold on any message and respond to that particular message. After single-finger double tapping, flick up or down to your desired option of copy, reply or respond with emoji like thumbs up. Pinning conversations: Up to 9 conversations  Group photos: Give your group conversation a visual identity by adding a photo or Memoji, or choose an emoji. Send audio messages: When you want to be more expressive in your messages, you can now easily send audio messages with Siri. Password monitoring: Safari securely monitors your saved passwords to ensure that they have not been compromised in a data breach. To do this, Safari uses strong cryptographic techniques to regularly check derivations of your passwords against a list of breached passwords in a secure and private way that doesn’t reveal your password information — even to Apple. Air Pod Pros  Spatial Audio Go to Bluetooth settings, swipe down to air pod pros, flick up to more info, and go down to  Spatial Audio. Bring surround sound where ever you go! Headphone Accommodations, Hear sounds that may need some tweaking for better hearing situations. Movies, phone, music. Automatic switching Seamlessly move between devices without manually switching your AirPods. If you finish a phone call on your iPhone and pick up your iPad to watch a movie, AirPods automatically switch over. Works with AirPods Pro, AirPods (2nd generation), EarPods, Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro, and Beats Solo Pro. Audio Sharing for Apple TV Connect two sets of AirPods to your Apple TV 4K so you can enjoy movies and shows with someone else without disturbing others. Works with AirPods Pro, AirPods (1st generation) or later, Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro, Beats Solo Pro, Powerbeats3 Wireless, Beats Solo3 Wireless, Beats Studio3 Wireless, and BeatsX. Requires tvOS 14. Upgrade to Sign in with Apple Easily switch to Sign in with Apple when logging in to participating apps. You’ll keep the account you already use, but have one less password to keep track of. Approximate location Share only your approximate location rather than your exact location — perfect for apps like local news or weather. Augmented reality. ARKit 4 introduces Location Anchors, allowing developers to place AR experiences, like life‑size art installations or navigational directions, at a specific point in the world. Add captions to photos Open photo, swipe down to photo then flick up to show details, from the top swipe down to add a caption. Voice Memos. The most popular audio recording app in the world gets new tools for organizing recordings. The Deep North podcast has launched. On computer> http://deepnorthpodcast.com/ On iPhone> https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/deep-north/id1357648245?ls=1 But Farming god isn't going anywhere. Stay tuned.  Jay Walljasper (author of The Great Neighborhood Book) and Alexandra Connett (Minneapolis transplant) make a case for a city beyond cows, cold, and camp snoopy. Before moving to Minneapolis, Alexandra had no expectations for Minnesota, "Everyone was asking me why I was moving to the middle of nowhere." Since arriving, her experience has been much different than she had imagined.  Walljasper says Alexandra isn't a unique case and that this perception is partially Minnesotans fault. In the age of social media and the brand called you "it's time that MSP set aside its suburban sensibility and proudly say we are a city."  Music by Zack Baltich and intro music by Enjoy the Cat Click here to learn more about Jay Walljasper
