The Philosophy of Sports Tech: Dave's new book focuses on the organizational philosophy of deploying technology rather than just the technology itself. AI and Efficiency: AI functions like a major paradigm shift, akin to the dawn of Web 1.0 or early streaming. Agentic AI systems are evolving beyond conditional logic to manage themselves and adapt to real-time environmental conditions. Ultimately, AI is replacing menial tasks, allowing employees to focus on their highest and best use within an organization. Sports vs. Big Business: Despite their massive cultural footprint, most sports organizations trail industries like retail and healthcare in tech adoption because they are relatively small businesses. Even the NFL, with revenue approaching $25 billion, is not considered a big company by Fortune 100 standards. Optical Tracking & Analytics: Advanced technology is heavily leveraged on the sports operations side of the business. Organizations use motion capture and tracking on elite soccer players like Lionel Messi to duplicate performance gains and aid in injury prevention. Adoption Cultures: Different organizations navigate technology based on their unique internal cultures. The Masters tightly controls its technology through private partnerships, such as with IBM. Conversely, the NBA embraced early social media virality to grow its audience, viewing it as a rising tide rather than cannibalization. The RSN Crisis: The sports revenue model is currently challenged by the dissolution of regional sports networks. The guaranteed affiliate revenue from traditional cable bundles was significantly higher than what direct-to-consumer models could replace in local markets. Golf's Tech Revolution: Golf is uniquely positioned to benefit from technology because action happens across 200-plus acres simultaneously. Innovations like the PGA Tour's ShotLink optically trace the ball within centimeters, leading to features like Every Shot Live, where fans can watch any shot from any player. Adapting for the Future: Ownership dynamics are changing, with private equity and wealthy owners pushing for profit and rule changes. These shifts, such as pitch clocks and larger bases in baseball, are designed to shorten games and attract a younger audience, specifically 18- to 32-year-old fans. They are counting on your complacency. The architects of the engineered decline in both sports and society are betting that you'll nod along while they sanitize your history, erase the Permanent Things, and rig the economic system entirely in their favor. Every day you accept their managed version of reality is another day they win. But you do not have to play their game. Right now, the questions we have about our careers feel existential. We keep coming back to the same theme: how do you prepare for an industry that's changing this fast, and what mindset actually works in this new reality? One skill keeps surfacing as the answer — your ability to update your own mental models. In today's episode, I want to push on that further and put some of software engineering's most beloved thinking models under scrutiny. Some of these models served you well for years. Some of them now deserve to be challenged, replaced, or thrown out entirely — and learning how to tell the difference is itself the skill that will determine whether you hit a ceiling. Move Past "So What" Questions: The typical engineering objection to agentic coding is that it produces quality issues. But the people deciding to adopt these tools already accept that. Our job is to stop arguing the surface-level point and start asking the real one: so what do we actually do about this new economic reality? The Economics of Acceptable Loss: Abstraction always leaves something to be desired. An agent's code may not match what a staff engineer produces by hand over months — but that gap is usually an acceptable trade against shipping something two, three, or four times faster. Understand the cost-benefit picture instead of pretending the cost doesn't exist. Abstraction Has Always Done This: This isn't new. The calculator dissolved the specialization once required for complex math. Spreadsheets commoditized ledgering and accounting. Agentic coding is the same pattern arriving for our work — making something that required deep specialization suddenly far more accessible. Roles Are Blurring: As these generic tools raise everyone's ability to abstract, the boundaries soften. You're already seeing product managers open pull requests and engineers making product decisions. The neat lines around "what an engineer is" are not as fixed as they used to feel. Why Your Hard-Won Wisdom Is the Target: If you've spent years in this industry, your models were bought with blood, sweat, and failed projects. That experience is real wisdom — and it's exactly what I'm asking you to be willing to challenge, because the thing that always worked for you is the thing most likely to become a ceiling. This Skill Survives Either Way: Even if you think AI is mostly hype and I've been infected by it — fine. The ability to challenge your pre-existing models is a critical skill regardless. It's how you keep growing as you get more senior instead of repeating what used to work. Models Are Approximations: The whole point of a model is to approximate the reality around us. That's their value and their limitation. When the underlying reality shifts this dramatically, holding tightly to an old approximation stops being wisdom and starts being a liability.

Hear from Kingsmill Bond, Senior Energy Strategist at Ember, as we explore why renewables and electrification are reshaping the global energy system faster than many realise. We talk a great deal on this podcast about the risks and the policy challenges of the climate transition. But if that transition is actually going to happen — and happen at the speed that the science demands — there is something that has to sit at its very centre. Not the frameworks, not the disclosure requirements, not the net zero targets. The actual physical transformation of how we generate and use energy. The growth of renewables. The electrification of the things we use every day: our cars, our heating, our industry. Without that, everything else is commentary. So where do things actually stand? How fast is the transition really moving? What does the data tell us that the mainstream forecasts might have overlooked? And in a world of geopolitical turbulence, rising energy security concerns, and significant political headwinds, what are the barriers still standing between where we are and where we need to get to? This episode attempts to answer those questions. We'll be covering: Why flows matter more than stocks — and what the data tells us about how fast the transition is really moving The geopolitical energy shocks of the 2020s, what makes them different from the 1970s, and why this time we actually have solutions And what all of this means practically for risk professionals trying to get ahead of the transition rather than simply react to it ---------------- To find out more about the Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR®) Certificate, follow this link: https://www.garp.org/scr For more information on climate risk, visit GARP's Global Sustainability and Climate Risk Resource Centre: https://www.garp.org/sustainability-climate If you have any questions, thoughts, or feedback regarding this podcast series, we would love to hear from you at: climateriskpodcast@garp.com ------------------ Today's Speaker Kingsmill Bond is Senior Energy Strategist at Ember, an open data think tank that has been tracking the growth of renewable energy and its impact on the global electricity system. Kingsmill spent years as a financial analyst and strategist at some of the world's leading investment banks before making the transition to energy. This has seen him working at Carbon Tracker and the Rocky Mountain Institute before his move to Ember.
"We realized early on with our digital transformation that really what we're trying to do is digitize processes and …we really want to transform. But the people that own these business processes are stakeholders, they're in sales, they're in operations, they're in HR, finance, supply chain, so we needed them before we could get started on digitally architecting a solution. So… we take a senior leader from a function and ops or a business unit and ask them to be the business process leader…. and we match you to an IT leader who's also quite senior. So these are VP SVP roles and they're the power couple. So we ask the domain leader on the stakeholder or business side, you define the what and the why, so what is it that you need and why? That's the value part of it….They're a partnership."" Elizabeth Hackenson on Electric Ladies Podcast How do you manage business systems in the middle of an industrial-technology revolution when those very systems are transforming too? They also use massive amounts of energy, water and are made from things like critical minerals, steel, aluminum wires, computer chips, et cetera that are all complicated by climate and energy crises. Listen to Elizabeth Hackenson, Chief Information Officer of Schneider Electric explain how this massive global technology leader transforms itself while helping clients do the same in this fascinating discussion with Electric Ladies host Joan Michelson. You'll hear about: How what a Chief Information Officer's portfolio really is and how they manage it 24/7 across the globe How they are leveraging and managing AI, as well as data centers. How their "power couples" have become a valuable structure for ground up systems transformation with the end user in mind. How they reduce their carbon footprint while helping clients do the same and maintain excellence. Plus, insightful career advice, such as… "First you have to find a company that is interesting to you and what you want to do. And then to me, it's always about focus on delivering what you've been asked to and what you can do. And then opportunity, in my view, opens up. Now sometimes it's at the company you're at and other times it's not. And that's okay…When you're at that 15-year mark, you should have by then figured out what you like, what your interests are and where you want to go next. And you've got to take control of your destiny. And again, I think getting to a company that you believe in, you have the same values, can give you that pathway to whatever it is you're looking for is where to start and then deliver." Most law firms don't have a tech problem. They have a decision-making problem. In episode 611 of the Lawyerist Podcast, Zack Glaser talks with Scott Clasen about how to evaluate legal technology in a world where AI is changing everything and somehow making it more confusing at the same time. Too many firms are stuck buying more tools, chasing new features, and hoping the next platform will finally fix their workflow. Scott challenges that approach by shifting the focus away from software and back to systems, asking a more important question: what problem are you actually trying to solve? They explore the rise of AI-powered SaaS, the appeal of building your own tools, and why “AI-enabled” doesn't always mean “useful.” The conversation also breaks down how to evaluate legal tech vendors, what contextual AI actually means, and how to think about long-term investments when the landscape keeps shifting every six months. If your tech stack feels bloated, expensive, or underwhelming, this episode offers a smarter way to make decisions that actually move your firm forward. Tech is no longer the future. It is the present. And it is moving fast. Today's theme, Latinas Leading the Tech Revolution, is a reminder that innovation is not reserved for a select few. It belongs to us too, and this moment demands that we stop standing on the sidelines and start shaping the world being built around us.In today's episode, we revisit three powerhouse conversations with four mujeres who are rewriting the narrative about who gets to lead, innovate, and take up space in tech. Their journeys are different, but they echo the same message: ownership. Ownership of their voice. Ownership of their path. Ownership of their right to stand in rooms where new ideas take shape. We begin with Nikki Barua, interim CEO of Latinas in Tech, whose life is a masterclass in reinvention and bold vision. Nikki shows us that obstacles are not barriers; they are gateways, and when you move with intention, your path expands. Her approach to leadership encourages us to rethink what is possible when Latina women fully step into their ambitions.Next, we revisit Christina Gallegos, leadership strategist and former Google leader. Christina gives us a behind-the-scenes understanding of what leadership looks like inside one of the world's biggest tech ecosystems. Her message is simple and powerful: leadership without humanity is empty, and women lead differently because we care differently. Finally, we return to a fire-filled conversation with Marisela Arechiga and Lizette Espinosa, entrepreneurs and AI educators dedicated to bringing accessible tech knowledge directly into our community. They remind us that our community cannot afford to be last in line for the tools shaping the world, especially AI.Tune in and let these four mujeres show you what happens when Latinas stop waiting to be invited into the future and start building it.Episode Takeaways:Why Nikki believes obstacles are levels, not limits (2:20)The childhood imprint that shaped her belief in possibility and impact (3:10)How reinvention becomes a superpower when you choose curiosity over fear (4:55)Christina's path through top global companies and what prepared her for Google (7:50)Why tech is “like water” and why every industry now depends on it (8:40)Her role in expanding Google Maps to support users in crisis and emergency zones (10:00)Why Latina representation in tech isn't optional, it's essential (12:50)Marisela's callout: our community cannot afford to be the last adopters of emerging tech (16:00)The truth about AI tools, what they can and can't replace, and why human connection stays central (22:40)Connect with Nikki Barua:XLinkedInConnect with Christina D. 2025 has been a year of profound change in the regulatory landscape for Australian media. There is a social media ban for under 16s, which goes live next week. There are new local content spending rules for the big paid streaming platforms. And there is a revised version of the news bargaining code which aims squarely at Meta. Tim Burrowes has covered all this at Mumbrella, and rejoins The Fold to update Duncan Greive on what our near neighbour is doing – and what our government could copy (but probably wont). Heading into the holidays, the hottest gifts on the shelf are AI-powered smart toys, leading parents to confront a troubling question: what happens when machines start reading to our kids, teaching them, and becoming their companions? At the same time, schools, already grappling with record learning loss, are rushing to adopt AI tools with little evidence they help children learn or grow.Brad Littlejohn, director of programs and education at American Compass, joins Oren to explore how AI slipped into classrooms and Christmas shopping carts and why smart devices often undermine the very skills childhood and education depend on. They discuss the rise of phone-free schools, the lure of AI tutors, and what it will take to draw real boundaries in a technological world built to erode them.

Sheletta Brundidge discusses the broadband boom, the seismic tech shift, and how Comcast is investing in innovation and connectivity for the future with Comcast. Only on the Laughing with Letta Podcast.
On his first day in investment banking, Clayton Kossl was “thrown right into the cauldron.” With few senior professionals in the small aerospace and defense group, junior bankers like him were expected to face company owners directly. “You had to understand the businesses inside and out,” he tells us. The experience forced him to blend analytical depth with the interpersonal agility needed to earn trust in every room. That mix of skills—numbers and nuance—became a through line in Kossl's career. At ZocDoc, he joined a Strategic Finance team that partnered closely with the CEO and CFO, taking ownership of decisions that rippled across the fast-growing health-tech firm. The role taught him that financial modeling and relationship-building could coexist—and that influence often came from understanding how leaders think, not just how spreadsheets add up.Later, when Kossl joined Paintzen as one of roughly a dozen employees, those lessons proved vital. He rebuilt systems from scratch, partnered daily with the CEO and COO, and touched nearly every function of the business. “Someone had to do it,” he recalls. His ability to translate operational chaos into financial clarity helped guide Paintzen through its expansion and eventual sale to PPG Industries.Across these chapters, Kossl's story reveals a consistent pattern: using strategy to tell better stories. Whether advising founders or steering finance in ad-tech today, he views storytelling not as spin, but as structure—the way finance can make complexity understandable and transformation achievable.

Send us a textWhat happens when artificial intelligence makes it increasingly simple to create thousands of fake identities? In the world of Web3, this isn't a theoretical question. It's a pressing challenge that threatens to undermine the fair distribution of resources and community governance.Yan Ketelers, CMO at Holonym (the foundation behind human.tech), joins us to discuss how the proliferation of bot activity and Sybil attacks is diluting value that should flow to actual humans. "A single entity can collect a thousand times the airdrop they should be entitled to get," Jan explains, highlighting how this pattern creates a system where honest participants find their rewards and voting power dramatically reduced. The conversation explores human.tech's innovative approach to solving this contradiction through zero-knowledge protocols. Their ecosystem—consisting of Human Passport (formerly Gitcoin Passport), the upcoming Human Wallet, and the Human Network backend infrastructure enables users to prove their humanity without compromising privacy. This technology has already proven valuable for projects like Story Protocol in ensuring airdrops reach genuine community members.Perhaps most exciting is human.tech's solution to one of crypto's persistent user experience problems: wallet recovery without seed phrases. By splitting keys across network nodes that can be reconstituted when needed, they eliminate a significant barrier to mainstream adoption. "We don't believe everyone should do self-custody and write down their seed phrase, then hide it somewhere in a field," Yan shares, outlining their vision for more accessible crypto ownership.Beyond crypto applications, human.tech's partnership with RefUnite is helping refugees establish digital identities and receive aid without requiring traditional identity documents. This practical application ensures humanitarian assistance reaches intended recipients rather than being diverted through intermediaries or fraudulent accounts. As AI continues to advance, the distinction between authentic and artificial identities grows increasingly blurred. Join us to discover how Human Tech is establishing a framework where individuals maintain control of their digital identities while still being able to prove their humanity when needed. "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" is far easier said than done, yet if anyone's story exemplifies why we shouldn't let failure stand in our way, it's Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani. From applying to Yale Law School three times before being accepted, to becoming the first Indian American woman to run for Congress, Reshma refused to let "no" stop her from succeeding. Saujani joins Liz to discuss how this tenacity ultimately led her to create the nonprofit Girls Who Code, which has now taught over 700,000 girls and women to code across the country. She shares how being the daughter of immigrants drove her to want to make an impact in America, the country responsible for saving her parents' lives after they were expelled from Uganda. In this week's episode of Market Mondays, we tackled a variety of critical topics shaping the financial and tech landscapes. We started with the Dow dropping over 200 points at the start of a holiday-shortened week, discussing whether this signals trouble for 2025 or if it's just a minor market fluctuation. We explored Bitcoin's future price targets and what could be next for the leading cryptocurrency. With CEO departures hitting an all-time high since tracking began in 2010, we analyzed the potential reasons behind this trend and its implications for businesses. We also highlighted the top-performing stocks of the year, offering insights into market dynamics, and delved into the explosive potential of robotics—identifying the companies worth investing in to ride the next tech wave.
