It's Lesbian Visibility week, where we take a look at some of the most wonderful women who have shaped Feast of Fun over the course of 20 years. One of my all time favorite musicians is blues singer Gaye Adegbalola. We first met Gaye back in 2005 at the Out Music Awards where she wowed the crowd with her audacious song “Big Ovaries” looking absolutely stunning wearing a white tuxedo with tails that complimented her silver shock of hair and dark skin.Gaye is not your ordinary blues musician, like us she has a sharp sense of humor and passion for restorative justice. An evening with Gaye Adegbalola always proves to be filled with exciting music and a whole lot of fun.Back in 2009 we had the pleasure of having Gaye in the home studio to perform several of her iconic songs, she was in Chicago for a concert at the Old Town School of Folk Music where she and her musical collaborators Ann Rabson and Andra Faye in Saffire performed together one last time. Please enjoy this encore presentation of “The Legendary Gaye Adegbalola” as part of our celebration of Lesbian Visibility Week and the design I made that became the modern lesbian pride flag. Enjoy!FEATURED MUSIC:

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Gary Lynn Floyd, Singer/Songwriter About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Gary Lynn Floyd, is a singer-songwriter whose beautiful songs and rich, silky voice reach straight into your heart.  He incorporates his Texas roots in gospel and jazz into a musical style that is a mix of pop and R & B, combining silky, soulful vocals with emotionally powerful lyrics.   He's released 9 albums, including “Walk on Water”, “This Side of Goodbye”, and “Gospel of Zen”, which was nominated for three 2010 OutMusic Awards, including Album of the Year.  His other albums include, “Unbound”, “Body and Soul”, “My 88 Keys, Volumes 1 and 2”, and his collection of greatest hits entitled “Then and Now: 10th Anniversary Edition”.   He also produced an album of piano compositions entitled, “Speechless”.  There's a strong spirituality in his lyrics.  And through his songs and live performances, he's become a catalyst for positive change, by conveying love, light and clarity through his music.  In fact, the Global Women's Empowerment Network selected his song  "Unbound" as its theme song.   Several months ago, our guest honoured me in a very special and profound way, by recording his latest single, entitled “I am Yours”, which was written by the brilliant songwriter, Harriet Schock, and inspired by my struggles after coming out to my parents at the age of 19 and being rejected by them.   His soulful and textured voice was the perfect vessel to convey the universal message of that song.   The public response to the release of the song created immense interest in the artist who sang it. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ https://garylynnfloyd.com/https://www.facebook.com/GaryLynnFloyd/https://www.instagram.com/garylynnfloyd/https://twitter.com/garylynnfloydhttps://www.youtube.com/user/garylynnfloydmusic #GaryLynnFloyd  #IAmYours   #harveybrownstoneinterviews

Today I'm chatting with OUTMusic Award winning singer/songwriter Justin Utley who just released his new music video and single, “American Nightmare,” where he plays a Jason Bourne-like action hero takes aim at conversion therapy, and the current state of our union's blind allegiance with political parties and religion. https://youtu.be/xmGzOok82u4 The single, which features an edgy rock-centric sound, is a different genre for the handsome singer who first rose to prominence in the country/pop/Americana realm. Justin explains, “This whole album has been about exploring edgier, darker themes that I've always wanted to take on but hadn't because I was told to stay in my safe zone." I first interviewed Justin back in 2012 when he had just won two OUTMusic Awards after being nominated for four that year. The honors were for his debut single, “Stand For Something." He's a highly sought-after performer who's appeared on stages across North America and Europe. Along the way, he has shared the stage with top international acts including Dan Reynolds, Icona Pop, Tegan & Sara, Margaret Cho and Billy Porter. In addition to taking stages by storm, Justin has also been an outspoken activist for the LGBTQ community working to outlaw so-called conversion therapy which seeks to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity through debunked pseudoscience. Thanks in great part to Justin's efforts, his state of Utah became the 19th state to prohibit the harmful practice. Justin has appeared as a guest contributor on CNN, NPR, SiriusXM's OutQ and MSNBC. He is a two-time recipient of the FBI's “Inspiring Citizen of the Year” award, and “Artist of the Year” by SiriusXM's OutQ Radio. Chatelaine Magazine recently named Athena Reich the “World’s Top Lady Gaga Impersonator.”  But to label her an impersonator would tell only a fraction of the story.  Reich, a talented artist in her own right, subverts Gaga with her own unique brand of feminist and queer music and drama – going so far as to incorporate her own pregnancy into a show called #ARTBIRTH, where Gaga delivers a baby live on stage.   How Gaga is Reich?   Billboard Magazine once printed a photo of her, mistakenly thinking it was Gaga.  Then there’s the fact that Gaga herself tweeted in support of Reich’s work.   In 2015 she starred as Lady Gaga in #ARTBIRTH at the Laurie Beechman Theater in NYC, which received multiple run extensions and a Time Out Critic's pick.   Reich is hardly limited to her impersonator role.  As a singer/songwriter, she has released 5 full-length albums and numerous singles. Her music videos have charted #1 on MTV LOGO and her song "Love is Love" won Best Pop Song at the Outmusic Awards.   As an actress, her credits include While Collar, The Perfect Murder, "An Evening with Donald Kempinski" (Little Fella Films), "Hush: Inside the Waiting Womb" (LA / NY).   Her music can be bought on iTunes or streamed on Spotify.
