We will be talking with the author of Determined for More, Shawna Meek, as she shares about her new book, an authentic memoir of a wife that was given God's grace beyond her own strength. Shawna shares how she loved, wept, pleaded and grieved, yet never stopped fighting for something she believed was possible. Her story is a real and raw account of twenty-five years of striving and remaining willing to find faith-filled hope in Christ forged by painfully compounding losses.  Coming into marriage with high hopes, Shawna faced a cascade of devastating events. Divorce, remarriage, betrayal trauma, emotional deprivation, and her husband's late in life diagnosis with autism. This often left her with few options for healing and recovery, yet she persevered and remains determined for more. Shawna truly understands the roots of attachment distress in a marriage, even after addiction sobriety. Her personal story began in 2000, and after many years of mentoring women, she knew God was calling her to an extensive coaching training program and ultimately APSATS as a certified partner coach. She is passionate about supporting women as they face specific challenges on this journey, including boundaries during separation and divorce, abuse and gaslighting, therapeutic disclosure preparation, intimacy anorexia and deprivation, and emotional and sexual reintegration

Danielle expounds on her experience of electing to remain in a relationship while leveraging her proficiency in the field. She underscores the significance of approaching partner betrayal through the prism of trauma, seeking assistance and therapeutic aid from certified experts and practitioners, and also reveals a tale of redemption. About Danielle Lew: Danielle is no stranger to hurt, depression, anxiety, addiction, and betrayal trauma; both in her childhood and in her marriage.  She is married to Derek and while she knew early on of his addiction to substances, she did not know there was another addiction lurking in the background. Pornography.  She recalls saying, “But I know he would never cheat on me…”.  It wasn't until several years and 3 children later that God led  Danielle opened up Derek's laptop to see the truth - he was acting out. She didn't realize that the addiction to substances and pornography fueled one another in an insidious cycle of drugs, porn, guilt, shame, drugs, porn, guilt, shame…   Danielle realized quickly that no matter what her husband was doing or not doing, she was responsible for herself. This was liberating and empowering. She worked on healing wounds, developing boundaries, and putting her faith in Jesus; not in her husband. She knew she had to surrender Derek at the foot of the cross.  Derek ultimately chose to fight for their marriage and they are now experiencing redemption in their 20+ years together.   Danielle helps women as a Coach (APSATS trained) and as a Group Facilitator through her practice Danielle Nicole Coaching & several other Christ-Centered organizations She is passionate about helping women & couples live an abundant life by finding their identity in Christ and taking back any areas of the body, mind, and spirit that the enemy has tried to steal, kill, or destroy! It is so exhausting to deal with the collateral damage of being a partner. It is just so unfair!  You didn't ask for the betrayal with all of its emotional wounding and many partners wonder if they will ever be able to recover. To make matters worse, partners put themselves on the back burner. Partners have options to get intense help but they delay it because: They resent that they need to make space for this "_____." They resent that there is a need for this support and that it would take them away from their families for 3.5. or 7 days. And yet we know empiracallly that often times the brain needs to reset and being away in a supportive enviroment with others who have been through the same thing is exactly what needs to happen to recalibrate and find the safety and mindset to move forward into restoration of your own life as a couple and individually, Listen as Carol talks with Heidi Kinsella abouth the Partner Intensives that they have created together for Partners!

Listen as Carol the Coach interviews Julie St Onge as she talks about how brainspotting can assist couples in their relational struggles. Brainspotting allows the emotional brain to reprocess trauma and reorganize it into the cortex or logical brain. It expedites the healing process. It is a process that involves using the optic nerve direction and bilateral music. We tap into where the trauma is and allow it to reprocess and reduce. This is not exposure therapy.  The benefit to couples spotting is that the wounding between the couple comes up immediately. This allows the couple to be more aware of the injuries and triggers that surface without any spoken words. They can be processed and even notice how one wound triggers another. Couples experience connection at a deep level as the emotional base heals. This allows more effective communication and use of tools and skills.

Everything changed with a ding, with a click on a tab; that's all it took to discover the man you love has been cheating on you. Now what? That's just one of the questions we'll walk through on this episode of “Sacred by Design.” Anne joins Andrea to discuss the ways infidelity leaves you with more than just a broken heart. Together, let's Learn to name the symptoms your body is experiencing, to give words to the screaming questions in your head, to validate your response to a devastating discovery. This is a heavy episode. Grab a cup of cold water and take a deep breath. Let's begin.HighlightsD-Day is also known as Discovery Day: You're caught off guard. You didn't know there was something going on with somebody. And then you start connecting the dots and panic sets in. Name what your body is feeling. Symptoms may include: confusion, irritability, headaches, lack of appetite, intrusive thoughts. This can be expected. You think your life looks one way and all of a sudden it looks completely different.Be aware of getting the right support. The wrong support can almost be re-traumatizing.Healing is possible. It can look like symptoms being reduced. The offending spouse is able to say, “What do you need today? What is this like? I'm here. I'm trying to walk in recovery.” And then, that builds trust because trust has been broken. Safety's been broken in the relationship. Long term observable actions make the biggest impact. She has added a missing piece to the book and wanted our viewers to know that she has created a Study Guide which  offers thought provoking questions, easy-to-follow checklists, road-tested tips, healing exercise, insightful writing prompts, and profoundly moving prayers. She explains to Carol the Coach, "When we are ‘on the road' in our relationship, we get along fine and are able to navigate amicably our varying interests and desires.  On the road, we are conscious, mindful, balanced, and aware.  However, when we don't know how to balance our wants and desires with our mate, it's like we get stuck in a ditch. Where we land depends on childhood experiences.  We either default to becoming a people pleaser Others-Focused” (OF) or insist on our own way “Me-Focused.” (MF).  Over time I discovered 21 predictable OF and MF default behaviors, though that's not an exhaustive list. Each ditch behavior represents and extreme behavior that is a subconscious, automatic, preprogrammed, reaction, driven by fear and feeling powerless to do anything else.  When the default behaviors don't work, we switch to the opposite extreme reaction, propelling our counterpart to the opposite ditch. OF's engage in their behaviors to protect themselves from the rejection they experienced in childhood by acting in abandoning ways, while MF's try to protect themselves from abandonment by acting in rejecting ways.  When we identify our reactive behaviors, name the fears driving them, we then can overcome those fears by engaging in a combination of the 24 strategies offered. " Find out how you can create healthier relationships too!

Carol will be interviewing both Gail and Judy who have shifted their vision from establishing and growing our business to what some would call, a grandiose proposition, where we work to reach ALL partners who want and need help overcoming the pain and devastation caused by sexual betrayal. There are so many women out there who desperately need the help, but are unaware of it… and even if they are aware, they either can't afford the help they need, or they don't know how or where to find the resources that are available to help them. This leads us to the first element of our Practice's focus…educating the community around us…stepping out of our APSATS community and into places that have never even heard the term sexual betrayal trauma.. educating, training and shedding light on this topic to anyone end everyone who is willing to listen. Churches, state organizations, community centers, wellness centers etc. time/cost effectiveness ..we can help more people at one time and at a much lower rate.

During phase two of APSATS trauma model, the SA, and often times the partner herself may ask “Why can't I/she get over it” or “why are we stuck and not moving forward”? When working with couples it is essential that the SA learn As much information as he can about betrayal trauma. And part of that information is not only about the timing and the patience that the SA needs to have but also how he needs to have the tools to help his partner move towards forgiveness. The partner never will “get over it” but she can grow from it and use her experience to become an even better version of herself, and eventually the couple can heal as well. But it all starts with safety and stability. Today, Carol the Coach willl be talking to Tiffany Comisky who wants couples to recognize the trauma of partner betrayal. The goal here is to help the partner move into a place in the relationship where she is finally feeling safe enough to feel “connected” with the SA. Much too often the SA wants to move straight into the post traumatic growth stage, especially if he is feeling free from his own pain of addiction and/or isn't dealing with the shame of it so wants to put it behind him as fast as possible. But it simply doesn't work that way. The SA needs to understand the damage that has been done to his partner and to their relationship is not an easy fix, but if he has the attitude of “I'm willing to be here for my partner and help her through this trauma for as long as it takes” then there is hope. The biggest challenge is having the stamina to do this.

Dr. Alexandra Katehakis, world renowned Sex Addiction Therapist and Director of the Center for Healthy Sex in Los Angeles shares a wealth of information today. What is Sex Addiction? Is it real, or just an excuse for bad behavior? She believes that compulsive sexual behavior is a way of masking very deep pain and extreme emotion dysregulation that typically originates in childhood. Dr. Katehakis explains that most sex addicts suffer from an early Attachment Disorder. Case presentations are discussed to highlight the complicated sexual arousal template that develops in the face of early childhood trauma and how shame, humiliation and fear are all fused with sympathetic arousal. The resulting compulsive sexual behavior is sometimes an attempt at self-soothing and sometimes a manifestation of trauma repetition-compulsion. “Shame is both the cause and effect of the Sex Addiction itself.” Dr. Katehakis discusses her most significant contribution to the field…long term psychotherapy for long term change and making the Carnes model a sex positive one. Her ultimate goal for her clients is a healthy sex life and healthy intimate connections. We underline the importance of group therapy as a vehicle to develop a capacity for intimate connecting with others and shame reduction. Other topics of conversation are the difference between sex and love addiction, the impact of sex addiction on the partner, the effect of the hundred billion dollar porn industry on our children and on the sexual functioning of young men, and what kind of conversations parents should consider having with their children about sex and pornography.

All are APSATS trained in the The Multidimensional Partner Trauma Model.  One of the main issues addressed will be the deconstruction and reconstruction of faith. Faith can be broken down due to incorrect clergy advice and handlings, unanswered prayers, the acting out partner unwilling to enter sobriety and recovery, an incorrect victim theology, and years lost with a person mishandling emotions and staying in addiction. Barbara Steffens, Laurie Hall, Catherine Etherington, Lyschel Burket, Kristin Carey and Karen Rellos will address how faith can be rebuilt and we can find our true selves again.
