Most people say they want deeper relationships and more meaningful connection, yet many conversations stay stuck at the surface level. We talk about work, schedules, the weather, or whatever else feels safe. So why is it so hard to move beyond small talk? In this episode, we're exploring the science of meaningful conversation, from curiosity and attention to vulnerability, flirting, and emotional openness. I am joined once again by Nicholas Epley, the John Templeton Keller Distinguished Service Professor of Behavior Science, and Director of the Roman Family Center for Decision Research, at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is the author of Mindwise: How We Understand What Others Think, Believe, Feel, and Want. His latest book is A Little More Social: How Small Choices Create Unexpected Happiness, Health, and Connection. Some of the specific topics we explore in this episode include: Why do so many conversations stay surface-level? What kinds of questions foster closeness? How do we balance vulnerability with oversharing? Can people tell when they don't fully have our attention? What small conversational shifts create deeper connection? DOD looks to move beyond ‘fragmented' CJADC2 deployments with $2B budget request

Tucked into the Pentagon's budget materials for fiscal 2027 is a request for more than $2 billion to purchase command-and-control technology licenses and engineering support for the U.S. combatant commands, Joint Staff and National Guard Bureau. That total includes more than $1.5 billion to expand defense users' access to Palantir's Maven Smart System in support of the Defense Department's “Joint Force AI-Enabled Headquarters initiative” and $60 million for the “Virtual Joint Operations Center (VJOC) initiative.” Little has been disclosed publicly about those two efforts to date, and a Pentagon spokesperson declined to share more information about them with DefenseScoop this week. However, the budget documents indicate that the department is looking to swiftly consolidate “software-centric C2 onto a single pane of glass” over the next fiscal year. The DOD's foundational concept for Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2), which broadly involves breaking down long-standing boundaries between the military services to enable a unified network where all sensors and shooters can seamlessly connect, started to take clear shape in the early 2020s. A House subcommittee will hold an open hearing next week on how frontier artificial intelligence models are shaping the cybersecurity landscape, for good and for ill. The June 4 hearing will be the second the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection has held that was focused at least in part on the subject, following a similar hearing held in December. But unlike at that joint subcommittee hearing, where members also examined other emerging technologies, AI takes center stage next week. It caps a series of closed-door meetings of the Homeland panel where members and staff have been evaluating the intersection of AI and cyber. Digital Resilience Must Move Beyond IT, Telstra International Podcast

Telecom Reseller

Play Episode Listen Later May 15, 2026

By Doug Green “What stands out in this research is not a lack of intent, but a gap between ambition and execution,” said Roary Stasko, CEO of Telstra International. A new Economist Impact study supported by Telstra International finds that organizations in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany are materially underprepared for large-scale digital disruption. In this Technology Reseller News podcast, Roary Stasko, CEO of Telstra International, joined us to discuss what that means for enterprises, service providers and the wider technology community. The study's central finding is clear: the biggest weakness is not simply outdated technology. The deeper issue is that many organizations do not yet have the governance, coordination, visibility and partner readiness needed to respond when digital disruption spreads across suppliers, infrastructure and external dependencies. Stasko described Telstra International as the global arm of Telstra, with more than 75 years of experience in international connectivity and subsea infrastructure. The company operates more than 400,000 kilometers of subsea cable and plays a major role in connecting the U.S. to Asia, Asia to the U.S., and Australia across the wider global network. That global infrastructure role gives Telstra International a front-row view of digital resilience as a business issue, not just a technical one. The Economist Impact research found that only 25% of organizations across the surveyed markets say their responses to digital disruption go according to plan. The study also found that only 21% have a dedicated team responsible for delivering digital resilience initiatives. For technology resellers, MSPs, CSPs and enterprise technology leaders, the message is important. Resilience can no longer be treated as a periodic IT exercise or a narrow cybersecurity project. It needs to become a board-level business capability that is tested across the full ecosystem, including partners, suppliers, cloud platforms, communications networks and critical infrastructure. The research also highlights a major gap between internal confidence and external readiness. Organizations may feel relatively confident about their own cybersecurity plans or regulatory frameworks, but confidence drops sharply when disruption involves external dependencies. That is where weak information sharing, limited joint testing and unclear partner governance can turn a disruption into a larger operational failure. Legacy infrastructure remains another challenge. While many organizations have modernized parts of their technology environment, older systems still support large portions of enterprise operations. That makes it harder to design resilience into systems from the beginning and harder to recover quickly when disruptions occur. The rise of AI adds another layer of urgency. As AI workloads increase demand on networks, data centers, energy systems and water resources, resilience planning must account for more than cyber threats. Physical infrastructure, climate-related risk, power availability and communications continuity are now part of the same conversation. The podcast explores why digital resilience must move from intention to execution. The organizations that perform best will be those that assign clear ownership, test across their ecosystem, modernize infrastructure, and build resilience into the way they operate every day. So many people know deep down that God is calling them to something greater, yet fear, self-doubt, and second-guessing keep them stuck. In this episode, we talk about what it means to trust God enough to move forward even when you feel uncertain or unqualified. God never called us to live confined by fear or limited by insecurity. He calls us to walk boldly in purpose, knowing that He equips those He calls. This episode encourages listeners to stop shrinking back and start saying yes to the calling on their life. Through faith, obedience, and trusting God's direction, we can overcome fear, silence doubt, and step confidently into the purpose God has prepared for us. Your calling is bigger than your fear, and courage begins when you choose to trust God more than your own uncertainty. My 30 Day Faith to Believe devotional:Faith to Believe – 30 Day Devotional eBook - Elevate | Christina JollyConnect with me at:Home - Elevate | Christina JollyGet your FREE eBook download here:Elevate Your Faith in 5 Minutes - Elevate | Christina Jolly

We welcome back Sabastian Niles, President and Chief Legal Officer at Salesforce, to discuss his recent "Open Letter to Law Firms." As the legal industry hits a critical inflection point, Sabastian argues that the era of "AI theater" and small-scale pilots is over. The conversation dives deep into the Innovator's Dilemma facing law firms, the shift toward agentic AI, and how firms must reimagine their business models to remain competitive. Sabastian highlights that legal professionals are uniquely positioned to lead the charge in trusted AI transformation, provided they embrace transparency, data integration, and shared efficiency gains with their clients. Specifically,  he offers four systems law firms and other service providers must establish if they want to succeed in the AI era:  System of Engagement: A unified digital interface that replaces fragmented tools with seamless, real-time collaboration between firms and clients. System of Agency: An ethically governed AI framework that scales firm capacity and reimagines service delivery while maintaining strict human oversight and compliance. System of Work: A trusted, enterprise-grade platform that integrates daily professional applications into a cohesive, high-performance workflow. System of Context: A secure "single source of truth" for client data that ensures strategic counsel is grounded in history while protecting attorney-client privilege. Other Things We Talk About in this Episode The End of the Pilot Era: Moving beyond experimentation to integrated, unified AI platforms is no longer optional—it is a prerequisite for competitiveness. The Relationship Challenge: AI should be used to break down internal silos, allowing firms to bring their "tribal knowledge" and collective intelligence to every client engagement. System of Agency: A shift from manual workflows to "agentic" systems where AI agents handle triage, research, and routine queries (e.g., Salesforce's Outside Counsel Support Agent). Value-Based Evolution: Law firms must navigate the friction between the billable hour and AI-driven efficiency by focusing on superior outcomes and shared savings. Trust as Propulsion: In legal services, trust isn't just a guardrail; it's a growth lever. Mastering "Trusted Agentics" ensures human-aligned AI that respects privilege and confidentiality.

#246Your students read the text and you had comprehension questions ready, yet the conversation never really took off. Instead of an authentic discussion, it became a sequence of teacher questions and short student answers. Today we're going to talk about how to move beyond simple Q&A and toward richer literary and cultural discussions in language classes so students actually respond to each other, interpret ideas, and build real conversations together. Topics in this Episode:Moving beyond Teacher question → Student answer → Teacher confirms → Next questionAuthentic conversation and discussion are challenging to achieve when students believe you (the teacher) are the conversation partner, not each other. True communication begins when the teacher stops being the center of the conversation.Strategies:Use Discussion Moves Instead of Questions: 1. Clarify; 2. Ask for Evidence; 3. Invite Expansion; 4. Offer and Alternate InterpretationPass the Conversation to Students:  Try the three-person rule. After a student speaks, invite two additional students to comment before adding your own comment or moving on.Anchor the Conversation in the Text: Students should reference from the text - a line, a scene, a moment, vocabulary.  Several students may share the same opinion or understanding, bit ground in different parts of the text.Use a Two-Minute Thinking Start:  Give students two minutes of writing first before discussion so that they  enter discussion with ideas already forming.Push Toward Cultural Interpretation: Instead of focusing only on plot, ask questions like " What cultural values appear in this scene?" or "How is this similar or different from our own culture?"When teachers focus on clarifying ideas, pressing for evidence, and inviting students to respond to each other, discussions become more natural, more engaging, and far more meaningful.A Few Ways We Can Work Together:Ready For Tomorrow Quick Win PD for Individual TeachersOn-Site or Virtual Workshops for Language DepartmentsSelf-Paced Program for For Language DepartmentsConnect With Me & The World Language Classroom Community:Website: wlclassrom.comInstagram:  @wlclassroomFacebook Group: World Language ClassroomFacebook:  /wlclassroomLinkedIn: Joshua CabralBluesky: /wlclassroom.bsky.sociaX (Twitter):  @wlclassroomThreads: @wlclassroomSend me a text and let me know your thoughts on this episode or the podcast.

In this episode, I take a closer look at the latest report — not just through the data, but through the conversations it triggered. After sharing several insights on LinkedIn, the response from artists, collectors and gallerists revealed a more complex picture of the art market today. While the report shows modest global growth, much of that momentum is concentrated at the very top. At the same time, discussions around auctions, the role of galleries, and especially gender dynamics highlight a growing gap between market data and lived experience. From improving representation of women artists in the primary market to persistent inequalities at the highest price levels, this episode explores what the numbers show — and what they don't.Drawing on both the report and real-world perspectives from the field, this is a reflection on a market that is not uniform, but layered — shaped by history at the top, and by change and experimentation further down. And yes — this episode is AI-voiced, so if the delivery sounds almost suspiciously composed, now you know why.

In this episode of Better Business, Better Life, Debra Chantry-Taylor sits down with AI expert and CEO of Bizzuka, John Munsell, to explore how businesses can move beyond basic AI usage and into true capability and scale. John shares his journey from financial services to becoming a leader in AI strategy, and introduces powerful tools such as the AI strategy canvas and scalable prompt engineering. These frameworks help businesses integrate AI into their operations in a structured, repeatable way rather than relying on ad hoc experimentation. Through real-world examples, including a case where AI reduced a three-week project to just three days and saved $70,000, John demonstrates the tangible impact of doing AI properly. He explains why using multiple AI models, structuring prompts effectively, and building knowledge-based documents are critical for achieving consistent, high-quality results. The conversation also tackles common barriers to AI adoption, including fear, lack of training, and unclear use cases. John outlines how organisations can elevate their teams by moving up the levels of AI mastery and embedding AI into everyday workflows across marketing, HR, finance, and operations. If you want to turn AI from a novelty into a true business advantage, this episode offers practical insights, frameworks, and next steps to help you scale smarter and faster. Overthinking can keep you stuck, but what if the answer isn't thinking more, it's learning to trust yourself? In this episode of the Starter Girlz Podcast, Jennifer Loehding sits down with former crisis therapist Fedra Tehrani to explore her journey from working in high-intensity mental health settings to building her own practice and helping people move beyond overthinking. With a background in social and clinical psychology, Fedra spent years working in crisis units, supporting individuals through trauma, anxiety, and high-stress situations. Through that experience, she developed a deep understanding of human behavior, patterns of overanalysis, and the ways people get stuck trying to think their way out of problems. Over time, her perspective evolved. She began to recognize that real change doesn't always come from more thinking, but from learning to be present, trust yourself, and take aligned steps forward. In this conversation, she shares what led her into this work, how her experiences shaped her approach, and how she now helps others navigate overthinking, build self-trust, and move forward with more clarity. If your bank is still competing on features, you don't have a strategy. There was a time when products and features made a difference. That time is gone. Digital is now expected. Rates are aligned. Features are replicated. And AI can compare them instantly. If you're leading with just what you offer, you're competing in a race where everyone looks the same. Allison Netzer's "Think Like a Brand, Not Like a Bank" Version 2 shares three years of implementation data from banks and credit unions that stopped competing on features. Her framework explains why leading with product specs is mistaken. Customers first decide emotionally, then justify rationally. This edition includes a reflection on which principles have remained valid and which ones need rethinking. The institutions winning today treat brand as their strategic operating system, not a marketing exercise. They solve customer pain through counterintuitive thinking that violates industry patterns. In this episode, we discuss what's changed since 2022, what surprised Allison in the real-world execution of these ideas, and why moving beyond product thinking may be the only way to avoid becoming invisible in a marketplace defined by sameness.

David Bennett's story starts in a Sydney pub where a supernatural encounter transformed a gay atheist activist into one of today's most thoughtful voices on faith and sexuality. Now an Oxford-trained theologian, David helps church leaders navigate what might be the most challenging pastoral question we face—without defaulting to culture war scripts that leave everyone exhausted. What makes this conversation different is David's refusal to choose sides. He introduces a framework of "solidarity and holy fellowship" that holds radical inclusion and biblical holiness together, creating space for people to wrestle authentically with hard questions. If you've felt trapped between being dismissed as either too affirming or too exclusionary, David offers language for a third way forward, one that doesn't sacrifice either welcome or conviction. This is pastoral theology from someone who lives the tension daily, offering church leaders practical wisdom for walking with people through messy, beautiful journeys toward Jesus.David Bennett is author of "A War of Loves" and holds a PhD in Christian ethics from Oxford University.Want more resources for your leadership journey? The teachers agree that students need more accurate and efficient methods, but many still believe offering multiple strategies only adds confusion. Today, we're continuing our series on sharing the gospel, and what we're covering today is about the Great Commission. Have you heard that term before? Christianity's great at using terms the general public isn't familiar with, and sometimes we use terms even we aren't familiar with as believers. A recent study shows that more than 50% of U.S. churchgoers don't know what that term Great Commission means. And when asked if they had heard of the Great Commission, half of U.S. churchgoers say they don't know that term. Maybe our priorities need tweaking.Matthew 28:19 says, “Go and make disciples of all nations. Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” And though the Great Commission is not a term used in the Bible, it does describe the command Jesus gave us to share the Good News of His sacrifice for our sins. In this way, He provides a way for people to be reconciled to God, and this is the greatest news anyone will ever hear. Christians should be excited about this action plan.Matthew chapter seven indicates that the path leading to God is narrow, and that many are on the broad path that leads away from God. This truth should motivate us as Christians to fulfill Christ's Great Commission. And the Bible tells us that this activity will have an endpoint. We should have a sense of urgency about that. The Gospel of Jesus Christ was literally born in the Middle East. Jesus' disciples took His words to heart and began preaching and teaching about Him in Israel, then to all the regions around the Mediterranean basin. From there, the Gospel spread quickly into Europe, and beyond.Today, even with all our technology and hundreds of years of sending missionaries to remote parts of the world, not everyone has heard the Good News about Jesus. We have our marching orders. It's time to move. Let's pray.Father, we know that no matter what time is passing. We want all people to come to a saving faith in Your Son Jesus. Remind us daily that we should have a sense of urgency about sharing your good gift with everyone we come into contact with. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! Dr. Kurt Ver Beek In this episode of the Nonprofit Leadership podcast, host Dr. Rob Harter sits down with Dr. Kurt Ver Beek — longtime sociologist, adjunct professor at Calvin University, and co‑founder of the Honduran‑based nonprofit Association for a More Just Society (ASJ). Kurt has lived in Honduras for 30 + years and helps lead ASJ's mission of advancing justice through structural reform rather than simply charity. Their discussion explores how nonprofits can transition from short‑term relief approaches to tackling systemic issues, particularly in contexts of high violence, corruption, and migration. Key Topics Include: The motivation behind founding ASJ in Honduras and shifting focus from relief to justice‑oriented work. The four‑part strategy ASJ employs: investigation, alliance building, communications, and lobbying/incidence. Real‑world examples from Honduras: tackling police corruption, reducing homicide rates, auditing government institutions. Navigating donor expectations when working on long‑term systemic change rather than immediate tangible outcomes. Insights on the migration‑to‑the‑U.S. debate: root causes in origin countries like Honduras, and how systems reform might reduce migration pressures. Reflections on international aid: what works, what doesn't, and how U.S. federal funding cuts are reshaping NGOs' strategies. The distinction between charity (relief), development (capacity building) and justice (systemic transformation) — and why justice work is harder, riskier, but essential. On this week’s MiniPod, our hosts Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers are joined by Maurice Mitchell, the National Director of the Working Families Party for a conversation on breaking the two-party system and getting corporate (and AIPAC) money out of politics. The WFP is a political party aimed at taking power from the rich and powerful, and putting it in the hands of the working class through a broad multi-racial coalition. They run their own candidates AND run candidates through Democratic Party primaries, candidates who have fought for higher wages, a fairer criminal justice system, getting big money out of politics, and more. “Entrepreneurship is scary as well as compelling in a weird way.” – Shay Prosser That's the quiet admission of someone who's lived the tension of building something that matters—between fear & purpose, risk & reward—and kept moving anyway. Shay started in chaos: a newborn on the floor, the economy unraveling, & a business idea that couldn't wait for permission. It wasn't perfect timing; it was purpose knocking early. When her one-to-one financial coaching couldn't reach enough people, she rebuilt the model—bringing financial education into workplaces & later onto military bases with the USO. That pivot became her pattern: find the gap, build the bridge. So when business owners began coming to her not just for answers but for direction, she created spaces to think differently—to set bold goals, make smart moves, & scale with clarity, courage, & connection. Today, she helps business owners do what she's always done—move forward, even when the path isn't clear. Not with ten-year dreams, but ninety-day wins. Progress, not perfection. Because growth doesn't come from having it all together—it comes from showing up anyway. To learn more, connect with her through North 12 Partners or Birthing of Giants. Shay reminds us what Amelia Earhart said best: “The most effective way to do it is to do it.”

Welcome to the Like Attracts Like Mindshift Challenge! Over the next 21 days, we are dropping a podcast a day with our most powerful mindset shifts and techniques. Join us as we go on a journey of self discovery and uncover the truth of who we are. On Day 12, we discuss the concepts of people pleasing and imposter syndrome. We keep people in our lives that help us reinforce the stories we've been telling. As we shift identities, the people externally will exist to challenge the new beliefs we are creating.  Action Step Today:  Think about the people in your life right now, and ask yourself these questions to examine if either of these two energies are at play: People pleasing: How are people outside of you responding to the changes you're making, and how does that mirror you're level of sureness? Are you dropping back down to your old beliefs to make other people feel comfortable? Imposter Syndrome: Do you feel guilt for wanting a better life?  Are you experiencing feelings of "leaving people behind"? These are all tricks we will use to drop back down to our old story.    As always, if you want to discuss how any of these topics pertain to a specific area of your life, book a mindset shift session below: 1:1 Mindset & Performance Mentorship Calls: If you would like to book a session to move forward in the area discussed in this show or any other areas of your life, visit link below for further resources or booking schedule  https://hoo.be/patmahan   CONNECT WITH ME ON: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/likeattractslike11 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thelikeattractslikepodcast TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRDc1pT4/

How Altair's AI Fabric Helps Businesses Move Beyond Pilot Projects

The Tech Blog Writer Podcast

Artificial intelligence is no longer confined to experiments in labs or one-off pilot projects. For many enterprises, it is becoming the backbone of how they operate, innovate, and compete. But as companies race to deploy AI, the biggest challenge is not whether the technology works, but whether the foundations exist to scale it safely and effectively. In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I'm joined by Christian Buckner, Senior Vice President of Data and AI Platform at Altair, a company known for combining rocket science with data science. Christian unpacks the concept of an AI Fabric, a framework that harmonizes enterprise data and embeds AI directly into a universal model. Rather than scattered tools and isolated projects, the AI Fabric acts as a living system of intelligence, helping organizations move faster, make better decisions, and unlock new kinds of automation. We talk about how global enterprises from automotive suppliers to petrochemical giants are already using Altair's technology to improve safety, optimize production, and cut costs. Christian shares examples including a transportation company that boosted revenue by $50 million in its first year of AI-driven dynamic pricing and a healthcare provider that saved $17 million in analysis time using knowledge graphs for drug discovery. The conversation also explores the hype and the risks around AI agents. While it is easy to spin up a proof of concept with a Python library, Christian explains why real enterprise impact requires governance, monitoring, and infrastructure to make agents trustworthy and sustainable. He likens it to building HR systems for AI, where agents need onboarding, oversight, and performance evaluation to operate alongside humans. We also touch on Altair's acquisition by Siemens and what this means for the future of industrial AI. By integrating Altair's data and AI expertise with Siemens' deep industrial systems, enterprises can add intelligence without ripping out existing infrastructure. The result is not about replacing workers but enabling them to become what Christian calls “10x employees,” augmented by AI tools and agents that multiply their effectiveness. For anyone curious about how AI will change product design, operations, and enterprise decision-making, this episode offers a rare inside look at the technology foundations being built today.
