I’m honored to speak with Dr. Paul Lam on health and wellness issues he has championed for over 40 years. Paul was born in Vietnam but was left as a baby with his grandmother in China. At sixteen, malnourished and arthritic, he escaped to Hong Kong during Chairman Mao's disastrous regime. From there, he moved to Australia, where he pursued his dream of becoming a physician. In 2010, he and his colleagues established the Tai Chi for Health Institute. His tai chi programs have been used to train over 10 million people around the world. Paul and I will be discussing a range of topics, such as the nature of relationships, using tai chi practice to create harmony and wellness, and the important role of safety for learning and growth. His long career as a physician and world-renowned tai chi master has given him deep insights into these topics that you won’t want to miss. The following is just a taste of Paul’s insights. Q: Based on your experience, what can you tell us that might be helpful to us in moving beyond our own fears and our own sense of powerlessness to create the lives that we truly desire? Paul: The will to live, to learn and to enjoy life keeps pushing us to work harder and to love others. Q: What would you say are the most important benefits of practicing tai chi? Paul: The slow, smooth, movements, and the coordination of body and mind, the right posture and the right breathing all contribute to being mindfully present and that brings a sort of inner strength and an inner serenity. Q: What have your many years of mindful tai chi practice and training taught you about healing challenging relationships? Paul: Tai chi practice trains us to listen to the incoming force and then absorb, redirect, or use the opponent's force to combine with ours to reach a win-win situation. I can translate that to life in our interactions with people. All relationships have to do with interaction. Q: Based on your experience, what can you tell us about the importance of having a safe place from which to learn and grow? Paul: The center of emotional security having to do with survival is in our brain stem. Having someone we feel we can trust with our insecurities is a part of survival. It allows us to open up and grow. When asked if there’s one last thing he’d like our listeners to hear, Paul says, “I would love everybody to think that anyone can do tai chi. Have a go. In Australia, it means have a try.” Dr. Paul Lam’s latest book, Born Strong: From Surviving the Great Famine to Teaching Tai Chi to Millions, shares his life experiences and his belief that no matter how desperate things are, there's always hope.

Letting go of my pride, and ego to do what it takes to make my dreams come true is what I personally need to do now. Many people in their lives are faced with the decision to do whatever it takes or to step down and accept a mediocre life. All the greatest entrepreneurs I look up to today have gone through this place, doing WHATEVER it takes to achieve their dreams. The final decision for me has been made and I'm doing whatever it takes. What will you do?

It’s not easy to open up discussion about personal trauma, hardships, or the feeling of life ‘falling apart.’ As humans, it’s more comfortable to retreat, hide, and busy ourselves with bullshit in place of confronting the obstacles. Lately, there has been a glorious explosion in the exploration of Mother Ayahuasca in the western world, and although many have flocked to the medicine without intention, preparation, or even respect for the power, the Mother is awakening mass healing in those who are aware, prepared, and respectful. I’ve spent several years educating myself on Ayahuasca through deep conversations and other various resources, without actually exploring the medicine myself. It really isn’t my time yet, and I have faith that I’ll know when it is. But, as I opened up my laptop to meet with Mary Shores for a discussion about business, I forgot that she had just returned from a 10-day Ayahuasca ceremony in the Amazon rainforest, guided by the powers of Ayahuasca. Naturally, our conversation explored this experience and the healing that lifted her out of her life-long hardships and trauma. Anyone that has explored Ayahuasca may know that it’s generally impossible to put the experience into words that others can understand, but in this episode I was blown away by Mary’s ability to do just that! If you are interested in rebirth, healing, alignment, and awakening.. this episode will guide you into those powers. Special thanks to Paul Lam for connecting me with Mary, as this conversation directly healed several deep personal hardships I have been experiencing. Finding your "why" is important. From Apple to Harley Davidson each brand has a solid understanding of their "why" and by pinpointing this you'll be able to have loyal customers, people who understand your "why" will support you.
I had a conversation with my little brother about life as he's coming up in a time where he's finishing up school and about to embark on a new chapter of his life. With over $50,000 dollars in school debt, the normal way of thinking about this is quickly finding a job or maybe 2 jobs to work as quickly as possible Another idea I had was why not embark on a travel adventure to learn more about the world and yourself? I think it's time for a new way of thinking.

The first quarter of 2018 is done, and I had some time to think about what has happened so far up until now. Digressing everything about what the plan is, and where I'm heading to next. On my last day in Toronto, I meet one of the locals, Paul Lam. It's like history repeats itself - the same thing happened in Chiang Mai in January, where Paul arrived just as I was leaving. Paul is an inspiring cool entrepreneur, mindset coach, and digital nomad. He published an ebook about being held at gunpoint and how it changed his life. You can get it here. Also, he's also a podcaster with his extremely popular podcast The Path Hunters Podcast. I had the honor of being a guest on one of the episodes. Listen here or in your podcast app.
I recently did an episode with Shelli Varela from The Yes Effect Podcast as Shelli and I chat quite often about life, and one day she asked me to join her on her podcast and talk about why I do what I do. And let me tell you how raw and uncomfortable it was for me to go into that, and dive deep into why I do what I do. I thought this was a wonderful idea to share this episode because it's a wonderful way for me to connect with YOU the Path Hunters tribe and get to know where I come from a bit.
Today's guest is all about creating his life by design. He's a travelling entrepreneur, a wanderer of the planet and the host of The Path Hunters Podcast. His name is Paul Lam, and this is The YES Effect Show! Paul Lam is the host of the Pathhunters podcast and author of Gun to Your Head: From Gun Point to Crash which hit #1 on Amazon during it's debut. I brought Paul onto the podcast to chat about the book, his launch and the events he chose to write about. I was blown away by how deep and real Paul got in the book. From sharing about the abortion he went through with his girlfriend, to being robbed at gunpoint, to losing his car in an accident. Paul shares about the impact all these events had on him and how he was able to overcome them. The One Thing to Takeaway - Face Your Advertises In the podcast, we dive into depth how Paul has been able to overcome adversity in his life. During the conversation, Paul shared his 3 step process. 1 - Let Go. The first step is to begin letting go of the event and letting yourself know that you will move on. It doesn't matter how difficult or challenging it may seem, you will move forward. Or as Paul said "this too will pass" a quote I remind myself of regularly. 2 - Be Present To It - one of the most important parts to letting an incident go is being present to it. Not allowing it to hold too much weight against you. This will allow you to come to peace with it as opposed to trying to run away from it. 3 - Reach Out To People - Paul says one of the most important things you can do is to reach out to others for support. Share what you're going through and be willing to ask for help. For Paul it meant writing a book about the difficult moments he's gone through in his life. He wanted to make these experiences an opportunity for others to learn. This may not be the path for everyone but reaching out to someone and letting them know what's happening is immensely beneficial to overcoming our adversities. Seven Things You'll Takeaway the promise Paul made to himself when he was being mugged at gunpoint what was the most difficult aspect of the abortion? what's changed for Paul since being mugged at gunpoint Paul's process for overcoming adversity what is a PathHunter? the deeper purpose behind Paul's podcast and his motivation and much, much more Connect With Paul Pathhunters.comFacebookInstagram - @pathhunters Mentioned in the Podcast - Tuan Nyugen- Theresa Gagnon

"The opposite of fear is love. Love of the challenge. Love of the work. The pure joyous passion to take a shot at our dream and see if we can pull it off." -Steven Pressfield This episode is a little bit different. Instead of me interviewing a guest, we did a collaborative podcast. What is a collaborative podcast? Well, let me tell you. On this episode, Calvin Simpson, Paul Lam and myself all sit down to tell you about taking a shot at our dreams. In the last 2 years, all 3 of us have started podcasts. We’ve put aside the conventional and have decided to travel the path less traveled. In this episode, we share about our journey thus far and what it’s like being digital entrepreneurs. Backstory For This Episode Recently the three of us were part of a mastermind group. For 4 months we all met every week, online to learn from our coach, Jay Wong, about how to grow our podcasts. Jay runs the Innerchange Maker podcast and has revenue of +$100,000/annually so he’s the type of mentor we knew could take us to the next level. As Tony Robbins says, instead of figuring everything out yourself, find someone who has cracked the riddle and model them. That was exactly the point of this mastermind. For Jay to share his insight and wisdom with us. And for us to model and duplicate with our own audiences. At the end of 4 months of meeting online every week, the three of us thought it would be a great idea to meet in person as we all live in different parts of the country. We decided to all meet in Toronto to see Jayson Gaignard speak on how to build a 7 figure business through networking. So that’s what we did. We booked an AirBnb, made travel plans and met in Toronto. When we finally gathered we thought it would be great to have all three of us do a podcast together. Because if 3 podcasters meet under one roof, what else would we do? 7 Things You’ll Learn Why not you? How to meet the most amount of people at networking events and get out of conversations you don’t want to be in How fear is connected to your self-worth The amount of money you need to retire (and it depends all based on how luxurious a lifestyle you want but there is still a set way to figure out this number) Why we each love podcasting Who are “unsong heros” and why you should celebrate them The most important messages we want to share with the world And much, much more. We want to hear from you. So message us to let us know your thoughts on this episode!!! Contact info below! Hey my dear path hunters! This episode will be an awesome one with your good friend Paul Lam. I wanted to touch base on a few things and catch up on how things are going with my life as you all know I'm basically the human guinea pig to my own podcast experimenting on things and bringing it to all you path hunters to try out. As the title shows I recently took up a sponsor for the podcast. For about a year now I really didn't want to find and worry about a sponsor for the podcast as I know what it was like listening and being bombarded with so many ads and products that sometimes I feel like I'd be doing all you path hunters a disservice. But from a conversation I had with one of my podcaster friends I was told that it be a great thing bringing on a sponsor for the show and aligning with a product that you really like personally and having your audience enjoy it as well too.

As I move through the motions of life, there will come so many obstacles in front of you. Whether it's your family wanting you to be safe, and come back, whether it's financial related, whether it's a fight against yourself. We're all human and all this is normal. As much as you want to turn back and be where it's safe, realize that if you do go back you'll want to be exactly where you are today! So don't give up. Just keep walking, keep saying "yes." Have faith that everything will work out. As long as it's coming from the right place and you are 100% genuine then everything will work out. I know that deep down somehow or someway this will all work out. Continue the fight. This is a message to all you brave path hunters out there. You WILL MAKE IT. Believe, have faith! I love you all. Paul Lam
Hello Path Hunters. My guest today is a mens empowerment coach with a mission to reach 1 million men to live a powerful life. For all my female path hunters out there I still recommend you listen to the episode as the tips and actionable content can still be applied as well. Tim Matthews is a mens empowerment coaching with the goal of helping 1 million men to live a powerful life, by being vulnerable, retelling the story that you've been telling yourself your whole life. He gets into alot of practical tips on how to feel from your heart instead of coming from your head. I really enjoyed interviewing Tim for the podcast For more information check out pathhunters.com take care! Paul Lam
Fellow pathhunters, loving all the interviews and the awesomeness that comes into the podcast. My guest today has an amazing story to tell, she left her job to go travel around the world for a year with a company called Remote year. She is now focusing on other projects and is super passionate about it. Kate was a part of remote year where they have 75 people travel together for 1 year and at the same time maintain remote jobs where they can work online. It's a wonderful way to travel full time and make friends along the way and to enjoy the digital nomad lifestyle. for more info check out pathhunters.com I love you all cheers! Paul Lam
Fellow Path hunters, a good friend of mine connected me and my guest here today as he thought I would resonate with my guest's journey and what she's been through. And Boy! he was right. , you know sometimes you know that you have this inner calling inside you, calling you to go somewhere in the world, and experience you're meant to experience. Which leads me to say that today's guest followed her inner calling. She's done some amazing things, she's a holistic therapist, yoga teacher, storyteller, mental health advocate, speaker, and writer. I have in the house Laurita Gorman, Laurita is such a beautiful soul where we had an amazing conversation about her journey, and how everything I resonate with so much, it got to the point where I felt like a parrot for repeating everything. Laurita talks about her calling to India even though she didn't speak the language, had never been there before, she just knew that she had to go there and go there alone. And so much more, check out all the info at pathhunters.com and how to support Laurita as well. I love you all take care! Paul Lam
Greetings Fellow Path Hunters. Checking in from Chiangmai Thailand here, after a week long struggle with figuring out how to solve my money problem, a place to stay, and venturing into a place that I've never been before in my life I think everything has been sorted out. This leads me to say that this by no means was easy, it was gosh darn hard and uncomfortable even for me. My message for everyone listening to this is that if you're trying something new in your life, it's definitely not going to come easy you will feel uncomfortable and it will make you want to run backwards the other to whats most comfortable for you. BUT DON'T DO IT! If you decide to go back you'll want to go back to where you are right now when you get too comfortable and you'll be stuck in this loop. PUSH ON FORWARD, AND RISE ABOVE THIS PROCESS. get inspired by all this. check out pathhunters.com for some more info on this episode. I love you all, Your friend Paul Lam :)
Hey beautiful Path Hunters, I'll tell you a bit right now, that it kicks in a bit later, stepping into who you really are, giving up everything to leave go to a country that you've never been, prepared to build a business around your lifestyle. It takes a bit of time to kick in and realize all this is happening, but when it does its an amazing feeling. Right now I'm going through that process and I don't know what to say, other than I cant believe I'm doing this but I'm doing this for the impact, for my calling, for my dreams, and especially for those I am SERVING. Creating a positive impact in people, have them get ignited and feel amazing. with that being said I will update everyone on what's going on when I arrive. to all my path hunters I love you all, thank you for listening. your friend Paul Lam :)
