We are very excited about the new journey that he is going on and we get to watch him succeed in all the new ways that we know he will.  While we will miss our friend on the business end of things, he is still our friend and that will never change so family vacations, podcast guesting, and late-night phone calls will still be happening. Don't worry though because the LI podcast, community, and Lifestyle Launch Academy is still going strong and won't be going away anytime soon.  Change isn't inherently bad but a chance to redesign, rethink, and reimagine a bigger and better version of your life and how you live it. In today's episode of the As Told by Nomads Podcast, join me and Jason Moore as we talk about how he built the lifestyle that allows him to pursue and make a career out of his passion for traveling. As the co-founder of the community platform Location Indie and the host of Zero to Travel Podcast, Jason helps us understand how passion for traveling differs from other passions, the main goal of Zero to Travel and Location Indie, what shapes leadership, his view on how communities are formed, and so much more.Traveling – A long time loveSome forms of passion are like sparklers. Sparklers are hot and bright when ignited or sparked. But shortly after, they, too, quickly fade away. They give out this attractive display only to die off faster. Some passions are like that. Some people start them and last months or a year until a new passion is found. Conversely, traveling is not like that. Although, pursuing passion is not always as easy as cake. Jason shares that there'll be times when you'll think, "I can't do this anymore." But despite that, things somehow always find a way to win him back. About Jason Moore:After college, Jason was clueless about pretty much everything, including how to realize a dream to travel the world. Having little money and over $20,000 in student debt didn't help. Not one to give up easily (except when he attempted to run long distances). Trav and Jason started their community because they knew that getting around other like-minded people on the same path just plain works. Not to mention it's a TON of fun.Outline of the episode:[03:40]Jason Moore – on starting a podcast right after college[09:00]How Jason managed to release podcast episodes every week for the past eight years[15:19]What problems do Zero to Travel and Location Indie aim to solve?[18:49]Jason Moore – on finding his wife and the desire for location independence[29:05]Limiting beliefs can have an impact on one's identity[35:19] Give yourself permission to take yourself more seriously[42:39]Some leaders just don't get the goal of leadershipResources:Zero to Travel website: https://zerototravel.com/Podcast: https://zerototravel.com/travel-podcast/Location Indie website: https://locationindie.com/Connect with Tayo Rockson and the As Told By Nomads Podcast on:Personal Website: https://tayorockson.comUYD Management: https://uydmanagement.com/UYD Collective: https://tayorockson.com/uyd-collectiveLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tayorockson Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcastTwitter: https://twitter.com/TayoRockson See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In this episode, Jason and Amrit talk about how committing to what you really want can change your life in so many positive ways. They dive deep into podcasting and travelling, how travelling helps you become more resourceful which can be applied to entrepreneurship, how being a digital nomad can help you live a sustainable travel life and why it is so important to have other people's perspectives. Jason chose a travel lifestyle straight out of college. Despite having $20k in student debt, he followed his heart and went backpacking through Europe. This experience made him determined to make travel part of his life in a more permanent way.His travel lifestyle has changed over the last 20 years. He crossed the USA by car, worked as a tour manager for a famous indie rock band, and spent a decade working as a digital nomad with various businesses. After his own experience travelling the world for a decade, he founded a location independent community and a podcast, through which he has mentored hundreds of entrepreneurs, helping them build a side hustle and break free of their 9 to 5 job so they can do more of what they love in life. Podcasting has changed his life. He believes it helps listeners and you as well. It helps you walk in someone else's shoes which gives you a new perspective to learn from. Jason Moore is the founder of the Zero To Travel Podcast, where he helps people travel the world no matter what their situation or experience is. He's also the co-founder of the Location Indie community, Camp Indie and the Lifestyle Launch Academy.Travelling is about being respectful and adjusting your behaviour to the different communities and cultures. It is a time for reflection. You can learn from new perspectives and realise that the way you have been raised is just one perspective amongst so many more. This is an opportunity to start questioning your beliefs and have thoughts of your own.Putting self development expectations on any trip can only lead to disappointment. There is a chance you don't find what you are looking for. Jason encourages people to just dive in and live the experience as it comes. With solo travelling you get to have very interesting interactions. It takes you out of your comfort zone, you realise how resourceful you are and learn how to do things on your own in a much more comfortable way. It can be frightening for many people depending on their cultural background; the media messages that you have been bombarded with within your circle year after year. You need to act in spite of your fears because if not you will never get to do the things you want to do. And, even though Bulgaria is very high on my list, I didn’t want to have to wait a year or so to put out an episode on it because I don’t want other people to wait that long to go. Joining me today is someone who has been kind enough to bring me beers from Cincinnati and bring Whit a stuffed Hey Hey doll from Moana, who has taught me everything (literally, everything) I know about Bulgaria, who is an integral part of our Location Indie team, and who can spur wanderlust in me about as quick as any person I’ve ever met, Mitko Karshovski from ThatRemoteLife.com and host of the That Remote Show podcast.   Check out the full show notes

Jason also shares what he would tell people who would like to travel more often, what to him are the best ways to connect with people, and what he thinks one of the most important habits people can develop is. On connecting with fellow travelers, Jason has this to say, “I think it’s just about asking questions, being genuinely curious, and listening. Those are really the 3 basic things.”

When asking how our lives might look different if we were to follow our hearts and dreams, so many of us point to travel. For most of us, travel represents freedom in one way or another - the ability to do whatever we want to, go wherever we want to, whenever we want to do it. But many of us never do it - or do it only in the limited, accepted, prescribed way - for a couple weeks of vacation a year, here or there. We feel confined to one place, limited by time, money, and location-dependent obligations. No so for Jason Moore. After college, Jason longed to travel - to take off in the spirit of adventure. Despite $20,000 in student loan debt, Jason took a leap of faith that he could support himself on the road, and took off. What he found on his way was that many of the mind stories that stop us from traveling are actually made up of myths. That is, it's not actually impossible to make money while traveling - in fact, he was able to pay off his student loans while traveling and working on the road. Jason's own experience learning how to travel and experience freedom and location independence soon became his passion to serve and help others. Along the way, he partnered up with fellow traveler and friend, Travis Sherry, and created an online community, “Location Indie”, for people living this so-called alternative lifestyle. Jason comes through in this interview as a down-to-earth, warm, and easy-going guy, and also a deeply knowledgeable and experienced expert in the art of travel and freedom. Enjoy! 6 Things you Need to Know About Being a Digital Nomad   Have you ever dreamed of leaving everything behind and travelling the world? It sounds like a fantasy, but in the 21st century, the internet and mobile technology is making the dream of the "digital nomad" a reality for many. Recently I had the opportunity to sit down with Jason Moore of the Zero to Travel podcast.   Zero to Travel is a podcast with a powerful mission: to help people travel the world on their terms no matter what their situation or experience. Over many years of travelling and meeting people Jason began to observe how people were incorporating travel into their lives. He became passionate about helping people explore the myriad options available to them when travelling the world. With his friend and business partner Travis he's created a paid community called "Location Indie" that helps people looking to become location independent find and connect with others with the same mindset.   Our full conversation was flowing and unstructured, "nomadic" if you will, but also quite enlightening. I encourage you to check out the entire thing at pathunters.com. In the meantime, here are 6 things you need to know about becoming a digital nomad, according to Jason.     1. It's not as simple as it seems, but also not as hard. It seems counterintuitive, but becoming a digital nomad is both simple and complex, depending on how you look at it. Logistically, it's quite simple. You can quit your job, give your two weeks notice and be on a plane the next day if you chose. However, as with any big change in life, there are bound to be obstacles. Often these obstacles will come from within. Questions such as, “If I quit my job am I giving up my career? Is this going to hurt me in the long run? How am I going to earn money?” must be addressed before making such a huge change in your life. 2. You need to start with an intention. Once you make the decision that this is something you want to do, you need to commit to it. Starting with an intention allows you to build the confidence you'll need to overcome obstacles and find more creative ways to achieve your goal. 3. Understand that it may not happen right away. Major life changes like this require a period of transition. Very few of us are in a position to quit our jobs and leave on a plane tomorrow for parts unknown. You have to accept that you're investing in this process by educating yourself. 4. When developing a location independent business, start with your skills. A big part of being a digital nomad is of course having a location independent income source. More than likely this will be some sort of small business. The first step in creating such a business is to look through your skill set and find something you can offer to people. For example, perhaps you're really organized and know your way around social media. You could offer your services as a virtual assistant. Everyone has at least one skill that can be turned into some sort of service. The trick is to be creative. 5. Look to existing resources. Platforms like upwork.com and Fiverr.com allow you to put your services out there quickly and easily, giving you the opportunity to build experience and a client base. If you make artwork, you can sell items through Etsy.com. These sites offer you the opportunity to get your business going quickly and easily. 6. Give yourself permission to make mistakes. Understand that, in the beginning, you're going to make a lot of mistakes – this is the simple truth. If you can make peace with that idea, you'll be able to weather them far more easily and more importantly, learn from them.   The life of a digital nomad is not for everyone of course, but for those with the right mindset and a taste for adventure, it can be an incredibly empowering and life-changing experience. If you'd like to know more about becoming a digit

When you travel, you never know who you will meet, or what kind of experiences you will have. Half the fun of adventuring is not knowing where you will be lead next, and Jason Moore is a firm believer in trying new things while you travel. Jason Moore, a resident of Oslo, Norway, hosts the Zero to Travel podcast, because he hopes to help people achieve their desire to live a life of travel, and help them travel on their own terms. He also runs Location Indie, a podcast based on the community support system of people who want to work while they travel, work remotely, and live independently. Jason’s story, which he calls “Thumbs Up,” gives us an inside look at the life of a hitchhiker, through the eyes of Jason, his friend, Gary, and their hitchhiking race around Scotland. Join Jason on a 546-mile quasi-circumnavigation grassroots race around Scotland, where he goes wild camping, visits eight iconic Scottish checkpoints, and meets a number of people who changed his life, who you can hear about in detail in the story. Jason’s adventure traveling through Scotland was an experience which he called, in a word, “transformative”. When you travel, you can give as much as you take; you can give energy, stories, a listening ear, and, most importantly, companionship. You learn to trust, and you realize that people really are awesome. “Many things happen when you step out on the side of the road and stick your thumb out,” Jason says, “but I think the best thing is the reminder that we are all connected, and this world is filled with wonderful and kind souls.” If you ever see Gary, or anyone else, hitchhiking, consider pulling over and giving them a lift; you might be pleasantly surprised by what happens. And if you are the one traveling, try putting your thumb out sometime, and you might just learn something new about humanity. Join Jason and Hayden as they learn to trust humanity and travel around Scotland for a time. You never know what you might learn about trust, humanity, and the energy that comes from hitchhiking. 10:10 - Jason shares his thoughts on the traveler’s mindset, and how anyone in any position can have the traits and mindset of a traveler. 13:38 - Jason discusses his podcast, Zero to Travel, which helps people achieve their desire to live a life of travel, and travel on their terms. He believes a love of travel is a value in life that everyone shares, and that a passion for travel isn’t really something that really ever goes away. 15:55 - Jason tells us more about his community and his other podcast, both named Location Indie. He tells us about the community support system of people who want to work while they travel, work remotely, and live independently. 18:37 - Jason Moore begins to tell his story, which he has titled: “Thumbs Up”. He reminds us that, if you don’t make time for travel, it just doesn’t happen. The main part of Jason’s story features a Scottish hitchhiking race, beginning on May 1, 2014, and continuing for several days on an epic 546-mile quasi-circumnavigation around Scotland. He had to visit eight iconic Scottish checkpoints on the way and get photo evidence of each checkpoint.
