Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news and breaks down a number of recent Steelers trending topics, including Terry Bradshaw's controversial comments about Chuck Noll. Is prime Aaron Rodgers better than prime Patrick Mahomes? Paul reacts to Big Ben's recent comments and discusses why the Steelers' former Super Bowl-winning QB would come out and say that on his podcast. Also, was Bill Cowher correct in saying that Rodgers needs "the keys" to Pittsburgh's offense in order to be successful this season? And are the T.J. Watt trade rumors viable, or will Omar Khan, Mike Tomlin and company finally get a record-setting deal done before training camp? Lastly, Paul weighs in on the Pirates' recent slump back to reality and why owner Bob Nutting and general manager Ben Cherington still need to clean house for everyone not named Paul Skenes and Andrew McCutchen. Investigators are looking 2 individual pitches in this story that apparently altered betting markets. The red-hot Pirates have won 6 straight games, but how long can they keep this going? Jason said this run does not change his mind about the current landscape of their front office. At what point should Ben Cherington be vindicated for his work? Jason does not trust Cherington to make notable trades involving Mitch Keller or David Bednar if those opportunities arise later this month. Jason fully expects Don Kelly to be back next season, but how much credit should Cherington get for that? Going back to the Derek Shelton firing, Jason believes it was a Bob Nutting call to make that change 38 games in. What should the expectation be for Spencer Horwitz?

Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to react to a busy week in Pittsburgh sports news. How much pressure is on Steelers coach Mike Tomlin following the firing of the Penguins' Mike Sullivan? Will he face expectations to win in 2025, after GM Omar Khan decided to keep names like George Pickens and T.J. Watt rather than trade them for future draft capital? And amid the likely signing of veteran Aaron Rodgers? Or will get get a chance to coach the team in 2026, when it holds 10 draft picks and may be able to seek its QB of the future, with names like Arch Manning, Drew Allar, LaNorris Sellers and Nico Iamaleava likely coming out of the college ranks? Later, the guys tackle the Penguins' new direction without Sullivan. What changed for GM Kyle Dubas between last year and this year, given the reality that expectations for 2024-25 were low? Could a new coach jolt the team like Dan Bylsma did in 2009 or Sullivan did in 2016 to spark Stanley Cup runs from Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang? How much runway does Kyle Dubas have to turn the Penguins into contenders? And is the perception of Sidney Crosby's involvement in front office moves fit reality? Then in the third segment, airing on the PG's Pirates YouTube channel, our duo analyzes the continued lack of results in the win-loss column despite some improvement offensively. Is this just a bad team, even if it continues to show some improvement? What does that mean for GM Ben Cherington and manager Derek Shelton in owner Bob Nutting's eyes? Is Enmanuel Valdez a useful player? Or only looking good by comparison? And how will things shake out in the rotation with Bubba Chandler becoming hard to deny in the minors, Jared Jones on the mend and Carmen Mlodzinski still struggling after the first time through opposing batting orders? Welcome to Episode 80 of Tablesetters! Today we're joined by Jack Wilson — former All-Star shortstop, 12-year MLB veteran, and one of the most respected infielders of the 2000s. He anchored the Pirates through a key stretch in the franchise's history and now brings that same passion to coaching the next generation as the manager of the Greeneville Flyboys in the Appalachian League. But Jack's baseball story doesn't stop there — it continues through his son, Jacob Wilson, who's off to a phenomenal start in his rookie season with the A's. We talk about what it's like watching his son succeed on the biggest stage, how their games compare, and the moment Jack knew Jacob was built for the big leagues. Jack also shares his approach to coaching today's players, what he looks for in great infielders, and how player development has changed since his days in the Pirates and Cardinals systems. And we look back at his time in Pittsburgh — the teammates, the fans, and what it would take for the organization to truly move forward under Bob Nutting's leadership. This episode is a thoughtful, wide-ranging conversation about baseball's past, present, and future and the powerful role family plays in all of it. Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to give his thoughts on the Steelers, the NFL draft, the end of the Penguins' season and the Pirates' West Coast road trip. On the football side, is Derrick Harmon the most uncomplicated pick for GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin? What about Kenneth Grant and Walter Nolen along the defensive line? And where do QBs Sheduer Sanders and Jaxson Dart fit into that conversation? Later, the duo reacts to Penguins GM Kyle Dubas appearing to signal in post-season comments Tuesday that he's looking more toward 2026-27 than next season in terms of competing meaningfully in the Eastern Conference. Is he being too passive with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang on the roster? How aggressively should he shop in NHL free agency this summer? Or move bad contracts owed to Tristan Jarry, Erik Karlsson and Ryan Graves? And where does coach Mike Sullivan figure into all of it? Then finally, in a segment airing on the Post-Gazette's Pirates YouTube channel, the guys react to Andrew McCutchen's angst about his playing time. Does he deserve better from manager Derek Shelton and GM Ben Cherington? How much longer does McCutchen plan to play? And is Shelton's lineup turnover an overall problem as well? Our duo tackles those questions, then discusses the team's mediocre record when Paul Skenes is on the mound and pressure on owner Bob Nutting after loud “sell the team” chants continued during the last homestand.

PG columnist Jason Mackey joined the show. Jason and the guys recapped the Pirates win against the Angels last night. Jason got into his column about Bob Nutting fixing his baseball team instead of the PR problems. Jason does think there could be a mark close to us in which we see Derek Shelton let go, but the wins from the last two nights certainly helped his matters. Jason talked about the lineup stuff and why Andrew McCutchen is voicing some of his annoyance on social media. Jason said the lineup is so matchup based and the Pirates hunt that stuff at all costs, instead of keeping things consistent.

Draft Day. We started with George Pickens and the latest around the Steelers receiver who is up to his old tricks on social media as we approach a draft where he is surrounded by trade rumors. Are the Steelers better off moving on from Pickens? If it's a way for the Steelers to recoup an extra pick tomorrow night, the guys think the team should do it.
