With Joey Bart hitting the IL and Endy Rodriguez back in the mix, the Pirates' catching situation just got a whole lot more interesting. Tonight, we dive deep into the chaos behind the plate — from Henry Davis' recent surge to Endy's return and what it means for the future. We also check in on the early returns from the Don Kelly era — has anything actually changed since Shelton was fired? Plus: is it time to cut bait with guys like Pham or Triolo? When will we see Dauri Moreta again? And of course, it wouldn't be a North Shore Nine episode without a little Paul Skenes talk. We break down his dominance, the national buzz, and whether we're still somehow underrating him. We wrap things up with a quick preview of the Pirates' upcoming series vs. the Padres.
In his weekly Pirates mailbag, insider Noah Hiles answers readers questions while the team plays on the West Coast. Will hot-hitting Enmanuel Valdez have a spot when Spencer Horwitz and Nick Gonzales return from injuries? Will Henry Davis go back to Triple-A when Endy Rodriguez comes back? And was Andrew McCutchen forced on Ben Cherington and Derek Shelton?
NS9 Postgame Show Powered by Primanti Bros. The Pirates are back in the win column thanks to a dominant performance on Skenes Day. Jim and Neil break down Paul Skenes' bounce-back outing, a complete team win featuring 14 hits, and an offense that went 8-for-10 with runners in scoring position. They dive into Henry Davis stepping in after Endy Rodriguez's injury, the historic battery moment, and standout performances from Justin Lawrence, Dennis Santana, and Enmanuel Valdez. The crew also gives away some Primanti Brothers sandwiches and tries to reverse the Rosati Curse by blaming Noah Hiles instead. Paul Skenes caught too much of the plate in his worst start, but did a better job of utilizing the zone with his changeup and splinker. Ke'Bryan Hayes' defense has been elite and his expected batting average is .305, despite only hitting .232. Henry Davis is going to play more with Endy Rodriguez hurt and has a chance to gain more confidence.
Hour 4 with Joe Starkey: Pirates broadcaster Bob Walk joins. Ke'Bryan Hayes made a great heads-up play to tag out the Cardinals runner at the plate after Endy Rodriguez and Joey Bart collided. Bob likes the strategy of moving runners over and the automatic runner in extras. Pirates-Reds this weekend in Cincy.
One fan says the Steelers should trade Watt and that edge rushers aren't as valuable in the playoffs, but getting more pressure up the middle. Ke'Bryan Hayes made a great play after Joey Bart and Endy Rodriguez collided with each other and Hayes tagged the runner at the plate.
Hour 3 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Ian Rapoport said when a player makes a cryptic social media post, it typically means something. It doesn't seem like Watt is happy with this and maybe sending a message. Ke'Bryan Hayes made a great play after Joey Bart and Endy Rodriguez collided with each other and Hayes tagged the runner at the plate.

What should he do about David Bednar and Colin Holderman, who've struggled in the bullpen early after issues in 2024? What should we make of Endy Rodriguez's first week at first base? And can Oneil Cruz correct some defensive gaffes in the outfield? Noah tackles those questions and more ahead of a series with the Tampa Bay Rays that begins Monday evening.

Bob is reserving judgement on the Pirates rotation until the first home series. There is concern around David Bednar and why he continues to struggle. Bob doesn't understand why the Pirates didn't play Endy Rodriguez more at first base in spring training and wants to see more of Oneil Cruz in center.
On their weekly podcast, host Adam Bittner and Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey react to the Steelers' offseason moves so far. How do moves for names like DK Metcalf, Kenneth Gainwell, Darius Slay and -- potentially -- Aaron Rodgers compare to GM Omar Khan's action in his first two seasons? Does this group compare well with the 2023 NFL free agency class that included Elandon Roberts, Larry Ogunjobi and Isaac Seumalo? Or the 2024 group that included Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Patrick Queen and DeShon Elliott? Will a lack of NFL draft picks naturally lead to a less bountiful offseason? And how should the stockpiling of compensatory picks for 2026 factor into this conversations? Later, the guys get into some college talk with Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia all stating spring practice. Are eyes on Drew Allar in Happy Valley as he looks to shake off a College Football Playoff loss to Notre Dame? Can he get the most out of a loaded roster that includes returnees such as Nick Singleton, Kaytron Allen and more? And are receiver transfers Devonte Ross and Kyron Hudson enough to help the passing game as it loses Tyler Warren to the NFL? In Morgantown, what kind of difference can the return of coach Rich Rodriguez make? And can Eli Holstein, Desmond Reid and the Panthers emerge from mediocrity? Our duo tackles those questions. Then in the third segment, airing on the PG Pirates YouTube channel, Adam and Jason get into predictions for the Pirates and the MLB season. How many wins will manager Derek Shelton's club rack up? Can Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller and the pitching staff push them over the .500 mark? Or will the lineup led by Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds and Ke'Bryan Hayes continue to struggle like it has in years past? What should we make of Carmen Mlodzinski earning a rotation spot? How will the catching situation play out with Endy Rodriguez making the Opening Day roster and Henry Davis starting in Class AAA? And why haven't we hear from owner Bob Nutting this spring?
Post-Gazette Pirates insider Noah Hiles and sports columnist Jason Mackey stream LIVE from Miami ahead of the club's MLB Opening Day matchup with the Marlins at loanDepot Park. How will Paul Skenes look after a dominant spring training? What about the rest of the rotation -- which includes Mitch Keller, Bailey Falter, Carmen Mlodzinski and Andrew Heaney -- in the absence of the injury Jared Jones? Are Oneil Cruz, Andrew McCutchen, Ke'Bryan Hayes, Bryan Reynolds and the offense prepared to take a step forward? And what will young players including Endy Rodriguez, Jack Suwinski and others prove in 2025? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
The Pirates Opening Day lineup is here. Endy Rodriguez is batting 7th and playing first base. Ke'Bryan Hayes is batting 8th. Jim wanted to see a better hitter signed for the money they paid Pham and Heaney this season. What if the Pirates drafted Dylan Crews?
Hour 4 with Bob Pompeani and Jeff Hathhorn: 93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Adam Schefter joined ESPN Milwaukee and said Aaron Rodgers could retire. Jeff likes Endy Rodriguez and thinks he will have a breakout season. Alex Ovechkin is going to break Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals record. Sidney Crosby is one point away from breaking Gretzky's record for most consecutive seasons averaging at least 1 point per game.
Hour 3 with Bob Pompeani: The Pirates Opening Day lineup is here. Endy Rodriguez is batting 7th and playing first base. Ke'Bryan Hayes is batting 8th. Jim wanted to see a better hitter signed for the money they paid Pham and Heaney this season. Can the Steelers draft and develop a quarterback to finally pass the baton from Ben Roethlisberger?
Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg checked in from Miami as we await Opening Day on Thursday. Will Paul Skenes be the third Pirates pitcher ever to win the Cy Young award? Greg compared Skenes to some of the hockey greats that this city has seen as generational talents. Greg said Skenes working on new pitches has been a hot topic around the league this spring. Greg can't wait to see what Skenes can do because he's must-watch television. Greg talked about some of the great pitchers he watched growing up in comparison to Skenes. Greg thinks Endy Rodriguez will see plenty of time playing 1B this season and could see action there on Opening Day. Greg thinks it will be ‘a while' before we see Jared Jones as we await the second opinion on his injury. Bubba Chandler is the next in line and Greg doesn't expect it to take too long before we see him. Martin Cumba Jr. from Sun Chevy joined the show. Martin talked about a time he was giving Ron Cook a ride in a corvette. Martin has worked with multiple charities in the area and one in particular that favors the automobile fans. Martin has placed a matching donation threshold for the listeners and Chris donated $1,000 (as part of his Penguins preseason bet). Martin talked about his tie in to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and his experiences working with them. He discussed making as big of an impact as possible. Betsy O'Leary from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank joined the show. Betsy talked about her experience as a volunteer with the Food Bank, which she started over 15 years ago when she was still actively working. She always had her sights set on the Food Bank due to the impact that it has on the community and the families in it.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news live around 5 p.m. Eastern. Is Aaron Rodgers a good potential fit with Steelers OC Arthur Smith's offense? How would it change compared to what we saw last season with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields behind center? And what impact will the acquisition of DK Metcalf to play across from George Pickens at receiver have on what Smith would like to do? Paul tackles those questions and more from around the sports world. What are his thoughts on the first weekend of March Madness, with mostly major-conference teams advancing? And what should we make of the Pirates' roster decisions announced so far -- including Endy Rodriguez making the team --ahead of Opening Day on Thursday?
Jared Jones' elbow injury shakes up the Pirates' rotation plans — so who steps in next? We break down the ripple effect, final roster battles, and what Endy Rodriguez's role at first base means for the bench. Paul Skenes continues to impress and delivers a message about raising the bar. Post-Gazette Pirates beat writer Noah Hiles recaps his chat with manager Derek Shelton on Sunday as well an a spring training win against the New York Yankees in Tampa, Fla. Why isn't Shelton prepared to name a closer? And why isn't David Bednar the default choice for that role after holding the job for most of the last few years? How is Henry Davis looking defensively behind the plate as he competes for time alongside names like Endy Rodriguez and Joey Bart? And how is the competition for left-handed relievers going as the bullpen begins to take shape? Noah tackles those questions and more.
On their weekly Pirates mailbag video, Post-Gazette insiders Noah Hiles and Andrew Destin answer reader questions from spring training in Bradenton, Fla. With a plethora of young arms that need worked into the major league fold, could manager Derek Shelton and the Pirates opt for a six-man rotation? Does DJ Stewart have a chance to make the opening day roster after a strong spring? Is there any chance the oft-injured Ke'Bryan Hayes could be traded? Have there been any discussions with Endy Rodriguez about potentially playing first base, given the logjam the Pirates have at catcher? Our duo answers those questions, plus gives a few names they think could be surprise picks to make the opening day roster.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to react to news that WR D.K. Metcalf has requested a trade from the Seattle Seahawks. Could he be a viable fit for GM Omar Khan, coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers? Are his skills too similar to those of George Pickens? Could a deal for Metcalf give Khan the latitude to move Pickens for a haul of draft picks? And which quarterback option could fit with Metcalf best? Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, Aarond Rodgers or someone else? Our duo tackles those questions, then talks Penguins with a little over 24 hours to go until the NHL trade deadline. Was the Thursday night trade that sent Michael Bunting to Nashville in exchange for defenseman Luke Schenn and forward Tommy Novak a good one? Could Erik Karlsson, Rickard Rakell or anyone else move before the deadline? And how much hope should fans have that Tristan Jarry can make the most of his latest NHL opportunity in goal? Then on the Pitt front, they ponder what the ACC's media rights settlement with Florida State and Clemson could mean for the Panthers and college football as a whole. In the third segment, airing on the Post-Gazette's new Pirates YouTube channel, Adam and Jason talk about the latest from spring training. What is Jason excited to see up close in Bradenton when he travels there this week? How much hope does he have that promising starts from Henry Davis, Matt Gorski, Endy Rodriguez and others are for real? Does he have any concern about Ke'Bryan Hayes' slow start at the plate? Or is it simply good news to see him healthy? The guys answer those questions, then analyze the chances of an extension with outfielder Oneil Cruz before Opening Day.
John was impressed with Paul Skenes adding two pitches, a cutter and running two-seam fastball, and trying to be the best pitcher in all of baseball. John would say Endy Rodriguez has a little better of a chance to make the Opening Day roster but Henry Davis is playing well. John thinks Matt Gorski is an interesting option.
On their weekly Pirates mailbag video, Post-Gazette insiders Noah Hiles and Andrew Destin answer reader questions from spring training in Bradenton, Fla. What is Endy Rodriguez's outlook for this season? Do the Pirates still see him as a catcher? Or could he move to first base after missing all of last season after having Tommy John surgery? What can fans expect from Nick Yorke, whom the Pirates picked up at last season's trade deadline? Is he destined to be a utilityman? Or could he stick as an everyday player? Is the news that Carmen Mlodzinski is getting stretched out as a starter the precursor to the Pirates trading another one of their young starting pitchers? Our duo answers those questions and more.

Shelton mentioned Bryan Reynolds and Nick Gonzales as clutch players. Shelton thinks Joey Bart could be here for a while and is earning it, but believes Henry Davis and Endy Rodriguez are big parts of the future and it takes more time for some players to figure it out.
