Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it up beside Dagon. And when the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and put him back in his place. - 1 Samuel 5:2-3 This Episode's Links: (All timestamps offset by 24-seconds) 00:24 – 1 Samuel 5 02:45 – Thoughts on the Reading 15:42 - The Institution Of Marriage Is Under Attack From All Sides – Matt Walsh, DW 24:08 - Value (ethics and social sciences) – Wikipedia 42:46 - In Defense of Order - Part 2 – Patrick J. If politics are a subject you avoid as much as possible...you're not alone. That's according to a new national survey from APM Research Lab, which is a different division within Minnesota Public Radio and the American Public Media Group. Managing editor Craig Helmstetter got to dive into that data, and he joined MPR News host Emily Bright to talk about it.
Prayer is 'absurd' in politics: Greens MP The NSW Greens have renewed a push to abolish Christian prayers in state parliament, saying the tradition is "absurd" and alienating to the general community. "I think it is absurd," Greens MP Abigail Boyd told AAP of the tradition. "When I worked at Kmart, we did not have to stand and listen to The Lord's Prayer before we opened all the registers up," she added. "I think most people in the real world think that it is quite extraordinary." Momentum to remove the Christian tradition from public institutions is growing across the country, according to Rationalist Society of Australia president Meredith Doig. "People are wanting change, and that includes change to the tradition of privileging one religion over another," Dr Doig told AAP. NSW councils including Shoalhaven and Wagga Wagga had already opted to switch to a moment of quiet reflection, she said. In Victoria, the Mildura Rural Council has received a motion from councillor Jodi Reynolds to replace prayer with an affirmation. "A prayer is something that is said in your home (or) in your church. The council chamber is a workplace," Ms Reynolds said. The tradition also stifled diversity on the council, she said. "The more diversity that you can get in any governing body ... the more that chamber can represent your community, the better decisions you make." "A prayer is something that is said in your home (or) in your church. The council chamber is a workplace," Ms Reynolds said. Ms Boyd previously launched an unsuccessful motion to have the prayer removed in 2019. Any motion to remove the prayer from Australian parliaments would not be supported by Liberal MP Tanya Davies. "It is a reminder to all MPs to serve with humility, conviction, compassion, justice and equity," she told AAP. A spokesperson from NSW Labor said they did not support the motion. Motions to alter the tradition were stridently opposed by outgoing Labor MP Walt Secord, whose office was inundated with calls against the idea when it was first floated. "Surprisingly adherents to non-Christian faiths, including Hindus and Muslims, saw it as an attack on all people of faith, not just The Lord's Prayer," he said in 2019. This is just my opinion. The influence of righteousness is squelched because churches will not teach the principles of God's Word in relation to politics. Church pastors are partially to blame for the rise of tyranny in our country.--With the rampant growth of big government, socialism, homosexual politics, and the dissolution of the family, this is a good time in the history of the west to crack the book and see what God says about all of these things. So Kevin Swanson interviews Dr. Wayne Grudem on his new comprehensive tome, -Politics - According to the Bible.- Dr. Grudem covers five different perspectives on the relationship of faith and civil government, and addresses a host of salient issues including taxation, welfare, environmental fascism, abortion, and freedom. --This program includes---1. Fascism is a label usually reserved for Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and brutal 20th century dictators. The term has swirled around Trump ever since he announced his bid for president. Now he has a record — of rhetoric and concrete policies — that makes the claim of fascism less far-fetched. KCRW speaks with Yale professor Jason Stanley, whose new book is titled “How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them.” He says, “Are there fascist forces in America today that are ascendant and threatening our status as a democracy? Is Trumpism a fascist, social, and political movement? I think it is.”

This is especially true in a day when so many self-proclaimed Christians appear to be conducting their affairs and casting their votes as if they were more secular-minded than biblically-minded. Because, it's quite possible that parents and children, alike—through our political views and voting habits—will be responsible for helping shape the kind of world our grandkids either have to inherit or get to inherit someday. Today we speak with Dr. Wayne Grudem, as he helps us examine how the Bible helps us navigate our political landscape. Wayne Grudem is Research Professor of Theology and Biblical Studies at Phoenix Seminary in Phoenix, Arizona. He received a B.A. from Harvard University, an M.Div. and a D.D. from Westminster Seminary, Philadelphia, and a Ph.D. (in New Testament) from the University of Cambridge, England. He has published over twenty books, including Politics According to the Bible. This would be a great reference book for any family discussing over 60 political issues. He is a past president of the Evangelical Theological Society, a co-founder and past president of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, and a member of the Translation Oversight Committee for the English Standard Version of the Bible. He and his wife Margaret have been married since 1969 and have three adult sons. Talking Politics and Religion How do political conversations, along with Politics According to the Bible, better help kids and parents participate in a political discussion? We have the privilege in the United States of living under a system where the government arrives at its powers by the power of the governed. This means we get to decide as a people, but we need the wisdom to choose rightly. The teachings of the Bible provide principals, morals and the proper role of government that help to guide us as we make these decisions. The bible talks about God's people having an influence on secular government. In Genesis 41:40, Joseph was second in command over the whole nation of Egypt! In Daniel, Nehemiah, and others, we see other godly figures in places of power. Another well-known bible character, Esther, was able to save God's chosen people because of the place she was given. In the new testament, we also see figures such as John the Baptist, Paul and others. How do we as believers engage in the current political and social climate? While some people will be very involved politically, run for office and become officials, others will seek to vote and possibly work more on a local level. That is all part of God's calling on the individual. But as Christians, we are all called to pray for those in authority. We should not be overtaken by fear and worry, but warn our children against that and how to listen wisely to our media and news outlets. It seems to me that kids these days aren't even aware of our biblical heritage and Christian foundation. So how did we get to a place, biblical and morally and theologically where we are so divided? Dr. Grudem states that he is “not sure that we let it happen. The supreme court took to itself powers that it shouldn't have and began to chip away at religion in general but Christianity specifically.” There is a need to reclaim the ground that has been lost by our supreme court. Romans 13 talks about obeying our government. We need to understand the structure of our government and who really has authority over the people. Episode Highlights: How should parents answer their kids who say that their vote isn't really gonna change anything? We got to where we currently are in America—-politically, morally and ideologically-divided because—how? As parents, what, specifically, could we have done better; and, what can we be doing, now, to better prepare our kids to stem the tide of some of this political insanity and division we're seeing today? Jesus was the Prince of Peace and taught his followers: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" (Matthew 5:9). Why do so many prominent, Christian Zionists ignore what Jesus taught? Find out why in this thoughtful, 27 minute podcast. We take a look at a few of these Christian leaders who include John Hagee (Christians United For Israel), Ann Graham Lotz (daughter of Billy Graham), Kay Arthur (Precepts Ministries), Richard Land & Pastor Robert Jeffress (spiritual adviser to the President), both of the Southern Baptist Convention, and Dr. Wayne Grudem (Seminary professor and author of "Systematic Theology" and “Politics According to the Bible“). Find out why Linda Compton, wife of one of We Hold These Truths' founding directors, Tom Compton, stopped teaching Precept Ministries Bible studies for women, after she had taught about 50 different Precepts studies, five years before she passed away.
Christian Zionism is a war based, political religion wrapped around the notion that the modern state of Israel is a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. It is a form of dispensational Christian theology (less than 200 years old) where war figures into its end times theology. In this podcast, Chuck Carlson, Tom Compton and Craig Hanson delve into various aspects of this war based religion including numerous, prominent evangelical Christian leaders like Henry Blackaby, Chuck Colson (deceased), Bill Bright (deceased) of Campus Crusade, D. James Kennedy (decesead), Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Conference, Ted Haggard, John McArthur, Dr. Wayne Grudem (author of "Politics According to the Bible") and John Hagee who have blessed the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, both before and after the wars started. They've gone so far as to say these wars are "just wars" according to their intrepretation of the Bible. WHTT's Chuck Carlson warned his fellow Baptists in 1990 about not going to war against Iraq ("Iraq: Americans Prepped For 'War'." Also, before the 2003 Gulf War on Iraq, WHTT opposed going to war, again (see here). An excellent article from 2004 in antiwar.com exposes evangelical Christians who support unjust wars: Pro-War Christians Should Come Clean.
