The Dread of the Cross (vv. 27-29) The Sons resolve The Fathers reassurance The Necessity of the Cross (vv. 30-33) The wonder of the crowd The weight of the crucifixion Judgment of sin Destruction of Satan Redemption of humanity The Brilliance of the Cross (vv. 34-36) The blindness The brightness Walk in the light Believe through the light Live by the light More to Consider The government of Polish Prime Minister Jaruzelski had ordered crucifixes removed from classroom walls, just as they had been banned in factories, hospitals, and other public institutions. Catholic bishops attacked the ban that had stirred waves of anger and resentment all across Poland. Ultimately the government relented, insisting that the law remain on the books, but agreeing not to press for removal of the crucifixes, particularly in the schoolrooms. But one zealous Communist school administrator in Garwolin decided that the law was the law. So one evening he had seven large crucifixes removed from lecture halls where they had hung since the school's founding in the twenties. Days later, a group of parents entered the school and hung more crosses. The administrator promptly had these taken down as well. The next day two-thirds of the school's six hundred students staged a sit-in. When heavily armed riot police arrived, the students were forced into the streets. Then they marched, crucifixes held high, to a nearby church where they were joined by twenty-five hundred other students from nearby schools for a morning of prayer in support of the protest. Soldiers surrounded the church. But the pictures from inside of students holding crosses high above their heads flashed around the world. So did the words of the priest who delivered the message to the weeping congregation that morning. "There is no Poland without a cross." Chuck Colson, Kingdoms in Conflict, pp. 202-3. All heaven is interested in the cross of Christ, all hell is terribly afraid of it, while men are the only beings who more or less ignore its meaning. Oswald Chambers.
In a world that is openly hostile to masculinity, does our faith offer a remedy? And what do we as Christian parents need to teach our sons and daughters? Consider these shocking examples of male-bashing in our culture: The Washington Post article by gender studies professor “Why Can't We Hate Men?” The New Stateman featured a British feminist writing, “ You can't live with them. You can't shoot them.” Trendy hashtag #killallmen T-shirts emblazoned with “So many men. So Little Ammunition.” Books titled: I Hate Men, The End of Men, and Are Men Necessary? A USA Today article states: “At today's universities, masculinity is almost never discussed except in negative terms, usually with the word ‘toxic' attached. John Stoltenberg, author of Refusing to Be a Man says, “Talking about ‘healthy masculinity' is like talking about ‘healthy cancer.'” Hugh Howey tweeted, “Testosterone is the problem… Women should be in charge of everything.” Testosterone is “a toxin that you have to slowly work out of your system,” said James Cameron, director of the movie Media researcher, Jim Macnamara, conducted extensive content analysis of more than 2000 mass media portrayals of men (including news, feature articles, talk shows, etc.) found that more than 75% of all media representations of men portrayed them as “villains, aggressors, perverts, and philanderers.” As parents, we are raising our boys in a toxic stew misandry (hatred, contempt, or prejudice against men or boys), and we should be concerned. Catherine's guest in this episode, Nancy Pearcey, has written the quintessential book defining the problem when it comes to masculinity in our culture, and she offers the only viable solution. The Toxic War on Masculinity: How Christianity Reconciles the Sexes walks us through this intricate and critical conversation. Nancy's personal journey from victimization with an abusive father, to agnosticism and radical feminism, to affirming biblical masculinity gives her a unique perspective on this contentious subject. Nancy unpacks the real roots of so-called "toxic masculinity" and discusses why understanding this topic is pivotal for Christian families today. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Origins of Toxic Masculinity: Misconceptions abound about toxic masculinity and its origins. Nancy dismantled the myth that it started with 1960s feminism, explaining its roots in the post-Industrial Revolution era. She explores how men, distanced from home-based work, lost their nurturing roles, which led to more egocentric and aggressive behaviors. Cultural Hostility Towards Masculinity: The episode delves into societal attitudes, giving examples like misandric merchandise and high-profile statements against men. A shocking survey reveals that a significant percentage of men feel victimized by society's hostility towards typical male behavior. Positive Masculinity Scripts: Nancy emphasizes the importance of promoting the 'Good Man' script—values of honor, duty, integrity, and responsibility—over the toxic stereotypes often portrayed in media and culture. Encouraging men to recognize their innate capacity for good can be more effective than labeling them toxic. Pandemic's Impact on Fatherhood: The discussion touches on how the COVID-19 pandemic brought men closer to their families. Nancy shares compelling personal experiences and data showing men's desire for more flexible work arrangements post-pandemic to stay connected with their children and homes. Balancing Career and Family: Highlighting the historical perspective, Catherine and Nancy discuss how modern families are finding ways to intertwine economic activities with family life, much like the pre-industrial era. They share inspirational anecdotes of men balancing work and family commitments creatively. Join Catherine and Nancy as they navigate the contentious and critical topic of masculinity, offering hope, clarity, and actionable insights for Christian parents in today's chaotic world. Miami-Dade school board votes against recognizing LGBTQ+ History Month for 3rd year in a rowFor the third year in a row, the Miami-Dade County school board voted against a proposal to recognize October as LGBTQ+ History Month. The 5-3 vote on Wednesday came hours after the school board heard a mix of passionate opinions about whether to approve item H-10.VOTE NO ON AMNDMENT 4 NO Definitions Unlike other Amendments, Amendment 4 does not define any of its key terms. For example, it does not define “viability,” “health care provider,” “patient's health,” or how serious a health concern would need to be to allow exceptions for late-term abortions. These uncertainties create loopholes resulting in more abortions later in pregnancy than voters intend. Too EXTREMEAmendment 4 goes TOO FAR by allowing late-term abortions, far beyond when science says the baby is capable of feeling pain. Amendment 4 would overturn current laws requiring a parent's consent BEFORE a minor can have an abortion, thereby making abortion the only medical procedure that can be performed on a minor without a parent's permission. Amendment 4 pretends to “just bring things back to how they were with Roe vs. Wade” – but it actually goes much further – creating a constitutional right to abortion throughout all nine months with no protections for the unborn baby.Should Christians be in politics? Can politics save America? For years, RLR has urged Christians to take seriously theirobligations as citizens, starting with exercising the right tovote. In the public square and at the ballot box, we must bemore engaged, not less. Q. But what happens in a race where Christians are facedwith two morally problematic choices? Q. Should voters cast a ballot for the lesser of two evils? When it comes to citizenship in our current political context, Christians are plagued by two opposite mistakes. The first is French theologian Jacques Ellul called “the political illusion,” or, assuming that everything rests on political outcomes. “If our guy is in office, all will be well. If their guy is in office, all will be lost.” The political illusion, to be clear, plagues both sides of the political and theological aisles. To describe a particular candidate in messianic terms is to suffer from the political illusion. To describe him or her as the anti-Christ is also to suffer from the political illusion. No political candidate will “save Christianity.” No candidate can “irreparably harm” it either. Other Christians are plagued by the political delusion, the idea that political engagement of any kind is pointlessly unnecessary or perhaps even implicates one in evil. Of course, there are cases throughout history where an election is a farce, or where political engagement aligns one with unmitigated evil. Neither is not the case for American Christians today. I will put it bluntly, for American Christians, voting is both a civic duty and a Christian responsibility. The late, great Chuck Colson once wrote: The next time you hear someone tell you that Christians ought to take a vacation from politics, tell them to go fly a kite. Listen, it's our duty as citizens of the kingdom of God to be the best citizens of the society we live in.Brothers and sisters, Christianity and good citizenship go together.

The success of America is, at least in part, dependent upon its citizens' ability to “self-govern,” John Stonestreet says. “Faith and family are the most obvious” ingredients required for people to be able to govern themselves, says Stonestreet, president of the nonprofit Colson Center and host of the “Breakpoint” podcast. The Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Colson Center was founded by Chuck Colson, who served in the Nixon administration and went on to become one of the most influential Christian thought leaders of his time. Why?Because faith and family “play the most significant role in forming us,” he explained. But today, much of the U.S. population has lost sight of these two necessities for self-governance. According to a recent Gallup poll, 68% of Americans say they identify with a Christian religion, whether in the Protestant or Catholic tradition, but 24 years ago, that number was 86%. Today, children being told they may have been born in the wrong body, abortion still the leading cause of death among babies, and about 1 in every 4 U.S. children is growing up without a father in the home, according to the National Fatherhood Initiative. Stonestreet joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss how Christians can rise to meet the current moment in history with hope and solutions to the troubles facing America. Stonestreet also discusses Christians' role within politics. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Its been 50 years since Richard Nixon resigned as President. His former chief counsel served a prison sentence for his role in the Watergate scandal. During this time, Chuck Colson was born again.
Question: I am reading Chuck Colson's book The Body, and am greatly disappointed in Chuck for including the Roman Catholic Church as a part of the body of Christ that we are to embrace in his call for unity…. I appreciate Chuck Colson, but I'm a bit confused about his term “evangelical Catholics.” What also greatly disappoints me are the endorsements by a host of religious leaders on the jacket. Would you comment on this book in The Berean Call?Response: I respect Chuck as a Christian who loves the Lord and has sacrificed a great deal to bring the gospel into prisons. Therefore it grieves me to say that his book is a sad mixture of warnings against error and at the same time embracing that which is false and even covering up or ignoring that which, if admitted, would undermine his thesis of unity with Rome. He finds fault (often correctly) with various segments of the evangelical church, but not with the Catholic Church. And the praise he gives Rome is often so blind as to be embarrassing, such as his statement that “the Catholic Church, to its great credit, does call heretics to account” (p 132). Indeed she does, having burned more than a million at the stake! And to this day both Trent and Vatican II condemn evangelicals as heretics for holding beliefs to which Colson subscribes. Surely he must know this!
