Transcripts are available at diceexploder.com People talk a lot about how and whether RPGs emulate TV and movies, but this week cohost Meguey Baker (Apocalypse World, Under Hollow Hills) brings in a game that takes that sentiment to a compelling meta level. Fan Mail, from Primetime Adventures by Matt Wilson, is the core of the game's key metaphor: that players are simultaneously writers of a TV show, fans watching that show, and the characters portrayed on screen. We talk about the storygame scene in the early 2000s, how Primetime Adventures has influenced Meg's work, and how different this mechanic can feel in a one shot vs a full campaign. This game feels like a classic. I wish I'd known about it ten years ago. Get yourself some popcorn, sit yourself down on your couch, and turn on the television - it's time for an Elevator Pitch that introduces Primetime Adventures.  This is a game we've mentioned a few times before in the podcast but not gone into any detail about until now.  We'll explain how the system works, how the unusual series planning operates, and hopefully not get lost backstage as Ailsa takes us on a scene-setting journey to start with. We've also got a Quiz for you, in which we discuss celebrities with a connection to roleplaying games.  Which of these creatives genuinely have worked to write content for TTRPG publications and which are just tittle-tattle?  Ailsa will try and deduce the genuine gossip from the fraudulent fallacies.  There's a few that will surprise you - and at least one you'll be hugely glad didn't unleash her inner goddess on the world.Of course this episode has plenty of other things going on for you.  There's some discussion about how many dance graduates Starfleet Academy has had, a call-back to a question in a previous quiz, the revelation of which 80s sitcom star George is absolutely determined to meet, and a trip to a bookbinding shop we don't remember existing beforehand .  Finally, there's our usual advertising slot: this time for an app that will help out anyone trying to form a new adventuring party.Contact us by email on tildicepodcast@gmail.comWe can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram under @tildicepodcastOur theme music is Funny Adventures by WinnieTheMoogLink: https://filmmusic.io/song/6048-funny-adventuresLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/Additional music is Unforgettable Journey by Alexander NakaradaLink: https://filmmusic.io/song/6661-unforgettable-journeyLicense: https://filmmusic.io/standard-licenseAdditional music is Experiment 4 by Dark Fantasy StudiosUsed under a paid licenseOur logo is by Neil Slorance - check out his work on Twitter under @neilslorance or Facebook as "Art by Neil Slorance"Support the show (https://ko-fi.com/tildicepodcast)Support the Show.

So here are the first seven words. I talk about "Beginning" a lot, and then do quick hits on the other six: change, thread, vision, tribute, forest, couple. Opening clip is from the movie Dune. Other stuff: Star Wars: A New Hope, Lord of the Rings, the Science Fiction Book Club, A Wizard of Earthsea, The Dragonriders of Pern, Midnight's Lair (defunct podcast), Merlin, Aladdin's Castle, Alien (movie), TI-994a. Coming back with another Super-Sized episode, Geek at Arms returns! Bryan, Mike, and James start off with an impromptu To The Future discussing the recent trailer for Picard and a teaser for the upcoming Lord of The Rings show from Amazon. James starts Geek Out with his thoughts on the final season of the Revolutionary War spy drama Turn: Washington's Spies and how it led him to dig deeper in the subject by reading Washington's Spies: The Story of America's First Spy Ring by Alexander Rose. Next Bryan answers a listener question about the Oculus Rift and shares how much he loved Spider-Man: Far From Home. He also describes how things went with his first Primetime Adventures session, Shadows in the Toybox! Mike tells us about his recent vacation and the abundant amount of reading he did on it: from Civil War battleship history to biographies of JRR Tolkien to medieval fencing treatises by Ken Mondschein! Finally, the guys have a long discussion on ethical situations and moral dilemmas found in video games like Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic, and more.

In Geek Out Mike describes much fun he and Bryan had as guests on the fantastic podcast Saving the Game, and how much he's enjoyed the recent Amazon series (or was it Netflix) Good Omens. Next, James cannot say enough good things about Godzilla: King of the Monsters. He also talks about taking his family to a local fan convention ArlingCon and how much he's enjoyed watching My Hero Academia. Bryan relates how much he's enjoyed the return of JL8, a webcomic by Yale Stewart, fighting Darth Vader and evil cubes with a lightsaber on the Oculus Rift, and the start of a new RPG session of the game Primetime Adventures! Finally, the Fantasy Film Club comes to a close with a review of the 1985 medieval fantasy Ladyhawke, starring Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Matthew Broderick.

After Action Report for Primetime Adventures 0:34 - We've just finished up playing a full season of Primetime Adventures, so I thought this would be a good time to talk about it. 1:51 - The illustrious Kenneth Hite greets us. 2:00 - I sit down with Christina, Roy, and Ted to talk extensively about Terroir, our recently concluded game of Primetime Adventures. We start off with introductions. 4:16 - We begin with the pitch session and how we ended up playing Six Feet Under meets Tim Powers' Earthquake Weather meets Six Feet Under 8:08 - We talk about how the conceptual framework of a television show impacted the game. 20:18 - The first element of PTA's mechanics we dig into is fan mail. 28:28 - En route to discussing the conflict system, we explain our biggest stumble in the game. 37:48 - With that out of the way, we finally get to the conflict mechanics, specifically how they drive plot momentum and handle orthogonal stakes. 43:57 - We give some advice for people looking to try PTA for the first time. 56:27 - Finally, we conclude with what we've learning and we're taking away for future games. 1:08:46 - The show is part of the Gaming Broadcast Network. 1:08:56 - I'm off to Origins, and I'll be back next week to talk about the experience. --Paul Discuss this episode in the HG,WT forum.
