On this episode of Tent Show Radio, enjoy an invigorating hour of jazz as the world-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra showcase the unforgettable musical legacy of one of the most iconic bandleaders of all time. Considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time, the world-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra continues to keep Miller's legendary jazzy sound alive onstage for old-time fans and new generations alike. Known for timeless classics like “In the Mood”, “Moonlight Serenade”, “Chattanooga Choo Choo”, and “Tuxedo Junction” the iconic bandleader's famous orchestra proves his unforgettable music is alive and well nearly 80 years after his passing. While the first Glenn Miller Orchestra was a total and absolute economic failure, Miller was dedicated to his dreams and relentlessly worked until he succeeded. He launched his second band in March of 1938, and The Glenn Miller Orchestra became the most sought-after big band in the world. A matchless string of hit records, the constant impact of radio broadcasts and the drawing power at theaters, hotels and dance pavilion, built and sustained the momentum of popularity. After joining the army in 1942, the band was temporarily disbanded while Miller organized and led the famous Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band which traveled through Europe to entertain servicemen. After disappearing on a flight mission in 1944, the army declared Miller dead in 1945. Following the release of the movie The Glenn Miller Story in 1954, there was growing and renewed interest in Miller's music legacy. Miller's estate authorized the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley, and since 1956, the band has been touring consistently, playing an average of 300 live shows around the world every year. Revered for its own unique and distinctive big band sound, The Glenn Miller Orchestra has always been very musical, disciplined, and visually entertaining. That sound is created by the clarinet holding the melodic line, doubled or coupled with the tenor sax playing the same notes; and the harmonies produced by three other saxophones, while growling trombones and wailing trumpets add their oo-ahs. Led by tenor saxophonist Erik Stabnau, the 18-member ensemble continue to play many of Miller's original arrangements both from the civilian band and the AAFB libraries. The band also plays more modern selections arranged and performed in the Miller style and sound. Just as it was in Glenn's day, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is still the most sought-after big band in the world.       EPISODE CREDITSMichael Perry - Host Phillip Anich - Announcer Keenan McIntyre - Engineer Gina Nagro - Marketing Support FOLLOW BIG TOP CHAUTAUQUA https://www.facebook.com/bigtopchautauqua/ https://www.instagram.com/bigtopchautauqua/ https://www.tiktok.com/@bigtopchautauqua https://twitter.com/BigBlueTent FOLLOW HOST MICHAEL PERRYhttps://sneezingcow.com/ https://www.facebook.com/sneezingcow https://www.instagram.com/sneezingcow/ https://twitter.com/sneezingcow/ 2024 TENT SHOW RADIO SPONSORSAshland Area Chamber of Commerce - https://www.visitashland.com/   Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau - https://www.bayfield.org/   Bayfield County Tourism - https://www.bayfieldcounty.wi.gov/150/Tourism   The Bayfield Inn - https://bayfieldinn.com/   Cable Area Chamber of Commerce - https://www.cable4fun.com/   Kylmala Truss - https://www.kylmalatruss.com/  SPECIAL THANKSWisconsin Public Radio - https://www.wpr.org/

Part 3 of 3 – Author Dr. Ray McKinley has written the book, “Ride the Elephant – The Journey to True Success”. “Ride the Elephant” calls out the elephant in the room that holds you back, that has been hiding in plain sight, then challenges the reader with questions and answers never considered before. It is a book that invites you to dive very deep if you allow yourself to go that far, into why we act, think and behave as we do. You will likely see that today's normal daily reactions are really creating a waterfall event with those around you. The interplay of so many feelings and reactions like hate, blame, excuses, accountability, judgment, fear, and pride are examined. You will begin to consider how this juxtaposition of emotions is creating havoc in your life – like “the elephant in the room.” Listen to all 3 Episodes: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 Connect with Jon Dwoskin: Twitter: @jdwoskin Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jonathan.dwoskin Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thejondwoskinexperience/ Website: https://jondwoskin.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jondwoskin/ Email: jon@jondwoskin.com Get Jon's Book: The Think Big Movement: Grow your business big. Dr. Ray McKinley graduated from University of Detroit School of Dentistry in 1974. He has provided state-of-the-art dental care in Macomb County for over 40 years. Dr. McKinley’s daughter Brittany joined the practice in the summer of 2011, upon her completion of her dental degree from The University of Detroit, School of Dentistry. Dr. McKinley remains on the cutting edge of technology, striving to provide the highest quality of dental care available today. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, and the Macomb County Dental Society. He has also served as member of the Michigan Dental Association Peer Review Committee. This year, Dr. McKinley continued his 12 year tradition of teaching a class to a group of wonderful juniors and seniors at Lutheran High North called Business Character Values. Several of his staff members join him in teaching this class by mentoring a student. Born in Detroit, Ray is one of 12 children born to Dr. Otis and Phyllis McKinley, of Fraser. Ray, along with all of his brothers, followed in the footsteps of his father and became a dentist. Dr. McKinley’s daughter, Brittany, graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 2011 and is now continuing the family tradition into the 3rd generation! The McKinley Family has provided dental care in Macomb County and throughout the State of Michigan for over 65 years. Ray is part of a family with a history of hard work, including building McKinley Airport in Fraser, learning to fly solo by age 16, the development of Pine Valley Golf Course in Romeo, past president of the Romeo Chamber of Commerce, former president of the Romeo Kiwanis Club, a delegate to Washington DC’s Conference for Small Business, and building numerous dental offices throughout Michigan. Ray continues to stay involved in growing and developing his community. Ray and his wife Lynn have six children, and five grandchildren. Ray has written the book, "Ride the Elephant". Will Bradley along with drummer Ray McKinley led a very exciting band from 1939 to 1942. The Bradley band became well known for boogie-woogie, particularly its hit record, "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar" In 1942, McKinley departed to form his own band. Bradley hired trumpeter Shorty Rogers and drummer Shelly Manne, but many members wound up in the military due to the draft, and the band dissolved. On today's program we will take a look at and listen to many of those great Bradley recordings. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbashfm.blogspot.com

This week I'm continuing with a listener's request from a few months ago. He wanted me to do a few shows on some of the Big Band arrangers. A few months ago I did a show on Sy Oliver and today we are focusing on Eddie Sauter. Eddie wrote some fantastic arrangements for Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Ray McKinley and a few others. Sometimes Eddie's arrangements were too sophisticated and Benny would alter them. One of his best arrangements was done for saxophonist Stan Getz for the album Focus. I hope you enjoy this look at one of the greatest arrangers of the big band era, Mr. Eddie Sauter. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbashfm.blogspot.com

Today's show is kind of a nostalgic program for me. The first time I heard a live big band was when the Glenn Miller Orchestra played at a local high school. I was just a high school senior but I was interested in the big bands so I bought a ticket. I don't think I was supposed to be taping the performance but no one said anything so I stood off to the side of the bandstand and took in the sights and sounds. Peanuts Hucko was the director of the band and I marveled at his great playing. Well, a couple of months ago I came across my cassette tape from that night. I digitized it and with the help of my friend here at the station we cleaned it up. So today's show features the Glenn Miller Orchestra down through the years directed by different leaders. There is some great music in this set as well as four numbers from my tape. There are no recordings of Peanuts leading the band so this is kind of a rarity. I hope you enjoy the music. Escuchar audio

Bradley played trombone with various bands in New York in the late 20s and at the beginning of the next decade established the working pattern for his whole career, combining studio work with playing in name bands. In the early 30s he recorded with Red Nichols and in 1935 was in the band assembled by Glenn Miller that played under the leadership of Ray Noble. In 1939 Bradley formed a big band with drummer Ray McKinley that enjoyed great popular success, owing in part to a string of orchestrated boogie-woogie numbers, including "Beat Me, Daddy, Eight To The Bar".HempUSA Store GoDaddy coupon codes at http://offers.mevio.comeHarmony Promotional Code | eHarmony Coupon at http://offers.mevio.comBudget Coupons | Budget Rental Coupons at http://offers.mevio.comBrookstone Coupons | Brookstone Coupon Codes at http://offers.mevio.com
