This week Chris and Jason read and discussed a paper Chris wrote for a strategic studies project about neo-Nazi terror networks and their links to far-right militias in Ukraine. The influx of foreign fighters to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion of 2022 has outpaced US intel and law enforcement agencies' ability to monitor potential radicals going to and coming from Ukraine. Far-right extremists have been drawn to the conflict in Ukraine since 2014 due to affiliated organizations that belong to a web of loosely related violent neo-fascist organizations. Several affiliated extremists have been apprehended planning terror attacks and other acts of violence. Andrew For America welcomes back host of the According@Sam podcast, Mr. Sam Winchester. Sam breaks down some of the history of America's involvement in the Ukrainian war (since 2013) that you definitely haven't heard in the American media! It involves, Chris Murphy, John McCain, Amy Klobuchar, Lindsay Graham, Victoria Neuland, and others. Turns out, American government officials have supported literal Nazi's in western Ukraine! FACT. Sam talks about the history of recent Ukrainian politics, the Orange Revolution, The Euromaidan protests, and the many Nazi organizations that have played the biggest role in sowing discord in the region such as Swoboda, Azov battalion, and Right Sector. Sam makes the case that Vladamir Putin never "invaded" Ukraine, he was, in fact, providing protection for Eastern Ukrainians (Crimea/Donbas) who recently voted (in democratic elections) to be annexed by Russia (because they didn't want to be aligned with literal Nazis). So, to all of my fellow Americans who are SO pro Ukraine, be sure to specify exactly which part of Ukraine you support...do you support the literal Nazi's in the west, or the citizens in the east who want no part of Nazism and would rather be part of Russia? Moral: Don't be a brainwashed, ignorant, opinionated, American fool!Andrew and Sam also talk about the Bonus Army: when our own government denied our veterans the money they were promised for service to their country, as well as their ability to peacefully protest against their own government after being victimized by it! In this episode, Darren Franks chats with Michael Oluwole, Co-Founder and Chief Growth Officer at TAP.Michael highlights the prevalent cash-based nature of everyday transactions in Africa, focusing on the challenges of achieving financial inclusion in a predominantly cash-dependent society. While banks and fintechs have addressed larger transactions, the majority, constituting 70%, remain cash-based, hindering efforts to establish credit profiles for citizens.Highlights

In the modern discourse it seems, any political opponent is immediately a "Nazi", and any historical grievance is a "genocide".The problem is obvious and three-fold:Politically, the elites in a less wealthy and/or numerous nation want to use the victimhood status to gain potential reparations from the wealthier/more numerous nation, by any means possible—all's fair in love and war;The impacts on the (wrongfully) accused are also clear: accusing various historical governments of (alleged) genocides smears their modern successors as well as the whole nations, thus dehumanizing them in a way;And in turn, overusing such terms as "Nazi" and "genocide" cheapens these and diminishes the crimes of the actual Nazis, creates possibilities for denial of actual genocides such as the Holocaust or the Armenian Genocide, and whitewashes the Nazi revival such as various neo-Nazi movements.I can think of no example more insane than the whitewashing of the Ukrainian Nazi collaborators Bandera and Shukhevich, their organizations OUN and UPA, and their modern Ukrainian equivalents such as Azov, S14, and the Right Sector—and at the same time bringing out all the decades of smear campaigns against the USSR and Russia, accusing them of multiple genocides.Though maybe "Holodomor" myth is at least equally insane.Russophobia deserves its own post, and so do the Ukrainian Nazis both historical and modern. For now, I'll look at genocide accusations against the historical and modern Russias.ContentGenocide as a Weapon of Propaganda [00:00]Modern Days: 2022+ "Genocide" of Ukrainians [09:42]Goebbels Propaganda Rules and Brand Management [20:42]Russia's "History of Genocides" [32:17]Circassian "Genocide" [37:09]"Holodomor" as a National Foundation Myth [56:20]Final Thoughts [1:12:11]
Juan Sinmiedo, who runs a popular Telegram channel documenting human rights abuses in Ukraine, published an explosive interview with ‘Boneface' – real name Kent McLellan – a 32-year-old Neo-Nazi from Florida who joined the fascist volunteer Right Sector group during the Donbass war, and returned to fight alongside the Azov Battalion in January 2022. The discussion with McLellan shatters many myths and lies that have been circulated about the Maidan coup, the current conflict in Ukraine, and the disturbingly strong influence of nationalist movements within the country. McLellan, the son of the front man of Neo-Nazi rock band Brutal Attack, got involved with far-right activism while just a teenager, and had numerous run-ins with the law for subversive, racially-charged activities. He and other members of the racist organization American Front were detained by the FBI in May 2012, for preparing terrorist acts against ethnic minorities in Florida. It was this background that led him to travel to Ukraine in 2014. The American fascist circles he moved in had direct links and regular contact with nationalist groups at the forefront of the Maidan, which at the time were hosting large public events “nearly daily in every Oblast that wasn't seeing war.” As did far-right movements in many other nearby countries, including Finland, Georgia, and Latvia. It seems the US government approved of the presence of McLellan and others in Ukraine at that time. He says he got caught – it's not clear by whom or what – teaching Ukrainians DNS poisoning, and the Americans “wanted to sit in and help.” “They didn't want names or anything, but they wanted to monitor the situation. Without this backing I would've been charged with violation of [the] American neutrality act,” McLellan claims. Since the last edition of the podcast, Vladimir Putin has carried out actions in Ukraine that go against all forms of decency and civil behaviour. One month later, Marcus Stead and Greg Lance-Watkins try to make sense of the situation. All decent people are disgusted and appalled with Putin's deliberate targeting of innocent civilians, and he has no role to play in any lasting discussions on a peace settlement. However, this has been a horrendous military campaign by Russia. They are facing a humiliating defeat, but the big question is – where does Ukraine go from here? This conflict has been going on since the Meidan Revolution of 2014, when the democratically-elected pro-Russian President Yanukovych was overthrown by a US and EU-backed mob, which included Nazi-sympathising elements such as the Azov Battalion and the Right Sector. The rights of the ethnic Russians and Russian-speaking peoples of Donbas were signed away at gunpoint, and an eight-year conflict began, in which 14,000 innocent civilians have died in the region. The Minsk II agreement, brokered with the help of Germany, France and Poland, would have seen Donbas giving autonomy within the Ukrainian state, but this was never implemented. While this in no way excuses Putin's actions, it nevertheless played into his hands. The current Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is also no saint, as the Pandora Papers reveal huge corruption and offshore accounts linked directly to him. One of the great tragedies of this conflict is that Ukraine has the potential to become a rich, prosperous country. It has a great deal of natural resources, and its ports are located in superb positions in terms of trade. But a lasting peace will require compromise and for the language and civil rights of all peoples to be respected. The lack of leadership from the West is also deeply concerning. President Biden, once a steady, likeable if unspectacular Senator and Vice President, is very clearly in cognitive decline. The British army is now so small in size, it would fit comfortably into Wembley Stadium, and the Royal Navy so small that recapturing the Falkland Islands, as happened in 1982, would now be impossible. A key ‘piece of the jigsaw' is Russia's relationship with China, which will soon become the world's largest economy, which will have serious consequences for us all. The days of China being ordered about by Western countries are over. As for Russia itself, it appears as though Putin has surrounded himself with sycophants, or at the very least people who are terrified of telling him the truth about how badly this military campaign is going. What does all this mean for Russia? Putin does not look well. If he is overthrown, will Russia survive as a nation state? This podcast does not claim to have all the answers, but it does provide an interesting discussion. The podcast is available on the Talk Podcasts website, iTunes, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, SoundCloud, Spotify and the iTunes app.

On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker and John Kiriakou are joined by Ken Hammond, an undergraduate at Kent State University before and during the Kent State Massacre, a speaker at the May 4, 1970 rally on the Commons, and an eyewitness to the shooting who was questioned and arrested by the FBI as one of the Kent 25 and went on to co-found the Kent Legal Defense Fund.Fifty years ago today, on May 4, 1970, members of the Ohio National Guard fired 67 rounds in 13 seconds into a group of unarmed, peaceful students protesting the illegal US bombing of Cambodia. Four students, Allison Krause, Jeffrey Miller, Bill Schroeder, and Sandra Lede Scheuer, were killed and another nine were wounded. One was permanently paralyzed. The shootings led to protests against the Vietnam War at colleges and universities across America. But no National Guardsmen were ever punished for the murders. A new report by the International Energy Agency concludes that the coronavirus pandemic is delivering the biggest shock to the international energy system in more than seven decades. Global energy demand is down six percent this year. That’s ten times more than the drop in demand from the 2008-2009 recession. And demand for coal is down eight percent. That’s the biggest drop since World War II. This huge decline in energy demand has led to an eight percent drop in greenhouse gas emissions, the largest decrease ever recorded. But the United Nations says we would have to have similar decreases every year for the next decade in order to reverse the effects of climate change. Fred Magdoff, professor emeritus of plant and soil science at the University of Vermont and the co-author of “What Every Environmentalist Needs to Know About Capitalism” and “Creating an Ecological Society: Toward a Revolutionary Transformation” from Monthly Review Press, joins the show. People in Ukraine and around the world marked the sixth anniversary of the massacre of over 40 people in Odessa, Ukraine over the weekend. On May 2nd, 2014, a mob that included members of neo-Nazi organization Right Sector trapped anti-fascist activists inside a trade union headquarters and burned the building down. And the far-right continues to wield great influence in Ukraine today. Brian and John speak with Phil Wilayto, a journalist and a member of Virginia Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality and coordinator of the Odessa Solidarity Campaign. In Episode 26 of the CounterVortex podcast, Bill Weinberg notes contradictions and complexities in two world crises depicted in polarized terms by left, right and center alike. The indigenous Tatar people of Crimea, their autonomy and rights abrogated by the illegal Russian occupation, have been drawn into an alliance with Ukraine's ultra-nationalist Right Sector based on their mutual opposition to Putin's annexation of the peninsula. Ukrainian anarchists are meanwhile facing repression for their opposition to Right Sector. Putin, who is cracking down on Russian anarchists who oppose his own ultra-nationalist imperial agenda, has just sent a detachment of Cossack mercenaries to Venezuela to serve as a Praetorian Guard for the embattled Nicolás Maduro. In addition to being opposed by the right-wing pretender Juan Guaidó, Maduro also faces a challenge from an independent left that rejects his undemocratic rule as well as US imperial designs on Venezuela. Indigenous peoples such as the Pemón of the Orinoco Basin are also mounting resistance to extractive designs on their territory—regardless of who holds power in Caracas. Can anarchists and the independent left in Ukraine, Russia and Venezuela unite with indigenous peoples such as the Tatars and Pemón to defend freedom and autonomy, and repudiate reactionaries and imperialists on all sides? How do you fight against an attack that can’t be traced definitively to a person or even a nation? NATO experts, Ukrainian politicians and journalists talk about how to defend Ukraine from hackers, who target key infrastructure like nuclear and chemical plants and have even tried to derail the Presidential elections. About the four-part series Ukraine: The Unseen Attacks Fighting in the east has come to characterize Ukraine. But Ukraine’s struggle for survival and self-determination, free of corrupt governments and Russian influence is fought on many other fronts. From cyber defence to internal defence, fixing its forces to telling the truth – Ukraine faces challenges that may determine its very survival. Full script =VOICEOVER = Fighting in the east has come to characterize Ukraine. But Ukraine’s struggle for survival and self-determination, free of corrupt governments and Russian influence is fought on many other fronts. In this program, we’ll look at four distinct challenges Ukraine faces in addition to fighting on its borders. From cyber defense to internal defense, fixing its forces to telling the truth – Ukraine faces challenges that may determine its very survival. =GRAPHIC= UKRAINE – THE UNSEEN ATTACKS =GRAPHIC= CYBER ATTACK =VOICEOVER= The day before the Ukrainian Presidential election results were announced, a hacker group calling themselves Cyber Berkut infiltrated Ukraine’s central election computer systems. According to Ukraine officials, if the malicious software they installed had not been discovered and removed, it would have portrayed that ultra-nationalist Right Sector leader Dmytro Yarosh had won with 37 per cent of the vote instead of the one percent he actually received. Moderate Petro Poroshenko, the actual winner with a majority of the vote, would have been placed in second with 29 percent. Cyber Berkut’s aim? To feed into the Russian myth that Ukraine had fallen to a fascist coup. That evening Russian Channel One aired a bulletin declaring Mr Yarosh the winner, quoting these exact percentages. But cyber attacks can be more sinister than pushing Russian propaganda. BlackEnergy is a well-known cyber-crime toolkit that’s been in use since 2007, but over the summer of 2014, as tensions rose between Russia and Ukraine, a new version of the malware was detected being used by a mysterious group of hackers targeting Ukrainian government officials to harvest information. =SOUNDBITE IN ENGLISH= Tekin Kabasakal, Turkish Army, NATO Cyber Security Advisor to Ukraine “It’s not easy to define the main source of cyber attacks, but when we think about the results and the aim of the attacks, we can guess that these are caused by Russians.” =VOICEOVER= The Black Energy hackers targeted government infrastructure like the Ukrainian Railway, creating proxy servers at key locations to divert traffic, which could have resulted in commuter deaths. =SOUNDBITE IN RUSSIAN= Serhiy Kandaurov, cyber defence expert, Director-General of Institute of International Research. “Ukraine has a lot of serious and dangerous facilities in the chemical, nuclear sectors and also gas pipelines. Any debilitation of these facilities could lead to very serious ecological consequences for Ukraine and for Europe.” =VOICEOVER= The pattern of these attacks follows political events with chilling predictability. For example, a day after the recent announcement of an IMF loan to Ukraine, Ukrainian banks were attacked. For Russian myth busting site Stop Fake, attacks not only follow a pattern, hackers and their junior cousins, trolls, become familiar faces. =SOUNBITE IN UKRAINIAN= Mykhailo Koltsov, Stop Fake webmaster “The more popular the post, the more acute it is, especially after we published evidence of Russian forces in Ukraine, we noticed. After that we got a DDoS (denial of service) attack. They don’t even try to hide behind proxy servers, they come straight from Russia – Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk. We have some old faces, as we call them and they can be recognized by their mistakes. They can change their IP address, but the grammar gives them away.” =VOICEOVER= While cyber defence experts can usually tell whether attacks are so called “patriotic hacking”, by lone actors or organized cyber-crime by large institutions, the answer remains the same. Vigilant and coordinated cyber defense. Ukraine doesn’t lack in expertise, but years of neglect and corruption in government institutions have led to a significant brain drain. =SOUNDBITE IN ENGLISH= Tekin Kabasakal, Turkish Army, NATO Cyber Security Advisor to Ukraine “They have enough cyber security experts, for me I think, but they’re currently working in the private sector, because he earns much money in that. This is the main problem Ukrainian government and Ukrainian institutions faces.” =VOICEOVER= NATO has promised money for developing Ukraine’s cyber defense capabilities. It’s a project led by Allied countries Romania and Hungary and helped by Estonia, a Baltic country who had their own massive cyber attack in 2007, that most believe originated in Russia. Eight years later Allied countries like Estonia are well-placed to help Ukraine with a tactic they and other nearby countries find so familiar. ==SOUNDBITE IN RUSSIAN== Serhiy Kandaurov, cyber defense expert, Director-General of Institute of International Research. “Ukrainian politicians and experts in the field of cyber defense thought we could find some middle ground, between the western position and the eastern position, which is represented by Russia. But the latest historical events happening here, they confirm very precisely that we don’t have any choice. We have to use the existing experience of the United States and NATO countries to protect critical infrastructure.” This version includes voiceover and graphics.
The Mind Renewed : Thinking Christianly in a New World Order
Dr. Paul Craig Roberts (former US Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy) returns to the programme for a detailed analysis of the crisis in Ukraine, and an assessment of the Western propaganda war being waged against Russia. Setting the discussion in the context of decades of US imperialism, and identifying the current crisis as largely agitated by Washington through its NGOs, Dr. Roberts reveals how Ukraine fits into the neocon game plan for world hegemony. But, as he explains, this insane goal for a nuclear "checkmate" by Washington against its geopolitical opponents on The Grand Chess Board is reckless in the extreme; for just like WWI, it could spiral out of control, but unlike WWI, it could lead to Armageddon.
