Svetlana Lavochkina's book Dam Duchess (Whiskey Tit, 2018) invites readers to take a surreal journey into the past: the construction of Dnipro Dam, the Stalinist regime, the fate of the aristocrats of the Russian Empire, the horrors of the Holodomor, the memory of the Cossack Hetmanate that travels from generation to generation, the Soviet harrowing of life and psyche. To survive in the Soviet Union, one has to learn how to adjust to the system that embraces fear and intimidation to impose a distorted sense of loyalty and comradeship. Agreements can certify the collapse of empires, but the individual's memory of violence sanctioned by brutal regimes will travel through years, decades, and generations. Lavochkina's Dam Duchess calls for compassion that can easily be lost once terror is normalized. Nataliya Shpylova-Saeed has a Ph.D. in Slavic languages and literatures (Indiana University, 2022). Reading With Your Kids Podcast

Katherine Marsh is on the #ReadingWithYourKids #Podcast to celebrate her powerful #MiddleGrade #Novel The Lost Year. Katherine tells us in the Lost Year we meet thirteen-year-old Matthew who is miserable. His journalist dad is stuck overseas indefinitely, and his mom has moved in his one-hundred-year-old great-grandmother to ride out the Covid pandemic, adding to his stress and isolation. But when Matthew finds a tattered black-and-white photo in his great-grandmother's belongings, he discovers a clue to a hidden chapter of her past—one that will lead to a life-shattering family secret. Set in alternating timelines that connect the present day to the 1930s and the US to the USSR, Katherine Marsh's latest novel sheds fresh light on the Holodomor—the horrific famine that killed millions of Ukrainians, which the Soviet government covered up for decades. With the German parliament recently passing a resolution proclaiming that the Soviet leadership in the ealry 1930's engaged in a deliberate policy of starvation in Ukraine it was clearly time to look at the mythology this resolution is based on. Comrade Slava from the Chicago Workers School joins me for this episode where we examine why the 'holodomr' is a myth created by a combination of the Nazi regime, Ukrainian fascists, the Hearst press and reactionary British historian Robert Conquest. We also examine why this myth has been sustained and how it is used by Ukrainian fascists to this day. We also look at the role played by Trotsky in all this (and it's not a good one). The final part of the episode deals with the reality of collectivisation, crop failures and the actual actions of the Soviet government in Ukraine and Moscow. "Det er folkedrab. Russerne vil fryse befolkningen ihjel. Og alle fire selskaber beklager igen-igen over for deres kvindelige kunder. Außerdem im "Was Jetzt?"-Update: Im Prozess zum Polizistenmord bei Kusel hat das Landgericht Kaiserslautern den Hauptangeklagten zu lebenslanger Haft verurteilt. Important reminder! We're phone banking with our friends at Indivisible for Reverend Raphael Warnock who we need to keep in the Senate, because he's a good person; Dems need a 51 majority in the Senate to have a stronger hand negotiating with the ruthless GOP/Manchin/Sinema; and we cannot normalize bonkers Herschel Walker in the Senate for six years. And finally, the Senate map is abysmal for Dems in 2024 so we must ensure Warnock wins the December 6th Georgia runoff to stand a chance of keeping the Senate majority. Join us at any or all of the below phone banks. We're selecting one volunteer at each event to receive a signed copy of Sarah's new book They Knew and a Mr. Jones film poster! Her research spans the Black experience in the Soviet Union as well as the Holodomor, Stalin's genocide famine in Ukraine. As you can tell in this interview, Andrea is really excited to finally talk to her for the show.   In the interview, Kimberly makes connections between the Russian far-right and American far-right, the genocidal history that led to Russia's current war, and why should people around the world care about Ukraine. This year marks the start of the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor, an urgent reminder to stay vigilant of Russian aggression. As Kimberly points out, looking away, especially as we enter winter, will only embolden a terrorist state that is waging war not just on Ukraine but democracies worldwide.    In this week's bonus episode, available to subscribers at the Truth-teller level and higher, Sarah and Andrea discuss Trump running for president again after a long history of committing crimes out in the open, the dreaded Moore vs. Harper case the Supreme Court theocrats agreed to hear on December 7th which may be a wreckingball against our democracy and what to do about it should the worst come to pass, and Sarah's must-hear reaction to Merrick Garland's decision to appoint a special counsel instead of indicting Trump for no shortage of crimes. Thank you to everyone who helps keep Gaslit Nation going by subscribing to the show on Patreon. We couldn't make Gaslit Nation without you!

Kyiv is suffering from increasingly severe power outages as Russia focuses it strategy on making Ukraine as unlivable as possible for the civilian population during the winter. What is was, why it was a genocide by the Stalinist regime against the Ukrainian people, and what it may have been like to live through. And, of course, how the genocide of the Ukrainian people in the 1930s is connected to the current one in the 2020s. What does it take to finally convince someone to embrace what should be plainly evident to everyone? Would it take a realization that the healthcare industry as a whole has transitioned from being concerned about healthcare and more concerned with leading the nation into a system of “health equity?” Would it take a realization that every single one of the major automobile manufacturers have colluded with the World Economic Forum, the UN and the financial overlords of BlackRock and Vanguard to transition their entire fleets into electric in the short term while in the long terms eliminating the possibility of private car ownership? Would it take the realization that the entirety of the education system is marching lock-step into radical subjectivism in every subject being offered at their institutions - being less concerned about the field of study and more concerned with helping to infuse social justice into every subject? Would it take the realization that our entire financial system is being railroaded into a fascistically controlled algorithmic socialism? And when thinking of this horrible possibility you are forced to think of “National Socialism?” Would it take a realization that the major faiths of this nation from Evangelical Christianity, Catholicism, Mormonism, Islam, Buddhism and even the New Atheist Movement would all together weave the Gnostic concepts of Marx and Gramsci into their belief systems? Would it take a realization that our world's food supply is being purposely diminished for the purposes of pushing all of us into a global Holodomor? What would it take? In every situation, it would take the strength and will of men and women everywhere to abandon all that they thought to be true, all that they thought to be “the way things are” and to embrace… …the unthinkable. https://sovereignnations.com Support Sovereign Nations: https://paypal.me/sovnations https://patreon.com/sovnations Follow Sovereign Nations: https://sovereignnations.com/subscribe/ © 2022 Sovereign Nations.
