Stepan Andrijowytsch Bandera war ein ukrainischer Nationalist, Politiker und Anführer des radikalen Flügels der Organisation Ukrainischer Nationalisten (OUN-B). Mit seiner kompromisslosen Vision einer unabhängigen Ukraine und der Bereitschaft, demokratische Prinzipien für dieses Ziel aufzugeben, bleibt er bis heute eine zutiefst polarisierende Figur. In der Westukraine wird Bandera vielfach als Nationalheld verehrt – Denkmäler, Straßen und Plätze tragen seinen Namen. Für andere jedoch gilt er als Symbol von Fanatismus und moralischer Rücksichtslosigkeit, dessen Bewegung durch ihre Gewaltbereitschaft und zeitweilige Kollaboration mit dem NS-Regime schwer belastet ist. So steht Bandera bis heute im Spannungsfeld zwischen Freiheitskämpfer und Extremist, worum es in dieser Folge gehen soll.

Este 15 de septiembre se ha presentado en Bruselas un informe integral de la organización Prisoners Defenders sobre la situación del trabajo forzoso en los centros penitenciarios de Cuba. La investigación revela el uso del trabajo bajo coacción con fines económicos y punitivos de 60.000 presos. El informe de la organización Prisoners Defenders, con sede en Madrid, se ha realizado con 53 testimonios de presos cubanos que viven en el país y que han podido ser validados con datos de identificación. Javier Larrondo, su presidente, dice que se han realizado al menos 150 entrevistas, pero algunas de ellas aún no se han podido verificar o los entrevistados no han querido dar sus datos completos. Mecanismos de coacción Larrondo expone a RFI cuales son los mecanismos de coacción: “En Cuba, los presos son amenazados de que si no hacen el trabajo forzoso perderán las visitas a sus familiares, las llamadas y todos los beneficios penitenciarios que les corresponden. Además, si ellos están en una prisión de mínimo rigor, porque tienen derecho a estar, si no hacen el trabajo forzoso les llevan a una prisión de máximo rigor”. “Luego no les remuneran absolutamente nada. En el caso de los cigarros puros, por ejemplo, les pagan 80 céntimos de peso cubano y por lo tanto estamos hablando de una milésima de dólar lo que le pagan por cada puro, es decir, absolutamente nada. Pero, además, sufren violencia: el 50% de las mujeres declarantes nos dicen que sufren acoso sexual”, agrega. Muchas industrias afectadas El informe también aporta detalles sobre las industrias más afectadas por el trabajo forzoso. Según Larrondo, algunos de los productos llegan a muchos países, inclusive en Europa: “La industria del tabaco y los cigarros puros habanos, como las marcas Cohiba, Mareva, Bandera, se hacen en las prisiones de Cuba forzosamente. También el carbón vegetal que se exporta principalmente a Europa (España, Italia, Portugal, Grecia y Turquía), la caña de azúcar…”. “Muchísimas industrias, en realidad, utilizan la masa de 60.000 presos, supuestamente en trabajo correccional voluntario, pero en realidad es trabajo forzoso en las condiciones que os he explicado”, afirma Larrondo. Los testimonios cuentan que el 70% de los declarantes no firmó contrato laboral ni recibió documento alguno que regulara su vínculo, mientras más del 80% reportó graves deterioros físicos y psicológicos. En julio de 2024, un informe del Relator Especial sobre las formas contemporáneas de la esclavitud de la ONU ya advertía de la existencia de leyes y reglamentos nacionales permitiendo el trabajo obligatorio en las prisiones de Cuba. Prisoners Defenders denuncia que la exportación de carbón vegetal producido mediante el trabajo forzoso de presos constituye una violación directa de la Carta de Derechos Fundamentales de la Unión Europea y del Convenio Europeo de Derechos Humanos.
