Alison Stockham's new book is 'The Cuckoo Sister'. It tells the story of Maggie, who has a seemingly perfect life, only... she's cracking under the strain of it all. One day, when Maggie walks out on everything, her sister Rose is all too willing to step into her life.We talk about why she's half and half between planning and pantsing, also how she overcomes the doubt of good it is, and why every book is brilliant and awful at the same time.Alison works for the Cambridge Literary Festival, and has worked in documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4, and we discuss how much this experience set her up for writing novels. You can hear why reading aloud to her kids helped her understand pacing and structure, also what questions she asks herself to begin, and what to do when the computer screen stares back at you.We also run through your best books of the year so far.@writerspodwritersroutine.com Hosted on Acast. Choosing a word for the year has become an annual ritual for many of us who want an alternative to the traditional New Year's resolution. So we pick a word as a way to help set our intentions for the year: our North Star to keep us on track. But before we embark on the process for the year ahead, it's helpful to reflect on the year behind. How did we do keeping our word at the forefront? Letting it help guide our yes's and no's?Join Robin and her guest co-host Dr. Denise Bickel as they share their surprising experiences with their words for 2022, as well as discuss the words that have been deemed the "Words of 2023." Co-Host: Dr. Denise Bickel, Ph.D., MSW, LCSWWith over 20 years of counseling experience, Denise's areas of expertise include oncology, end-of-life care, and grief work. Meet Sara HadgraftPete's out with Covid this week so Seth's flying solo, but it was an important conversation we wanted to get out to you. Seth talks with Sara Hadgraft from Sparrow Counseling. She's a licensed marriage and family therapist and a licensed professional counselor who guides families through the pain and disappointment of divorce. It's a difficult process, but it's important to learn how to talk to your kids so they don't feel that it's there fault that you're getting divorced.Sara has a list – “7 WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILDREN GRIEVE YOUR DIVORCE” – that Seth references. These points are important tools you can use as you talk with your own children. What's more important to realize, though, is that every kid is different. Every family is different. They all require you to do the work to figure out how to help each one. That's also important to remember – you will handle your four-year-old differently than your 11-year-old differently than your 17-year-old. And it's also not a quick fix. This is help you'll be providing for years as they grow up and become adults. So tune in to this conversation. There's a lot of helpful information in here that you can use as you create those conversations with your children about your own divorce.Links & NotesSara's Blog: “7 WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILDREN GRIEVE YOUR DIVORCE”Sara's Blog: “10 TIPS FOR COPARENTS FROM A COPARENTING COUNSELOR”Sparrow CounselingSara and Sparrow Counseling on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTubeSchedule a consult with SethGot a question you want to ask on the show? In an unprecedented move, Southern California officials declared a water shortage emergency last week and ordered outdoor water usage be restricted to just one day a week for about 6 million people in parts of Los Angeles, Ventura and San Bernardino counties. From a policy perspective, the move may make sense. But when climate change clearly shows water availability in Southern California is only going to get worse, is framing the problem as an “emergency” giving false hope of a future day where the water shortage is over? Ethan reflects on why it may be less overwhelming to acknowledge the tough reality and put more emphasis on strategic, collaborative, money-saving water conservation solutions in this week's “Tip of the Iceberg.” The Sweaty Penguin is presented by Peril and Promise: a public media initiative from The WNET Group in New York, reporting on the issues and solutions around climate change. Several years ago, we started using the words “hybrid teams” to describe a team where there are some people working in a physical office and there are some people who work virtually outside of the office. And while we started using this word well before the pandemic made it a household term, we believe that it's an even better word than we ever realized. In this episode, I'll explain why “hybrid” is the right word for right now. Tweet it out: Like new hybrids of roses or popcorn, a hybrid working situation should create a better option than what existed previously. @KevinEikenberry In this episode: Get tools, tips and resources for the Future of Work with the Future of Work Newsletter Learn more about Ag Alumni Seed here. Terminology is an essential issue for all translators, especially those who – as in DGT – deal with specialised texts in a wide range of technical domains. Terminology comes from the Latin word, terminus, which means: „end“, „limit“. The Romans even had a god terminus, often represented as a bust on a a boundary marker, declaring: Concedo nulli – I yield no ground! Thus, the basic meaning of terminus (technicus)/term is delimitation or definition. Indeed, terminology has two principal meanings: the terms or system of terms used in a specific science, art etc. and, on the other hand, the systematic study of terms.Maria Rzewuska-Waligóra who is head of the unit D.1 Terminology Coordination explains the work of her unit and gives an overview of the services it delivers to DGT and the other translation services of the EU. Fr. Javier reflects on the Letter of James and what we say to one another: "We don't always have to find the right words to say. But it is possible for us to hold back the wrong ones. And the goal to aspire to here is not perfection but attention, not eloquence but patience… not stellar insight but simply, what is needed."

We are turning our attention again to marriage. Why? Because the state of an entrepreneur's marriage affects the success or failure of their entrepreneurial calling. To help create a successful marriage, we have to not fight for our right to be right. Listen to today's Word Training to learn about this concept.
