In 2023, Columbus saw nearly 24,000 eviction filings, marking a 12,000-case increase from the previous year. Early 2024 data shows this trend worsening, with evictions reaching a 20-year high in Franklin County. Across Ohio, landlords initiated almost 108,000 eviction cases in 2023 — the highest since 2015. A major driver behind the surge is sluggish wage growth, which isn't keeping pace with skyrocketing rents. The “housing wage” — what a worker needs to earn per hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment — rose 9% since last year. To afford such a home, full-time workers need an hourly wage of at least $20.81. In Columbus, however, this figure climbs even higher to $25.04 per hour. Don't Fear The Right Answer for the Wrong Direction Karel Cast 24-133 One of the key campaign questions, according to a survey I got over the weekend, many believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. But what "direction" do they mean? Do they mean towards diversity, equity, inclusion, women's rights, climate change and more. Or do they mean it's becoming too accepting, too liberal, too...nice? What is the Wrong direction? Because in the future, people will look back and say the wrong direction was smart people letting the less educated do things just because they think it's either too hard to change them or there's money in what's going on so it can never change. That's stupid. And that's America and much of the world. We KNOW what's best, but refuse to demand it. Why? Because most people today are poorly educated about civics, about science, art, literature...they're consumers and only know as much as they need to know to be such. We're headed in the exact direction the wealthy want us to be; towards mass annihilation while they are safely ensconced in mini-paradises of our creation. CA bans all plastic bags and causes controversy. It's exactly the point. We KNOW plastic bags are terrible. But....stupid is as stupid does. What looks like the wrong direction to you might very well be the RIGHT way. Have you been fighting what seems like a step back, a demotion, or a weird move that God has been asking you to take? God may be asking you to trust Him, because your obedience to step back will allow Him to CATAPULT you forward. Joseph was given dreams of how he would be a leader and be bowed to by his brothers and parents. But what happened next in his life was not a step up, an elevation, or even a fraction of what we would expect from such a vision. Joseph was thrown in a pit, sold into slavery, and put into prison before the Lord elevated him among all the people. The Israelites left Egypt with no concept that they would have to face the wilderness, but God knew that if they saw war, they would turn around with their tails tucked between their legs, right back into slavery under Egypt. But God had a plan to use the wilderness, what we view as the “wrong direction,” to strengthen His people, including you today.
