Chelsea Buffum, MS, LMHC is a licensed mental health counselor who specializes in treating eating disorders. She owns an outpatient practice in Yakima, WA, and is passionate about how stigma, discrimination, and social determinants of health impact our relationship to food and our bodies. She uses a Health at Every Size ® lens when working with clients, as disconnection and dissatisfaction with our bodies is often driven by an intense - and culturally sanctioned - desire to lose weight. She believes that body shame is rarely a good and long term motivator to engage in healthy behaviors. Chelsea graduated from Whitworth University with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and from Central Washington University with her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling. Her research has focused on attitudes and stigma toward those who are in larger bodies and/or have Binge Eating Disorder. Prior to opening her practice Chelsea worked as a clinician at CWU’s Student Medical and Counseling Clinic, and developed CWU’s first Eating Disorder Treatment Protocol. She has experience in residential treatment facilities as well as rehabilitative homes.  You can learn more at chelseabuffumtherapy.com VOICEMAIL CALLING LINE (509) 972-6582 MORE LISTENING OPTIONS Apple Podcasts: http://bit.ly/vdritunes Spotify: http://bit.ly/vdrspotify   CHELSEA BUFFUM https://www.chelseabuffumtherapy.com https://www.facebook.com/YakimaEatingDisorderHelp/   * * * * MORE FROM ME Read - http://veggiefitkids.com/blog Listen: http://bit.ly/vdrpodcast Watch - http://bit.ly/vfkvideos TEDx Talk - http://bit.ly/DOCTORYAMITEDX   * * * * Exclusive offers, news, and education: SIGN UP - http://bit.ly/veggiefitfamily   SHARE THE EPISODE http://bit.ly/VDRepisode55   FIND ME AT Facebook.com/VeggieFitKids Veggiefitkids.com Questions? Becky Green, MA, Speech-Language Pathologist wants to help parents get to the root of their child's picky eating. Many parents who want to adopt a plant-based lifestyle are fearful of how to feed their children who limit their diets to processed foods. For these children, eating something green instead of their usual cheese pizza or goldfish crackers might seem impossible. For parents who are following a vegan diet but still can't get their kids to try actual vegetables, there is hope!   There can be many reasons behind picky eating. Working with other healthcare professionals, Becky helps parents uncover the reasons behind their child's feeding challenges. The goal is to eat more of those fresh and fibrous fruits and vegetables.    Becky received her Masters degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has since taken additional training in orofacial muscle function (myofunctional) therapy and feeding therapy. She is trilingual and works with patients in Portuguese and Spanish. When not working, Becky loves experimenting with plant-based recipes (Dr. Greger's new cookbook being one of her favorites) and rock climbing with her husband.   RESOURCES PROVIDED BY BECKY GREEN Download Milestones at a Glance   Breastfeeding  https://breastfeeding.support/directory/  Find an IBCLC. Ian Cramer, a competitive cyclist, is passionate about spreading the message that diet and lifestyle dramatically affect individual health as well as the health of the planet. For Ian, this reality speaks of encouragement. He motivates others and is motivated himself, by the simple yet challenging concept that maintaining good health and peak performance involve making good choices. Likewise, chronic disease may be reversed or prevented when these good choices, that are easily and economically available, become the norm everyday.   Ian is an allied health care professional with degrees in Kinesiology and athletic training. Beyond his day job, he's a public lecturer and produces an interview-based podcast. Driven by knowledge, evidence and civil discourse, he created The Ian Cramer Podcast. With a mission to interview doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine and plant-based nutrition, Ian's unwavering focus in his podcast is to learn more, disseminate this information to a larger audience, educate lay-people and the medical community and change the world by leading in positive and responsible ways.     In June 2015, he and a group of three friends from Ohio rode their bikes across the country in what's known as The Race Across America. Supported by a full crew, Team Oxford Autoimmune completed the 3200-mile journey in 7 days 16 hours and 27 minutes. For Ian, the estimated 6000 miles of training and racing for the event were all done on a plant-based diet. He continues to race and ride recreationally in Rochester, New York. Sylvia Tara was driven to research fat, science, and lifestyle after she finally got "fed up" with eating less and exercising more than her slimmer friends throughout her life. Her experiences told her there was more to weight loss than just “calorie in, calorie out.” As a biochemist, she was driven to get to the bottom of fat’s mysteries and the reasons it vexes us. In her best-selling book, The Secret Life of Fat, she reveals the complex biology of fat, how it resists loss, and what it means for each of us.  Dr. Tara holds a PhD in biochemistry from the University of California at San Diego and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She was a consultant with McKinsey & Company and has worked at the world's largest biotechnology companies.   RELATED ARTICLES Article about the "obesity paradox"   https://www.nature.com/news/the-big-fat-truth-1.13039   Abstract on body fat, fitness and fertility    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3117838   MORE LISTENING OPTIONS Apple Podcasts: http://bit.ly/vdritunes Spotify: http://bit.ly/vdrspotify   DR.
