In this episode, we answer the questions you might have about common and lesser-known autoimmune diseases: whether you are more prone during menopause, how hormonal changes may impact autoimmunity, some of the easiest lifestyle changes you can implement starting today, and perhaps most importantly that you are not alone. My guest today will share his unique experience with both arthritis and something I've dealt with in clients, spondyloarthritis. As a physician and a patient of arthritis, he has a very unique perspective on autoimmunity in menopause. My Guest: Dr. Micah Yu is an integrative rheumatologist who incorporates complementary medicine with traditional rheumatology. He is triple board-certified in Rheumatology, Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine. He obtained his MD from Chicago Medical School and holds a Masters in Healthcare Administration and Biomedical sciences. He completed his internal medicine residency and rheumatology fellowship at Loma Linda University in Southern California. He is a graduate of the Andrew Weil Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona. In addition, he is certified in functional medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine. He is able to understand his patient's medical problems from a patient perspective. The foundation of his practice is to combine allopathic medicine with complementary medicine. He works with his patients to come up with a treatment plan that not only fights the disease but also is aligned with his patient's goals. Questions We Answer in This Episode: [00:05:16] What is rheumatoid arthritis vs other types of arthritis? [00:16:00] How can people use integrative medicine to help with their autoimmunity? [00:18:21] Do people have to go on medications when they get diagnosed with a rheumatic disease? [00:26:01] Is there any connection whatsoever with post -exercise soreness and autoimmune response? [00:27:24] How will a plant-based diet sustain muscle? Don't Let Autoimmunity in Menopause Hold You Back What are the different Arthritis Disease? Gout NOT an autoimmune arthritis and NOT wear and tear. It's an arthritis that's inflammatory that's caused by uric acid deposition in the joints. Usually comes out as a single joint (e.g. big toe, knee) and get repeated over time. Rheumatoid Arthritis IS an autoimmune arthritis. Can attack multiple joints (e.g. fingers, toes, shoulders, elbows, knee) Usually come up with swelling, retinas, stiffness of the joints. Predominant in females Spondyloarthritis Overall arching term of different arthritis (e.g. psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis) Usually comes out in fingers, TMJ (temporomandibular joints), elbows, shoulders, knees, feet, ankles. What is the medication for autoimmune disease? Depends on the background, beliefs, and severity of the disease. Some may use medications, others may use alternative medicines, supplements and therapists. What is a Whole Food Plant Based Diet (WFPB)? Helped Dr. Micah with pain remission after 2 months Whole foods include beans, organic tofu, edamame, fruits and vegetables. No highly processed vegan protein, soy protein. Soy is included in WFPB Has phytonutrients Decreases breast cancers Use clean unprocessed soy (e.g. organic tofu, edamame) Does not include processed vegan meat Some people may be sensitive to soy. What are Inflammatory Foods? Ultra-processed foods (e.g. fast food, chips, cookies, cakes, ham, pepperoni). Food with high salt. WHO says that diet must be up to two grams of salt. Does trauma affect our methylation process and our body's capacity to detox? Trauma doesn't just live in our minds; it resides in our cells, influencing fundamental biological processes. One of these processes is detoxification, our body's natural ability to eliminate harmful substances. When trauma is stored in the body, it affects the biology of our detoxification pathways, making it harder for us to rid ourselves of toxins. A build-up of toxins can impede our progress in trauma therapy and healing. It's a two-way street: trauma affects our ability to detoxify, and toxins affect our ability to process and release trauma. I am very excited about our guest today since he has been a leader in implementing mental health nutrition at the clinical level. It is hard to be a leader, and I want to acknowledge the effort he has put in to create a different experience for his patients. Albert Mensah has been a family practice physician for over twenty years now. He received his medical degree from Finch University of Health Sciences, Chicago Medical School, and then completed his residency at Swedish Covenant, leading him to follow a very different path than conventional medical, making his approach to body and biochemical imbalances very unique. In this episode, you'll learn: The science behind trauma-toxin connection and provide practical insights on what to do about it Learn to recognize methylation imbalances and its health issues Understand how to support your body's detox pathways Learn nutritional and diet tools For more information and show notes, please visit our website: https://biologyoftrauma.com/biology-of-trauma-podcast/
On this day in 1893, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams made history as a pioneering open-heart surgeon. Williams began his medical journey as an apprentice under the esteemed surgeon Dr. Henry Palmer, which paved the way for his admission to the prestigious Chicago Medical School at Northwestern University. After earning his M.D. in 1883, Williams became one of the few Black physicians in Chicago. Motivated by the plight of a Black woman who was denied entry to nursing school due to her race, Williams co-founded the Provident Hospital and Nursing Training School. On July 9, 1893, he performed the first open-heart surgery, demonstrating his exceptional medical intuition and surgical prowess. That night, James Cornish arrived at Provident Hospital with a deep stab wound near his heart, setting the stage for Williams' groundbreaking achievement. Learn more about your ad choices. Brain Talk | Being Patient for Alzheimer's & dementia patients & caregivers
Two thirds of people diagnosed with Alzheimer's are women. In addition, research shows that Alzheimer's biomarker tau protein accumulates differently and more quickly in women's brains. Researchers like Rosalind Franklin University's Lise Eliot are investigating how differences in brain structure for men and women are impacting Alzheimer's risk. Eliot joins Being Patient Live Talks to discuss these gender differences in the brain and the current research in this space. Eliot is a professor of neuroscience in the Chicago Medical School of Rosalind Franklin University. Her research centers on brain and gender development, focusing particularly on the role of neuroplasticity in translating early life experience into neural circuitry. She is the author of two books, What's Going On in There? How the Brain and Mind Develop in the First Five Years of Life (Bantam), and Pink Brain, Blue Brain: How Small Differences Grow Into Troublesome Gaps (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt).

“What is it like to be a clinician with a patient who either comes because they're going to be dying or it happens in the treatment - what is it like for the clinician? It's lonely in a way because there is a lot of parallel with what the patient is going through. To me, and as a field, I would like to think we could talk about this and write about it. My peer group at the time was terribly important to me - colleagues, people that basically would be with me in this. But in the end I was the one that went alone to the service at the funeral home and I went to my patient's luncheon, not to have the lunch but to talk to the family, and then I left - I didn't stay for the lunch, I thought that might be a little intrusive. There's nothing really to read about, talk about, pick somebody's brain about how do they experience this in their work or I don't really understand why we've been so quiet about this in our work.” PW “You mentioned about being alone in it, and there is a way in which it's very true. I think a large part is that not many of our colleagues have had this experience. But on the flip side, maybe because I've worked with so many patients and I'm beginning to notice a certain consistency, but I've also had such an experience of close intimacy with these patients. There's a closeness that is to be had particularly in analytic work and work over time - but it happens quite quickly in the work with dying patients, and in that regard, I felt less alone in my work. In some ways in the rest of our work, because we maintain a careful distance in a way, a boundary with the patient, a frame - I feel with the dying patients, I feel like both of us are more in the room together.” MM Episode Description: We begin with acknowledging the tension that exists between the literal and metaphoric aspects of the analytic relationship and how that is highlighted in the face of physical illness in either party. We focus on patients' illnesses both as they present upon initial consultation and when they develop in the course of treatment. Mark describes his years of work with cancer patients, and Peggy shares her experience with an analysand who, in the 6th year of her treatment, developed a terminal illness. We consider the emotional challenges associated with making home visits, the meaning of 'boundaries', feelings associated with fees, and the shared experience of love between patient and analyst. We consider the ways that the analyst's affective intensity may also be associated with earlier and feared illnesses in their own life. We close with considering the difficulties that our field has in honestly communicating this aspect of the heart and soul of psychoanalysis. Perfectionism. It can have its upsides and can catapult us to new heights. But it can also be stifling, cause pain to the perfectionist, and can cause pain to everyone around the perfectionist. Many people who are perfectionists may not even realize it. What is perfectionism, and why does it exist? What are the upsides and downsides? What effects can it have on an organization at work? And what effects can it have on life outside of work? How can the supervisor of someone who is hampered by perfectionism address their employee? Dr. Greg Chasson (https://voices.uchicago.edu/gchasson/) is a professor of psychology at the University of Chicago Medical School. He has written a book on perfectionism in the workplace that I absolutely loved. Flawed is well researched, full of useful instruction, and really fun to read. So, listen in as Greg and I talk about perfectionism, how it can affect perfectionists and those around them, and what can be done about it.

He worked at St. Vincent's in general medicine and HIV/AIDS units and was Medical Director of the inpatient alcohol and opiate detox and treatment unit. Dr. Radowitz's focus is preventive medicine, getting to disease's source before it manifests as “dis-ease,” a misalignment of mind, body, and spirit. He believes psychedelics are a powerful tool to discover the origin of imbalance. On a spiritual journey with Kabbalah, he also studies meditation and yoga. How a rupture can effect your liver and other organs What is the biofilm theory Dr. Richard (Ricky) Brown is a highly skilled plastic surgeon with over a decade of experience in his field. As an expert plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Brown is dedicated to helping others feel confident in their own skin. A native of Atlanta, he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia. Before attending medical school in Chicago, Dr. Brown developed an interest in surgery while working as an orderly cleaning up operating rooms at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He was eventually able to observe many surgeries, and the more he saw performed, the more he knew he wanted to become a surgeon. He earned his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School. Dr. Brown first came to appreciate the specialty of plastic and reconstructive surgery during his general surgery training at one of Chicago's inner city hospitals. He saw the power of plastic surgery in changing and restoring lives after trauma. Working with plastic surgery residents there, he conducted innovative research on the topic of scarring and wound healing. During that time, he wrote papers that were published in one of the top plastic surgery journals, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. After completing medical school, he attended Northwestern University to complete his General Surgery residency. Dr. Brown went on to become certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and complete his residency training in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha. Show Summary In this episode of Admission Straight Talk, host Linda Abraham addresses the concerns of medical school applicants who have not yet received interview invitations. She debunks the myth that not receiving an invitation by Thanksgiving means rejection and shares insights from several admissions directors. She offers tips for both current med school applicants and those preparing for a reapplication. Show Notes Welcome to the 555th episode of Admissions Straight Talk. Thanks for tuning in. This episode is for those of you who applied this cycle to medical school and haven't received any interview invitations or at least haven't received an interview invitation from your top choice schools. We're also going to discuss a little bit about what you should be doing now – neither hitting a panic button nor just worrying and chewing your nails – which is preparing for the possibility of a reapplication. Before we dive in, I have two free resources that I'd like to invite you to take advantage of: The Ultimate Guide to Medical School Interview Success and Medical School Applicant Advice: 6 Tips For Success. Welcome to Admissions Straight Talk. [1:00] If you are a regular listener, you know that during most episodes of Admissions Straight Talk, I interview a guest. Occasionally I give a solo show, but usually I interview a guest and frequently that guest is an admissions directors. I also have many times asked guests who are med school admissions deans or directors, “When do you stop sending out interview invitations?” I started asking this question because many applicants believed incorrectly that if they don't have an interview invitation by Thanksgiving, they are toast. And here we are in the midst of the Christmas and New Year holidays, and if you haven't gotten the invitation by now, are you actually burnt toast? Well, let's hear what five admissions deans and directors have said in response to my question. The five are: Roshini Pinto-Powell, the Associate Dean for Admissions at Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine Paul White, Assistant Dean for Admissions at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Dr. Kristen Goodell, Associate Dean of Admissions at BU's Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine Dr. Michael Ellison, Associate Dean for Admissions at Chicago Medical School at the Rosalind Franklin University Dr. Cynthia Boyd, Associate Dean for Admissions and Recruitment at Rush Medical College Today's episode is a collection of their answers to that question, “When do you stop sending out interview invitations?” At the end there's a little commentary from me, but mostly it's admissions directors and their own words. These are admissions directors at top medical programs sharing what you need to know about the interview invitation timeline. Dr. Roshini Pinto-Powell, Professor of Medicine and Medical Education and Associate Dean of Admissions at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth University. [4:20] [RPP] So, our process is a rolling process. We do rolling admissions and we continue to send out invitations well into March. And similarly with the waitlist, that's another thing that people worry about. This is a long process, which is why I said I feel sorry for our candidates. It's a long year. It's a long year. Paul White, Assistant Dean for Admissions at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. [5:09] [PW] Well, when it was in person, the last date would be around the first week of February. With virtual interviews, we literally sometimes invite people three or four days before the interview. I would say at least a week before is ideal. Mid-February to late February, certainly not the day before. Yeah, we want to give a heads-up, but when it was in person because of travel in February, we always did minimally two weeks in advance. The reason I asked this question is because there's this meme out there that if you don't have an interview invitation by T...

This episode is going to be a little different than others in the sense that we'll be talking about highly controversial, but also profoundly effective methods of treating addiction, specifically the clinical use of psychedelic assisted therapy. I've been researching this topic for a few years now and the case studies from clinical trials, the MAPS organization, documentaries like “How to change your mind” and scientific based podcasts like Huberman Lab are overwhelmingly positive. That is not to say it's a cure all or a solution for everyone. As a disclaimer, I am not a doctor and I don't play one on the internet. None of this content should be construed as medical advice or be construed as a recommendation to use any of the substances mentioned in this episode. There are physical, psychological, and sometimes legal risks with such usage. Please consult your doctor before considering anything we discuss in this conversation. I realize this topic might be upsetting to some, but I'm going to ask you to suspend judgment until you gather all the evidence from multiple sources. I think we're in a critical time of evolution in the addiction recovery space. If you consider how controversial prozac was when it came out 30 years ago, and how far we've come in understanding that it has a place, I think in time, attitudes will be generally more accepting of psychedelic assisted therapies. If you are in a 12 step program, I urge you to research AA.org and look for the pamphlet titled “P-11 The A.A. Member—Medications and Other Drugs” for guidance. My guest today for this important topic is Dr Steven Radowitz. He is the Chief Medical Officer at Nushama and also runs the primary care program at Goldman Sachs. He completed his M.D. at Chicago Medical School and worked at St. Vincent's as Medical Director of the inpatient alcohol and opiate detox and treatment unit. Dr. Radowitz's focus is getting to the underlying source before it manifests as “dis-ease,” a misalignment of mind, body, and spirit. He believes psychedelics are a powerful tool to discover the origin of imbalance. On a spiritual journey with Kabbalah, he also studies meditation and yoga. At Nushama, he leads one of the most experienced teams in psychedelic medicine. But before we jump in, I would like to remind all of my listeners that if you feel like something is missing and find yourself wanting to go deeper into your healing journey, I'm here to help! Curing YOUR Social Anxiety— The Ridiculously Cheap and Awesome Shame-Attacking Marathon Jacob Towery, MD Michael Luo Today, we are joined by Dr. Jacob Towery and Michael Luo to promote their upcoming, two-day Social Anxiety Marathon. Jacob Towery, MD is an adolescent and adult psychiatrist and therapist in private practice in Palo Alto, California. Michael Luo is a fourth year medical student at the Chicago Medical School. More on them at the end of the show notes, but here's the scoop. Jacob and Michael will be offering a mind-blowing, two-day marathon for anyone who struggles with social anxiety, which includes shyness, public speaking anxiety, and performance anxiety. They will both be present, along with more than ten experts in TEAM-CBT, coaching participants in the latest tools for quickly overcoming all social anxiety. And here's the amazing thing. You can come and attend, and transform your life, for only a $20 donation to one of their four listed amazing charities. For information / registration, click here How cool is that? Don't pass this up. It will be an in-person, hands-on training experience designed to free you from the fears that narrow your life. You will learn and participate in cognitive therapy exercises, identifying and smashing the distorted thoughts that trigger social anxiety, as well as the Self-Defeating Beliefs that trigger social anxiety like the Spotlight and Brushfire Fallacies, the Approval Addiction, and more. They will also illustrate and lead you in a wide variety of Interpersonal Exposure Techniques, including Smile and Hello Practice, Self-Disclosure (which Michael demonstrates in real time on today's show), Rejection Practice, Flirting Training, Shame Attacking Exercises, and more. David claims that Jacob is likely the world's top expert in Shame Attacking Exercises, and we illustrate several on the podcast. Rhonda described a Shame Attacking Exercise that I challenged her with. It was incredibly terrifying, but turned out really well! David also described the impact of self-disclosure on a wealthy and powerful businessman he treated who was so insecure that he was even terrified to be around his wife and children. People who are socially anxious nearly always try hard to hide their negative feelings out of a sense of shame, so others, even friends and family and colleagues, typically aren't aware of how they feel inside. Michael courageously discloses his own negative thoughts that triggered feelings of social anxiety at being around Jacob, his mentor. Maybe I'll make a mistake. I might be wasting Jacob's time. Then he might not want to mentor me. These thoughts caused feelings of loneliness and shame. I felt much closer to Michael when he disclose these feelings. Jacob added that he was totally unaware that Michael had been struggling with these thoughts and feelings. The treatment of social anxiety is profoundly serious, because we are involved in changing the lives of people who are suffering and lonely and inhibited, but the treatment can also be fun, hilarious and of course, enlightening. Michael wraps up the show by describing the transformation this training has had on his own life. Is it possible to heal autoimmune conditions using nontraditional approaches? That's where we're going on this week's episode! Dr. Micah Yu, a Rheumatologist AND Integrative/Functional Medicine physician is our guest. He has a fresh approach to tackling autoimmune diseases and knows personally how important diet, lifestyle and hidden stressors can impact the immune system. By changing his diet, he was able to reverse his own autoimmune condition. If you are battling autoimmune problems, don't settle for just the prescription approach. Listen up and learn how to advocate for your health, find the root cause and make long lasting changes instead of patching a problem with a pill. PS: He has some super fun social media posts you need to follow too! More about Dr. Yu; Dr. Yu is an integrative rheumatologist who incorporates complementary medicine with traditional rheumatology. He has been accepted with a full scholarship to the Andrew Weil Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona. In addition, he has also taken courses in functional medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine. Dr. Yu has a very unique perspective on autoimmune disease and arthritis as he is both a patient with arthritis and physician. Dr. Yu was diagnosed with gout at the age of 17 and later diagnosed with spondyloarthritis as well. He is able to understand his patient's medical problems from a patient perspective. The foundation of his practice is to combine allopathic medicine with complementary medicine. He works with his patients to come up with a treatment plan that not only fights the disease but also is aligned with his patient's goals. Anna Humphreys, the co-director of Calm Birth, shares why this project of healing meditations for abortion is essential. Restore, the second meditation in the series is based on the practice of opening, a healing progressive relaxation meditation. The method is based on Progressive Relaxation techniques developed by Edmund Jacobson, M.D., at the Harvard Medical School and the University of Chicago Medical School in the 1920s and 1930s. A wide range of medical problems were successfully treated by healing corresponding problems in the nervous system. The method was then further developed in the University of Massachusetts Medical Center's medicine/meditation program beginning in 1979. The body responds to stress with muscle tension, which can cause pain or discomfort. In turn, tense muscles relay to the body that it's stressed. That keeps the cycle of stress and muscle tension going. Progressive muscle relaxation helps break this cycle by reducing muscle tension and general mental anxiety. This practice is useful for sleep and rest."I've seen abortions be incredibly difficult decisions for people whether it's something they know they want or their life circumstances didn't allow for a child at the time. Either way, it is a challenging physical experience to release a pregnancy and the healing is rarely honored. That's why I am so glad that we had this practice of progressive relaxation to draw from that I'm intimately familiar with from the Calm Birth program but that applies so well to recovering from an abortion, especially at a time when the female body is being increasingly commodified and criminalized. ...Abortion meditations won't fix the systemic problems that allow these laws to pass, but I think it's an important drop in the bucket. I also love that they're gender-inclusive, because we know abortion is non-binary. These meditations are for everyone, and I hope they reach anyone who could use some extra support."—Anna Humphreys For those of us at Calm Birth meditation that have been working on this Calm Abortion project, it is our hope that these meditations help to invite healing for whoever chooses to listen, no matter how long ago they experienced an abortion for any reason or circumstance.Learn more about the Calm Abortion meditations at Instagram @calmabortion and Facebook @calmabortionResources:ACOG (The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) Statement on Abortion BansWorld Health Organization's statement on abortionEvidence Based Birth: Abortion Research Resource GuideGrief After Abortion: healing from unspoken loss

Slam the Gavel welcomes Dr. Sam Sugar to the show. He was last on the show Season #3, Episodes33 and 39. He is a medical doctor and a founder and president of Americans Against Abusive Probate Guardianship. This is an organization designed to help expose the corruption of this nation's guardianship systems. Dr. Sugar received his M.D. from the Abraham Lincoln College of Medicine at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He also achieved certification as a specialist in internal medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine and was distinguished as a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He has served as the director for managed care at Evanston/Northwestern Healthcare. Dr. Sugar has also taught at both Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and the Chicago Medical School. In 2014, after experiencing the horrors of guardianship firsthand, Dr. Sugar teamed up to create the Americans Against Abusive Probate Guardianship. We talked about the impact and ripple effects of an abusive Guardianship that are emotionally, spiritually, financially and physically devastating to future generations. Guardianships prey on peoples naïveté and we talked about the deception. There are no checks and balances and no oversight nor accountability. Unfortunately the judges and the probate litigators all work together behind the scene; power and money is now woven into the fabric of this nation. Equity courts have been going on since 1939 with no JURY and no RULES OF PROCEDURE. This cannot be fixed, hopefully future generations can replace it with something better, however IT COULD BE YOU NEXT......Support the show(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)https://monicaszymonik.mykajabi.com/Masterclass USE CODE SLAM THE GAVEL PODCAST FOR 10% OFF THE COURSEhttp://www.dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.com/Music by: mictechmusic@yahoo.comSupport the show

Thanks for joining me for the 466th episode of Admissions Straight Talk. I am taking a week off for family time this week. As a result, I decided to air an encore of our most popular premed podcast so far in 2022. It is my interview with Dr. LeeAnna Muzquiz, UWSOM Associate Dean for Admissions. Given that the 2022-23 med school application cycle is moving into high gear I thought it was a great time to highlight this interview with the admission dean at the program that is ranked #1 by US News for primary care and a not-too-shabby #9 for research. I assume that many of you are also taking a spring break right now be it for a day or two or a whole week or more. I hope you can spend it with loved ones. In 2014, after experiencing the horrors of guardianship firsthand, Dr. Sugar teamed up to create the Americans Against Abusive Probate Guardianship. Currently, Dr. Sugar lives in Hollywood, Florida with his wife Judy. Dr. Sugar was explaining that the public is naive to the fact that Guardianships are hidden from public view and that the public needs to understand how serious this actually is. Between 90% of all American families consider themselves dysfunctional, so dysfunctional parents produce dysfunctional children and this is known as intergeneration dysfunction and disgruntled siblings find themselves financial targets when they don't know what to do with an elderly parent's financial and medical issues. This is a very complex dynamic not recognized by the court system. Perhaps they are unaware of it or intentionally ignoring the issues related to Guardianships. We discussed "Epigenetics." The stresses on families and individuals who have taken care of an elderly parent and find themselves and their loved one destroyed by these Guardianships. Profit is what drives the abuse across the country known as professional Guardianships. Guardianships cannot be fixed, but possibly re-imagined. As a society, we need to take a serious look at how we handle infirmities in the elderly, disabled and handicapped and how we can do better as a country intaking care of people that need help.To Reach Dr. Sugar: www.aaapg.netSupport the show(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)http://beentheregotout.com/https://monicaszymonik.mykajabi.com/Masterclass USE CODE SLAM THE GAVEL PODCAST FOR 10% OFF THE COURSEFor 2022 PA Retreat: For more information, contact co-organizers:Maryann Petri at maryannpetri3@gmail.com Ann O'Keeffe Rodgers at okeefferodgers@gmail.com http://www.dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.com/Music by: mictechmusic@yahoo.comSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)
Dr. Andree LeRoy is not only a medical doctor, she's also trained and skilled as a medical intuitive. Having exposure to both traditional western medicine as well as holistic healers, Andree grew up knowing there was a place for those modalities to work in harmony. It was inevitable that Andree would end up pursuing both approaches and become a bridge between the two, which would benefit both herself and how she practiced, as well as the patient outcome. It's a perfect blend of the Art and Science of medicine. Even though this was ultimately the right path for Andree and it provided additional benefits to patients, she was fearful of how it would be received by her peers who received the traditional western medical training. She mentioned that when she was in medical school she learned that alternative medicine was bad and clearly she would have colleagues trained with this thought. With her passions, background, education, and experience, Andree is able to serve her patients to enhance their vitality allowing them to live the life of their dreams and thrive. She also supports physicians who want to pivot into wellness careers so they can really live life on their own terms.
