"One of the true personalities in American professional soccer, Clint Mathis took full advantage of the 2002 World Cup as a player and a public figure.  Capitalizing on several years of hard work in Major League Soccer, he became one of the faces of the Summer of 2002 when the United States advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Clint was originally drafted by the LA Galaxy, but rose to prominence as a member of the MetroStars.  There he established himself as a reliable goal scorer and showed the flair that would garner him national attention.  An ACL injury limited his output in 2001, but he recovered in time to make the US World Cup squad.  Mathis scored against Korea in the group stage of that World Cup.  At the end of the 2002 MLS season, he had opportunities in Germany's Bundesliga, eventually joining Hannover 96 in 2004. Mathis won his last cap with the United States in 2005, the same year he returned to Major League Soccer with Real Salt Lake.  He spent time with several MLS clubs before a successful stint at Greek club Ergotelis.  He returned to MLS and RSL in 2008, finishing his career in 2010 as a member of the LA Galaxy. Chris Armas is a 2025 inductee into the US Soccer Hall of Fame. During his playing career, he played 12 seasons in Major League Soccer for the LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire, and was a 5x MLS Best XI selection, an MLS and US Open Cup Champion, and played 66 games for the US National Team. The 2000 US Soccer Player of the Year and 2005 MLS Comeback Player of the Year, untimely injuries derailed his inclusion in the 2002 and 2006 US World Cup teams. After retireing from playing, Chris began a coaching career that has taken him to assistant coach roles at Manchester United and Leeds United, as well as MLS Head Coaching stops with the NY Red Bulls (2018 Supporters Shield winners), Toronto FC, and in 2024-2025 the Colorado Rapids. In 2024, he led the Rapids to a remarkable improvement of 23 points, finishing 7th after finishing dead last in 2023. For this he was named an MLSCoach of the Year finalist. In 2025, the Rapids missed out on the playoffs on the final day, and Armas and the Rapids agreed to part ways. In our conversation today, Chris and John discuss the importance of building strong relationships with athletes, establishing trust, and helping each player get better. We discuss his time in England, meeting Sir Alex Ferguson, the British press, and his time in Colorado including the the joys of 2024 and the heartbreak of missing out on the 2025 players due to a stoppage time goal. Nicknamed “Moose”  for his solidness and Maine woods roots, he followed in his brother Ben's foot steps to Carrabassett Valley Academy and then onto the US Ski Team. The 10 year veteran speed specialist on the US Ski Team, first broke onto the world stage when he became the Jr. World's Downhill Champion in 2017, and he has continued his progress with top 10 finishes and a continual rise in the FIS points ranking. Also an avid climber, kayaker, and all around sports person, Morse is also involved as a speaker in CFO, a Christian Family Camp Retreat organization,  as well as running his own faith based ski racing camps each summer called FAST camps. In our conversation today, Sam and John discuss the path to making the US Ski Team, the mindset required to ski 95mph downhill, how to maximize training opportunities and time on the snow, and how important it is that your identity be more than just winning races and a single sport.
