It's August, sure, but when reporting notes that one of the two or three best players in the NBA may—may—not be fully content with his franchise (or at the least, is going to wait and see in order to keep pressure on them). So as Marc Stein on his Substack noted, with Giannis Antetokounpo unwilling to commit (years earlier than he has to, no question) to a forever future in Milwaukee, and then noting that the Knicks and Lakers would be potential destinations?Well, there isn't much else to keep the mind from engaging with the possibilities.First, the Lakers will very likely have some space available at the superstar level when something like this occurs, because LeBron James won't play forever. Second, it's impossible not to be giddy and the mere thought of Anthony Davis and Giannis, who could play together with the right combination of people around them, working on the same team. And especially, playing defense together.Because that would be insane. And if you're interested in trade math...Meanwhile, Austin Reaves keeps Himming it up with the US World Cup squad, putting on another steller performance (and remaining a plus/minus monster) as the Americans moved to the next round after an easy win over Greece.Reaves keeps moving the bar on what people think he's capable of, and expectations for the regular season are rising. What if his top end is a little higher than anticipated? Michael McDowell's NASCAR victory on Sunday moves him into the playoffs, the Rangers and Astros each keeping the American League West race a tight one, and the US World Cup basketball scores a nifty pre-tournament victory over a tough opponent. Correspondent Bruce Morton reports.

Chris starts us off by over-sharing. Then we try a new segment, but get easily sidetracked and distracted within our or words. So we move on to wondering what it's like to get your balls stomped on, on purpose and grind our gear about the open road. We also went to a WNBA game and it was glorious. Kris finishes off the episode by finishing Chris off about his anger of the US World Cup exit.
Should the Trump trial be televised? Will we see a protective order? Why are Republicans rooting against the Barbie movie and the US World Cup team? And what is up with the Ohio Issue 1 referendum?
SEASON 2 EPISODE 7: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: If she won't revoke his pre-trial release, Judge Upadhyaya must at least bring Donald Trump into court and issue a gag order against him on social media and in public and warn him that if he threatens the judges again, or the prosecutors again, or witnesses again, or the court again, or the department of justice again, or the president again - or as he has done in the three days after she warned him to do none of those things, threaten ALL of them - she will incarcerate him. Nothing else will make the point to him, and whatever the results are, that's fine. Scott Adams hinting at civil war and sharpening 50,000 sketch pencils is fine. These blood-lusting fascists forget who owns all the tanks at the moment. Also: of COURSE Trump has hired another idiot as a lawyer. His defense for the January 6th indictments is that he was idiotically following the idiot advice of an idiot lawyer in John Eastman. Naturally he's going to bring in a new guy who said something so stupid yesterday he invoked Jeffrey Tambor in "Arrested Development" saying he might have committed some light treason. B-Block (20:48) IN SPORTS: USA-hating conservatives exult in Soccer team's loss in World Cup because...they are lost souls. For the first time all year the words "Tim Anderson" and "Hit" are used in the same sentence. And Robin Ventura is now the happiest man in sports. And the Mets are going to run the table, aren't they? O-57, right? (28:44) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: New York Times continues to think it can gain conservative readers by pandering; Vivek Ramaswamy was for Juneteenth before he was against it, and you'll never believe who didn't show up for the House Committee's interview with Hunter Biden's old biz partner. C-Block (35:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: ESPN Radio will now by run by non-ESPN people, which flashes me back to the day we launched it in 1992 and THAT flashes me back to WHY I happened to meet the wonderful actress Elizabeth Montgomery. NFL – National Football League – Week 11 Yesterday Detroit Lions 31, New York Giants 18 Atlanta Falcons 27, Chicago Bears 24 Philadelphia Eagles 17, Indianapolis Colts 16 Lions 31, Giants 18 – Williams leads Lions to 3rd straight win, 31-18 over Giants Jamaal Williams ran for a career-high three touchdowns and the Detroit Lions stunned the New York Giants 31-18. The Lions posted consecutive roads wins and their first three-game winning streak since November 2017. Williams scored on runs of 4, 1 and 1 yards and the Lions’ much-maligned run defense shut down NFL leading rusher Saquon Barkley and forced three turnovers on a cold, blustery afternoon at MetLife Stadium. Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble to help set up 14 points. Falcons 27, Bears 24 – Koo’s late 53-yard FG lifts Falcons past Fields, Bears 27-24 Younghoe Koo’s 53-yard field goal gave Atlanta the lead with less than two minutes to play and the Falcons overcame another big game from Chicago’s Justin Fields to beat the Bears 27-24. Fields ran for 85 yards with a touchdown, but the Bears suffered their fourth consecutive loss. Chicago has lost six of seven. The Falcons ran out the clock.
