Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber dig into the latest drama surrounding the World Baseball Classic, after Evan uncovers what he believes is a suspicious bracket setup. As Team USA advances with help from Team Italy, the conversation turns to how the tournament determines its semifinal matchups and why the United States and Japan are seemingly placed on opposite sides. Is it truly about geography, or is it a strategic move designed to guarantee the biggest possible matchup later in the tournament? The show also branches into a debate about how seriously Team USA takes the WBC compared to other countries, with players from places like the Dominican Republic and Japan showing noticeably more passion. Evan and Tiki then pivot to the New York Knicks grinding out a comeback win on the road and the complicated legacy of Carlos Beltrán as the New York Mets prepare to retire his number. The episode wraps with fan calls, including a memorable moment from an 11-year-old listener skipping school to attend the Big East Tournament with his dad.

March is here and there's never a more important time in basketball than now. Playing for Rick Pitino takes a special type of character. Learning under Rick Pitino has benefits well beyond the basketball court. Joining the show today is someone who knows intimately what is going on in Queens right now. On the heels for the Big East Tournament and the NCAA Tournament, St. John's is ready to go on a run. But the work that goes into it is often hidden. We take a peak behind the curtain with someone that has been there, done that, as a player and as a coach. He played under Rick Pitino at Kentucky and led the way as point guard - then he was the head coach at UMass, Oklahoma State and St. Louis. St. John's has done it. A tough fought game in Newark at the Prudential Center, the Red Storm would prevail 72-65 to clinch at least a share of the Big East Title as well as the #1 Seed in the Big East Tournament. Led by Zuby Ejiofor as well as clutch play from Ruben Prey, Dylan Darling, and others, the Johnnies capped off a 25-6 regular season with their 18th win in Big East play. Creighton is teetering on the edge of making 5th place in the Big East Tournament.
UConn men's basketball beat Butler and Georgetown after losing to St. John's, but it's still not good enough, according to some Husky fans. If you've been tracking the discourse after UConn's 79-75 win over Georgetown on Saturday, the environment at games is bad, the team isn't great enough, and a laundry list of other complaints follows. Here at The UConn Fast Break Podcast, we refuse to give in to this negativity. This is already one of the program's most successful seasons and part of a four-year run of excellence that UConn has never seen, if it can avoid an NCAA Tournament upset. The assembled squad is pretty good, only two years removed from consecutive titles, during a time when everything we know about team-building is evolving. In this episode, we spend about 45 minutes breaking down the St. John's, Butler, and Georgetown performances and the highlights and concerns stewing on the court. Then we indulge in some commentary on the online discourse surrounding this year's team, including attendance, fan fervor, and managing expectations. The Huskies have $2 Beer Night vs. Creighton on Wednesday before a big road date with Villanova on Saturday. Then they host St. John's and Seton Hall before ending the season at Marquette, and then we have the Big East Tournament. Great times ahead! This is a public episode.
