Stephanie has been overweight her entire life and she has tried every single diet under the sun and none of them seemed to work for her. She knew in her heart that dieting is not the answer to any of her problems and at the same time, something wasn't right even though things looked great from the outside. Even though she was a pastor in a wonderful ministry and she has an amazing husband that's very supportive of her. Eventually, she had broken down at the office and started thinking about things a lot. This helped her think of a goal that will change her life. She started to establish a habit of drinking water. Using a six-ounce cup that she fills multiple times a day. She also started cooking more at home for her and her husband's meals. So she can control the nutritional value of what they eat more. Eventually, she started doing some physical activity too. Starting by walking to the end of the street. She persevered through it even though she thought she felt she was going to die doing it. Eventually, she got what she wanted and became healthier and actually happy with herself. And now she helps out those in need of assistance with their own health problems. As adults, we sometimes think that we should be really good at everything we try and if something doesn't work right away, we think that we have to give it up but when it comes to making any change, it's important that we don't try to change everything all at once and we don't have an all-or-nothing attitude. When I first started running, I ran 30-40 seconds at a time and my heart rate would go up into the one eighties. And then I would walk while I caught my breath. Then I'd run again. The longest race I ever did was the Falmouth Road Race, which was seven miles and I did 11 minutes per mile. Exercise is a hundred percent dose dependent. And when you do it, you get better at it just by taking little steps. As adults, we sometimes think that we should be really good at everything we try. She put her energy into her emotional and spiritual health and started moving more, starting with just walking to the end of the street and back, and is now running marathons.A common misconception that gets in people's way is that exercise needs to happen in big chunks; that if you don't do 20 or 30 minutes at a time, it doesn't count. The opposite is true. Just doing 5 minutes every day has a cumulative effect that does make a difference.If you find yourself rebelling against yourself when it comes to making healthier choices, take the "shoulds" out of it. After coming to a point in life where she was “sick and tired of being sick and tired,” Stepanie Lueras needed some changes. Through small actions and goal setting, she has lost over 200 pounds through balanced nutrition and movement, without the use of restrictive dieting, commercial weight loss plans, or supplements. She has gained a love of endurance sports, running marathons, and is currently training for Ironman-distance races. She uses this same holistic goal setting model in working with clients in groups and individually to empower people to break down the everyday barriers that exist so they can achieve what they are working towards for their best personal wellness. Stephanie specializes in beginner and adaptive fitness. She helps people of all sizes, ages, and conditions/illnesses, to achieve consistency with their personal movement and nutrition goals. She enjoys incorporating bodyweight resistance training into workouts, so many workouts require no or minimal equipment. She is also a TRX Suspension System Instructor, SilverSneakers Fitness Instructor, and SilverSneakers Nutrition Facilitator.
